i love messy human relationships. i love the complexity and nuances that come with life experience. i love when people who weren’t trying to fall in love with each other, do. i love when people fall for someone when it’s just a little inappropriate—like their boss or an exes ex. when even the innocence of being together and liking each other is burdened by something. i love when people fall in love again after breaking up with someone else. or after divorce. or when people love and lose and then come to love again - after time has passed and things have changed. how love and like is unconditional and tenacious and helpless and human and there’s nothing you can do except face the music. i love when human beings are messy. when people are close with people they’re no longer lovers with because the intimacy is still there. you can’t help it, can you? you’re only human after all. and maybe you get a chance to choose love. but most of the time you don’t. you love someone and it lingers in your life and you fall out and love again. maybe you never forget. maybe you do. maybe you find someone just like you—and you use each other to forget your betters. and maybe you’ll come to love each other. maybe they’ll just warm your bed. who knows. all that matters is that you touched each others lives. shallowly, deeply. that’s all you can do. you’re only human after all. i think it’s fine to hold onto the hand that’s willing to hold yours. to not let go when you should. to make a mess of everything every now and again. i think it’s better when none of it makes any sense from the outside looking in. it’s nice when love is easy, but there’s beauty when it’s messy and hard. we are all just trying to find someone who doesn’t want to let us go, either

Laura genuinely makes me so sad, like I cried all silly sometimes ago cause we have a similar past but I went on and she’s like you know..stuck and I wouldn’t want that for anyone :( even if she’s fictional and a killer. I just wish to be kind to her for a moment and tell her a lot of women or really humans feel her pain, that it didn’t turn all of us into monsters. I guess it’s why I’m attached to her because I get it I do, but also…why I hate characters that have SA in their backstory cause it’s really depressing. She’s an amazing character but I can’t help but still wish her punishment and somehow through it all. Peace. That she gets all the punishment she needs and gets some peace right after..a good for good slumber. Even if she doesn’t get that, or feel worthy of it.

This ask actually made me a bit emotional, im gonna be honest. It's one of the most sincere messages I've gotten i think? I am very sorry about what you went through and I will do the same thing you'd do for Laura and tell you to please remember you're not alone and that i believe in you as a person, and that you're still able to move ahead despite everything that's hurt you.

Laura is a character built on cruel irony and tragedy, and many of her aspects are an exaggerated version of views that i also have because of my own trauma (aversion to men, aggression, anger, spite, stubbornness) and the crimes and attitude that would make her an irredeemable character are here to kind of cement the fact she went way too far in her revenge and how being hurt an turn a person into a monster.

But, i rally have to agree with you. Holy FUCK do i pity her. She's not reveling in her evil, she's not actively trying to do more harm (not anymore), and she's just in a state of permanent self-loathing and isolation, where her punishment isn't satisfying to watch or even really clear. You don't really wanna root for her morally, you just kinda wish she'd just... stop. And take a long sleep. Just like you said, a proper, defined punishment, and then let her sleep.

I think this ask sealed the deal of me giving her a canonically somewhat "happy" ending? Maybe a mild one? Where she starts to settle down and indirectly heal alongside Integra and Seras post-canon. A household of damaged women growing alongside each other. Im sure her Creator can decide on a rightful punishment when she passes. Let's just give her a bit of leisure for now.

Headcanon Marcus gets super into miniature painting, and it slowly turns into an interest in sculpting as well. He buys a bunch of tools, watches video tutorials, and spends hours working meticulously on his little creations. Once he gets confident enough in his skills, he decides to make a little present for Sejanus.

Sejanus loves chickens. He always talks about how he wishes he had his own cottage with chickens roaming in the garden, always excitedly points at them whenever he spots them during road trips to the countryside, always sends Marcus funny videos of them, always advocates that “actually, they’re very intelligent animals, even though they look silly”. So the obvious choice for his first hand sculpted and painted present for Sejanus, is a miniature chicken.

Sejanus loves it so much that Marcus ends up sculpting a whole flock for him, complete with a rooster and a few little chicks (which were insanely challenging to make, but the look on Sejanus’s face and the praises, were worth all the hours of suffering).

And now that he’s confident in both his painting and sculpting skills, the next obvious step is creating miniature buildings as well, and what better excuse to start doing so, than the fact that Sejanus’s chickens need a little coop to live in.

So he spends hours researching what all the essentials for creating miniature buildings are, and what a good chicken coop should look like, goes out to buy more tools and makes the prettiest little house for their little chickens.

After weeks of hard work, everything is now proudly displayed on the bookshelf in the living room, and it’s the first thing Sejanus shows new guests when they arrive at their house

Erhmm probably not bc in my main selfship with Jack Delroy, they don’t actually end up together in the end (doomed relationship type vibes 😭) and they never actually move in together when they ARE in a relationship.

That being said…

My self insert, Esther (Jack calls her Essie, and I’ll refer to her that way sometimes too), is, like me irl, an animal lover through and through! So she takes care of the local strays around the apartment complex she lives in as well as the one stray cat that hangs around the Night Owls studio parking lot!

It’s this, Esther taking care of this cat, giving it food and pets and stuff, that informs Jack about her affinity for animals. Esther usually gets to the studio before most everyone else, wanting to get started working before the hustle and bustle of the rest of the crew arrives.

So every morning she has work, she takes the bus to the studio and feeds the stray cat she’s been taking care of here before going into the building. One morning, she walks in and Jack gives her quite the fright as she’s usually the first one in the building. But Jack had fallen asleep in his dressing room and was only woken up by Esther’s arrival. The two express their surprise at each others presence. Esther explains that this is normal for her- she’s always here this early, but she’s never seen Jack here so early? Jack explains that he’d fallen asleep and been here the whole night. He nods to the still open plastic baggie, that had previously contained a bit of cat food, in Esther’s hands asking what she’s got there. She starts to explain before sighing and motioning for him to follow her.

She leads him out to where the cat is finishing up its breakfast, licking its chops. When it notices Esther, it trots quickly over to her and rubs her legs affectionately as cats do and chirps a few times in greeting. Jack remarks on how good she is with the cat and Esther explains that she’s always loved animals, particularly cats, and how she cares for the strays around her apartment complex too.

Jack watches her pet the cat for a while before saying , “We should name it, don’t you think?”

Esther pauses. Despite caring for the animals, including this cat, she’s never really thought to give any of them names. The animals by her apartment don’t need to be called by name, they come running when they hear the bag of food as Esther shakes it. But she smiles and nods slowly, agreeing with Jack.

“Yea, yea we should. You got a name in mind?”

Jack thinks for a moment before saying simply, “Oliver.”

“Oliver?” she replies, with a small smile.

“Yea like the Charles Dickens story, y’know ‘Oliver Twist’?” he explains, “because he’s a stray and he looks pretty young, maybe an orphaned stray.”

Esther looks at the cat and then Jack and then the cat again before nodding decisively and saying, “Okay, Oliver, it is.”

Oliver chirps in approval and moves to tentatively sniff Jack’s shoes, to which Jack moves to crouch and offer his hand for Oliver to sniff.

Oliver sniffs Jack before pausing, as though appraising the human before him, and then rubs Jack’s hand affectionately too.

“I think he likes me!” Jack whispers with a delighted little smile.

Esther smiles back at him, watching the adorable sight of Jack and Oliver getting acquainted.

Years down the line, Esther is in her thirties and the days of working as a graphic designer of sorts for the Night Owls show and Jack Delroy are well behind her. She’s a concept artist at Disney, her dream job finally realized in her early thirties.

They’re looking for new ideas for an animated film and Esther offhandedly remarks on an animal remake of the Dickens novel “Oliver Twist”. Everyone thought it was brilliant and they went ahead with it, creating the movie “Oliver and Company” which would release in 1988.

Nobody knew that there was a very specific reason that the titular feline character of Oliver looked the way he did. Except Esther. Esther based him directly off of the appearance of Oliver the stray from all those years ago, the cat that Jack had named. ‘Funny’ she thinks, ‘how even now his presence persists…’

Nobody really knew that “Oliver and Company” could never have happened if the now disgraced and forgotten host of the late night talk show, “Night Owls with Jack Delroy” hadn’t been introduced to a little stray cat by Esther Watkins back in 1976…
