i truly would not be mad if nancy breaks up with jonathan and tells steve to move on. and for vickie to tell robin she’s not interested but is willing to be friends. so nancy and robin decide they need to hang out after a long day of heartbreak and throughout their convos of explaining everything that’s been going on, they realize they have feelings for each other. i truly would not be mad at that. in fact, that’s exactly what i want to happen 😌

I don’t understand anyone who says Nancy cheated on Steve/Jonathan. She didn’t.. her and Steve were already broke up, before she and Jonathan kissed. Also, she wasn’t cheating on Jonathan in anyway, during season four. All because she looked at Steve and smiled? That’s not cheating, sorry. 😭

okay ik this has been talked before but i just got a sudden anxiety feeling regarding this and wanted to share. i hope when byler kiss it doesnt come off as awkard. idc about the other scenes, noah and finn can screw up their other scenes on the show but when they kiss and it comes off as weird and awkward in a bad way? im sorry but i cannot deal with that, that moment has to be monumental and i cannot deal with melvins mocking the scene just like how the mon*logue scene gets mocked. that is also partly why i want will's hair to be changed, sorry not sorry.
this is so funny and i'm sure it won't come off as awkward but i'm gonna have to agree on the bowl cut commentary. i find the way will stans (especially on twitter) cling to his bowl cut and defend it with their lives fascinating because you can lie to yourself all you want it literally does not look good. most of the time. in seasons 3 and 4 i mean. there's a reason people make fun of it 24/7 like why do you want him to keep flopping...

i recently mentioned how the stranger things directors are freaks about symmetry and centering here, and i'm gonna bring up another example of when something isn't centered
Tumblr media
i posted this picture recently specifically about how there is light imagery above mikes head, a literal yellow lightbulb going off in his head as he doesn't close his eyes or kiss her back. but as i was looking at this i noticed something else that has probably been talked about before, ive just never seen it.
the screen gets progressively darker from left to right. and mike is on the dark side. why would mike be in the dark if the love of his life is saying she loves him? and why is he framed perfectly inside will's closet?
what really got me is that there's a window right there with light flowing into the room, and it's in frame, almost teasing you. if this is a huge happy moment for mike and el, why aren't they in the light, centered in front of the window?? it's RIGHT THERE!! and it would've looked way better than this shot!! this shot is messy, there's so much going on. it's dark on half the screen, the walls and closet and window make it look like there's five different sections on the screen, and the light above mike's head is distracting too.
and anti bylers reading this might be thinking, "okay well so what?"
i'll tell you exactly what.
this is the scene that plays RIGHT before the mlvn scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
centered. symmetric. couple in the light, in front of the window. no messy design distracting you from jonathan and nancy. because this is just about them. no hidden feelings or hidden messages the directors are sending you.
RIGHT. BEFORE. THE MLVN SCENE. RIGHT BEFORE IT. and right after the byler scene
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and to make it even worse, they remind you of both windows in wills room (yes, WILL'S ROOM)
but in the big moment, no window. in fact, they block it at some points. and to be clear, jancy are not blocking the window, they are standing in front of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
blocking VS standing in front of
meanwhile in bylerland...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they are endgame.

Mike thinks Will is straight btw (and that he had a crush on a girl) so he wasn't rejecting Will he was convincing himself that he doesn't have any feelings for Will (he loves Will), it parallels the Jancy scene and the Jopper scene, and then "in the closet (at rink o mania)" started playing while the camera was on Mike and he started talking again, also Mike repeats himself when he's nervous
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they said the rain fight wasn't about Will's sexuality, so it was about Mike being gay and having internalized homophobia (reminder that Mike doesn't know Will is gay), he was also projecting on Will because he was acting like he didn't care about dnd anymore and acting like he was all grown up and acting like a different person to be with El and then in s4 he joined a dnd club and told Lucas he didn't want to be popular
Tumblr media
Jopper has the "it's just a dinner between 2 friends" line and they kissed in s4, Jancy has the "we're just friends" line and they kissed in s2, Lumax has the "she's not my girlfriend" line and they kissed in s2x, Byler has the "we're friends, we're friends" line and they'll kiss in s5, notice how they never used this trope on Dustin and Lucas (they don't have feelings for each other)

"The Last Lie," as the final variation of "The First Lie," why it would be the perfect title
+ the importance of the the songs
(before anything: yes. i know. "it's literally just a song title." but obviously the song is important to the duffers if they wanted multiple versions to put in each season. this song is insight to what's not always being verbalized. the series of this song contains themes of queerness, romantic love, self-discovery, honesty and acceptance. all of it is meaningful and that includes the title pattern that's going on.)
ok so this is gonna be very much a rambling post.
but i was thinking of all the variations of "the first lie," and how the final one is most definitely gonna be for byler, or related to it in some way.
so far we've got... The First Lie (jancy) // The First I love You (mlvn s3 kiss, robin's coming out) // Being Different (Will's Monologue, 3:20-4:29)// Jopper scene S4
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(yes. jopper has their own variation! you can tell by the lack of bass, extra added synths and different build up that it's a different version... i'm just not sure why it wasn't included in the soundtrack.)
i got bored and began thinking what the title would be if it were to be for byler.
i've noticed many people suggest to capitalize the 'L' in 'love' to prove that mike's love for will is something real, where as it wasn't for el.
i guess they could do that.
but... that requires them to say that phrase. and i really don't think mike and will are gonna say that to begin with, nor would i want that.
in the stranger things universe, "i love you" has only been a phrase used platonically or by failed relationships. the show really loves to depict love by actions or with other words. they enforce the theme "actions speak louder than words" with their relationships.
in real life, it's important to hear those words 'i love you.' however this is a fictional story that's crafted with precise choices to send an underlying message to the audience. so going by that this means that in this fictional world, el shouldn't need to hear mike say it. no other couple in the show had this issue other than stancy, and well.. you know how that ended up. bullshit.
mike and el had this issue because they don't love each other that way. the desire to hear it comes from none other than their codependency. they rely on each other to have some form of identity or purpose, slowly destructing who they really are in the process.
so while i understand why some may want mike to say 'i love you,' the point is he shouldn't have to say it. his actions should be enough to prove it, if we're following along the themes this narrative is trying to display.
his actions fall flat, and will continue to. although his actions ARE signs he CARES about her, their relationship has no chemistry and especially compatibility. there is no actual romantic love. just unhealthy attachment.
will feels better about himself, he feels loved as a whole, not just as mike's potential partner. mike makes him feel better for being different... but when has mike ever said anything specifically like that? he's never sat down and said, "hey, it's okay to be different." it's mike's actions that make him feel that way. mike's love for will is already being said without actually saying it, just like the other endgame ships. it's following the active theme.
and yeah it can get confusing.. because we're in the pov of will, who thinks it's unrequited... we lost mike's pov... mike's with el.. but the show is deliberately trying to make the audience (at least the heteronormative-blinded part) MISS it, so it can be a whole twist and all that and continue to enforce the theme they're going for.
and let's say the word 'love' is used, i think it'd be used in the context of a letter (ex: love, mike). i just really don't think they will make them say "i love you" if no other endgame couple has before. it disrupts the theme.
now, if not "The First I Love you," then what would be a good title?
personally, i like the idea of "The Last Lie."
why?
because mike needs to stop fucking lying to himself and denying his homosexual desire for his childhood best friend and stop pretending like that dragon poster isn't gay as fuck
no but, THINK ABOUT IT. (this is about to get severely cheesy and probably cringe inducing and i'm sorry)
imagine it. thee byler kiss scene, or whatever it ends up being (but it has to be related to them in some way). this is the moment in which mike finally confronts his truth and accepts it. he isn't bullshitting who he is anymore - being gay, his interests, his true personality.
the 'normal' boy who he tried so hard being... the 'normal' boy he risked his friendships and the love of his life just to be... the 'normal' boy that doesn't enjoy nerdy games... the 'normal' boy who he masked behind just to live a lie.
whether it's by words or a kiss, he's finally letting that lie of a boy go the moment he shares his love for will. and in those seconds of time, it's almost like a promise to himself that 'normal' boy would be the last lie he'll ever try to live again
i fucking love characters who break their own moral code. that's mike - the character that enforced telling the truth and being honest to those you care about, and still ended up being a liar all along.
and it's not even that mike's relearning "friends don't lie." no. he already gets that. we already get that. you're free to disagree here, but what i personally get from mike's overall character is that there will always be an inability to be truthful to others if you can't be truthful to yourself first. mike must live his live authentically and stay true to who he is and what defines him if he wants happiness. otherwise, the lie he digs himself into will only get bigger and bigger, and inevitably will destroy what's important to him (his relationships in this case) and himself.
all this... it already fits the themes the other song variations have been displayed in:
acceptance of a love and finally letting it in -> jancy/jopper
coming out and speaking your truth -> robin
queerness -> robin, mike, will
self-discovery -> mike
just imagine all of those themes just smashed into one title and scene. that track would carry so much meaningful weight.
Ok
maybe this post was just my secret love letter to those songs. but am i really crazy for caring about them? soundtracks in film/tv deserve more love! that little melody is clearly so important to the story, the way the titles it transitions through and what it tells us. i just think it's genuinely brilliant how they managed to do that with one instrumental. that's storytelling!!
ok i'm done now thank you kyle dixon & michael stein. ur my fave bylers

It’s PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that Stranger Things was meant to be three seasons long: season 1, 2, and a previous version of what we will now know as season 5.
I’m not saying that seasons 3 and 4 are bad, they’re great. But they very much feel like a detour from the original plan.
We know the show was meant to last more than 1 season because Noah auditioned for Will by reading the “crazy together” scene from season 2. We know it was meant to last more than two seasons because in the original script of the snowball dance they had Will looking longingly at Mike, which implies there was still stuff to be explored (we may be able to find clues in other, monster-related plots). However, they removed Will’s look towards Mike and added an unscripted Mileven kiss. This was a deliberate choice to stretch these storylines further instead of being resolved in the third, originally final season. They also came up with that horrid hidden spin-off pilot that was episode 7.
Seasons 3 and 4 feel like a forced detour from the original plan: the whole dealing with a lot of summer tween/early teenager angst, “killing” Hopper then immediately showing us that he’s not dead, retrofitting Vecna into the story, which meant giving El the soap opera-esque “stroke” as a justification for why she could barely talk when there were other kids there; “killing” Brenner then bringing him back *again* just to kill him *again*, making El lose her powers for a minute yet get them back *again*. Making the Byers move to California just to bring them back *again*, having El learning about fashion just to regress *again*, breaking up Mileven twice just to get them back together *again*. And made Byler fall out then reconnect *again*, then Will look at Mike longingly while he gave his speech to El, a heightened version of what was supposed to happen at the Snowball dance. They even rehashed Steve’s feelings for Nancy *again*.
Trim the fat from Seasons 3 and 4, and all the main characters are in a place where they would have been a couple of episodes or maybe halfway into a hypothetical 3rd and final season: Jopper are together; Jancy are together but have the college thing to talk about, Mileven are together but there’s doubt that Mike loves her, Byler are full of romantic tension but getting interrupted, Max has just been attacked and is the one in a coma this time while Lucas suffers, Dustin just experienced the loss of a big brother figure (clearly a placeholder for Steve), Hawkins is destroyed by the Upside Down, etc.
My theory is that the Duffers were working on Season 2 when Netflix addressed Stranger Things’ sudden massive popularity, sat them down, asked them to make it five season instead at least, and they said “fine”, so they tweaked the middle in order to get back to (more of less) their original idea for the ending.
