Unpopular opinion but of the trio, I do NOT think Spock is the black cat. McCoy is the black cat. Judgemental, loudly complaining, hissing and claws out to hide the fact he loves you and cares for you. He doesnt want to go on dangerous missions or be in space at all but if his friends go then hey wait up!!! Just like a cat that sits next to you pretending you're not there, but if you leave the room they follow you desperately. Jim is a golden retriever, obviously. Happy, loyal, protective, inquisitive. Spock, though, I think that he's like an octopus. Alien to the mammals and yet fascinating, intelligent, cunning, still able to connect amd communicate (especially if it's to throw a stinky fish at his friends and then pretend it wasn't him).

The funniest thing in Star Trek is the fact that everyone seems to be like "Oh Jim is so feral" or "Bones is so feral" and they're Impulsive Irrational Emotional Humans and-

It's Spock.

Spock is the feral impulsive one. He's the one who will break down doors or jump out of a window or start a fire or whatever because ✨logic✨

And Jim can't even stop him because technically Spock is absolutely one hundred percent correct. Technically. He's also absolutely insane and Bones is the only one who can see it. Spock will get an idea, a very clever one, and that's where his braincells end and he decides "Yes I will go do this thing and just rush out and do it instead of talking to Jim and Bones and agreeing on a plan like a normal person would" even though Jim will pretty much always agree with him and vetos Bones who's just losing his shit at this point.

Details I like about this scene:

1. The way Spock immediately puts himself in front of Kirk to protect him.

2. The way he stops Kirk as if he’s a child or an angry small dog.

3. The way Kirk went into even stronger attack mode when Klingon pushed Spock.

4. That Kirk doesn’t let go Spock’s arm immediately.

5. Kirk listens to and agrees with Spock while Spock is basically scolding him.

6. The fact that Spock knows his captain so well he can predict his reactions.

7. That they are standing so close to each other.

8. I can tell Spock finds this situation at least slightly amusing.
