Quote
In keeping with his new dignity as commander of the select corps of the Continental Army, Lafayette asked John Holker, the French consul at Philadelphia, to find for him a horse ‘of a perfect whiteness and the greatest beauty.’ Holker found a magnificent animal for which Lafayette estimated he had paid one hundred louis d'or and embarrassed the marquis by refusing to be reimbursed for his expenditures.
Lafayette In America by Louis Gottschalk, Book 3, pg. 123. Bless Holker for kindness…and for flustering Lafayette with a taste of his own generosity for a change.

Babyface
Tumblr media
Kenneth Brian Edmonds (born April 10, 1959), known professionally as Babyface, is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He has written and produced over 26 number-one R&B hits throughout his career, and has won 11 Grammy Awards. He was ranked number 20 on NME's 50 of The Greatest Producers Ever list.
Early life
Edmonds was born on April 10, 1958, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Marvin and Barbara Edmonds. Barbara was a production operator at a pharmaceutical plant. Edmonds, who is the fifth of six brothers (including future After 7 band members Melvin and Kevon Edmonds, the latter of whom went on to have a modestly successful solo career), attended North Central High School in Indianapolis, and as a shy youth, wrote songs to express his emotions. When he was in eighth grade, Edmonds' father died of lung cancer, leaving his mother to raise her sons alone. At this stage, Edmonds became determined to have a career in music.
Music career
Edmonds later played with funk performer Bootsy Collins, who tagged him "Babyface" because of his youthful look. He also performed in the group Manchild (which had a 1977 hit "Especially for You" with band member Daryl Simmons) as a guitarist. In 1982 Edmonds played with funk band Redd Hott produced by Geoge Kerr. He played keyboards in the light-funk and R&B group the Deele (which also included drummer Antonio "L.A." Reid, with whom he would later form a successful writing and producing partnership). One of his first major credits as a songwriter for outside artists came when he wrote the tune "Slow Jam" for the R&B band Midnight Star in 1983. The tune was on Midnight Star's 1983 double-platinum No Parking on the Dance Floor album. Babyface remained in the Deele until 1988, when both he and Reid left the group.
His album Playlist consists of eight cover songs and two original works. It was released on September 18, 2007. It was the first album on the newly re-launched Mercury Records label.
On February 4, 2014, he released a Grammy Award-winning duet album with Toni Braxton titled Love, Marriage & Divorce on Motown Records.
Other ventures
Writing and producing
From the late 1980s to the early 90s, he wrote R&B and dance songs, writing and producing music for Bobby Brown ("Roni"), Karyn White ("Love Saw It"), Pebbles ("Girlfriend", "Mercedes Boy"), The Whispers ("Rock Steady", "In the Mood"), The Deele ("Two Occasions"), Johnny Gill ("My My My"), After 7 ("Ready or Not"), The Boys ("Dial My Heart"), Damian Dame ("Right Down to It") and Sheena Easton.
In 1989, Edmonds co-founded LaFace Records with Reid. Three of the label's early artists, TLC, Usher, and Toni Braxton, were very successful. TLC's second album CrazySexyCool, for which he wrote and produced some of the hits, became the best-selling album of all time by an American girl group. Under his direction, TLC sold more than 60 million albums worldwide, and a combined total of 75 million records. Toni Braxton's first two albums, Toni Braxton (1993) and Secrets (1996), for which he wrote the majority of the songs, went on to sell a combined total of over 10 million copies in America alone.
Babyface helped form the popular late-1990s R&B group Az Yet. Edmonds also helped to mold and work with some of his then-wife Tracey Edmonds' acts, such as Jon B and producer Jon-John Robinson.
Edmonds has worked with many successful performers in contemporary music. “I’m Your Baby Tonight” (1990), produced for Whitney Houston, was Houston's introduction to R&B music and Edmonds' first No. 1 Top 40 hit in the US. He also wrote and produced Boyz II Men's 1992 "End of the Road" and 1994 "I'll Make Love to You", both of which established records for the longest stay at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. He co-wrote, co-produced, and provided backing vocals on Madonna's 1994 Bedtime Stories, which featured the seven-week No. 1 hit "Take a Bow", and shared billing with Eric Clapton on the chart-topping Grammy winner "Change the World" from the Phenomenon soundtrack. He also wrote and produced the No. 1 hit "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" for Houston as well as the rest of the critically acclaimed 10 million-selling Waiting to Exhale soundtrack in 1995, which spawned additional hits for Houston, Brandy and Mary J. Blige.
Additionally, Edmonds has produced and written music for many artists including Bobby Brown, The Whispers, Pebbles, After 7, Johnny Gill, Deele, Karyn White, The Boys, Damian Dame, Tevin Campbell, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Sheena Easton, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Paula Abdul, Eric Clapton ("Change the World"), Whitney Houston, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Tamia, Shola Ama, 3T, Sisqó, Dru Hill, Fall Out Boy, Céline Dion, Samantha Jade, Backstreet Boys, Honeyz, Katharine McPhee, Mariah Carey, Vanessa L. Williams, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Chanté Moore, En Vogue, Zendaya, Kenny G, Kristinia DeBarge, Lil Wayne, Kevin Abstract, P!nk, Marc Nelson, TLC, Ariana Grande, Jessica Mauboy, Xscape, K-Ci & JoJo, NSYNC, Jordin Sparks and Phil Collins, among others. He received three consecutive Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year from 1995 to 1997.
Babyface was in the studio for about two years with Ashanti to produce her album The Declaration (2008).
He worked on the Lil Wayne album Tha Carter III (2008), on the Kanye West-produced "Comfortable". He also worked with R&B singer Monica for her sixth studio album Still Standing (2010).
In 2013, Babyface served as producer for Ariana Grande's debut album Yours Truly, producing the majority of her songs, including her second single, "Baby I".
In September 2014, Babyface collaborated with Barbra Streisand on her album Partners, performing a duet on the track "Evergreen" and background vocals for other album tracks.
Babyface also collaborated with Foxes on her second album, All I Need (2016), producing and co-writing "Scar".
In July 2016, Babyface along with Bruce Roberts and Carole Bayer Sager helped write the song "Stronger Together" sung by Jessica Sanchez. The song was played after Hillary Clinton's speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The song's title is named after the slogan that the Clinton campaign used as a show of uniting behind the Democratic nominee. The song was one of the top trending songs on Shazam that week. The song was widely perceived as positive by the listeners, and received praise by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.
Acting career and film producing
In 1994, he appeared and performed on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 entitled "Mr. Walsh Goes to Washington (Part 2)".
In the mid-1990s, Edmonds and his then-wife Tracey Edmonds expanded into the business of motion pictures. Upon setting up Edmonds Entertainment Group, the company producing films such as Soul Food (1997), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), and also the soundtrack for the film The Prince of Egypt (1998), which included contributions from numerous artists, including Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. They also executive produced the BET reality series College Hill (2004-2009). Edmonds also worked with David Foster to compose "The Power of the Dream", the official song of the 1996 Summer Olympics, performed by superstar Céline Dion. Linda Thompson provided the lyrics.
Babyface also participated as a duet partner on the Fox reality show Celebrity Duets (2006).
He was portrayed by Wesley Jonathan in the 2015 Lifetime biopic Whitney and is portrayed by actor Gavin Houston in the Lifetime biopic based on Toni Braxton entitled Un-Break My Heart, which premiered on the network in early 2016.
On August 30, 2016, Babyface was revealed as one of the celebrities who will compete on season 23 of Dancing with the Stars. He was partnered with professional dancer Allison Holker. He and Holker were eliminated on the fourth week of competition and finished in 11th place along with Vanilla Ice and Witney Carson.
Soda Pop Records
Edmonds founded his record label Soda Pop Records in 2009. Since founding the label he has signed R&B icons K-Ci & JoJo, releasing their first album for the label entitled My Brother's Keeper. In 2013 Babyface secured a distribution deal with E1 Music for the label.
Personal life
Babyface married his first wife, Denise during his young adult years. In 1990, Babyface met Tracey Edmonds when she auditioned for the music video for his song "Whip Appeal". They married on September 5, 1992, and have two sons, Brandon and Dylan. On January 7, 2005, Tracey filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. In October 2005, Babyface and Tracey announced that they were ending their marriage of thirteen years.
In 2007, Babyface began dating his backup dancer Nicole "Niko" Pantenburg (former backup dancer for and personal friend of Janet Jackson). Babyface and Pantenburg have a daughter born in 2008. The pair married on May 17, 2014.
In 2015, Babyface donated money to the presidential campaign of Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Impact
In 1999, a 25-mile (40 km) stretch of Interstate 65 that runs through Indianapolis was renamed the Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds Highway.
Babyface was placed at number 20 on NME's "50 of the Greatest Producers Ever" list. NME wrote of his impact:
"One of the founding fathers of all the best bits of modern US R&B. And so you can't hate him if some of the schlock can be traced back to him also. Babyface was a pioneer of New Jack Swing in the 80s, before setting up LaFace with old mucker Antonio 'LA' Reid to give the world TLC, Usher and Toni Braxton under their guiding hand. There's barely a prominent artist in the genre he hasn't worked with, and as a result he's clocked up a mammoth 26 R&B number ones."

Whistler -Nocturne in Black and Gold, the Falling Rocket, 1875
The Falling Rocket is fundamentally composed of bleak tones, with three main colors: blue, green, and yellow. Restricted in its use of colors, the piece develops a muted yet harmonious composition. The billowing smoke gives the viewer a clear distinction between the water and the sky, where the separation blurs into a cohesive and somber space. It is this large avalanche of fog that represents the rocket of the title. Dabs of yellow enliven the artwork as exploding fireworks in the misty air. The figures watching are almost transparent, their shapes general and simplistic. To the left, the artist signs his name in a manner that has clearly been influenced by Japanese prints, with thick, straight brushstrokes that appear to imitate Japanese characters. Influenced by Japanese artists like Utagawa Hiroshige, Whistler spent years perfecting his splatter technique. Eventually he possessed the ability to make an object or person with what appeared to be nothing more than a single flick of paint. Although Whistler's critics denounced his technique as reckless or lacking artistic merit, it is notable that Whistler spent much of his time with meticulous details, often going so far as to view his work through mirrors to ensure that no deficiencies were overlooked.
The Falling Rocket retains a certain degree of colour-laden luminosity that provokes spatial ambiguity set against a structure of line and form. Nocturnes were a series of paintings which, through painterly style, were evocative of differing night time scenes. The artist insisted that they were not pictures, but rather, scenes or moments.
Working against contemporary inclinations for narrative (indicative of the heavy consumption of literature), Whistler can be seen arguing for painting's essential difference from literature within this work, as colour and tone trounce hints of narrative or moral allusion. Whistler's focus was on coloristic effects as a means of creating a particular sensation. More than that, a Nocturne is concerned with its depiction of space, seeking a particular sense of void that seems to arise only in the night time. As part of the Art for Art's Sake movement, the artwork seeks to provide complex emotions that go beyond the technicalities of the imagery. Whistler believed that certain experiences were often best expressed by nuance and implication. These compositions were not designed to avoid the truth of a scene, but instead served as a means of reaching deeper, more hidden truths. His artistic endeavours no longer concerned themselves with physical accuracy, seeking only to capture the essence of an intangible, personal and intimate moment. The Falling Rocket is the synthesis of a fireworks scene in London, and so by no means does it aim to look like it. Like his other Nocturnes, the painting is meant to be seen as an arrangement, set to invoke particular sensations for the audience.
Affronted by The Falling Rocket, John Ruskin accused Whistler of "flinging a pot of paint in the public's face" in the Fors Clavigera. As a leading art critic of the Victorian era, Ruskin's harsh critique of The Falling Rocket caused an uproar among owners of other Whistler works. Rapidly, it became shameful to have a Whistler piece, pushing the artist into greater financial difficulties. With his pride, finances, and the significance of his Nocturne at stake, Whistler sued Ruskin for libel in defence. In court, he asked the jury to not view it as a traditional painting, but instead as an artistic arrangement. In his explanation, he insisted that the painting was a representation of the fireworks from the Cremorne Gardens. During the trial, Sir John Holker asked, "Not a view of the Cremorne?" to which Whistler was quoted as saying, "If it were a view of Cremorne, it would certainly bring about nothing but disappointment on the part of the beholders." However, his case was not helped when The Falling Rocket was accidentally presented to trial upside down.[7] His explanation of the composition proved fruitless before the judge. The Ruskin vs. Whistler Trial, which took place on November 25 and 26, 1878, was disastrous for Whistler. While he did not lose, he only won a farthing. After all the court costs, he had no choice but to declare bankruptcy. Whistler was forced to pawn, sell, and mortgage everything he could get his hands on.
John Ruskin (1819-1900) had berated Whistler's paintings long before the event leading up to the trial. Four years earlier he had denounced Whistler's art as "absolute rubbish". It is speculated that Ruskin was envious of Whistler's close relationship with Charles Augustus Howell, who often aided Whistler financially – especially after the court case. It is also said that the artist's lack of homage offended Ruskin. Whistler was not the only person disturbed by the art critic's commentary. Henry James was one individual that spoke out against Ruskin, remarking that Ruskin had begun to overstep his bounds as an art critic, becoming tyrannical in his diction – so much so that to see him brought to court over his offensive words was perceived as a delight. It has been suggested John Ruskin suffered from CADASIL syndrome and the visual disturbances this condition caused him might have been a factor in his irritation at this particular painting.

Biden harnesses influencer star power to ramp up digital outreach
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since last week, Biden has participated in several Instagram Live interviews with influencers and celebrities, including actress and talk show host Keke Palmer, Jerry Harris of Netflix’s docuseries “Cheer,” Youtuber Bethany Mota and dancer Allison Holker. And there are more to come, a Biden campaign adviser tells Appradab. Prior to these interviews, Biden had only participated in one Instagram Live during his campaign, with soccer star Megan Rapinoe, in April.
As the national conversation revolves around racial justice and police brutality, this first round of digital partnerships were mostly targeted toward influencers with younger, black followings. The platform and specific partnerships will vary to accommodate different issues and audiences.
“It’s also contingent on when there’s a conversation to be had that reaches a demographic that we want to talk to,” said Meghan Hays, deputy communications director for the Biden campaign. “There were a lot of things that were timely in the news that made sense, when it comes to these Instagram Lives, to have an influencer conversation.”
The push exposes Biden to followers who may not otherwise have seen content put out by the campaign, whether on Twitter or on its own Instagram account. Palmer has 9.6 million followers compared to Biden’s 2.4 million, and shares over half of her followers with users like Beyoncé, Cardi B and Kevin Hart, while half of Mota’s 4.6 million followers are shared with pop star Ariana Grande, according to Instagram analytics. Combined, all five Instagram accounts reach over 20 million individual followers. A bite from Holker’s interview also posted on TikTok, where she has a reach of 2.3 million followers.
“We view it as incredibly important to get off of our own platform and to reach people in demographics that we need to reach in order to win the election,” Biden campaign digital director Rob Flaherty said. “Whether it’s a celebrity or an influencer or a platform like the Shade Room, we’re going to different places to be able to leverage that incremental reach.”
The idea behind these partnerships is to form “real, unscripted” dialogue between the candidate and the influencer. While Biden may be reaching new demographics through these mediums, his message remains unchanged. In his interview with Mota, who is 24, Biden, a student of history, recycled an oft-repeated Franklin Roosevelt quote, and he told Harris that his inspiration to run for office came from Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.
During his interview with Harris, when asked what he would say to minorities who are not registered to vote because “they feel like it isn’t important and doesn’t matter,” Biden responded that the vote is the most “powerful nonviolent tool” available.
“I know I’m 100 years older than you, OK,” Biden joked. “But in the words of my friend John Lewis, he’s a real civil rights hero, is — the vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have.”
Vickie Segar, the founder of Village Marketing, an influencer marketing agency, has been engaged with the Biden campaign to help manage their partnerships with influencers.
“We chose the first group because they all had very topical questions that they wanted answered, and they had a varied audience,” Segar, who is consulting the campaign, told Appradab.
Harris, for example, had just registered to vote, while Holker, who is 32, is a young mom. Right after the campaign had approached Holker to participate in an interview, she went viral in a video with her husband, dancer Stephen “tWitch” Boss, that highlighted white privilege.
Segar says the campaign chose Palmer because they thought she would ask real, unfiltered questions.
“She asked whatever she wanted, and that’s what we expected. And we got Biden’s real answers about things that he felt were addressing concerns that she has in the black community,” Segar said.
Palmer, for her part, made clear in the video’s caption that her interview with Biden was not an endorsement.
“I hesitated because I know people might be quick to judge this as a political endorsement, but then I thought about it and realized that I am a host. I interview people for a living and we millennials deserve to be heard someway somehow,” she wrote. “I did this to help myself and hopefully others get more engaged in the conversation before we cast our votes this November and I am willing to ask the same questions to anybody else trying to be in a position of power that cares to hear what we think.”
It’s no secret that Biden, who would be 78 years old on Inauguration Day if elected, has struggled to gain support from the youth demographic. But according to a recent New York Times poll analysis based on an average of live interview polls from May and June, Biden leads Trump by 22 points among voters aged 18-34. That is an 8-point improvement from a Appradab April analysis and is about equal to how Clinton did with them, though Biden leads by about 5 points more among all voters than Clinton in national polling.
As calls for justice on racial issues and swift movement in police reform grow increasingly louder, Biden has received pushback from progressive groups like Sunrise Movement and Black Lives Matter, both groups which feature large swaths of younger voters, for not taking more aggressive criminal justice action. All of this comes amid the backdrop of a global pandemic that threatens to create economic hardship.
Last month, the campaign launched League 46, a grassroots effort focused on mobilizing young voters designed to bring together young Americans of “every race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability, economic background, and geographic area” to build “armies” of supporters across the nation.

Quote
First the right and then the left gave way, ‘the enemy making a devil of a noise of firing and huzzaing.’ Soon 'all on our side became a scene of confusion,’ and flight became too rapid to check. Lafayette ordered Galvan to try to rally the men on the other side of the marsh. He himself galloped from group to group, risking himself in a manner which his officers afterwards said was foolhardy. 'Not a man in the whole detachment was more exposed.’ He lost two horses in the melee. One was the beautiful animal which Holker had given him, shot from under his groom as it moved by its master’s side. The other had its jaw fractured.
Lafayette In America by Louis Gottschalk, Book 3, pg. 266. ‘Mad Anthony’ Wayne and Major de Galvan were caught in a surprise attack by a maneuvering Cornwallis. Lafayette had been alerted to the presence of British troops after John Graves Simcoe saw fit to burn boats under continental control before retreating. Attempting to alert Wayne, he found the American forces already under attack. For the life of me, I can’t find the reference, but I seem to remember an anecdote that says Lafayette was pitched from his first horse when it was shot down and lay motionless, momentarily stunned. The American line began to falter and panic, thinking the general had been killed. But once he’d gathered himself, Lafayette popped back up and called for his second mount. I’ll keep looking for the author of the vignette, but it’s a bit funny and hazardous to imagine him calling for Wayne’s men to hold their ground with the wind knocked out of him.

Babyface
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kenneth Brian Edmonds (born April 10, 1959), known professionally as Babyface, is an American singer, songwriter and record producer. He has written and produced over 26 number-one R&B hits throughout his career, and has won 11 Grammy Awards.
Early life
Edmonds was born on April 10, 1959, in Indianapolis, Indiana,to Marvin and Barbara Edmonds. Barbara was a production operator at a pharmaceutical plant. Edmonds, who is the fifth of six brothers (including future After 7 band members Melvin and Kevon Edmonds, the latter of whom went on to have a modestly successful solo career), attended North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as a shy youth, wrote songs to express his emotions.
The tune was on Midnight Star's 1983 double-platinum No Parking on the Dance Floor album, and while it never was a single, it received massive radio airplay and the song is still played on quiet storm radio stations.
In the late 1980s, he contributed to the creation of new jack swing, writing and producing music for the likes of Bobby Brown, Karyn White, Pebbles, Paula Abdul and Sheena Easton.
In 1989, Edmonds co-founded LaFace Records with Reid. Three of the label's early artists TLC, Usher, and Toni Braxton were very successful. TLC's second album CrazySexyCool, for which he wrote and produced some of the hits, became the best selling album of all time by an American girl group. Under his direction, TLC was able to sell more than 60 million albums worldwide, and a combined total of 75 million records.
“I’m Your Baby Tonight” (1990), produced for Whitney Houston, was his first No. 1 hit "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)" for Whitney Houston as well as the rest of the critically acclaimed 10 million-selling Waiting to Exhale soundtrack in 1995, which spawned additional hits for Houston, Brandy and Mary J. Blige.
Additionally, Edmonds has produced and written music for many artists including Carole King, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Faith Evans, Al Green, Beyoncé, Diana Ross, Sheena Easton, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Michael Bolton, Paula Abdul, Eric Clapton, Pebbles, Tevin Campbell, Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Tamia, Shola Ama, 3T, Sisqó, Dru Hill, Fall Out Boy, Céline Dion, Samantha Jade, Backstreet Boys, Honeyz, Katharine McPhee, Mariah Carey, Vanessa L. Williams, Chanté Moore, En Vogue, Zendaya, Kenny G, Kristinia DeBarge, Lil Wayne, Japanese singer Ken Hirai, P!nk, Colbie Caillat, Marc Nelson, TLC, Ariana Grande, Ella Henderson, Jessica Mauboy, Xscape, K-Ci & JoJo, NSYNC, and Phil Collins among others.
Babyface also collaborated with Foxes on her sophomore album, All I Need (2016), producing and co-writing "Scar".
In July 2016, Babyface along with Bruce Roberts and Carole Bayer Sager helped write the song, "Stronger Together" sung by Jessica Sanchez. The song was played after Hillary Clinton's speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. The song's title is named after the slogan that the Clinton campaign uses as a show of uniting behind the Democratic nominee. The song was one of the top trending songs on Shazam that week. The song was widely perceived as positive by the listeners, and even received praise by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.
Acting career and film producing
In 1994, he appeared and performed on an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210 entitled "Mr. Walsh Goes to Washington (Part 2)".
In the mid-1990s, Edmonds and his then-wife Tracey Edmonds expanded into the business of motion pictures, setting up Edmonds Entertainment Group and producing films such as Soul Food (1997), Josie and the Pussycats (2001), and also the soundtrack for the film The Prince of Egypt (1998), which included contributions from numerous artists, including Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
In 2007, Babyface began dating his backup dancer Nicole "Nikki" Pantenburg (former backup dancer for and personal friend of Janet Jackson). In 2008, Babyface and Nicole welcomed a daughter. The pair married on May 17, 2014.
In 2015, Babyface donated money to the presidential campaign of Republican Senator Marco Rubio.
Legacy
In 1999, a 25-mile (40-km) stretch of Interstate 65 that runs through Indianapolis was renamed Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds Highway.

WEEK 6 RECAP: Halloween Night October 29, 2018
Tumblr media
Spoopy dances. Joe is still in the game. That’s pretty much it.
Dances
Milo | contemporary | 10 10 10
A contemporary set in a psych ward to a spooky cover of “Toxic.” Using mental illness as a Halloween theme, it was a spectacular dance and Milo’s best dance so far. Witney said it’s “the creepiest dance I’ve ever choreographed.” Your Halloween night contemporary that also got a perfect score would like a word.
John | paso doble | 6 7 6
A paso doble about the dead king and queen of hearts join the circus and are sword fighting in the after life? I don’t know. John seemed as confused by the concept as I was. John served a lot of scowling and and a bit of bad timing. John was put too much on his plate and it’s so sad to see because I know they’re trying their hardest to juggle the material.
Demarcus | salsa | 8 9 9
The judges were very polite and I don’t see why. Maybe they’re nice because he was in jeopardy last week? Their lifts are always top notch so I will give them that. Sharp as a whip. Too bad his posture was slightly hunched. “Crisp as a Pringle.” - Len.
Evanna | tango | 10 9 10
This week’s goal is to stop trying to please other people because it holds herself back so this week she danced for herself. Finally, some plot development! The dance was okay. But we have to remember this is about the tenacity of the human spirit. Did she execute a perfect tango? No. Did she execute the strength of her spirit? Yes. Did she give us character development? Absolutely. So it that aspect the tango was a success.
Bobby | Argentine tango | 8 7 7
Since Bobby has been traveling back and forth between Nashville and Los Angeles to do his radio show he has been sleeping like three hours a night so he danced to a creepy version of “Mr. Sandman.” The dance was like if you took Frankie and Witney’s halloween contemporary leftovers and made a leftovers sandwich out of it. Tom says drink when there is a neck crack and I say drink when I mention Frankie’s contemporary.
Mary Lou | tango | 8 8 8
Another therapy session with Mary Lou. In Mary Lou’s package we get more from her backstory about how she went through a divorce and the show is giving her strength. In her dance Mary Lou lived every teacher’s fantasy of obliterating one of her students for coming in late. I feel like she has gotten what she needed out of the competition and can exit proudly.
Alexis | jazz | 9 9 9
Alexis has been in jeopardy twice so it’s time to turn up the telenovela plot. This week Alexis confessed to Alan she her feelings for him are getting more serious like we all do, surrounded by 10 producers with cameras. Alan says he can’t confess his love until he is absolutely sure. Drama! To commemorate their sexual tension they danced to… “candy man” by Christina Aguilera?” The producers probably thought “this is what we can afford to license this week so this is what you get.”
Joe | Argentine tango | 8 7 7
Joe and Jenna went with their significant others to a haunted hay ride for research, which seemed more like an infomercial for this venue than a genuine get together. Joe and Jenna danced a tango to the same song Olympic skaters Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skated to. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 rule is: you don’t reference a great work is your crappy work. Despite it’s flaws, it was Joe’s best dance. It’s funny how Joe’s most lively dance is the one where he played a half-dead monster.
Juan Pablo | jive | 10 10 10
The more tired Juan Pablo gets the sexier he gets? Now that Tinashe is gone he is my eye candy. Because the sketching thing last week worked so well for Juan Pablo that this week he sketched out his costume because according to him he designs his Halloween costumes every season. This egyptian pharoee jive was the perfect was to end the night. He is amazing and he is shaping to be finals material.
Tom Bergeron’s Quip of the Night
“There are a lot of puns tonight. Don’t make a drinking game out of it. You will not survive.”
Len Goodman’s Zinger of the Night
On John’s paso: “You looked like a waiter giving h’orderves.”
The Phantom’s Music of the Night
“Night time sharpens, heightens each sensation.”
In Jeopardy
Mary Lou and Alexis
Elimination
Mary Lou and her partner Sasha
Obeservations
The longest opening I’ve ever seen. We are so spoiled with these 1:00-1:30-long dances that when a dance is any longer (tonight’s opening was a 3:00 long) it draaaaaags
Milo pranked Erin Andrews with fake blood and the audience stayed silent. It was so bizarre like something out of a Kubrick movie
Carrie Ann looked stunning as Morticia Adams
I wish Sasha’s Halloween scares could be longer
Sexy Eyes Wide Shut-inspired DWTS Tour preview
Performances from Jabbawalkeez and married duo Alison Holker and TWitch
The winner this season is Ozempic. Today I learned you shouldn’t share needles on Ozempic
The phantom of the ballroom must not have been pleased with Alexis because the music went out during her dance
