felix anxiously stared at the phone. he turned to jack. “do i call them?” he asked. “do i tell them?” he stared at jack curiously. the two sat in silence for a minute, before jack broke it. “just get it over with already!” jack exhaled. felix sat frozen in anxiety. he slowly looked up at jack. “im sorry, i cant do it” he admitted. “do you need me to do it for you, honey?” jack asked sincerely. “yes, please.” felix responded in a quiet voice. jack picked up the phone and dialed your number. it rang once, twice… you picked up.

“hello?” you spoke into the phone. “hey sugar,” the voice on the other line spoke, with a voice so rich you could almost taste it. “jack?” you recognized the timbre of his voice and his habit of using pet names. “that’s my name, sweetness, don’t wear it out” he confirmed. “listen, im calling on behalf of my good friend felix here”

your heart fluttered in your chest at the mention of his name. could it be?

“go on,” you prompted.

jack covered the phone with his hand and turned to felix, who was sweating nervously. “are you sure you don’t want to tell them, sweet thing?” he teased. felix blushed and nodded his head. “well, alright then.” jack cooed. he removed his hand and spoke into the phone. “you see, darling, felix here has a little crush on you”

felix was shaking uncontrollably. (not that the the three cups of coffee he had before this helped any). he looked nervously at jack, trying to gauge his reaction. were you upset at him? did you like him back? damn, jack has a good poker face.

“alright honey, i’ll let him know” jack said. “alright. yep. talk to you later. bye.” he set the phone down. he looked at felix, stone-faced. felix stared at jack’s expressionless face, his eyes welling up with tears. “…so?” he asked pathetically. he tried to blink his tears away, but to no avail. jack wiped felix’s tears with the pad of his thumb and cradled his face in his hands. “oh my poor boy. it will be alright.” he said soothingly. felix nodded sadly. maybe he was destined to be lonely forever.

jack looked at him and laughed. he smiled his signature wide grin. “i got you good! get yourself cleaned up. they’re coming over.”
