Visual trend lab foam Studio embarked on an prolific exploration of trend visuals with BASF’s Coating Division. Their Automotive Color Design team invited foam to conceptualize and design their latest release of their global design tool kit, which is an authoritative trend book on automotive paints for the next years. foam’s task was to interpret the diverse findings of the group, and consolidate the complex social, technological and aesthetic trends and translate them into formal narratives. The result is an unseen formal language, with autonomous shapes and unfamiliar materials celebrated in a playful ménage of bold hyperrealism and poetic abstraction. The geometries have gone rogue. Uninhibited by conventional rules of physics and gravity, they have come to play. The unforeseen rebellion obliged an interaction free of simulation. Rotating around an artificial axis, the displaced euphoria was swept up by a spline. A hyper null acted as precursor to abstraction that a script could no longer control. In turn they branded an escape from preconception and corrected their trajectory.

the game plan was devised. a stellar line up was chosen. the opponent, however, never reached the plate. unforeseen events obliged an interaction between the player and himself.

the internalized hype acted as precursor to abstraction: a signature, a code and an antidote.

the players could not play. their reflections inverted a euphoric ego. disappointment transcends. no one won, but found were the angles lost in triangles.

Zeitguised by Henrik Mauler & Jamie Raap | on Tumblr (USA/Germany) - Birds

Founded in 2001 by American sculptor Jamie Raap and German architect Henrik Mauler, Zeitguised are a Berlin-based contemporary art studio exploring the frontier zone between digital abstraction and realism. Their ambiguously poetic work draws from the infinite recombination capacity of the internet’s crazed mashup culture, paired with the manipulation potential of digital imaging tools. Using seductive 3d animation, Zeitguised creates post-narrative modes of structural transformations, evoking mental states of manic order and complex instability. Precarious color relations and dysfunctional shape agglomerations inform sequential transfigurations. By playing with conventions of digitally manufactured images, the fake is emancipated from authenticity.

The cloud theme predominates the work of Zeitguised: a transitionary, metastable cluster that is nothing yet becomes anything, if only for a fleeting moment. A swarming system that shows symptoms of life and the agility of a connected organism, the cloud is a bastardization of the abstract and the real as a twitching borderline between fiction and concretization. In a post-anthropocentric motion, the cloud works postulate that the predictable merging of nano-, bio- and information technologies will render perpetually evolving shapes into real artifacts.
