Watercolor Cities Two Ways in Whimsical Watercolors 2!
Back into the studio we went this past weekend to enjoy watercolors in Whimsical Watercolors 2!
Our show and share this week was fabulous once again, with watercolor cities painted in two different ways. Our first project was working intuitively and creating a village landscape using the colors that we inadvertently had on our paper by sketching out and doodling buildings . It’s a super fun project because you just don’t know what you’re going to end up with!
Our second project was a little more involved, using found papers and objects to add to the base of our painted piece. The ephemera that we used for the base helped us get a “color story” together. This helped us by making it easier to choose our paint colors for the upper portion of the page. Using found papers, buttons, stickers, pieces of fabric, we collaged these pieces together for the bottom portion of our pages, making them unique and interesting!

Movies movies movies:
THE WITCH WHO CAME FROM THE SEA (1976): Disquieting, bloody psychological drama, directed by Matt Cimber (later the founder of G.L.O.W., and the basis for the "Sam Sylvia" character played by Marc Maron on the 2017–2019 G.L.O.W. TV series), about a disturbed young woman named Molly (Millie Perkins, wife of screenwriter Robert Thorn), whose horrifying history of childhood abuse causes her to sublimate sexual attraction into dissociative homicidal fits, when she isn't doting on her two young nephews or drinking herself into a haze. Vibes like an exploitation movie, but too arty and surreal to really qualify as one, and it doesn't ever feel quite like a horror movie despite the lurid subject matter; probably the closest comparison is Abel Ferrara's MS.45, with which it would make an apt double bill. Demands strong CWs for CSA and suicide, both of which are pretty rough, but it definitely makes an impression, perhaps most strikingly in the later scenes where Molly's seedy boss (Lonny Chapman) and bitchy coworker (Peggy Feury) begin to grasp how unhinged Molly has really become, leading to a disturbing finale. Too unsettling to easily recommend, hard to forget.
ALICE GOODBODY (1974): Lightweight, smutty exploitation movie, written, produced, and directed by Tom Scheuer, starring Sharon Kelly as a starstruck Hollywood waitress who loves old movies and movie stars (most of whom the people she meets in the industry have barely even heard of) and who is determined to get a small part in a new musical about Julius Caesar, even though it means sleeping with almost everyone in town. A kind of cheerful low-stakes sex comedy they don't make anymore: The situation is obviously sleazy, but not in any way that ever puts Alice in any particular jeopardy (she's in far more danger on set, where she keeps suffering different workplace accidents). The movie's central running joke is that the men whose favor she's supposed to be cultivating are at least as fixated on their own weird obsessions and neuroses as on sex, something Alice just has to sort of work around as best she can, which ends up making her sympathetic and even relatable. More likable than you'd think.
SPICE WORLD (1997): Delightfully dopey Girl Power homage to Richard Lester's A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, starring the Spice Girls, Richard E. Grant at his Richard E. Grantiest, and a cast of thousands. (Just picking out all the cameos and guest stars is half the fun.) This is what I think the Greta Gerwig BARBIE movie was going for: obviously a commercial product, and making no apologies for its mercantile ambitions, but self-aware enough and full of enough sly piss-taking to be thoroughly enjoyable even if you aren't in (or never had) a Spice Girls phase. Goes on a bit too long, but Grant's outfits alone are worth sticking it out for, and the bridge-jumping climax is very funny.
KALIFORNIA (1993): Mordant thriller starring a disconcertingly young-looking David Duchovny as Brian Kessler, a young writer who blows his advance for a new book about serial killers on an old convertible for him and his horny art photographer girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Michelle Forbes, with disconcerting bangs) to drive across the country, photographing famous murder sites. Along the way, they pick up a couple of hitchhiking hicks, Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) and Adele Comers (Juliette Lewis), to help pay for gas, not realizing that Early is a paroled convict who's just murdered someone and has no qualms about dropping more bodies along the way. Tim Metcalfe's script (with obligatory '90s voiceover narration) scores some points early on in its depiction of Brian and Carrie's obvious classism and brittle middle-class hipster intellectualism, but the story ends up validating their prejudices rather than questioning them, which keeps the film from being entirely satisfying despite its effectiveness as a thriller. The cast is very good, with Pitt and Forbes the real standouts — Pitt plays Early as a man who draws no line between aw-shucks Southern congeniality and murderous rage, while Forbes makes Carrie's mix of ambition, appetite, and roiling intensity so vivid that you come away wondering what she's doing with Brian, who Duchovny plays as a somewhat gormless jackass. As for Lewis, suffice to say this would make an interesting double bill with NATURAL BORN KILLERS, released about a year later, where she plays a variation on the same damaged theme.

Artist Research - Alexander McQueen
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I think of movement in terms of fashion I think of a runway walk, and when I think of movement in terms of art and fashion, I think of Alexander McQueen.
Alexander McQueen was born in London, England in 1969. He was born and raised there, and he left school at 16 to begin an apprenticeship at Saville Row, “the historical centre of British menswear tailoring”. After his apprenticeship he proceeded to work for Anderson & Shepard, Gieves & Hawkes, and once he turned 20, working as a pattern cutter for Japanese designer Koji Tatsuno.
After moving to Milan to pursue a job with Romeo Gigli, he returned to London to complete an MA in Fashion Design in Central Saint Martins.
McQueen was a visionary, he was highly known for his ability to effortlessly combine subversion and tradition, and his flair for the dramatic doesn’t go unnoticed. When viewing McQueens work, there is a clear exhibition of both whimsy and class, and his portrayal of models of the runway helps paint the picture of a landscape where there are no barriers between art, fashion, and performance.
An exhibition in Patricular that comes to mind is ‘Collection No. 13’, an iconic moment in fashion history.
youtube
In McQueen’s Spring 1999 show Shalow Harlow was put on a turntable as robotic arms sprayed paint on the white dress. Vogue writer Sarah Mower refers to Harlow as “a modern Leda and the Swan”. It is anticipated to have a veiled sexual interpretation related to a male orgasm, and described in the Vogue article with Harlow’s “virginal dress becoming a piece of graffiti action art”.
Tumblr media
The viewers of the fashion show had a truly immersive experience, where they got to see a live creation of a garment in real time, and that sense of excitement and originality is what McQueen is best known for.
This relates to my project through the movement involved in the presentation of a garment. I as a designer see the runway as more of a performance than a display, and I think the work I have put together also resembles a sense of whimsy and class that requires a unique exhibition of convey its meaning. I also see similarities between the spray paints from the robots looking like lines in a vein system, and from the paper croquis I produced there is an interesting sense of silhouette that resonates with McQueen’s work.

15 questions, 15 tags
i was tagged by my dear @unclewaynemunson :)) thank you lovely!
(also please excuse my lengthy answers, i get really excited and write a lot lmfao- and some of the answers vaguely mention shitty parenting, not in depth but it is brought up if anyone gets uncomfy by that! (questions 2 & 3 specifically :p)
1. Are you named after anyone? nope! my Government Name™️ is amethyst, like the stone, but my ma just thought it was cool :p i prefer aj or ham, though! i do say that aj stands for apple juice, so i guess i could be named after apple juice :pp
2. When was the last time you cried? friday! i heard really sad news regarding how my younger brothers are being parented by my biodad and it! hurt to realize he's not breaking his cycle :,)
3. Do you have kids? nope! but i do treat my oldest younger brother(the 18yo i write about a lot) like he's my son bc we had some Rough Moments™️ as kids where i was like the parent
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? yes! but a lot of people don't realize it #thankyouautism
5. What's the first thing you notice about people? oooo,,,,,, it really depends? i really stare at people's lips bc i have auditory processing issues,, and apparently i recognize people based on their mouths?? but im inclined to say eyes because i like them? idk,,, lips or eyes!
6. What's your eye color? i have centralized heterochromia! (like a big portion of people tbh, but i still think it's neat) so my eyes are like,, hazel? but not green hazel, they're grey! on the outside part at least, and the inside is like a golden brown :p
7. Scary movies or happy endings? this is hard!! i really fucking love scary movies,, all of my favorite movies are scary! but i'm a sucker for a happy ending,,, i think,,,, i may have to go scary though!
8. Any special talents? idk if it's a talent but i can macrame necklaces? and i know spanish(fairly fluently, i'm really shy with it though), and am learning asl, which i think is pretty talented?? i also can decorate a cake?(pretty basically, but i know how to do some shitty roses and write!)
9. Where were you born? chicago! (indiana tho, it's like 15 minutes away from where i was born)
10. What are your hobbies? writing, drawing, watching tv, engaging with my local bdsm & queer community!! and getting tattoos and piercings<333 (i have 27 tattoos and like,,, 17? 18 piercings? idk anymore)
11. Do you have any pets? yes! i have one cat, my sweet lady Miss Rizz! i had a cat named flamer who recently had to take his forever sleep, and i miss him dearly. <3 (i'm writing a fic vaguely surrounding this idea that hopefully will be done this weekend!)
12. What sports do you play/have you played? none :)))))) unless you count,,, fishing?
13. How tall are you? i'm 5'8! which is around 173cm for my non american buddies :,)))))
14. Favorite subject in school? languages! i took four years of spanish, one of asl, and i adored my english classes! also, art and painting! and anatomy & physiology, and pathophysiology :) i'm a big human body nerd lmao (also i'm aware i shouldve chosen one but i have too many favorites to choose just one!)
15. Dream job? good question! i'm not sure, honestly. i always say being a piercer, but i tend to get bored rather quickly of jobs and i change a lot, hence why i know how to decorate cakes but also can tell you which alarm companies have a better monitoring service, and can also make a mean ass from-scratch smash burger. i think that when i went to college(i dropped out) my dream job was being a pathologist, and i honestly think that i might still want to do that? but owning a queer run/servicing primarily queer people piercing studio sounds really fucking enticing. i could go on a whole thing about body affirming piercing and the effect it has on queer people, and how we have modern day american piercing thanks to our queer predecessors, but that's nerdy and not what the question asked! so, final answer: either a pathologist, or an owner of a queer piercing shop :p
thank you so much for reading if you did!
i'm gonna tag @cheatghost @punkharringtxn @someforeignband @courtjestermunson @corrodedcorpses @riality-check @rhaenyyras @legitcookie @princessstevemunson @sidekick-hero @babygirlharrington @fagsculinity @harmonictechnicality @strawberryspence and anyone else who wants to do this! you can tag me <3

PARTE XXII
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Salve vizinho Tanurguiano. Venha, sente-se.
Tumblr media
- Conheceste-me? - Perguntou Victor se sentando.
Tumblr media
- Sara? A esposa do taverneiro? - Vo, você a encontrou? Onde ela está?!
Tumblr media
- Oooh!
- Ela..., quem? - Perguntou Victor desentendido. - Como assim ela quem?! A princesa Kiria, é claro!

Final Watercolor Class Show and Share!
Our final Whimsical Watercolor class occurred on Sunday and we had so much fun, it was ridiculous! So much laughter and happiness while getting creative, makes the walls of the art studio sing with delight!
We wrapped up with a “show and share” of mandalas and all the different designs you are able to create. Not one was alike! And talk about so much color and vibrancy!
After our show and share, we decided to take the rest of the time creating colorful birds and envelopes from our scrap stash. Talk about a great time! We went through all of our scraps, both collected and hand painted from previous projects, and constructed adorable collaged little birds to decorate oragami envelopes. A great way to use up what we had in our stash, while making something super productive and useful. We were figuring that we could use these envelopes as gift card holders, treat holders, decor in our creative spaces, journals and all sorts of uses!
I’d love to share a photo with you but considering I didn’t take any because I was crying laughing the entire time, I’m sure you understand!
For some bonus fun that was completely over the top, I created a few little animal themed paper dolls, which totally creeped everyone out (in the most hilarious way!) Think “Flat Stanley” but with sheep and deer in dresses!

What Gave Rise To The Name Of The Enchanting Waterloo Road In Hong Kong? Nothing Can Beat A Stroll Along The Road And Visit To Some Of the Places Remembered In History
The visible thing called a ‘Street’ is made up of invisible memories that people put to the place. My ability to retrieve memories begins to falter, except the uptick of remembering those beautiful spots.
Waterloo Road (窩打老道) is an old principal north-south thoroughfare of Kowloon in Hong Kong. It stretches from Yau Ma Tei (油麻地) waterfront to Kowloon Tong (九龍塘), an expensive area at the foot of Lion Rock (獅子山), and then by means of a tunnel, get you to the new town behind the Lion Rock mountain which is named Shatin (沙田).
Nobody can explain why the street is called ‘Waterloo’. Some ridiculously said that the name was created in memory of Napoleon being defeated in the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Hong Kong, a former British colony, should have nothing to do with France. Some attributed it to the name of an official in the past but historical records do not show any official by that name.
It is rare to see a street, at its core, represent the 3 levels of people of Hong Kong. The area of Waterloo Road in Yau Ma Tei is a grassroots community. People still live in poor conditions and partitioned cubicles. The central part near Argyle Street (亞皆老街)  is inhabited by the middle class. This is why it has many pet shops. The sector close to the end of Waterloo Road is occupied probably by the jet-setters who live in elegantly furnished houses with nice gardens. When someone tells you that he has his residence on Waterloo Road, you may be curious and ask, “Which part of Waterloo Road?”
The word ‘stroll’ came from the German word ‘strollen’, which means to wander aimlessly. ‘City walking’ is now a very popular physical and cultural exercise. Please do go for a stroll along Waterloo Road and it will take roughly one hour.
You should start off with Yau Ma Tei Wholesale Fruit Market (油麻地果欄) at the junction of Waterloo Road and Reclamation Street (新填地街). This old market was built in 1913. The fruit shops are called ‘Laan’ (欄). They are all low-rise buildings carrying various signboards with beautiful traditional Chinese calligraphic characters. The great architectures have historical value. There, you see, especially at night after 9 p.m., half-naked muscular men with tattoos on their arms working very hard to transport boxes of fruits. Fruits come from different parts of the world and are extremely colourful. The amazing images evoke good photographic ideas.
Cinema has the magic to make you feel not lonely. Near the Fruit Market there is an old theatre called  Yau Ma Tei Theatre It is a pre-war opera house, established by a Portuguese in 1930. It was later turned into a movie cinema. Classic and charming, the Theatre was classified as a grade 2 historic building and conversion works started in 2008. It is now back as a Cantonese opera theatre. Cantonese opera is a performing art with a history of more than 1,000 years and you should not miss the opportunity of watching a good show in the nostalgic Yau Ma Tei Theatre.
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” I guess the middle-class persons in the central part of Waterloo Road love dogs and cats very much and it is why there are many pet shops, clinics, hotels and grooming salons in the vicinity. The locality has become as though the famous ‘pet centre’ in Hong Kong. I often go there to say hello to the popular dog breeds for their cute looks and joyful personalities. I love Shiba Inu.
Finally, you can find, at the junction of Waterloo Road and Arygle Street (亞皆老街), a popular known as CLP Pulse. The old clock tower was built in 1940. Formerly CLP (China Light and Power Company)’s head office, the brown building has been converted into a museum that shows you the intertwined histories of Hong Kong electricity development and the owner of CLP, Kadoorie Family. It also encourages the public to support decarbonisation and sustainable development through experiential activities of fun. Many photographs there are precious.
The ‘Kadoorie’s are a wealthy Hong Kong-based Jewish family. They have been doing business in Bombay, Shanghai and Hong Kong since the 18th century. The family is low-key. They have never become poorer from donating generously to the community.
Still not enough? Please visit Tung Wah Museum (東華三院文物館) inside Kwong Wah Hospital on Waterloo Road. The Museum, previously a hospital, was built in 1911. It is, in my humble opinion, the most elegant and well-maintained Chinese architecture in Hong Kong.
Life is better in motion. We stroll through the beautiful Hong Kong with the joy of a curious heart. In every walk on Waterloo Road, poor or rich section, I learn far more than I intend to seek.

WAY FOR IMPROVEMENTS
We were tasked to conduct a interview/survey to our potential costumers within Central Mindanao University wherein we gathered some informations relating to our product and we also got some new ideas to enhance our product more based on their thoughts/opinions.
The first two students we interviewed was from the college of agriculture states that our product (heavy meal) could be a success due to our affordable price range and lots of varieties to choose from.
The second was a group of five students we've interviewed was from college of arts and science, they stated that our heavy meal was okay but questioned "will it succeed? Daghan ug inana nga product in market so do you guys think it will succeed despite on the competition" in this part we felt very sad at the same time challenged, so we answered their question with the same thing we answered during the BMC that it has a big chance of success because of the uniqueness of our product and how convenient it was specially for those students and faculties who are always on the rush and for that we have satisfied their question.
The eighth student was also from the college of agriculture and she thinks that it's a great idea "chada siya nga idea ate Kay convenient kaayo siya for the students who are always in a rush like me nga straight and class no time for lunch".
The last two student from the college of environmental science gave their opinion about our product. They stated that it could use some improvements such as adding more options to our menu and strongly advised us to use biodegradable wares and they also gave their opinion regarding to our product "mas nindot if butngan ninyo Inyo menu ug some veggies like salad for those conscious sa ilang diet haha".
In conclusion of the interview we've conducted after receiving feedbacks from the interview of our potential costumers, it is clear that the product (heavy meal) being offered has been well received by the potential customers. Many have approved the affordability and range of choices available, stating that these factors can lead to our product's success. However, there are areas for improvement, including the need for more menu options, particularly on healthier choices like salads, and the use of eco-friendly packaging.
In general, their opinions suggests that our product has the potential to be successful, especially if these suggestions are implemented in the actual store/business.
