CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN PROMPT ─ day 11 [ candy cane ] -- @milfdeacon​

WARNINGS ─ gn!reader, poly relationship + general fluff

“don’t you think you brought enough candy canes, amor?” jessica spoke from her spot on the couch, watching as you unpacked the boxes of candy canes you had just purchased at the store. slightly amused at the amount and concerned as you hadn’t said anything about what you were doing with them.

“i think i bought enough. if not, i’ll just buy more.” you smiled as you started to unwrap each box and pull the candy canes out. she watched as you set them aside and grouping them together in some way.

just as she was about to question what you are doing, hondo walked in, pressing a kiss to jessica’s lips with a quick greeting before making his way over to you. you made a noise of surprise, arms moving to cover your project as he leaned in to kiss you too, “close your eyes, kiss me, then leave. you’re gonna ruin it.”

hondo huffed out a chuckle, doing as told and narrowly missing your lips in the process before moving to join jessica on the couch, “what are they doing?” he asked in a hushed whisper, eyebrows raising as she shrugged her shoulders, “i have no clue.”

they figured they would let you be, as it was obviously something you were wanting to surprise them with and would wait patiently for you to present what you were making.

you had made plans long ago when jess and hondo had told you they’d be working christmas. which hadn’t come as much of a surprise seeing as they had last year off.

so, you slowly started putting things together to make this holiday just a little more special for them, and by extension, the rest of the team. you had coordinated things with annie and bonnie, as well as a few of the other families to get things together. and with permission from commander hicks, who would let you know when the teams would be out and had promised to distract jessica on your behalf, you all got to work decorating hq.

the teams walked back in a few hours later to find their loved ones and hq decorated top to bottom with christmas lights and tinsel. you had quickly greeted hondo, kissing him quickly just as jessica rounded the corner with hicks behind her.

“is this what you had been planning?” she asked, throughly surprised as she hugged you tightly, kissing the side of your head gently. you shrugged you shoulders, grabbing each of their hands to squeeze them gently, “i only planned with the others, my surprise is elsewhere. so, why don’t you two get changed and then join us in the break room for food?” you smiled, dropping their hands to go with bonnie towards the break room.

hondo smiled, shaking his head at your antics before heading in the direction of the locker rooms. inside was also decorated, and candy canes hooked into each locker. instantly he recognized them as the ones you had bought days prior and pulled the candy cane from his locker. attached was a note, something short but sweet and very much you.

he quickly got dressed in his casual clothes, walking out with everyone and heading to the break room for some food. he ran into jessica on the way there, her own candy cane in her hand, “did you get one?” hondo nodded, holding his up as they both shared a smile, “they really are something special.”

jessica nodded as the two looked around for you, finding you with the brightest smile they had seen in a while. you caught sight of them, immediately making your way over to them, “merry christmas!” you state as your arms loop around them both, squeezing them tightly.

“these are so sweet!” jessica states as she holds up her candy cane, causing your face to warm as hondo kisses your temple, “so, this is what you didn’t want us to see?” you nodded shyly, knowing they were pretty observant when it came to you and the things you were doing, “i figured it would be something nice to do, and it paired nicely with what we had already planned.”

“we love them. thank you.” hondo nods, matching your smile just as you turn to the food behind you, “you guys ready to eat?” they both nod, joining you as you walk them over to the various foods that were laying out. just happy to be spending the holiday with your two favorite people.

Hondo: Hondo would cook you your all time favorite meal, grab you a glass of whatever you’re drinking and force you to relax after a tough day. If you’re feeling up to it, after words he’d put on some jazz and dance with you around the living room.

Deacon: Deacon would make you tea or coffee, set you down on the couch and lend you his ear so he can help you work through the problem or offer you moral support. He’s cuddle up with you if you asked him to, and the next day at work you’d be surprised  woth your favorite flowers.

Luca: Luca would be the type to give you the biggest hug imaginable, and then take you out to your favorite food truck, getting you some fresh air and some damn good food to make you feel a little better about everything.

Tan: Tan would immediately want to make you feel better, taking you on an impromptu date, whether that was to roller-skate, surf, or work out your stress at the gym. He likes to keep moving, and knows that, whether you like to admit it or not, it’s a great way to relieve stress.

Chris: Chris is the one who would take you out drinking and dancing to forget whatever atrocities happened that day. She would love for you to just let loose and enjoy yourself, especially after a long day.

Street: Jim would give you your space, waiting for you to come to him about what’s wrong, then taking you on a late night ride, which always cheered you up because of the combination of the wind and being able to see the stars.

Rocker: Rocker would be a total sweetheart. He’d run you a bath or a hot shower, then cuddle with you while watching your favorite moving and ordering takeout. He’d just want you to completely relax, make you feel at least a little better about what transpired.

Bonnie: Bonnie would let you vent to her, getting it all out before wrapping you in the biggest hug imaginable. Then, she would take you for a treat, whether that was buying something small you’ve been eyeing but hadn’t gotten yet or taking you out for your favorite food.

Cortez: Jessica would hold you, letting you cry it out before cuddling you on the couch, putting on something for background noise as you either talk to her about it, she distracts you, or makes out with you.

so I totally understand pushing for ships - I do too - but in my experience defintely let them know you want the ship but then lean back. I’ve seen pushing for a ship and writers pulling 180s the wrong way - like ChicagoPD/Med or Night Shift. so find a middle is my PSA today :)

Who is Hondo’s Perfect Match

Recently I’ve become a fan of SWAT and after binge watching the series and seeing all of Hondo’s different love Interests each season, I’ve come to the conclusion who is the best and worst for Hondo.

Originally when the series began, Hondo was in a secret romantic relationship with his boss, Captain Jessica Cortez. It originally wasn’t a problem for them, but all that changed when Hondo was promoted as the new leader of SWAT and once that happened, they knew their relationship could jeopardise their careers should anyone find out. However, they were willing to take that risk and continued their secret relationship and it remained successful. They didn’t let it interfere with their jobs and managed to keep it a secret from everyone with no one the wiser. However, it all changed once Michael Plank, the commissioner of the police saw them sharing an intimate moment together. Earlier in the first season, he and Jessica were working together as he was helping her to make some unpopular changes within the LAPD.

He viewed that Jess and Hondo’s was being hypocritical on her part, seeing how could she go forward with the changes when she was in a romantic relationship with Hondo. In the end, in order to protect their careers, they mutually broke up, despite admitting they loved each other. Personally I liked their relationship and thought they were cute together. It’s understandable they start a relationship, both working for the LAPD, seeing each other on a regular basis and workplace romance does happen as I’ve seen on plenty of other shows. It was simply bad timing for them and as the series progressed, we saw them together less and less which developed into a more professional relationship and with Jess having left the series, any chance of them getting back together is out the window.

In the beginning of the second season, Hondo began seeing Nia Wells, the Deputy Distract Attorney, but it wasn’t a real relationship and they were simply sleeping together on a regular basis since Nia recently went through a divorce. In the end, Hondo and Nia stopped seeing each other halfway through the season after a run in a with racist police officer and later when Nia could not prosecute the man who almost attacked Hondo’s sister, Briana. Personally, I never saw them as a good fit and simply didn’t like Nia in general, seeing she was a bad influence on Hondo in a way.

Finally in the third season, Hondo’s newest love interest is Nichelle. Unlike Jessica or Nia, Nichelle is not involved with the law, she isn’t a cop or a lawyer, but instead she hits closer to home for Hondo. She comes from a wealthy family and lived in a better neighbourhood, but she is strong, independent and driven woman who simply wants to make Hondo’s neighbourhood a better place for everyone. Nichelle is the new owner of a book store/community centre to help kids stay out of trouble. I love the chemistry between Hondo and Nichelle and not just because their actors were each other’s love interests on Criminal Minds. I like them together because I see that this relationship is good for Hondo, finally someone who isn’t involved in law enforcement and simply wants to make his home a better place for kids to grow up and give them a chance at a better life. It’s good to see Hondo dating someone who isn’t involved with the law and I like Nichelle because she keeps Hondo on his toes and really makes him think about his future in a way.

In conclusion I find that Hondo’s perfect match is definitely.... Nichelle. Nichelle is unlike any other woman Hondo has ever been with before and I think she maybe the one for him. Like the old saying goes third time’s the charm. I can see that Hondo and Nichelle are building a serious relationship together with no games, no rules, no restrictions, unlike his previous romances with Jessica or Nia. Finally, a woman Hondo can truly be with and not having to worry about hiding it from anyone or someone seeking a good time. Hondo is with someone who wants a future and I can tell this is his best and most serious relationship yet to the point he actually admitted to his friend and teammate, Chris. It may not seem like it, but that’s actually a big step since Hondo has always kept his relationships private in the past and this is the first time ever, he has told one of his friends/teammates about any of his relationships.

Overall, I think Hondo has finally found his match with Nichelle and I hope they have the same happy ending as they did as Derek and Savannah on Criminal Minds.

You're eight and a half months pregnant, and as much as Buck wants to be home with you on maternity leave, you refuse to let him knowing he can't sit still for anything. The only problem is you can't sleep without him in bed with you.

This particular day, you've been uncomfortable all day. You decided to start putting the stroller together to keep yourself busy while your favorite show played in the background.

You stared at the finished product, where your dog and cat laid fast asleep, testing it. You looked at the time noticing it was later than usual and Buck still wasn't home. Feeling the exhaustion hit you, you headed to your room to change before climbing into bed and sitting there on your phone, rubbing your stomach whenever you felt a kick, slightly wincing when some were stronger than others.

When Buck finally got home you could barely keep your eyes open. "Hey, get comfy. I'm just going to change."

Once you feel the bed dip under his weight you're out like a light. Buck watches you for a minute, his hand on the belly where his daughter is growing, smiling when he feels a soft kick under his hand, "I can't wait to meet you either baby."

Sometime in the middle of the night you feel yourself stir awake, that uncomfortable feeling more intense now. You groan as Buck wakes up, rubbing his face, "What's wrong?" You look at his face as he let's out a yawn, "Nothing, just uncomfortable. I'm just gonna walk around for a little bit, stretch my legs, see if the movement gets her to settle down." Buck nods watching you pull yourself out of bed before falling back on the bed, when you hear his tired humming you smile to yourself before walking across the room a couple times before you hear the sound of water hitting the floor, making Buck shoot up, "What was that?" "I think my water just broke."

You watch as he shoots up in panic mode, "We have to get to the hospital." "Buck relax. We need clothes on first, I'd prefer some not soaking in vagina liquids. Then we grab the hospital bag and go."

He helps you change your bottoms, before sliding shoes onto your feet and helping you down the stairs. When he grabs the hospital bag he looks at where you're standing taking deep breaths, "You don't feel any contractions?" "Oh I'm definitely feeling them, but your panicking enough for the both of us."

As he drives, he's constantly checking to make sure you're okay, he can tell the contractions are getting stronger because you have your eyes closed as you keep breathing.

When you're finally in a hospital room and have been given an epidural the doctor tells you you're almost ready to push. The last thing on your minds is calling anyone to tell them.

A few hours and some screaming later, the two of you finally have your baby girl in your arms. And as much as she looks like you, despite her dad's bright blue eyes, she's already a huge daddy's girl. You watch as he takes her around the room talking to her before it hits him, "We didnt call anyone." "Call Maddie. We get discharged later today and you have the day off. When you go back to work we'll take her to meet everyone. Athena is always there for breakfast anyways. And I'll think of something for my team."

30 minutes later Maddies walking into the hospital room, a small stuffed rabbit in her arms. She can't hide the smile on her face when she sees her younger brother holding her niece. "Shes a precious little thing. What's her name?" You smile, "Evelyn." She ends up staying with you guys, following you back home to help you settle in, and to get some bonding time with the newborn.

The next day Buck looks at you as you both enter the firehouse, you can hear everyone's voices in the kitchen, thankful you can sneak in. Buck heads up the stairs first, everyone greeting him as you wait on the stairs just out of view. "Buck you want any pancakes?" "Uh sure. First I want you guys to meet someone."

You walk up the rest of the stairs the team looking confused when they see your head pop up, "Y/N-" they all stop when the see the baby in your arms and your bump gone. Athenas the first to speak, "Is that?" You can only smile showing her face to everyone as they close in to get a look at the new addition. "It is, she decided to surprise everyone and come early. Little Evie." Buck helps you sit down as everyone passes the newborn around, already having them wrapped around her finger. Eddie jokes, "Good thing she looks like her mom, we can't have another Buck running around."

Athena sits with you, "You didnt call anyone?" "No I didnt even realize they were contractions until my water broke, by that time Buck was already home and freaking out enough for the both of us. We didnt remember until she was already here, so we just decided to bring her and surprise everyone." Athena laughs, "She's definitely a surprise alright. You tell your team yet?" "No. I asked them all out for lunch, told them I'm craving Italian. Gonna walk in and surprise them."

You watch as everyone gushes over her from your spot, until the bell goes off. Buck quickly hands her to you, before kissing your forehead. You watch as everyone climbs into the trucks, waiting until they're out of the building to play the sirens. Athena rubs your back, "If it wasn't for those blue eyes, I'd say shes your mini me." You laugh looking at the girl who's looking at everything around her, "Right. But she's already a huge daddy's girl. The only time she stopped crying was when she was eating or on his chest."

When lunch comes around, you end up getting to the restaurant first. Chris and Jim are the first to arrive, Chris having to do a double take when she sees the baby in your arms, "No. Is that my niece?" You smile letting them pull you into side hugs before letting Chris take Evie into her arms, "Yeah. She didn't want to wait." Jim jokes, "Impatient like her mother." You swat at his arm with a laugh as they both coo over her, "What's her name?" "Evelyn. Buck hated it at first, but hes the one who suggested it after she was born."

The next person was Jessica, who was quick to give you a congratulations. Deacon and Tan arrived, immediately noticing your bump was gone they quickly pulled you into a hug before their attention was taken by your child.

Luca and Hondo arrived together, Luca stopped dead in his tracks getting excited, " No! Shes here?!" You laugh as he quickly wraps his arms around you before he makes his way to the group, "Its my turn to hold the little angel." Hondo pulls you into a hug before letting go, leaving one arm around your shoulders as you stare at your team all fussing over who's turn it is to hold Evie. "So you mean to tell me you went and had a baby without telling anyone?" You chuckle at his joking tone, "To be fair I didnt even know I was having contractions until my water broke. I was more focused on giving birth than calling everyone. So we decided to surprise everyone."

As everyone eats, Evie now in your arms, they all ask you questions, "Wait so you didn't know you were having contractions? And you were having them all day?" "Yeah. Like around noon I just felt uncomfortable, I thought she was just kicking and I was like its getting close to the time shes supposed to be due so maybe shes just getting more active. So I distracted myself. Buck came home around maybe 11 and we went to bed. I woke up super uncomfortable and it just felt like she was moving around and doing flips. They didnt feel like contractions until after my water broke. I was in labor for maybe 15 hours even if I didnt realize it."

Chris gasps, "We were supposed to have a surprise baby shower for you in a couple days." You laugh, "Looks like she beat you to the surprise."

Chris still holds the baby shower, just now with a guest of honor. Both the firehouse and swat are there at the park, along with their kids. Christopher taking a strong interest in Evie. "Buck are you sure you're her dad? She doesn't look like you. Y/N did all the work." You can't hold in your laugh as Buck makes a face at the kid.

As you sit down, taking a break from being a human bottle, you look around at all the people who've you've come to love. The people, you can already see have so much love for your daughter, who's not even a week old yet.

Kiss and Tell

Requested by Anon – Hondo x Reader going undercover having to kiss to avoid being seen and they both feel something. Characters – Hondo x Reader, Deacon, Chris. Word Count – 811

‘Who’s going under?’ You asked, as you continued to look at the folder. When no one answered you looked up to see them looking at each other. ‘You and Hondo.’ Jessica said, you raised an eyebrow before nodding. ‘Okay.’ You said. ‘What have we to do?’ Hondo asked, his arms crossed over his chest. ‘Walk the route that everyone else has taken, act like a couple and be normal. I suppose.’ Jessica said, everyone chuckled and ‘Do you have a change of clothes in your locker or do you need to go home?’ Jessica asked mainly you, you shook your head. ‘I have a pair in my locker, give me ten minutes.’ You said, she nodded and dismissed you to go get changed.

‘So hows you and Jessica doing?’ You asked him, as you walked down the pavement. Being in jeans was weird when you were used to your work trousers. ‘We broke up, conflicts in our interests.’ He said, you nodded before stopping, pulling his hand towards you as you looked in the window. ‘What are you doing?’ He asked you, you looked at him as you pulled him closer. ‘Window shopping.’ You said, stepping closer to the window as you looked at the random items that were decorating the windowsill. You looked behind you, noticing the two men who were following you you pulled Hondo into the small doorway and pulled his face down. You made eye contact, silently asking him to trust you before you leaned up and connected your lips with his. He froze slightly before his hand slid onto your back and pulled you closer to him. ‘Sorry.’ You said, pulling away from him as you looked over his shoulder, he was breathing heavily in your ear. ‘Don’t be.’ He said hoarsely. ‘We’ve been spotted.’ You told him, he licked his lips before nodding. ‘How many?’ He asked you. ‘Two just now.’ You informed him, he grunted. ‘Seven o’clock behind us.’ You said, pulling his arm to the front of you, as you rested your chin on his shoulder as you looked at each other. ‘How far away?’ He asked you, you glanced to the side. ‘Ten feet if that.’ You said, he smiled and nodded before pressing a kiss to your nose before leading you out the door way and you entered the shop that was next door. ‘SWAT, get behind the counter.’ You showed them your badge and directed them behind the small counter that ran along the back before you, moved into position. The door opened and the two men looked around before spotting you, you sent them a polite smile before looking back at the clothing. You watched them out the corner of your eyes as they walked towards you, they separated and stood either side of you. ‘Can I help you?’ You asked, looking at the pair of them, they looked past you to each other. ‘Come with us.’ One said, motioning with his hand, you looked at it. ‘No thank you.’ You said, picking up the shirt looking at it and tilting your head. ‘Come with us.’ He said, reaching out. ‘I said no.’ You said, turning the one that placed a hand on your arm, you shoved him hard. He stumbled backwards, falling into a rack of clothes before he was tackled to the ground by Hondo. An arm wrapped itself around your neck and you gasped, as you tried to get free realising that it wouldn’t be easy you used his height and build to your advantage. Swinging your legs forward, you gained enough momentum to landed on your knees pulling him down and over you. Groaning he landed on his back as you swivelled around and pulled his gun out, quickly cocking it and aiming it at him. ‘Stay down.’ You said, he raised his hands as he writhed around in pain, you looked over to Hondo. ‘You good?’ You asked him. ‘Yeah.’ He said, pulling his man up by the collar of his shirt.

‘So that kiss?’ Hondo asked you, you jumped slightly before shutting your locker. ‘What about it?’ You asked, turning to look at him. ‘Was their any feeling behind it?’ He asked, you racked your brain before it reacted on its own. ‘Why don’t you kiss me and find out.’ You mumbled, before you felt your cheeks heating up. ‘If you mean it, I don’t want to kiss you and then get smacked.’ He said. ‘That’s happened?’ You asked shocked, he nodded and chuckled at the memory. ‘A story for another time.’ He said, giving it a dismissive wave. ‘How about you tell me it over dinner?’ You asked him, he smiled and nodded. ‘Yeah, lets go.’ He said, offering you his arm. You took it before sliding your hand down into his, giving it a squeeze before you both left the building.
