The Liverpool Giants are a set of giant marionettes built by French theatre company Royal de Luxe and displayed in a series of shows in Liverpool - England, and around the world.

The shows were:

Sea Odyssey: Giants Spectacular in 2012, featuring La Petite Géante (Little Girl), Uncle (The Diver) and (Xolo) Dog - companion of La Petite Géante.

Memories of August 1914 in 2014, featuring the Grandmother, Little Girl and Xolo

Liverpool's Dream in 2018, featuring the Little Boy, Adult (Castaway) and Xolo (with surprise appearance by La Petite Géante).

The Marionettes were retired after the final show in Liverpool, and are now residing at Royal de Luxe's workshop in Nantes - France.

La Compagnia viaggiante di marionette giganti È il più grande spettacolo al mondo, letteralmente. Nessun teatro è abbastanza grande per la troupe che trasforma intere città e paesi nel suo palcoscenico. Dal Sud della Francia al Marocco, dal Camerun alla Cina, dalla Nuova Zelanda al Messico, Royal de Luxe è diventata una compagnia teatrale di proporzioni epiche, quasi mitiche da quando tutto iniziò nel 1979 ... La compagnia iniziò ad Aix-en-Provence dove un trio di recitazione guidato da Jean-Luc Courcoult iniziò ad attirare il pubblico all'esterno piuttosto che trascinarlo in uno spazio chiuso, eseguendo i loro spettacoli per le strade e negli spazi aperti... Nel 1989, ricevettero una chiamata dal sindaco della città di Nantes, che offriva loro finanziamenti per aprire una sede in un magazzino di riso in disuso sulle rive del fiume Loira. È qui che la vera magia dell'artista Jean-Luc Courcoult potè evolversi in qualcosa di davvero colossale. Dalla sua prima sfilata nei primi anni '90, il Royal de Luxe ha portato le città al blocco totale: migliaia di persone si riuniscono per guardare in soggezione le gigantesche marionette meccaniche che passano per le strade recitando storie e antiche leggende per diversi giorni di pura magia teatrale. Ogni gigante, costruito con legno di pioppo leggero e flessibile, è controllato su un sistema di pulegge idrauliche e leve da 20 a 40 membri della troupe Royal de Luxe, chiamata Lilliputians. I membri della compagnia provengono da tutti i ceti sociali, sedotti dalla magia di Courcoult, sono inventori, poeti, stuntmen, tecnici teatrali e commercianti di rottami, la maggior parte dei quali si muove tra un ruolo tecnico e uno di spettacolo. E questi giganti non si limitano a mettere un piede davanti all'altro (sebbene siano di per sé impressionanti per le loro dimensioni), gli occhi delle marionette del Royal de Luxe lampeggiano quando sono stanchi, i loro polmoni si gonfiano e si sgonfiano in un movimento sincronizzato. Offrendo al pubblico e persino ai futuri membri della troupe, l'opportunità di sognare un mondo dove tutto è possibile, Royal de Luxe sembra quasi mitico nell'età di oggi. Nghệ sĩ người Pháp Jean-Luc Courcoult sáng tạo ra ngôi nhà để trưng bày trong khuôn khổ Triển lãm Nghệ thuật đương đại Estuaire 2007 bên bờ sông Loire. Ngôi nhà bỏ hoang này là bản sao của một quán trọ Lavau-Sur-Loire theo tỉ lệ 1:1. Ngày nay, quán trọ chuyển thành quán bánh crepe phục vụ du khách và người địa phương.

Ban đầu, La maison dans la Loire được đặt ở hữu ngạn, nhưng dòng chảy quá mạnh và thủy chiều dâng cao khiến nó bị lật úp. Đến năm 2012, nghệ sĩ Courcoult chuyển nó sang gần bờ trái. Để ngăn lũ lụt hoặc thủy triều cuốn trôi ngôi nhà thêm lần nữa, đội thi công buộc nó vào đá dưới lòng sông.

Đối với nghệ sĩ, nó là hiện thân của "một ngôi nhà có nền móng bị bùn đất bám đầy, ngả nghiêng, cửa chớp khép kín như xác tàu bị bỏ hoang, dù lò sưởi vẫn còn bốc khói". Ông cho rằng cảnh ngôi nhà tĩnh lặng trên dòng sông chuyển động không ngừng như một bức tranh ba chiều bất động giữa thời gian.

Ngày nay, ngôi nhà bỏ hoang này là một trong những điểm nổi bật được giới thiệu trên các tour du ngoạn sông Loire. Ban ngày, nhìn ngôi nhà chỉ tạo ra cảm giác kỳ lạ với các du khách. Nhưng khi vào ban đêm, nó trở nên rùng rợn hơn một phần do vị trí khác thường.

Ngoài ngôi nhà bỏ hoang, đôi bờ sông Loire còn những điểm tham quan hấp dẫn du khách khác như nhà thờ Couëron, tháp cổ cao 70 m xây dựng từ cuối thế kỷ 19, đảo Liberty với một cảng nhỏ...
