Room known as the Empress’ Bedroom at the Grand Trianon in Versailles. Parade bed (1809) created after the design of Charles Percier (1764-1838) by the cabinetmaker Jacob Desmalter (1770-1841) for the imperial bedroom of Napoleon I at the Tuileries Palace from where it was transported to its current location in 1838. It was also the deathbed of Louis XVIII. This bed has been subject to several modifications. Its large escutcheon was altered several times and the layer was enlarged under Louis-Philippe. Original Empire balustrade (1810) by Pierre-Benoît Marcion (1769-1840). Marie-Louise selected the furniture in this room that remains to this day.

✨Bedroom of the Queen and the Empress 👑 Before Maria di Medial up to Empress Eugenie, all the rulers of France, whether queens or empresses, used this state room. The room thus offers a historical overview of the development of interior design. Austria, the mother of Louis XIV. It was created in the year 1644 by the Parisian art carver Guillaume Noyers. Bookstand
1839
Attributed to Charles-Auguste Questel; workshop of Georges-Alphonse Jacob Desmalter; carved decoration by Chabraux
French, Paris
Ebony, ebony veneer, ebonized maple, oak, maple, rosewood, snakewood, ivory, mother-of-pearl; brass hardware and mounts; lined with silk velvet not original to the piece.
The shaped aprons on the front and back of this bookstand bear the crowned initials FPO for Ferdinand Philippe, duc d'Orléans (1810—1842), oldest son of King Louis-Philippe. A noted patron of the arts with eclectic taste, the duke commissioned this striking black and white showpiece from the ébéniste Georges-Alphonse Jacob Desmalter, grandson of the celebrated eighteenth-century menuisier (joiner) Georges Jacob, in 1839. Most likely intended to display Les Offices de la Vierge, a lavish book of hours created for Ferdinand Philippe the previous year, the bookstand consists of a base, a bookcase with two openwork doors supported on baluster-shaped legs, and a sloping upper part with a book rest. A detailed mémoire by Desmalter indicates that the velvet-lined interior originally held a pillow for the missal. The top has a ratcheted mechanism that allows the central panel, embellished with marquetry of ivory, mother-of-pearl, and snakewood, to be raised. The historicizing design by Charles-Auguste Questel reflected contemporary interest in the Renaissance style. The sculptor Chabraux carved the elaborate decoration in ivory and ebonized maple.

💄French style to welcome an Austrian archduchess - 📌The bedchamber of the Empress in the Château of Compiègne, France. The decor of this space was substantially changed when the archduchess Marie Louise became Empress of France. For this important marriage the architect Berthault executed this extravagant design in 1808/09, focused on abundance and fertility. One of the highlights around this two metaphors are the two angels sustaining the canopy curtains and the two horns of abundance on the bed. It was together carved by Jacob Desmalter ateliers. #fontainebleau #chateaudefontainebleau #france #patrimoine #histoire #louisXIV #royal #frencharchitecture #frenchart #frenchinterior #tapisserie #furniture #secondempire #napoleonIII #ambiance #light #renaissance #photography #colors #louisphilippe #monarchiefejuillet  #reflet #europeanroyalpalaces #design @chateaufontainebleau #louisphilippeafontainebleau #exhibition | by hugues.mr
