Nongbu for dinner
Had dinner at Nongbu with my family recently. We've ordered take-out several times during the pandemic but we've never gone to eat there together until recently~
Tumblr media
We went on a Sat at 5:15pm or so. We were the only ones there at the time, & during our almost 2-hr dinner, there were only 3 other groups of diners. It was kind of depressing considering it was Saturday. ..
Tumblr media
Cheese ramyeon pancake. Normally the spicy mayo is drizzled on top of the pancake but they served it on the side bcos we had kids so didn't want to make it all spicy. The texture was nice but I felt it was lacking in cheese flavour. There also wasn't a much ramyeon as I thought; a lot of it was batter.
Tumblr media
The seafood green onion pancake. Generous amount of seafood & green onion. Surprisingly less batter than the cheese ramyeon one above. Bland on its own; you'll definitely need the soy sauce.
Tumblr media
Our family favourite: the squid + pork belly stir-fried noodles. For some reason, this tastes better as a take-out than dine-in. I don't know why! Or maybe just a one-off? This didn't have as much smokiness than take-out. But nonetheless, very good!
Tumblr media
1st time ordering this: the jjimdak, ie: braised chicken (+ veggies, potato, & glass noodles). This was unevenly spicy, which was hard to explain. I think it's bcos of the chili peppers. If you eat around a region that had some chili peppers there, it'll be a spicy bite but if you take a piece of potato from the bottom/sauce area, it's not spicy.
Tumblr media
The butter bulgogi rice. This was actually our favourite item for the evening!
Tumblr media
The bulgogi hotpot (called bulgogi jeongol on the menu).
Tumblr media
The side-view.
Tumblr media
This was pricey & wasn't that good.. . it was disappointing. I felt the amount of broth/water was way off. When it started boiling, & the beef started 'going down', we needed a bowl to take some of the liquid out or else it would have boiled over. The flavour was also lacking. I think it needed some/some more of the beef stock powder stuff.
Tumblr media
On-the-house honey butter rice cake. This was our 2nd flavourite of the evening. The exterior was kinda like. .. candy-like. Some pieces had a harder shell than others but that's okay. Very enjoyable~
Overall, the food wasn't as great as our usual take-out items. We wanted to try things we can't get as take-out & they were disappointing. So I think we'll just stick to take-out in the future. .. OR order our usual take-out items if we decide to dine-in again.

keep thinking about my chicken in the freezer.... will make chicken broth from carcass obviously and i want to try and figure out smth like chicken miso ramen with it... i haven't done andong jjimdak in a while so maybe thats what i'll do with the limbs. i am probably out of glass noodles so i wonder if i can use any of my fun colored rice noodles instead... thighs can work nicely for dumpling filling with my leftover cabbage idk what to do with... and then i have chicken breasts left so i can just make pasta or dump it in the oven with vegetables....

So I was tagged by @three-lesbians-of-the-apocalypse in another '9 People I'd Like To Know Better' meme, so I'm gonna do the meme, throw a question back at the original tagger, and then spread this plague further.
1. Last Song. Help Is On The Way, by Rise Against, by choice. WAP, by Cardi B, feat Megan Thee Stallion, because my boyfriend decided he wanted to exercise in the living room to sexy music, and I wasn't gonna stop him.
2. Favorite Color. Red. Incidentally, Mirror's Edge is one of my favorite games.
3. Currently Watching. ダンジョン飯, Delicious In Dungeon. I started it purely on the strength of Marcille reaction gifs and Senshi fanservice, but oh boy is this my exact rotten garbage fire.
4. Sweet/Spicy/Savory. Yes. Next question.
Okay but actually. Sweet, I'mma say good chai, for spicy I have to go with kimchi pajeon, for savory it must be jjimdak.
5. Relationship Status. 8 years committed, recently co-habiting again after giving it a shot a few years back.
6. Current obsession. Linked Universe is looming large in my mind right now, but it's competing with my D&D campaigns, Changeling: the Lost, and my list of WIPs. I did just move, tho, so everything is getting shaken up.
7. Last Thing Googled. "Neuralink human trials," because I needed outside confirmation that this insanity was actually happening and not a fever dream served up by Twitter. Results did not inspire confidence.
RETURN VOLLEY:
8. Most Recent Finished Project? For me that's probably got to be the Zuko/Haru fic I wrote last year on a brainworm-fuelled fit of insanity. Maybe I should make it a goal this year to knock out more WIPs.
THE POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS I'D LIKE TO KNOW BETTER: @chiptrillino @lizardlicks @transboyzuko @ranilla-bean @electro-strike-zukka-time @vawobe @quitebizarre @raythecomputerart @kyolypso

Discovering the Delicious World of Korean Chicken Recipes
Korean cuisine has gained international acclaim for its bold flavors, vibrant colors, and diverse textures. Among the many delicious dishes Korea has to offer, chicken recipes stand out for their unique and mouthwatering appeal. From crispy fried chicken to savory stews, Korean chicken dishes are a culinary delight that deserves a spot in your kitchen. Let's explore some of the most popular and delectable Korean chicken recipes.
1. Korean Fried Chicken (Yangnyeom Chicken)
When it comes to Korean chicken, Yangnyeom Chicken is a showstopper. Known for its crispy exterior and juicy interior, Korean fried chicken is double-fried to achieve an extra-crispy crust. It's then coated in a sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce made from gochujang (Korean red chili paste), garlic, soy sauce, and honey. The result is a perfect balance of flavors that leaves you craving more. Serve it with pickled radish and a cold beer for an authentic Korean experience.
2. Dak Galbi (Spicy Stir-Fried Chicken)
Dak Galbi is a popular Korean dish that combines bite-sized pieces of chicken with an array of vegetables, rice cakes, and a spicy gochujang-based sauce. Often cooked on a large griddle at the table, Dak Galbi is both a delicious meal and a fun social experience. Common additions include sweet potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and scallions. Once the main ingredients are devoured, rice is often added to the remaining sauce and stir-fried to create a flavorful fried rice.
3. Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup)
Samgyetang is a nourishing and comforting Korean soup made with a whole young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, garlic, jujube (Korean dates), and ginger. The chicken is simmered until tender, resulting in a rich and aromatic broth that's believed to have health-boosting properties. Traditionally enjoyed during the hot summer months to combat heat fatigue, Samgyetang is perfect for any time you need a comforting and nutritious meal.
4. Dakgangjeong (Sweet Crispy Chicken)
Dakgangjeong is a popular Korean street food known for its sweet and crispy qualities. Small pieces of chicken are first deep-fried to a crunchy perfection, then coated in a sticky glaze made from soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger. The addition of peanuts or sesame seeds adds an extra layer of texture and flavor. Dakgangjeong is often served as a snack or appetizer, but it's so addictive that it might just become the main course.
5. Jjimdak (Braised Chicken)
Originating from the city of Andong, Jjimdak is a flavorful braised chicken dish that's both savory and slightly sweet. Chicken pieces are braised with a variety of vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and onions in a soy-based sauce infused with garlic, ginger, and gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes). Glass noodles are often added towards the end of cooking, absorbing the delicious sauce and making the dish even more satisfying. Jjimdak is perfect for sharing at family dinners or gatherings with friends.
6. Dak Bulgogi (Korean BBQ Chicken)
Dak Bulgogi, or Korean BBQ chicken, is marinated in a flavorful blend of soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and gochujang. The marinated chicken is then grilled to perfection, resulting in tender and juicy meat with a slightly smoky char. Dak Bulgogi is typically served with a side of rice, lettuce leaves for wrapping, and an array of banchan (Korean side dishes) for a complete meal. It's an excellent dish for summer barbecues and gatherings.
7. Dak Kkochi (Chicken Skewers)
Dak Kkochi are tasty Korean chicken skewers that are perfect for grilling. Chicken pieces are marinated in a savory sauce made from soy sauce, honey, garlic, and sesame oil, then threaded onto skewers and grilled until slightly charred and caramelized. These skewers are a popular street food in Korea and make for a great appetizer or party snack. Serve them with a dipping sauce made from gochujang and mayonnaise for an extra kick.
Korean chicken recipes offer a delightful array of flavors and cooking methods that cater to a wide range of tastes. Whether you're in the mood for something spicy, sweet, savory, or comforting, there's a Korean chicken dish that's sure to satisfy your cravings. From the irresistible crunch of Yangnyeom Chicken to the hearty warmth of Samgyetang, these recipes showcase the rich culinary heritage of Korea and invite you to bring a taste of this vibrant cuisine into your home. So, grab your ingredients and get ready to embark on a delicious journey through the world of Korean chicken dishes.

I was happy today.
It wasn't a particularly extraordinary day-- I went to work, a regular 8 hours. Caught a dance class afterwards. Made jjimdak (my new favorite weeknight dinner), and and got an extra hour of work in for my second job.
It's the end of the year so there's much to be done. Everyone's pushing through a mountain of tasks in order to enjoy two precious weeks of time off.
Not even a full two weeks though-- 11 days if we're being precise. Sometimes I don't feel like it's worth it to have a vacation if it means I have to do so much beforehand.
But despite how overwhelmed I usually feel at this time (and, well, all the time), I found myself surprised to note that I did, indeed, feel happy.
At least for today.
Even if tomorrow comes with many lows, I want to remind myself that today was real. Even in the midst of the chaos, there are small, quiet moments where I am content.
