       catherine had always been a fairly light sleeper. her mother used to wake her early in the mornings to help her get things ready for their day, making sure william and anne would be putting their best foot forward when things began. but she also knew HOW TO SLEEP IN. better than kat did at any rate. the feather light kiss to her forehead roused her a little, and the lack of kat’s warmth next to her did the rest. so before kat could fully move away from her, she reached out and grasped the woman’s hand. ❝ you know, ❞ she murmured, sitting up with still tired eyes and wild hair from the previous night, ❝ i’ve never before met someone who woke EARLIER than i do. why are you always in such a rush ? the world will still be there in an hour or two, kat. if elizabeth’s hair is on fire i’m sure she’ll let us know. ❞

       catherine shook her head, swiftly STEPPING FORWARD to hold her lover from behind. she was careful not to jostle anything too much, just gently holding her and meeting her gaze in the mirror. ❝ i mean it, kat. you look stunning, truly. i only wish... ❞ she trailed off, cursing her tongue for letting even a hint of this sentiment show. ❝ i wish i could be BY YOUR SIDE tonight. openly. ❞

       catherine knew kat had A FIERCE SIDE to her. she saw it in the way she defended elizabeth, in the ferocious debates cate sometimes managed to coax her into. but this...this was something else entirely, and catherine had to admit she found it incredibly attractive. she gasped softly as her back hit the wall. kat may have been a lot shorter than her, but she had a STRENGTH that catherine, with her luxurious upbringing, never would. ❝ k...kat, ❞ she breathed, hands landing at the other woman’s hips. ❝ what on earth...has brought this on ? ❞

        catherine hadn’t laughed this much in a very long time. she wasn’t sure what had compelled kat to sweep her into her arms and start dancing with her, but it was a kind of intimate playfulness that catherine had missed. and when kat leaned in closer, catherine was RIGHT THERE with her, lips meeting hers. ❝ kat, ❞ she breathed, resting their foreheads together when she pulled away, ❝ i’m so incredibly happy, truly. ❞

       catherine was trying and failing NOT to smile at the comment. her fingers brushed gently along kat’s arm, subtle enough to be mistaken for something totally innocent. she wasn’t expecting kat to be so bold as to say something, but she liked this side of her. ❝ kat, ❞ she laughed, voice just above a whisper, ❝ don’t tempt me. i’m WEAK ENOUGH as it is when it comes to you...i’d have to retire early and elizabeth wants us here. ❞
