i love drawing spinosaurids, Spinosauridae is genuinely one of my comfort taxa and ive always used them as subjects when doodling aimlessly among other taxa. BUT ALSO HOLY MOLY IM BEHIND LMAO AHSDUFGDAUIAHIDSFHS UNI MOMENT ill catch up soon..... also #IrriratorBelongsToBR

Three small sketches of theropods from memory, sketched in the Paint Tool Sai in between working on a secret project. :) Tyrannosaurus rex, Irritator and random dromaeosaurid.

The open mouth of the Irritator reflects the data from this (https://palaeo-electronica.org/content/2023/3821-the-osteology-of-irritator) paper stating that the branches of the lower jaw could turn sideways when opening the mouth to swallow large food objects. Unfortunately, the dentary bones of the Irritator are unknown, so it is difficult to judge how the whole mechanism worked.

Paleovember 2023, Irritator challengeri !

Hailing from Brazil during the Early Cretaceous, this spinosaurid's name derives from the fact that it's nearly complete skull had been heavily damaged and altered by the collectors who found it (along with a reference to Professor Challenger in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World. ). Based on the remains we do have, Irritator leans on the smaller side for spinosaurids, estimated to be between 20 to 26 feet long. At the same time, though, the specimen was found to be a juvenile, so it potentially grew to be much larger as an adult.
