Trump's attack on the American mind
Behind his closure of the Education Department, his assault on higher education, on science, and on libraries and museums, lie the oligarchs of the techno-state.

Friends,
Today, Trump is dismantling the Department of Education. He’s ordering wrestling executive-turned-Education Secretary Linda McMahon to shut her department.
His executive order will effectively destroy a $100 billion-a-year executive department created by Congress under President Jimmy Carter 45 years ago.
But there’s a much larger plan here.
Combine this with Trump’s attacks on higher education — his gutting the funding of the National Institutes of Health (which provides a large portion of biomedical research) and the National Science Foundation (engineering and computer research), and his effective closure of USAID (which underwrites research in global diseases).
Put this together with Trump’s (and RFK Jr.’s) attacks on vaccine science,
Combine this with Trump’s attacks on the freedom of speech of university students and professors.
And Trump’s and rightwing governors’ attacks on teaching the truth in our schools about America’s history of slavery and Native American genocide.
Put this together with Trump’s attack on America’s libraries — last week’s executive order mandating cuts in the funding of libraries around the country — which will jeopardize literacy development and reading programs, reliable internet access for those without it at home, and homework help and other resources for students and educators.
Combine this with his attacks on America’s museums (the same executive order cut their funding, too). And his attack on the arts, as illustrated by Trump’s takeover of the Kennedy Center (last month, he announced himself its new chair, replaced 13 board members, and inserted a new interim president).
What’s the larger picture? What’s the overall purpose?
Not to mount an “attack on the liberal state,” as I keep reading. Not “a culmination of Trump’s culture wars.” Or that Trump seeking “small government” over “big government,” or is advancing traditional conservatism over traditional liberalism.
What’s really occurring is an attack on the American mind.
Throughout history, tyrants have understood that their major enemy is an educated citizenry. Slaveholders prohibited slaves from learning to read. Nazi’s burned books.
Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny.
Those who believe in democracy, on the other hand, have been at the forefront of the movement for free, universal public education; and for public libraries, museums, and the arts. They understand that democracy depends on people knowing what’s occurring around them and having the capacity to deliberate critically about it.
Trump is only the frontman in this attack on the American mind.
The attack is really coming from the anti-democracy movement: From JD Vance; and from Vance’s major financial backer, venture capitalist Peter Thiel, who staked $15 million on Vance’s Ohio senatorial election in 2022 and helped convince Trump to make Vance vice president; and from Thiel’s early business partner, Elon Musk.
Thiel is a self-styled libertarian who once wrote: “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”
Hello? Freedom is incompatible with democracy only if you view democracy as a potential constraint on your wealth and power.
Behind Vance and Musk is a libertarian community of rich crypto bros, tech executives, back-to-the-landers, and disaffected far-right intellectuals.
Curtis Yarvin comes as close as anyone as being their intellectual godfather. He has written that political power in the United States is held by a liberal amalgam of universities and the mainstream media whose commitment to equality and justice is eroding America’s social order.
In Yarvin’s view, democratic governments are inefficient and wasteful. They should be replaced with sovereign joint-stock corporations whose major “shareholders” select an executive with total power, who serves at their pleasure. Yarvin refers to the city-state of Singapore as an example of a successful authoritarian regime.
Make no mistake: Trump’s attack on the American mind — on education, science, libraries, and museums — is an attack on the capacity of Americans for self-government.
It is coming from the oligarchs of the techno-state who believe democracy is inefficient, and want to replace it with an authoritarian regime replete with technologies they control.

Clone Trooper Rambles
I keep writing them, mostly because I’m determined to post something creative every day until the end of 2020 and I don’t have any better ideas. Other parts can be found here.
Oil Check
“I just need to do a final perimeter check and I’ll catch up,” Rex told me, having already escorted Hunter, Tech, and I most of the way to my car.
“Take your time,” I told him. “I’ll probably still be doing homework when you get there.”
He nodded and went back to finish checking the perimeter while Tech and Hunter got into my car. It was actually by watching the troopers around my car that I realized they could walk through barriers since they were incorporeal. I didn’t have to walk around my car, opening doors for troopers only I could see, thankfully.
Today in particular, I was also thankful to have worked the early shift. The sun was still up, and I opened my door for just long enough to pop the car’s hood.
“What are you doing?” Hunter asked, having followed me up to the front of my car.
“I have to check my oil,” I explained. “I don’t drive very far on a normal day, but my oil needs to be changed soon, so I try to check it once a week.”
“Oil?” Tech repeated, peering into the engine bay as I lifted the hood and secured it in place.
“Yeah, you have to check it every once in a while,” I told him, reaching for the dipstick.
“What do you do?” Hunter asked, frowning fiercely at the engine.
“Well…” I hesitated for a long moment. I just wanted to go home. The question was: would it be faster to explain it or to say I would explain later and just never do it? Still, I couldn’t stand turning down a request from someone who wanted to learn something. In a move that always got me in trouble around small children, I decided to explain.
“This,” I said, tapping the loop on one side of the engine bay, “is called a dipstick. The tube it’s sitting in shows how much oil is still in the engine.”
I pulled the dipstick, wiped it off with a napkin I had found in my car, and put it back where I had gotten it. “You always wipe it off and redip it before you try to get a reading from it. Otherwise, it can be inaccurate.”
The oil level was fine, and I replaced the dipstick a final time before closing the hood and getting in the car. Hunter and Tech joined me a moment later.
“What is the purpose of the oil?” Tech asked.
“I’m a little shaky on the exact mechanics of an internal combustion engine,” I hedged, “but the oil is generally meant to lubricate parts of the engine and prevent them from overheating. Particularly the pistons, if I remember right.”
“Pistons?” Hunter sounded intrigued.
I sighed and used the rest of the short drive to explain everything I knew about how engines work. There was still time left over when I had finished explaining.
“Why don’t you know more about how something you use every day works?” Hunter asked. The question was harsh, but his tone was more curious than anything.
I shrugged. “I’m not great with mechanical stuff. I know a few basic things to check, and if something goes wrong that I don’t know how to prevent or fix, I take my car to someone who does know how to fix it. Or I go on YouTube.”
“YouTube?” Tech asked. “The one with the cooking holovids?”
Well, that certainly spoke volumes about my internet usage. “We just call them videos here. And YouTube has a lot more than just cooking videos. They have tutorials about almost anything you can think of.”
Let me tell you: that was the wrong thing to say to Tech. I managed to fight him and Hunter off long enough to take a shower, but not much longer.
When Rex finally got to my house, we were halfway through a TEDTalk about the recyclability of batteries with a video about the Abbasid Caliphate queued up to be played next.
Rex pulled off his helmet to give me a confused look. I stared back, communicating ‘help’ as loudly as I could without actually saying it. He walked to sit next to Tech and I on the couch while not blocking Hunter’s view from his spot behind us.
“So,” Rex asked chipperly. “ What are we watching?”
As Tech eagerly summarized what he had absorbed about batteries and Hunter explained that the Abbasid Caliphate was one of the largest empires in Earth’s history, I shot a glare in Rex’s direction. He just grinned back at me and requested that we find a video about marksmanship next.

The first time I heard the word ‘trading-positions’ was during one of my mastermind sessions with enthusiastic entrepreneurs. One of the participants gave an example which used this word and I was like what… But I did not forget to learn that from her and now I do trading!
While doing all the research, tips & trick of trading, I realized I was becoming a part of a much larger, much more humane community of sharing skills with anybody who wanted to learn just in an attempt to make their lives better. In a way to connect people through their interests on a similar ground, the difference being one person is already adept at the particular field and the others just interested to learn.
To be honest, the concept of sharing skills is not something alien. We have all grown up with it. Take every mother who has taught her child to cook or every father who helped his kid with their homework. Thanks to the internet, skill sharing has become even more popular, allowing people to connect online and benefit from a person and their skillset even though they are physically miles apart.
As Moses de Maimon, a Jewish philosopher, better known as Maimonides, says: “Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”

WHAT IS SKILL SHARING?

Skill sharing to put it in absolute layman terms is when people share their skills with others. While it can happen in a formal setting – like a classroom – it can also occur casually at meetups, community centres, and even in people's homes.
For example, if you may be a freelance graphic designer who wants to learn social media marketing, you can agree to exchange design lessons for a tutorial in an online marketing strategy. Or, if you are a project manager looking to increase your web knowledge, you might take an online or in-person coding course.
WHY YOU NEED SKILL SHARING IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Every person possesses a separate skill set which makes him unique. But the power of it is not keeping it confined, it's in sharing it. Call that friend who is weak in your favourite subject and help him out. Skill sharing is how we grow stronger as a team.

Helping others should be a natural extension of every capable individual’s responsibilities. Unfortunately, it does not come as easy as you would think. As privileged and able people, we often get too caught up in operations or our own problems to give people the help they need. However, in the last year, I’ve realized that most of my best clients, partners, and relationships have come from me helping someone for free and for a cost when required.
So how does someone share their multiple skills to the world? We’re all busy with our day-to- day lives, earning a living and eking an existence on Planet Earth.

Teaching to RTFM
I think RTFM has its place. I know I’m not in the minority with this view, but it’s not exactly polite to talk about it. We have all started out on the other side of RTFM at some point, clueless and helpless, not knowing where to begin.
To be quite honest, I wasn’t told to RTFM that much, because I learned to program from books when I was 12, and I wished I could ask somebody for guidance. My father still knew BASIC from the late 70s and early 80s, and my teachers knew enough PASCAL to pass their own exams and then teach children how to use Microsoft Excel. There was nobody to turn to.
When I started learning Java from a book, I was very confused, and I learned many bad habits, idiosyncrasies of the book’s author that I stuck with because I didn’t understand what they meant. Then I bought a bigger, heavier book about Java, and I slowly learned to program. I learned programming in general and Java in particular at the same time. One textbook explained what classes in Java do, but not why you would use them, and the other textbook vacillated between treating OOP as a scary newfangled concept nobody understands but everybody has to use because of Java, and something you have to be familiar with already because the book assumed you already knew C, C++, BASIC and smalltalk.
I read the manual and I didn’t understand. What finally got me to understand OOP was ironically learning and reading code in Python. Unlike in Java and smalltalk, OOP in Python is optional. Although everything in Python is an object, the common Pythonic programming style is procedural, with OOP constructs used sparingly when they make sense. This finally let me understand what OOP is good for. No amount of contrived examples like “class PickUpTruck extends Car { ... }“ helped me understand OOP in Java.
The same thing can happen with classes, module systems, macros, build systems, version control systems, bug trackers, databases, and visual modelling languages like UML and FMC. They are all paradigms or technologies to manage complexity, and if I give a student a toy teaching example of a SQL database, multi-module program, or UML diagram, then the student will be confused rather than enlightened. If the complexity is missing from the example, then the benefit of using complexity-mitigating technology is not obvious.
That even goes for comments! What good are comments in a textbook example, with explanatory text already left and right of the code listing?
If I had a teacher who could explain OOP to me, things would have been so much easier. Eventually, I managed to learn what I needed to learn. Some things are much, much harder to learn if you can’t ask a teacher multiple clarificatory question in quick succession. It would be even better if your teacher asked you a couple of questions to drill down on which part you didn’t understand.
Nowadays, I see many questions on Discord, IRC, and forums from people who are just starting out learning to program. It’s a vast difference between learning Unity3D when you are already a programmer who shipped software in C++ and wrote games in Java, and learning programming, C#, game design, level design, shaders, 3D modelling, and the Unity3D Engine in one go.
If somebody asks a confused question online, the first order of business is to establish whether they are an expert or a confused beginner. That can sound confusing and condescending, but I often fear if I give a straight answer to a confused question, I do more harm than good.
When somebody asks “How do I iterate over the pixels in a pygame surface?“, I can give the straight answer, or three advanced answers with different performance characteristics. You probably want to use numPy and cache the results during level loading. Maybe you can also use numPy if it’s only an occasional thing, and you can stomach the dozens of megabytes of native code dependencies. You probably want to use OpenGL with a GLSL fragment shader if you do the thing every frame. If perchance you want to do palette-swaps only, then you can use the pygame palette handing functions rather than iterating over pixels and doing a dict look-up each time. Iterating over all the pixels in a pygame surface is slow. You can probably get away with it on a 16x16 sprite, but not on a 1920x1080 screenshot.
That’s not even the worst of it! I see confused questions by people who think they found a bug in a library/framework/engine, but actually they just don’t understand their own code, or they don’t understand the programming language. I see confused questions by people who don’t know what problem they are actually encountering, who don’t know what to Google.
These people don’t need to be told to RTFM. Either they already read the manual, but they don’t understand it, or they don’t even know which manual, or what to look for. They can’t be told to RTFM, but they can’t be given straight answers either. The best thing you can do is to ask “You’re new to this, aren’t you?“ and point them to a more basic tutorial. Or, if your time is worthless, you can decide to tutor them one-on-one over the Internet.
All these problems can combine into the worst possible scenario: Somebody asks on StackOverflow/IRC/the mailing list/Slack/Discord, because their teacher is not available, or told them to learn to RTFM and figure it out independently. These people can be high school students too intimidated by their teachers to ask questions, university students who can’t be bothered to attend lectures or wait for office hours, or junior programmers who are trying to impress their boss.
Figuring things out is a useful skill to have, but it’s not something you should rely on in a high school class. If you’re a teacher, don’t punish students for asking questions! And don’t expect students to bother strangers on the Internet to do your job for you. The best thing you can do to get students to RTFM is to answer their questions when they get stuck, so they get a good idea of what to look for, which terms to search for, what to ask on IRC.
If you want to teach your pupils to RTFM, you should at least follow up with them and point them in the right direction in case they get stuck trying to look up the answer, or if they don’t understand the text in the manual. Of course you can assign reading, but for some reason, some of your pupils will take this to mean that you refuse to explain the topic, so the only recourse is to ask strangers online.
And then the student comes back next week and asks even more confused questions, now that the next assignment is due, impossible to complete without having understood last week’s topic.
Around a third of confused newbie questions I see are from students who would rather not ask their teachers, not even those who post whole homework assignments.
Some people want us to stop saying RTFM online, ever. They also want us to stop saying “You’re new to this, aren’t you?“ or “Please take a step back and think about what you are trying to accomplish with this“. They all are too condescending. I’m not just trying to shift the blame away from open source projects and programmer online communities. Confused online questions sometimes have offline causes. These causes cannot be hyperlinked, retroactively screenshotted, and posted to twitter.
For all the talk of rudeness online, many students would rather ask questions here than at school. Maybe the problem lies in the classroom.

THE END OF PERILS, THE SERIES

But then Peter groaned and covered his face, covering his eyes with his palms, and Tony knew that had nothing to do with his hands.
“Whatsamatter, Baby Boy? What can Daddy do for you?” he asked casually as he rubbed Peter’s feet. He asked, but he didn’t turn his head. The truth is, he was a little bit more into this television documentary than he thought he would be. Still, Peter came first.
“Daddy isn’t going to get to do ANYTHING for Baby Boy if I can’t make my study group get past this chapter. I mean it’s not advanced calculus, people. Well, it is, literally, but it isn’t hard.”
They were in their regular Netflix-and-chill position, Peter laying on the couch working on his laptop, his feet in Tony’s lap. Tony had been rubbing his feet absently, but not paying much attention. Maybe it was fatigue, but Tony had actually been watching TV this time. In the early days, Tony had to struggle to make himself scarce (which is to say, leave Peter alone) while sharing the couch with a busy Peter, getting his homework out of the way so they could move on to better things. If he *didn’t* do a good job he would get distracted, rubbing calves, then thighs, then other things, until Peter couldn’t do his homework anymore, and it would have to get done later.

Still there was something about this moment, something important. The same, but different.
He had been with his comedian (even now, he thought of Tony as ‘his comedian’) for coming upon two years. They had began dating after bizarre aliens had arrived from space (including one human, also named Peter but Tony always referred to him as StarFlake) contacting the Avengers and reporting on an invading Over-Alien intent on relieving the universe of half its population. In the early days of dating his comedian he came like a virgin-on-prom-night (Tony’s standard joke) and the scientific side of his brain informed him that’s why Tony had to do it so often, because the actual experience was so short and unsatisfying. So Peter (ever the scientist) had set out to (manfully) last longer in Tony’s mouth. When THAT didn’t work he set out to (manfully) talk and tease Tony for as long as possible. Which did, in fact, help Tony last longer between fixes.
That was the scientific mind of Peter. There was another part of Peter, however, that had another theory.
That theory had to do with a series of confessions his comedian had made after a long period of sleep deprivation (and some very hot sex.) Confessions about his constant fear that Peter was on his way out. That Peter would ‘realized he had accidentally fallen into bed with Tony Stark’ and would thus, logically, ‘bail.’ It made Peter’s heart hurt, knowing how certain Tony had been, at all times, that Peter was leaving at any minute. While Peter had been living every day like it was our last day on earth, Tony had been living it like The Last Days Of Us.
Things had changed significantly, after that night. The one Peter thought of as “The Night Of A Thousand Confessions.” The night they had both admitted they lived in fear of having any serious conversation that would jeopardize their Schrodinger’s relationship. They might never get to a place where they were completing each other’s sentences (the way they completed each other’s thoughts in the lab or completed each other’s moves when training on the compound) or even understanding each other’s intentions, but at least they both agreed they couldn’t read each other’s minds, and periodically reminded each other to stop trying. It was hard work, just as Peter had been promised, but Peter remained optimistic.
As for communicating in the bedroom, Peter felt they were making steady progress, especially now that he had convinced Tony it was OK to talk during sex. They had to have a few sessions, going over what did and did not constitute ‘dirty talk’ and what was actually offensive. Peter maintained that speaking factually about what they were doing and what they wanted didn’t count as dirty talk (“Why is it dirty if we both want to be doing it?”) and Tony, well Tony just needed to know he was safe if he accidentally blurted out his feelings during tender moments. Which, much to Peter’s surprise, he was far more inclined to do than Peter had ever expected.
Outside the bedroom they had developed a shorthand when it was time to time to tackle serious issues. Tony still instinctively made jokes at inappropriate times; decades of muscle memory weren’t going to be unlearned easily. Peter usually navigated Tony’s verbal fencing through patience and gentle redirecting, but when he really needed to get to the point he signaled it by putting his fingers on Tony’s mouth (meaning, “I need you to stop joking for a moment.”) If Tony took Peter’s hand and kissed it, it meant he was willing to try.
Tony, too, had invented a shorthand of his own. When he put his hands on Peter’s eyes, it indicated “It is important you not roll your eyes at what I’m about to say.” Taking his hand and kissing it meant that Peter had received the message.
Peter actually covered his own face, now, as he was grinning ridiculously at the memory. He looked back at his laptop as if really reading the screen, hoping Tony wouldn’t notice. Going over these memories as they sat on the couch, on Netflix-and-Chill night? This was too sweet, a little too too sweet. Peter had often thought of his life as a long boring A03 story. This? This particular story would be in the Tooth-Rotting Fluff category.
But no, this was Domestic Bliss. This was the Domestic Bliss he had worked damn hard for, and Peter deserved it.
At least, it would be Domestic Bliss if this horrible group project chat wasn’t going on. Peter moaned loudly again, grabbing a pillow from the couch and using it to cover his face.
“What’s the matter Pretty Baby?” Tony said again.
“Whats the matter is I am always stuck in study groups with morons…wait…” Peter brought his head out of the pillow.
“Did you just call me ‘Petie Baby’ or ‘Pretty Baby?’”
Tony looked at him sideways.
“That depends. Which one did you like?” he asked with a crooked grin.
“I think I like…both?” Peter said cautiously. “Just…don’t mess up and call me that in front of Fury.”
“That’s OK, if I screw up you can just retaliate and call me ‘Angel.’”
“Do you like it when I call you Angel?” Peter asked softly. That earned him another sideways look and crooked grin.
“I like the reason you call me Angel,” Tony replied.
“Do you like it when I call you Baby?” Peter asked, his voice even softer. His bare feet were in Tony’s lap. He moved one closer to Tony’s torso, stroking him with his toes.
“I like what you’re doing to me when you call me Baby,” Tony whispered back. He wasn’t pretending to watch the television any longer. He took Peter’s foot in hand and pressed it lower.
Peter took one last look at the chat function where his study group argued in circles. “DON’T KNOW GUYS JUST AS STUMPED AS YOU ARE” he typed furiously and closed his laptop, moving it aside. In one swift, smooth movement he was in Tony’s lap, combing his hands through Tony’s hair and whispering against his mouth. “Maybe I should take you into the next room. I’ll call you ‘Angel’ and you can call me ‘Mr. Parker’ and I’ll slip my cock inside you and see if I can last more than a few minutes this time.”
“Oh no, Mr. Parker, if we go back into that room I’m going to bend you over and make you feel good.”
“But you haven’t let me do it to you in ages,” Peter found himself whining, but that just made Tony smile. “Oh Pretty Baby, if you want that, you’re going to have to earn it.”
“Oh, is that a fact? Well maybe I’ll just take you into the hallway, and force you to your knees, and take out my cock, and remind myself why I call you ‘Angel.’ And maybe…” he said, kissing and nibbling along Tony’s ear. “If I start practicing again…I can talk dirty the way you want. And if I do…I remember once you said I was coming so close to it…maybe if you make me crazy enough I’ll lose control enough and I can…”
These used to be words he could (barely!) squeak out when he was hiding his head. Now he pulled back and looked Tony directly in the eyes.

Social Media Experient
Hey loves, my social media experiment was a three day experiment that consisted of a 24 hour detox from a specific usage of technology/ social media. Day 1 experiment was about not using the internet web browser/ search engine tool while doing school work. Day 2 experiment was not using any form of social media platform such as FB, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. And finally Day 3 was no texting/ calling anyone from my phone. Within this blog I will talk about the challenges I’ve had and the solutions I came up with to substitute technology use with human interaction.
Day 1: The day I picked to do this specific detox was on Thursday, Sept. 19th mostly because I usually like to do a lot of my homework prior to the weekend because I work sometimes but also like to relax. This experiment had to be the hardest for me starting off with because I noticed I relied too much on using search engines to make my life easier with doing work. One example of that would be writing a paper or notes down and wanting to look up a definition or correct spelling. I would want to quickly type in the word on the internet but had to refrain from that and pull out my good ol’ thick dictionary/ thesaurus I had on my closet shelf for years. I forgot what it was like having only books to help you with doing work and realized that it wasn’t as bad as I thought, I could easily search for the word/ definition just as fast as I could on the internet. The use of talking with library assistants as well was an extreme help with finding printed articles, references,and information about the things I needed without the use of technology but human dialogue to get my work completed. In all I learned that I was capable of getting work done without the use of technology to help with a “quick and easy” approach of finding material.
Day 2: The day I chose to do this detox was on a Friday Sept. 20th mostly because I had no classes but I did go on a field trip plus hung out with some friends afterwards. For the record my Fridays are usually wasted by the large amount of time I use on social media apps. The field trip was at a mall where we were being lectured about retail lighting spaces so it wasn’t that hard not being on any social media platforms. On the contrary had it been a seated lecture I would have probably been on my social media accounts because I do well without technology when active rather than when not. When dining with classmates at the mall’s food court I realized it was more fun conversing with each other at the table rather than being standoffish on the phone. At times it was awkward because my conversations would get cut short as people were on their phones while talking with me. I also noticed that while eating people tend to look at their phones to avoid talking with a each other with food in their mouths which I could understand. In all I learned that I had a good time at the field trip because I was in the moment spending time with classmates opposed to on virtual reality.
Day 3: This detox was on Saturday Sept. 21st because I had no classes but I did have to work that day. I found this one to be the easiest of them all to achieve because I rarely communicate with people that I do not see in person often. In other words my phone is usually drier than the Sahara desert most weekends. After telling my family and loved ones that I will not be able to communicate with them that day it pretty much was easy not to check my phone to see if I had any calls/ messages. But I did realize that I used so much social media outlets to make the time go by faster by looking at what other people where doing based off of videos, posts, statuses, etc. I also talked a lot during my work shift as if I was getting all of my thoughts out of my system. In all I learned that not talking to people via online/ on the phone was easy to manage while I had a lot of time to myself and my thoughts. It was also relieving to have people to immediately/ physically talk to for sharing ideas, thoughts etc with them instead of waiting for a response online.

I am feeling very cringe and very much struggling in an engineering university that I am in right now, and I MUST get to a better one. For that I need to do well here and do a lot of extra stuff so I am starting the academia 100 day productivity type thing where I write a debrief at the end of each day to say how I only did 20% of what I was planning again, but not 100 days and just indefinitely, 100 days would be just a nice milestone, BUT ALSO WITH A TWIST!
I AM EXTREMELY DUMB AND IRRESPONSIBLE AS OF WRITING THIS
I am studying aerospace engineering snd I am very unfancy. I have seen a lot of posts starting this sort of thing and watched tons of videos. People have plans and stuff figured out, extremely effective schedules and stuff and I have been miserably failing on thay front. People have cute tidy tables, lots of gadgets to help them focus, going to libraries and reading stuff. I.... have none of that. My table is a mess, I have practically given up on using textbooks, my monthly money allowance is negative, the most fancy piece of technology are my laptop and my phone(birthday gift :3), I don't even need them to be fancy right now, our university library is unavailable to study at, my dorm apartment is the size of a dumpster and full of cockroaches, and I share it with 2 other people.
I think you got the idea. I am tired of blogs with soft tidy and often rich (by my standards) study experience. I have no grudge against people who do them however, that would be dumb, I just want more representation of the raw dirty grind where my routine environment is a STALKER-like experience.
So anyways my goals are simple so far: survive the midterms and maybe be french sometimes. For that I start off small: 3 hours of out of class studying per day at least, not a lot but if I start big I will quickly flop and be ashamed of myself. 3 hours studying whatever I see fit for the day is enough for now. I believe that some accountability to strangers on the internet will help me have a bar below which I do not procrastinate and eventually grow into a more responsible hard working person. A bit of a cringe way to do that I feel, but as an engineer, a man of science, I must first "fuck around and find out" to judge the method. I am glad to say I already did study today but relatively inconsequential. Finished my physics homework (fingers crossed I won't have to redo it), did some lineal algebra homework, didn't finish it though, went through some notes on statics, rewrote homework for theoretical mechanics, does doing a bit of Duolingo counts as studying?


How the uni and dorm look like
Some background on me if you for some reason want to know how am I in aerospace engineering while being unresponsible and why I need to get to a better uni. I pretty much failed most of my school but at the last 2 years started getting good, not good enough to be accepted to Purdue or UIUC as I started getting ambitious too late. Failed to go to a community college because of unfortunate political decisions made by the assholes running my country. Now I am enrolled in the (supposedly) best engineering university of Russia and have to make my escape, because I really don't want to study engineering here. Living? We'll see in like 10 years, maybe I'll come back. I haven't seen people in a situation similar to mine but if you are one of them then I will be glad to serve as an inspiration.
I may be dumb and have severe problems with socialisation and organisation. But I know one thing about myself: I never give up and neither should you

What is equity literacy? How can we as science teachers accomplish equity literacy?
Equity Literacy: The skills and dispositions that empower, support, and position individuals to recognize, respond to, and redress conditions that deny some students access to quality educational opportunities received and enjoyed by their peers, and in doing so, thus sustains equitable learning environments for all students and their families (Gorski, 2014)
Hi my name is Breanna, I am a graduate student at the University of Arizona studying to become a Middle School science teacher. The main focus of the M.Ed program offered by the UofA is on ensuring that the teachers that graduate from the program are equity literate, but what does that mean? Well you can look up the definition for equity literacy however there is not an exact definition that can sum up everything that entails equity literacy, thus below I have provided some of the information that I have found on the matter and how a science teacher can ensure they are Equity literate.
Equity literacy in a science class can seem as a bit of an abstract concept purely because the information and content that is taught tends to be very factual and matter of fact. So how do we address the equity literacy implications we face in the science classroom? Well the answer is not as clear and concise as a science teacher would like however the basic principles below can help point you in the right direction!

1. Ability to Recognize even the subtlest biases and inequities
notice subtle bias in learning materials and classroom interactions;
show curiosity about ways school policy and practice might disadvantage some students in unintentional (or intentional) ways; and

2. Ability to Respond to biases and inequities in the immediate term

never confuse celebrating diversity with equity, such as by responding to racial conflict with cultural celebrations; and
teach about sexism, poverty, racism, ableism, transphobia, and heterosexism
4. Ability to Create and Sustain bias-free and equitable classrooms, schools, and institutional cultures
express high expectations for through higher-order pedagogies;
consider how they assign homework and communicate with families, understanding that students have different levels of access to resources like computers and the Internet; and
prioritize consideration of the needs, challenges, and barriers experienced by students who are from marginalized groups in each discussion and each decision about classroom, school, or district policy and practice.
