THE WORST OF EVIL
GENRES: Action, Drama
SUMMARY: A cop goes undercover to take down one of the most powerful drug gangs in Gangnam but ends up questioning his own loyalties.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Pious jewelry, first loves, fishing trips, family pressures, ambitious DJs, lines of succession, hair-sprayed coifs, guns, knives, mistaken identities, Chinese-Japanese-Korean triads, flip phones, secret hideouts, abusive cops, and bourbon.
HOT TAKE: I don't care if both of these men are red flags in their own unique ways--I will root for them until the last drug den in Gangnam is shuttered.
There's some really great tension flowing through every scene of this show. Everyone has their own do-or-die agenda and they will all stop at nothing to see it through to the end. It's a treat to be a part of their struggles every part of the way.

You Are My Spring. 6-7
Story: 6
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 10
Comparable to: Run On (kdrama) ; When the Camellia Blooms (kdrama)
Oof this was a hard one for me to rate. I love, LOVE romantic comedies, and I love thriller mysteries too. This had both. Unfortunately with this one both didn’t mesh well together and felt disjointed. At least it felt that way for me. It was like I was watching two separate storylines that never came together. The first few episodes were brilliant. Without spoiling anything, the “mystery” sort of unraveled pretty quickly during the first couple episodes which threw everything good away and I think the writing of the show got lost, especially when every so often if something did happened bring back the mystery crime part the characters acted like it’s nothing or it’s normal (especially towards the last half when something is revealed ) Everything felt off. Now when the storyline was completely revealed about the murder mystery I was totally let down. It was really so basic and like “That’s it?” In the heart of it though yes, both main leads do have excellent chemistry together. I just wish the romance bits had less cliches and less inconsistencies, especially during the confusing flashbacks.

I am so glad the new kdramas are bringing back the specific brand of loser men. You know which brand I'm talking about. The Ahn "min min" Minhyuk brand of loser men and I'm loving it. The "I worship this goddess and I'm so in love with her and I can't believe I get to love her. Oh my gods I love her so much" brand of loser men. And we're being fed so well with lovely runner, love next door, no gain no love, my demon, Cinderella at 2am, Hierarchy, Midnight Romance in Hagwon, doctor slump, Queen of tears, welcome to samdal-ri and even good partner (yes it's one sided but the dedication and yuri's couple too).
We need more fictional loser men who worship women to satiate our eldest independent daughter desires.

If, like me, you love battle scenes, episode 6 of Goryeo-Khitan War is probably the best drama episode this year.
But also, what struck me is not just the battle scope (those scenes are filmed amazingly) but how it never loses the humanity in the vast battlescape - from the King, praying in the temple with the generals' families, to the peasant refugees to, of course, Yang Kyu.
Honestly, after this ep, he is a favorite as much as Monk King. I've liked him before (man is competent, honorable, and tough as hell but yet feels like a real human being), but this ep really catapulted it into the stratosphere. Leading a defense of a crucial fortress against a foe 100x the size of the defenders' force and doing it on no sleep, and managing brilliantly against all odds is impressive enough.
But that final scene is the best scene in the drama so far. Where the Khitan drive the refugees ahead of them and in order to defend, he has to give orders to shoot and kill his own people, unarmed, terrified, women and children. For if he does not, the fortress falls and many more people die - not just the refugees in the fortress or its soldiers, but the whole country behind it is open for the taking.
He has no other choice, but it destroys him, and Ji Seung Hyun played it brilliantly.
Btw, went looking around for more info about the man and can't find much in English but found this:
The man sounds impressive even from those bare bones couple of sentences, but this is definitely going to be thematically fitting, isn't it? Dying to rescue prisoners of war, after he couldn't do anything but slaughter them earlier to protect the country behind him.

GOOD PARTNER
GENRES: Drama, Legal Procedural
SUMMARY: A seasoned lawyer admits there’s a world for her outside of work while a newbie attorney finds her footing in a heartless world of litigation.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Bob haircuts, clever teens, glass offices, adultery, veggie omelets, camping ramen, marriage regret, failed confessions, chaebol issues, and tears.
HOT TAKE: Jang Na Ra is back as yet ANOTHER jilted wife and just like every time before, she delivers the drama in handfuls.
This show is all over the place with the emotional load. With every heartbreaking (and sometimes gruesome) interaction between clients, there's Nam Ji Hyun and her infectious, heartwarming smile to remind us there's always light in this world to rely on.
