Chargers offense stumble in preseason opener
Tumblr media
The Los Angeles Chargers take on a new identity under Jim Harbaugh this season. The head coach's presence alone seemed to have brought on a newfound level of confidence during training camp. Harbaugh's style translates to any level of football, and he is already a proven winner at the collegiate and NFL levels. Winning football was not what Los Angeles put on the field during their first preseason game against Seattle. They lost 16-3 and will have to play better when the regular season rolls around if they want to live up to the standards of the new regime. Luckily, it was just an exhibition game, but with Justin Herbert or not, the offensive scheme for Los Angeles looked pedestrian. In the first half, they went three-and-outs on their first three drives, followed by an interception and two more three-and-outs.

Photo credit: Rick Stallworth/News4usonline "There is a lot of work to be done, but now we have begun, which is positive. We have a place to start, but offensively, there was some good thing, not nearly enough," said Harbaugh. "I don't think anyone on the offensive side of the ball would be happy with that." A short field gave the Chargers their first points of the season when Cameron Dicker booted a 58-yard attempt through the uprights. Dicker is a weapon. He has been crushing field goals in practice, and after getting Los Angeles on the board with 3:26 left in the half, he then made the tackle on the ensuing kickoff. In three professional seasons, he is 52-55 on field goal attempts. https://twitter.com/chargers/status/1822440073750626396 It is very early, but they will need to start opening up the playbook as the preseason games continue. There were very few downfield opportunities, and the run game was stagnant. Considering the time of possession working against them and several star players sitting out, the defensive unit was solid. They battled against short fields and minimal rest to hold the Seahawks to only 16 points. Troy Dye and Nick Niemann help limit the damage, anchoring the defense at the linebacker position. The duo combined for eight solo tackles and two sacks in the first half. In the second half, the Seahawks managed to run over eight minutes off the clock on the first possession. They drove the ball all the way down the field to set up a first and goal from the three-yard line before the Chargers' defense stuffed them on three straight plays for an impressive goal-line stand. https://twitter.com/chargers/status/1822437287658934736 "I thought our defense played winning football. I thought our special teams played winning football, and offensively, we underperformed," said Harbaugh. Herbert's status for week one is up in the air, making the backup quarterback position an important one to figure out. Easton Stick finished the game 5/13 for 31 yards and an interception. He needs to be better in the next preseason game, or Los Angeles may start to look at other options. "Ultimately just not executing at a high enough level obviously to move the football, and that starts and ends with me, so that is frustrating," said Stick. "I think we will watch the tape and see what happened. We will go through the video and learn and grow personally and as an offense." The defense can be the anchor for this team. Although they did not play on Saturday, Khalil Mack, Joey Bosa, and Derwin James are all returning, and anytime you have three All-Pro-level players on one side of the ball, that could mean big things to come. The star trio needs to stay healthy, and other players obviously need to contribute as well, but if all goes according to plan, they should be a stout group. "I am always excited to play with that guy," Mack said of playing alongside Bosa. "We haven't had a lot of time together on the field, which is unfortunate at this point. He is a special talent. He can be one of the best guys in the league when healthy." Mack and Bosa are still two of the top pass rushers in the league, which will really help Harbaugh and his staff in year one. Better days are ahead for the Chargers, and there is a lot of optimism that this will be a very competitive team when everyone is on the field. Read the full article

Title: The Unseen Blow: The Impact of Coach Jim Harbaugh's Anticipated Suspension on Michigan's 2023 College Football Season
Tumblr media
Introduction In the world of college football, accountability is key. It is a world of strict rules, towering expectations, and severe consequences. Michigan's esteemed head coach, Jim Harbaugh, is reportedly set to experience this first-hand. With an impending four-game suspension looming over the beginning of the 2023 college football season, Michigan and Harbaugh find themselves in a challenging spot. As per a recent report from Yahoo Sports, this suspension is part of a negotiated punishment with the NCAA for alleged false statements to investigators. Harbaugh’s Anticipated Suspension: The Underlying Cause Harbaugh's anticipated suspension is not a sudden development. It is the result of an NCAA investigation into accusations of recruiting violations. According to the report, Harbaugh allegedly provided false statements to officials, prompting this dramatic repercussion. The NCAA, a strict enforcer of rules and integrity in college sports, asserts that Harbaugh wasn't truthful during the probe. However, Harbaugh isn't the only individual in the spotlight. Three other current or former Michigan assistants, including former defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, are expected to face sanctions as well. Macdonald, now under the wing of John Harbaugh, Jim's brother, at the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, seems to be caught in this controversy too. The Implications for Michigan's 2023 Season The impact of this suspension on Michigan's 2023 season is potentially monumental. Read the full article

Jim Harbaugh is new Chargers coach
Tumblr media
The Los Angeles Chargers needed desperately to make a game-changing move in the franchise’s first offseason since firing Brandon Staley late in the 2023 season. The Chargers took that step of going bold with the hiring of Jim Harbaugh, who used to play quarterback for the team.  “Jim Harbaugh is football personified, and I can think of no one better to lead the Chargers forward,” said team owner and Chairman of the Board Dean Spanos. “The son of a coach, brother of a coach and father of a coach who himself was coached by names like Schembechler and Ditka, for the past two decades Jim has led hundreds of men to success everywhere he’s been — as their coach. And today, Jim Harbaugh returns to the Chargers, this time as our coach. Who has it better than us?”

Photo credit: Dennis J. Freeman/News4usonline.com The hiring of Harbaugh removes the stench of the Chargers being afraid to go big and go after a well-known name in the coaching world. It also marks a significant progressive step towards the team to stay relevant even in their backyard with the Los Angeles Rams and USC Trojans owning the lion’s share of football fans and adoration.   That very well could change dramatically with Harbaugh coming back home to Southern California. Things haven’t gone too well in the Chargers head coaching carousel. The last three head coaches under former general manager Tom Telesco flamed out.  With a boatload of talent around them, Mike McCoy, Anthony Lynn, and Staley, just weren’t able to elevate the Chargers to NFL elite status. Instead, mediocrity set in over the last decade. That’s about to change with Harbaugh, who played for the Chargers during the 1999 and 2000 seasons.  “The only job you start at the top is digging a hole, so we know we’ve got to earn our way. Be better today than yesterday,” Harbaugh said. “Be better tomorrow than today. My priorities are faith, family and football, and we are going to attack each with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind. This organization is putting in the work — investing capital, building infrastructure and doing everything within its power to win. Great effort equals great results, and we’re just getting started.” Harbaugh is fresh off of leading the Michigan Wolverines to the national championship. During his tenure at Michigan, Harbaugh guided the Wolverines to three Big Ten titles and three straight College Football Playoff appearances. Before he became a successful coach within the college ranks, Harbaugh was already carving out his legacy at the NFL level. As head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Harbaugh took his team to the Super Bowl (Super Bowl XLVII) and made three trips to the NFC Championship Game. In his previous stint as an NFL head coach, Harbaugh’s record was 49-22-1.

Freeman/News4usonline.com “You don’t build a resume like Jim’s by accident, and you don’t do it by yourself,” said President of Football Operations John Spanos. “You need a team. And nobody has built a team more successfully, and repeatedly, in recent history than Jim Harbaugh. His former players swear by him, and his opponents swear at him. Jim is one of one, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him back in the Chargers organization as our head coach.”    Harbaugh basked in the nostalgia of coming back to a franchise he once played for. The memories are good ones. This time around, Harbaugh will be running the show instead of being a participant.  “When I played for the Chargers, the Spanos family could not have been more gracious or more welcoming. Being back here feels like home, and it’s great to see that those things haven’t changed,” Harbaugh said.   Harbaugh is the brother of Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.    Read the full article

Kaepernick’s old #49ers coach #JimHarbaugh penned this piece for #TIMEmagazine about Kaepernick for their top #100influentialpeople in the world list. Here is what he said.⠀ ⠀ #ColinKaepernick was alone in his early #protests last year when he #boldly and #courageously confronted perceived #inequalities in our #socialjustice system by refusing to stand for the national anthem. At times in our nation’s #history, we have been all too quick to judge and oppose our fellow #Americans for exercising their #FirstAmendment right to address things they believe unjust.⠀ ⠀ Rather than besmirch their #character, we must #celebrate their act. For we cannot pioneer and invent if we are fearful of deviating from the norm, damaging our public perception or—most important—harming our own #personal interests.⠀ ⠀ I thank Colin for all he has contributed to the game of football as an outstanding player and trusted teammate. I also applaud Colin for the courage he has demonstrated in exercising his guaranteed right of free speech. His willingness to take a position at personal cost is now part of our American story.⠀ ⠀ My question is will he get picked up? (at New York, New York)
