For Lauma there is always some way to get out of a sittuation. Be it handeling awkward silence over coffee and cakes with people she dosn't realy know, or having to ease the quiet sobs of a child lerning to fear death while the weight of a building is on her sholders. She's lerned to go through most things with an ease and grace sometimes simply lerned in the moment.

Nora is...she's messy. Right below her surfice she is messy and volatile and so, so deeply tierd. Though, if you can give her enough time then anything can be taken care of. If she can be given the chance to stress over her short future to sickening detail, then she can give quick resolutions to issues after long thought.

Oh, big, big fan of jewlery. One of the few little things they're openly an enjoyer of. Got their ears pearced at the same time as the rest of the littles from their home, but unlike the rest, they continued getting little, cool metals for their ears. All hand made. Well.

Okay, this is something that has been bouncing around the back of my brain for however long i've had Eliza. So. So like. She had the same morals instiled as every bat. Of course she had. But, sadly, her morals do not matter in any of this. Never had. She functions on rules set for her by a being far older than time. She will do as things must be done and if she feels guilt or remorse-does not matter. This isn't an always thing. She is also put in situations where her best answer is the only one she's given, so it's not all always violence and murder from the get go. It's just that she wouldn't have a say in it if it was.

Eliza is hit with the smell of home and a soft pillow and is out like a fucking light. No dreams, little nightmares. And if there are? Far too vivid to not be hounting in a way that only drains her more than she rests.

Nickole sleeps at odd hours. She has a genuen job, works actual hours (sure, she's in charge of them, but motherfucker needs shit to do to not go insane), so she should sleep more than she does. But there is always something to do. She likes doing things, she has passion for her craft, she knows that her cervices are needed for many in ways she may not even fuly know. So she works, late into the night. But her actual sleep? Bristles at any little sound and has nighmares and will call Jason at fucked hours if need be.

Lauma has truly buil herself for fighting. She is tall and she is lean. Controled hands and steady feet, so much of how she moves is so terribly aware. Things like that have been dictated by her quirk, things like that have been formed because of how her skin tugs at scars of past mistakes as she moves. Quiet reminders as to why she is like this now.

Too tall for football, too dissinterested in basketball. 👍

They curl their tail around loved ones when something feels off, or when they've fallen asleep on their sholder. All little things, soft and small toutches full of radiating warmth, or tenderly hand crafted jewlery. Stuff as such.

I so, so genuenly do not know. Think of snowey hills and warm cotton socks, and the sent cats leave on beds. Maybe you'll get there.

She already knew Anthony was going to propose not long after she graduated. He’d said as much, multiple times and every time she’d promised him that she’d say yes.

But she never knew the details, like how he’d asked Sophie to sneak the bangles that had belonged to Kate’s mother out of her room for him so he could use them as inspiration. Or how while Kate was at work, he gathered his brother and Sophie to help him plan a proposal.

“No circus animals,” Sophie says firmly. “They treat the animals horribly.”

“Kate wouldn’t like animals being mistreated.” Adds Ben.

Anthony looks deflated about his original idea not working and that he’ll never go to the circus again. “Well, now I’m sad.”

Public proposals are also out. Kate has made her feelings about them very clear. In the end, he takes her to Paris after graduation to celebrate and arranges a private viewing of the louvre.

It’s just them in the hall and she’s taken by the centuries of art all around her. They stop in front of her favourite piece, the one she told she hoped to see in person one day, completely enthralled.

“I don’t even want to think about how much you paid for this. I know I’m always telling you off but this is amazing.” She says as she stares at the painting.

He doesn’t respond. 

“Anthony?” 

When she turns he’s on his knee before her. He’s already got tears in his eyes and his hands are shaking, still terrified she’ll say no even though she’s promised a yes many times. 

“The moment I saw you I knew I was in love with you and every day I love you even more. I know I’m a lot and ridiculous but I will be the best husband for you. I swear. Please, please, marry me?” 

She can only nod as tears fall down her cheeks. 

“Nod means yes?” 

“Yes! You’re a lot and ridiculous but you’re the best person I know. My life would be so much less without you in it, you know that don’t you?” 

He nods and it’s difficult for him to keep his tears at bay as he slips the ring onto her finger. Anthony quickly sends a picture of her wearing the engagement ring to the family group chat and his phone won’t stop buzzing as Daphne adds Kate to the group chat almost immediately.

bart my friend bart for the ask thing?

Sexuality Headcanon: gay 💪 he’s 1/4 people who have taken up the flash mantle who like men to me. except for maybe jay garrick.

Gender Headcanon: cis+ in that i think he’s fine being a guy and presenting as such but he was also raised in VR and sent to the past and had to adjust to an unfamiliar world with unfamiliar social rules and is also neurodivergent so the way he approaches gender is a little inherently different.

A ship I have with said character: konbart is my favorite for him. other people have said why way better than i could at the moment, but its the most interesting to me aside from being sweet :) them being the only two characters to have memories from prior to the reboot among their friend group for a while and that leading bart to tear through time and space to find kon + their similar experiences when it comes to the ways they grew up + i mean… have you read superboy. etc.

A BROTP I have with said character: tim & bart, bart & cissie, and bart & carol & preston from the impulse solo! tim and bart is self explanatory, i think their characters compliment each other and tim understands bart’s strengths well. his friendship with cissie is classic (introduced cissie into continuity, even) and i like how they have each other’s backs. i miss bart’s civilian friends every single day of my life, and while i’m not a fan of the direction they took carol, they were all so important to him and his story and really served to add heart to what Impulse was all about.

A NOTP I have with said character: hmm… bluepulse. very little precedent for it aside from the yj animated show and even then. bart has little to no significance to jaime reyes at all and vice versa and it’s annoying in tags. i think it’d be neat if they were friends though. also not a fan of requited bart/rose but i think him having a crush on her in the titans era was cute.

A random headcanon: rehabilitating “Bart sparks bits of the speed force when experiencing strong or unexpected emotions” from F*stest M*n Al*ve.

General Opinion over said character: Bart Allen is such a special character to me as someone who saw my experiences as an undiagnosed kid in him to the point that i genuinely cried reading Impulse, but even aside from that. At his best he refuses to slow down for a world that refuses to keep up with him and his comics tell you that isn’t such a bad thing. He marches to the beat of his own drum but cares about his family and friends, he’s angry and silly and fun and serious and everything to me. I wish fans would stop treating him as Tim and Kon’s Wacky Sidekick based on that one joke from YJ that got ran into the ground. I genuinely think he is ADHD coded in the most traditional sense of the word. i think everybody should read Impulse, of course, but his appearances in Flash comics leading up to his solo, too, which paint such a good picture of his inherent defiance and early relationship with the Flash family. him being kid flash was a dumbass idea that went against what made him so great and geoff johns owes me specifically money. ITS NOT SILLY DW!!! mysims is a series of games that were made for the wii and ds, and they r so so so important to me bc they were a huge part of my childhood <33 i even have ocs for each one bc they r everything to me. i’ll explain each one quickly under the cut :]

OKAY SO. there’s six games in total: the original is just called mysims, and then there’s mysims kingdom, agents, skyheroes, racing, and party <3

original mysims is an animal crossing kind of deal!! your character (customisable w both name and appearance) is what’s called an essence user - essentially someone who can use various elements around the world in order to build and create things. you’re called by mayor rosalyn to rebuild a town that was abandoned by its previous essence user and is now mostly deserted. the gameplay consists of moving sims in, and completing tasks for them where they ask you to build them things for their homes!! each sim belongs to a different interest group, like the personality groups in ac: there’s fun, cute, spooky, tasty, studious, and geeky. the type of sims you move in will affect what things they ask for (as in, cute sims will ask for things made with cute essences as opposed to spooky ones)

kingdom is similar to the original in that you’re completing tasks for people!! it’s a little more story based though: your character, a pig herder, is encouraged by your friends to apply to be the kingdom’s wandolier, which is pretty much the same concept as an essence user except this time you get a sick ass wand to go with it 💪 when you win the competition, you and your friends are asked by the king to go to island to island and improve morale around the kingdom, helping people with their problems and building things that they need. there’s also a few collection quests which i really like!! throughout the game you’re asked by various characters to collect figurines, flowers, fish, and pieces of armour! my second fave game of the series :]

AGENTS IS MY LOVE ITS MY COMFORT GAME OF ALL TIME. your character is a detective who longs for a real mystery to solve, and you get the chance when you’re hired as a special agent. one of the cases you get is from a woman named evelyn, whose house has been broken into. as you investigate and figure out what was taken, you realise it relates to a man from the first case you solved - when a man named morcubus attempted to steal a girl’s dog, and you proved the dog wasn’t his. through your cases you travel to various places (snowy mountains, industrial city, dinner party in a gothic mansion) and try to discover what morcubus is planning and how evelyn is connected to him. it’s my fave one of the series if you can’t tell 🫶

skyheroes is a piloting/shooter game where your character is found by a rebel group after crashing on a beach and developing amnesia! you join the group that saved you and learn they’re fighting a war against morcubus (he’s everywhere honestly) since he’s taken control of the skies and is now restricting people’s travel and trading. throughout the story you have to get other pilot groups to join your cause and rally against morcubus, while trying to find out who you were, what memories you lost, and how you came to be shot from the sky and crashed on the beach. i rlly love this one but i am yet to fully get through it bc despite enjoying it immensely i suck absolute dick at it

racing is. well. a racing game. it’s similar to simpsons hit and run in a way, with the missions being to drive around collecting things or racing against npcs. the plot is that your character is an aspiring racer, and is learning to properly race in a town called speedville (yeah) which is mostly abandoned since the previous star racer mysteriously left. you enter the championships and begin living your dream as a racer, but are soon met with morcubus (i’m telling you. everywhere) who’s trying to overtake speedville in order to use it for his own company and is attempting to stop you from winning any races so you can’t give speedville its glory back

party is kind of a mario party vibe!! it again begins with having to rebuild a rundown town, but this time you do it through entering festivals and winning at the minigames :] <- going to b real i do not have too much to say abt this one. there’s a character called mc emi who is my best friend ever tho

And then the next time they were in my reach, I poured them into my mouth and ate like 1/2 the bottle. My mom was so scared she called poison control. I was fine lol. Turns out tums are mostly calcium so they said not to give me anymore milk for awhile.

That was back when I was small the first time but I’m still exactly like that lol. Imagine their panic at having to hide all the stuff from babey.

and OMG i can just imagine the sheer amount of things steve and bucky do that are unsafe for babies... they quickly learn that if they want any sort of alcoholic beverage or anything like that it has to be when your asleep or on a playdate, otherwise you're begging for a sip like a puppy begging for table scraps. once, when you hadn't been living with them for very long yet, bucky made the mistake of leaving a glass unattended on the counter, thinking you wouldn't be interested in such a boring drink with such an off-putting smell, but if baba does it then baby wants to try it too, and they only notice you've grabbed the cup and taken a sip when you're coughing and sputtering it all up on the kitchen floor 🥃💕

steve takes you to the gym with him one day for some daddy/baby bonding time, and even though he's not as keen on screentime as bucky is, he lets you bring a tablet to keep you occupied while he does his workout routine. that lasts about 2 seconds, though, because the second steve picks up a weight and starts his reps, you've snuck up alongside him and are attempting to pick a 50lb dumbbell off of the rack. it doesn't budge of course, thank goodness, but to appease your curiosity, steve makes sure to order some toy workout equipment. thats not enough for you of though! you wanna be big and strong like daddy!! so its back to the store for a set of 1lb weights in your favorite colors so you can train alongside him 💪💕

Plus we got lucky and we were able to sit and watch the dolphin show！

We got there in perfect time so we were able to buy some food to eat while we watched it！

The dolphin show was just amazing…

It was my first time watching a dolphin show but it made me so emotional I teared up…

Miles & y/n aren’t rivals for real for real, they just sort of annoy each other and have been doing so for years.

They’re extremely competitive with each other, and it’s almost like it’s never ending. Their classmates and shared friends are tired of it, but used to it nonetheless. It’s been going on for years after all…

They compete with test scores, popularity, who’s the better cook, who can go the longest while/without type of challenges. It’s all exhausting.

But what’s really stuck the longest is their stealing wars.

It’s often they’ll catch one another sneaking in and out of their rooms, normally with hands ready to take, or hands full of things they’ve stolen.

And it’s never anything the other really need per se, just small items they’ll remember exists later on and will tear up their room to find.

And when they realize it’s not there, they already know where it could’ve gone.

The difference between Y/n and Miles, is that Miles borrows. He gives everything back that he may have taken, but he doesn’t make it easy. More times than not, Y/n’s things will end up within the belongings of his roommate who seems to constantly be gone on vacation with family and friends.

Y/n will often wait one, two, or even three weeks at a time to get his things back because it’s not a rarity for his roommate to text and say things along the line of “Miles put the thing you were looking for in my suitcase. I’ll be back on the 19th!”

But while Miles actually borrows, you take things and never give it back. “I’m using them at least!” is your justification, but it really doesn’t make it any better. There has been numerous occasions—like this one— where Miles has come into your room and asked for (or tried to figure out) the security code to your clear safe with things that you’ve obviously stolen from Miles’ room.

“Cmon Y/n, just tell me the code!” Miles begs for the umpteenth time.

You chuckle slightly and lean back in your chair. “Nah.”

“But I need this stuff back!” He complains.

“Dude…” You say, throwing your head back. “It’s an empty shoe box, a glasses wipe, an action figure, some manga that you’ve already read, a beanie, and a spray bottle. It’s never that serious.”

“It is though!”

“Yeah?” You raise an eyebrow. “And why is that?”

“Well because I wanted to put my shoes back in the box, my fake glasses are getting dirty, I need that action figure for…my little cousin, I have only read that manga 6 times which isn’t enough, my ears are cold so I need that beanie, and the spray bottle is for my hair which you obviously haven’t looked at.”

You glance up at his hair and do a double take. It’s almost completely matted yet tangled at the same time.

“Alright alright, I’ll give you some things back.” You start, getting up and walking towards the safe.“But first, what’s that!?”

He circles back to the door you pointed at and spends a few seconds trying to figure out what he should be looking at. Within those few seconds, you were granted enough time to unlock the safe, grab two items out, and lock it back.

Miles whips around to face you again, giving you a confused look. “What am I supposed to be looking at?”

You feign innocence, frowning slightly at Miles. “Oh, sorry I thought I seen like a brunette spider-man or something.”

He laughs awkwardly and rubs the back of his neck before speaking sheepishly. “There’s gotta be one out there somewhere.”

“Yeah, definitely,” You study his features then walk a little closer to him. “What are you hiding, Miles?”

His eyes dart around the room but he doesn’t say anything, letting his panicked expression speak for him.

“Just kidding, I don’t care.” You laugh, throwing a sock at his face and placing his spray bottle at his head. “For you, kind sir.”

He blinks slowly as you sit back in your spinning chair, waiting silently for him to leave.

“…who’s sock is this?”

“Yours.”

“I’ve never seen this in my life.”

“I’ve had it the past few years, why would you remember it?”

“Why did you have my sock?”

“I needed a sock to wear.”

“You don’t have any?”

“Yeah, but none that look like that.”

“…why take only one sock?”

“To match it with my sock.”

“What sock?”

“You know, the gray one with the white stripes at the top.”

“But this one is red and black.”

“And your point is?”

Miles blinks at you again, and then speaks quietly. “Just give me the rest of my things.”

You chuckle softly. “Almost sounds like you’re breaking up with me, Morales.”

Miles face palms and mumbles to himself, something along the lines of we’re not even dating and you’ve clearly lost your mind.

“Having fun there?” You giggle, obviously very entertained by the fact that he’s talking to himself.

“You don’t need all of this stuff!” He tells you.

You scrunch your face up. “You don’t need any of mine either, yet here we are.”

“I just wanna read my manga.” He whines, dragging out the last letter a in the word manga.

“What’s so great about it?” You ask curiously.

“What’s so great about it? I’ll tell you what’s so great about it!”

You sit in silence and wait for him to continue, but he stands still with that determined look on his face.

“So are you gonna tell me or are we both gonna sit here looking stupid?”

“Oh,” He chuckles. “The best thing about the manga is Renga.”

“Sk8 the infinity?”

“Yes.”

“Mm…”

“Just give me my stuff back.”

“Fine, Miles.” You sigh. “But only under one condition.”

“Which is?”

“Nothing else?”

“Are you sure?”

You blink. “Well what else did you want?”

“Well, nothing. But I don’t expect this to be all you want. There’s always something with you.”

“Of course there is.” He rolls his eyes. “What is it?

“You agree that we should drop whatever this rivalry that we’ve been having all these years, and be friends for once.”

“Wait.” He pauses. “You wanna be friends with me?”

You automatically get shy and cover your face with your hand, opting it’s best not to look him at the moment.

“Is thee stoic Y/N Y/L/N shy over wanting to be my friend?”

“Get out, Miles, I’ll bring you your stuff later.”

Miles chuckles and then walks out the door, leaving you grimacing at the spot he was just standing in.

Miles’ eyes widen slightly, but then he catches himself. “What’s the catch, Y/L/N?”

“Why do you think there’s a catch?”

“There’s always something with you.”

“False.”

“I can’t even get my stuff back without going on a date with you.”

“Is going on a date with me really so bad?”

“Depends,” he says honestly. “Where are we going?”

You shrug. “Up to you.”

“Do you want go vandalize the city?” Miles asks with a smile, bouncing on his feet.

“I mean, I’m down for whatever.”

“Great, now give me my stuff back.”

You raise an eyebrow.

“Please,” He corrects himself. “Give me my stuff back, please.”

“That’s not why I looked at you like that.”

“No? Then why did you look at me like that?”

“Because I was wondering, did you only agree so you could get your stuff back?”

“Nope,” He shifts nervously in his place. “I’ve actually liked you for years and was to scared to ask you out so this is a win for me.”

He rolls his eyes at your raised eyebrow.

“Why do you think I started taking your things to begin with?” He asks you.

“I don’t know,” you shrug again. “I figured maybe you were bored.”

“Well that’s not the case.”

“Cool. See you tomorrow at noon then?”

“We have school.”

“…okay?”

“I’m gonna get myself into trouble with this one,” Miles mumbles quietly but loud enough for you to hear, walking out of your dorm. “I can feel it.”

Was it pure coincidence, or some greater force acting that caused the two of you to meet? Either way, James was grateful to have met you.

You made him realize a loneliness he didn't even know he had. The little gaps you filled, he wanted more and more and it felt like he could never have enough. It didn't take long for him to conclude what he felt for you had been romantic for some time.

He didn't care if the people around him gave him weird looks. They wouldn't understand if they refused to look past your appearance--which, honestly, was something he never even thought about much. Sure, the first time he looked at you, he thought you seemed like an average person, but who was he to judge? He'd seen all sorts of people in his days, and there were plenty of surprises.

Hell, even that kind of wimpy kid that's been running around was full of surprises. Daniel, was it?

Anyways, he didn't care about how average you were. You still shined in your own special way.

Like when you sang karaoke with him, he didn't pay attention to your singing skills. You looked like you were having fun and that was enough for him. The way you laughed afterwards out of embarrassment was beyond adorable, stumbling over yourself as you apologized for not being the best at singing.

Or when the two of you decided to make lunch together and you burned a few things, he didn't pay attention to that, either. Instead, his focus was on how earnest you had been in the conversation taking place during the cooking. He learned a lot about who you were as a person that afternoon.

And the food you made for him was as average as you said it would be, but again, it didn't bother him. The effort was there, and he could appreciate that.

The point was, you were kind and genuine, and he was madly in love. How were you not taken yet?

Ah, whatever, it gave James a chance. Hell would freeze over before he missed it.

"Sorry--"

"You're fine," James reassured, eyes squishing into pretty moons as he smiled at you.

You just chuckled nervously, looking away from his handsome face while he finished up applying the bandaid on your finger.

"There we go." He hummed as he let your hand go and you brought it closer to your face to examine it for no reason in particular.

"Thanks."

"No problem." As you rested your hands in your lap, James turned back to the cloth on the table. He picked it back up alongside his needle and began right where he left off before attending to your minor injury.

You shifted a bit in your seat next to him, frowning a bit. Your eyes glanced back and forth at the progress of your embroidery compared to his.

Earlier he had suggested you both try embroidery to experience something new and you agreed. Almost anything done with him was fun or at least peaceful, and this time it wasn't any different. The thing was your feelings of being average were beginning to claw away at you again.

Feeling inferior to James wasn't it--you wouldn't even dare seriously compare yourself to this man of talents--you just... felt bad about yourself. Though you were mostly fine accepting and knowing you were average nowadays, you still had the longing hope that maybe, just maybe you'd find something you excelled at. But you never did.

Average as always.

"Sorry." The word came out before you could stop yourself.

"Hm?" James paused to look at you.

"I... uh." You scrambled to avoid putting the pity party you were having in words and randomly grabbed the needle you accidentally poked yourself with earlier. "Nothing. It's nothing." You picked up your piece of cloth next and flashed him an awkward smile.

"...Alright. No pressure." His soft tone had you almost confess what was running through your mind but you decided not to. He went back to continue his embroidery, and you continued yours.

After a while, you got a little lost and ended up asking him for help. He kindly responded, and despite that easing you a bit, your insecurities still clawed away. This time, you couldn't stop yourself as an apology spilled from your lips.

"Apologizing again?" He had a teasing tone, which made you smile slightly.

You let out a quiet laugh. "I know. It's just..." You gulped. "I feel bad asking for help so much. And for accidentally stabbing myself with the needle earlier. And having you patch it up. And being really, really average. At everything. I wish I--"

"Hey." James sternly cut you off, setting down the cloth and needle in his hands. "You don't have to be sorry for any of that. And I wanted to patch up your hand. Don't feel bad for that, either."

"Thanks," you murmured. "I mean, I really do appreciate your words, James, but... nevermind, I don't know where I'm going with this." You nibbled on your lip in silence, beginning to grow embarrassed. It caused you to break eye contact with James.

He placed a hand on your shoulder. "You know, I don't care about how average you are."

You jerked your head to look back at him, eyes widening at his bluntness.

There was a gentle smile on his face. "It wouldn't even matter to me if you were terrible at everything you did, either. I just like that you're you, having fun, and spending time with me."

"Really...?"

"Really. There's so much more to you than what you're good at, you know. Or how you look, if you're worried about how you may appear 'average' on the beauty scale. So, don't worry, there'll always be plenty of things to like about you." He gestured to himself with his free hand. "There's certainly plenty of things that I like you for. Your personality and cute looks are just the tip of the iceberg."

Butterflies fluttered in your stomach at his words.

"Don't let your average-ness define you, okay?"

"Yeah, you're right." You nodded stiffly. Asking him to clarify himself was on the tip of your tongue but you held it back in case you were misinterpreting his words. It wasn't the first time he had sounded mildly flirty with you, but--wait.

"Good. So no more of that, you hear? I want you to be nice to yourself. If you can't, I'll make you start doing that cheesy '3 things I like about myself' exercise everyday."

His joke lightened the mood but did little to distract you from your sudden realization. Flustered, you still managed to joke back with, "Bet," and he quipped, "Looking forward to tomorrow, then."

Conversation picked up from there.

For the rest of the night, you pondered about just how much of his feelings were platonic towards you.

Confessing to someone after they vent wouldn't be appropriate, after all.

For now, James would indulge himself in teasing you with hints.

Okay Lena, that secret santa ask was so funny that I have to ask for more... how would the ROs fare in a white elephant party?

Hi anon, you're in luck because I just went to a white elephant party last night, so I can totally put myself in this headspace! However, you're also not in great luck because I'm a little bit hungover from said party and trying to understand the hypothetical logistics of a white elephant with all of its swapping and trading is confusing me... but I'm going to give it my best shot! 💪😤

For those that don't know, a white elephant party is a party where everyone brings a secret, anonymous gift to the gathering, and people randomly pick gifts out of a pile. Sometimes it's an actual desirable gift, or sometimes it's something completely absurd, or something the giver just wanted to get rid of: sort of depends on the flavor of your party. After the first person unwraps the first gift, the next person can either pick a new random gift from the pile (not knowing what it will be) or steal a gift that someone has already opened. Gifts can be stolen twice before being taken out of play.

So, moving on to what each person would bring to the white elephant...

What They Would Bring

Blade: he would bring a good-quality compass in a plain paper box. In his mind, everyone needs a compass at some point, especially when out in the field or in an area where you can't see the sun or stars. What if someone like Riel or Shery gets the compass, Blade? "They can use it to guide them if they get lost." "In the city where they live?" "Or instead of just asking for directions?" Blade, irritably: "Yes."

Trouble: he would bring a nice deck of playing cards, sloppily wrapped in brown parchment paper and twine. One always needs an easy form of entertainment while on the road, or even just for game nights in the Shepherds' lounge!

Tallys: a nice bottle of Elvish red wine in classy, neat red wrapping paper. Sure, the Mages say in the group say they don't drink, but she's watched Ayla pound back too many shots to know better...

Shery: a very sharp writing set, complete with enameled case, fresh bottles of ink, and very high-end quills and a fountain pen! It even comes with some sealing wax and parchment! She reasons everyone has to write their reports, so why not do it with some very pretty writing utensils? Comes wrapped in a gorgeous silvery paper!

Riel: a very handsome pocket watch in a sleek little black shopping bag that seems like it definitely went over the budget of this party... (but he technically abided by the rules because it was a gift from some business contact that he no longer wanted, so he didn't really pay money for it...)

Chase: a homemade treasure map that he claims leads to an incredible prize, untold riches and secret rewards... if the recipient is willing to undergo the formidable trials of The Hunt... Comes inside a huge box, within which is a slightly smaller box, within which is an even smaller box, and etc. until you get down to the scroll...

Red: a pair of enchanted, self-heating wool socks in a neat paper gift bag. Like, okay, the spell woven into them is cheap because probably a student from years past made them, and they might singe your toes, but they're also super comfy socks!! (They're also hideous, though)

Ayla: a truly tiny iron pot (like palm-sized) that one can hang over a fire and melt cheese in. Because sometimes you want to melt cheese but how do you do it over a campfire without it melting and dripping everywhere?! Chandry pushed it on her as part of a promotional sale and she sort of chucked it under her bed and forgot about it until she remembered the party... Hastily wrapped in a free blanket she has lying around!

Briony: a single sheet of paper that supposedly--supposedly--will turn the ink on it red if a lie has been written on it, and gold if the writer is telling the truth. She sort of got tricked into paying a handsome sum for this sheet of paper, and it is extremely unlikely that it will work the way the seller claimed it would, but she can sense that there's some magic worked into it, and it supposedly will only work once; ultimately, she got too nervous to waste it and ended up overthinking the whole thing, so now she's more curious to see if anyone else will take it off her hands and try it instead! She secretly wants to see if anyone will use it to reveal if someone has a secret crush, but she's also nervous that it's total bunk and will like derail someone's relationship LOL

Lavinet: a basket of sumptuous bath items (like bath oils and bubble bath) and luxury goods like scented candles and soaps! Certain parties in this group need to relax for once, and this is something most people would never buy for themselves but she thinks could sorely benefit them, so in her mind, it's a very desirable gift! Comes wrapped in very sophisticated, gorgeous holiday wrapping!

Halek: a novelty cup that will supposedly change color if it comes in contact with most poisons. Its origins and make are dubious, but that was what he was told when it was given to him! He got as a free souvenir from somewhere and never brought it up to anyone because he knew he would catch shit for the whole "poisoning the group" thing, so this is his ideal chance to get rid of it anonymously...

Okay, let's see if I can get the exchange right...

The Exchange

I used a random number generator to try and simulate what people would select! Here's how it shook out...

Riel goes first and opens Shery's gift: the very nice writing set. He absolutely loves it!

Briony goes next and opens Ayla's gift: the cheese pot and blanket! She likes it because she wants the blanket, which is very soft and comfy--the cheese pot is a nice novelty bonus!

Lavinet goes next and opens Chase's gift: the homemade treasure map! She knows instantly who gave it and declares that she's not going to risk life and limb on one of Chase's "mad misadventures." Chase smugly tells her that she is unworthy of Haven's greatest treasures.

Ayla goes next and opens Halek's gift: the poison-warning cup! She dryly remarks that she needs it with Halek around, not knowing that he himself is the one who gave it lol. Blade quietly asks to examine the quality of the cup and she says protectively, "No!"

Chase, unable to hold back his thieving impulses, steals the poison-warning cup from Ayla, which is very shiny and made in the semblance of a tawdry gold goblet. Ayla, after much indignation and threats, proceeds to open a new gift and receives Red's self-warming socks. She proceeds to howl in outrage and fury at the unfairness of this transaction. Red meekly suggests that cold feet can be just as deadly as poison.

Tallys opens Briony's gift: the truth-telling sheet of paper! She is quietly amused, if a bit skeptical, but also properly intrigued. Ears prick up around the room.

Red goes next and steals Riel's writing set. Riel, having expected this, steals the truth-telling sheet of paper from Tallys. Tallys, a bit miffed, opens up a new gift and receives Trouble's deck of playing cards.

Shery opens Tallys's gift: the bottle of Elvish red. She doesn't really drink wine, but she bravely says that perhaps she'll start!

Halek, to be kind, steals Shery's gift because he'll drink and enjoy the wine, and he knows she won't. Shery opens Lavinet's bath set and is delighted! (Blade breathes a sigh of relief because he was going to pick that one and would have hated it. Briony is a bit green with envy.)

Blade steals the poison cup from Chase. Chase heavily contemplates stealing the truth-telling paper from Riel, who gives him his classic snake glare, but Chase is ultimately unable to resist the lure of the unknown and opens Riel's pocket watch. As with most things shiny and expensive, he loves it!

Trouble steals the treasure map from Lavinet, predictably being one of the few people in the room willing to go looking for it. Lavinet opens the final gift: Blade's compass in the plain box! She isn't super enthusiastic about it, but it is better than the treasure map, and she probably will find some use for it!

The Results

Blade wound up with the poison-warning cup. He is very intrigued by it and it was probably the best gift for him in the entire exchange!

Trouble wound up with Chase's treasure map. He is going to spend the next 36 hours looking for that treasure, even to the point of crawling through an underground crypt... Chase, not having really had any treasure in mind to begin with, uses those 36 hours to procure an extremely rare and one-of-a-kind gun to place at the end of the treasure trail, just in time for Trouble to actually reach it! He takes Trouble out to dinner as a bonus!

Tallys wound up with Trouble's deck of cards. It's not super relevant to her, but it's also not entirely worthless: overall, she had a good time at the party, and she can find some use for the cards!

Shery wound up with Lavinet's bath set. She's over the moon with it!

Riel wound up with the truth-telling paper. Who knows what he's going to use it for... (Later, further examination from Neon informs him that it doesn't quite work that way, but it is good for checking the accuracy of math calculations...)

Chase wound up with Riel's pocket watch. He loves it!

Red wound up with Shery's writing set. He loves it!

Ayla wound up with Red's self-warming socks! She loathes them! Briony offers to trade with her, but Ayla declines because Briony has the cheese pot she just got rid of 😂

Briony wound up with Ayla's cheese pot and blanket! She is happy with her outcome, though there were a few things she would have liked more! The cozy blanket does make her very happy, though...

Halek wound up with Tallys's red wine! He is pretty happy with this; he can make a nice charcuterie board and have some wine after a long day!

Lavinet wound up with Blade's compass! She's indifferent towards it, but there's not much in the gift exchange that she would have desperately wanted anyway, so she's fine either way!

J: Before we begin, would you like to introduce yourself?

C: hi!!! i'm carter c and i'm a DIY musician from vegas & i make a LOT of music.

J: Omg hi, big fan! :D

C: hiii

J: In July you released your 2nd (now labeled only) LP, everything i do alone i want to do with you, and in the corresponding months after you've been releasing new material for each month. How has the reception been for all the projects?

C: so like reception has actually been really good! everytime i get criticism and stuff like that i take it wholeheartedly and try to better my future projects and i hope everyone can obviously hear that. a lot of people really liked "my lips are moving" which was suuuper super reaffirming that i could make really whatever i wanted. i'm happy ppl r really liking it :-)

J: That's really great to hear! Has releasing projects at this pace brought any sort of worry or has it been an ease in task with nerve only appearing in approach to differing sound?

C: not gonna lie, at the end i got so unbelievably overwhelmed but i made due . pretending to write songs for other projects helped me a lot too. for example, back in april i released 2 songs as "imaginary best friend", and using aliases like that just kind of lets me do whatever. now that i don't have any deadlines i've gotten back to writing a lot more freely but for a while making carter c was very very stressful. i was still having fun tho!

J: Congrats on pushing through and finding ways to keep things more relaxed for yourself! It's good to know that writing has been at free pace. :)

In relation to sound, your latest record is a large shift with the direction taken in sound. Instrumentally you took a diverge from an synths, midi drums, and a general electronic feel for a more natural, rock-folk sound. Who would say inspired you to make this change for recording?

C: the inspiration for that sound is a lot of the DIY artist's i have been listening to as of late. car seat headrest, geronimostilton, julia brown, teen suicide, starry cat, paranoid americans, weatherday (etc.) but the reasoning for that sound existing is that i kind of wanted to limit myself and making something that is authentically "carter c." not carter c with vocals and maybe guitar by carter c, synths & drums programmed by lev sterling, and keyboards played by kameron salek. i just wanted to make something that truly reflected my skillset and who i am.

J: Would you say you achieved what you set forth?

C: for sure, i feel like my music now at the end of the day is an extremely accurate representation of my skillset and of what i want to create

J: Good job :)

J: Whilst it's in the air, let's talk inspiration. The narrative of the album primarily focuses on your relationship with your partner, Amanda Shaw. Was it your intention to make the album a sort of concept-record or did it come about naturally in the writing process?

C: the concept-record aspect of it was completely on accident. originally my idea for everything i do alone i wanted to make an album full of disconnected singles (in the same vain as dc/snuff film or my back is killing me baby) but all i could really write was these long winded love songs. i would stay up so late writing these them about her and she'd listen and help out. it kind of just morphed into a concept album about her and what it would be like really meeting in person naturally as we both did our parts to contribute to the project

J: In what ways did she help out?

C: so in the cd verison of the record there is a drawing  for every song and she co-wrote cover me in paint, i think yr a rabbit, and helped me with the structure of star funeral

J: Cate Wurtz type beat 💪

C: LOL

J: From my understanding she also drew the album cover, yes?

C: yup! it wasn't even meant for the album

J: With the mention of Cate Wurtz, you recently tweeted about your song, badplace, which you stated was inspired by a Cate Wurtz comic and a bit after she liked the tweet! Do you think she listened to the track?

C: honestly i'm not sure! i'd be honored if she did. badplace (THE COMIC) is my absolute favorite comic of all time and it's so funny and silly and bubbly and weird. i hope she remembers that comic and tbh if she checked out the song i hope she sees that her fans luv her n stuff

J: Well I hope she did, it's easily my favourite off the tracklist! I was wondering if you could tell the story of the spoken word piece in the breakdown, I'm sure fans would love to hear!

C: oh for sure, it's straight up ripped from the comic. cate is credited as a writer on the song bc of it. her words really stuck out to me and effected the way i view my own personal life.

J: Let's move on from the album for a moment.

In September, you released a companion EP dubbed, i would drive a million miles just to hear your voice. Does the EP add any extension to the narrative previously given?

C: not particularly, to me it gives certain songs another lens to look through. everything i do alone as an indie rock song, i think started as a suped up version of fashion break, animals is using only instruments i owned when i wrote the song, and february 6th is just a leftover song i had. the EP is an extension of the concept and motif of the album

J: Ah, that's a good way to look at it, thanks! Speaking of february 6th, it derives from your side project, imaginary best friend. Another song which had also made a comeback was waiting 4 u!. What brought you to give these two a fresh a coat of paint and should we be expecting any new releases from ibf?

C: oh yes ibf!! waiting 4 u was rerecorded for jested inc's charity compilation and february 6th was just a song i loved playing all the time but my vocal delivery on the original was very much not my finest performance. more ibf will hopefully come out eventually, and another song (called imaginary best friend) came out back in september. who knows tho!

J: I'll be sure to check it out after this! Re-recording seems to have been prevalent for yourself this year. First we heard an updated take of Star Cluster off your debut LP, Starry-Eyed Boy. It featured an incredible performance from Ewren. Then we saw an acoustic recording of fan favourite, ride, and just last month we saw, AGAIN, another version of ride which bared resemblance to everything i do alone in regards to sound. Why has ride been given so many iterations from a swing-feel [demo-recording] to a diy jam and do you think I could get on ride 5?

C: haha! ride 5 will never happen. ride is a song that i've had high expectations of because i like the writing so much but the original recording irks me so much. it just feels so superficial and glitzy for no reason compared to the november ride. the ride demo is super cute though, glad you've heard that one.

J: Of course, I'm a big fan! Your latest release, wave goodbye to the ghost, was released about a week ago. In the song's description you state the track was demo'd in late December of 2020. Was the song considered for SEB or maybe even dead while also kind of hungry?

C: it was written for dead while also kind of hungry but was left out for ride (because they both originally contained car seat headrest lyrics) but in ethos it was really the first ibf song. entirely recorded, produced, and performed by me.

J: Neato! Another note you made in the description was the revision you made on the lyrics. One of the topics is college and recently you were just accepted into one, which were you accepted into and how has school been on you as a musician?

C: oh ya! i was recently accepted into portland state university for music production, which i'm super excited about. in school i'm a pretty big music nerd, spending the majority of my day in the band room and spend the rest of my day either mixing or browsing RYM. being a DIY musician and also going to school hasn't done much just because my music isn't rlly marketable to everyone at school

J: I feel that, but being marketable is for sell outs or whatever lol

C: agreed

J: Let's take things back to everything i do alone. The track animals is the oldest song to appear in the selection, dating back to 2018. Why did this song seem most fitting for a spot on the record?

C: fun fact, the song is older than that! it was originally released under a different name randomly in 2017. i decided animals was best for the LP because a lot of my friends liked the song and so did amanda. i ended up playing it a lot on early carter c livestreams (pre SEB) along with the skeleton song & blond boy. they were just the best of my old tunez.

J: Do you really have a skeleton under your bed named george?

C: haha! sorta? the song was written about my notebook (named george) that i kept under my bed because i was so nervous about someone reading it

J: You named your notebooks lol? Why were you so nervous about someone reading it?

C: just that one. i wrote so much in it & so much just personal stuff yknow. tweens are weird

J:Definitely, haunting memories for sure!

C: indeed

J:You recently came out with a compilation track of singles you've released throughout the year. Not just under your name, but side-projects you're attached to as well. One of the projects ,teenage hands, is in collaboration with the artist, Ewren. Should fans be expecting any new released or shall it remain dormant?

C: a lot more teenage hands is coming soon. ricky eat acid + bedroom pop vibes. get excited!!!!

C: one million dollars and a full 30 person orchestra.
