Little backstory: when i was a 10 y.o. Kagamine Rin was my most fav vocaloid ever, and half of my notebooks were filled with drawings with her act2 and Append designs. Sheesh! I still consider her and Len's Append design as criminally underrated 🍊⚡

Happy Birthday Kagamine Rin and Len act2! In response to the reception to the quality of the original VOCALOID2 release (now referred to as “act1″), Crypton released a free update to the twins on July 18, 2008. The update boasted higher quality vocals - although some users prefer act1 for their tone and vividness. In addition, KEI slightly altered the artwork for the act2 release.

They were the first voicebanks to ever receive an update.

she is 4 minutes older than len and of course she won't let anyone forget it!

looks up to miku a lot and sees her as kind of a big sister figure (which is also why i personally don't ship mikurin...but outside of my personal headcanons it is a really great and cute pairing!)

in the synthciv au rin and len ended up being trans bc when they were first developed, their data got mixed up. they didn't understand why their names and bodies didn't match up with their identities for a while. fortunately they were welcomed as their true identities and they were able to have their bodies modified (which would end up being their ACT2 models) to alleviate any sort of dysphoria they had

oliver has no canon height so i see him as being thd same height as rin (about 5 feet tall)

always talks very softly and uses a lot of stereotypical british language such as "the loo" and "innit"

knows a basic amount of BSL but does not use it

big al and sweet ann are kinda sorta parent figures but he refers to them by their full names.

in the synthciv AU he was originally gonna have both eyes, but a freak accident led to a fire that disfigured him. (it also disfigured sweet ann. she was in much worse condition, actually, and had to get an entirely new model made; this would be her taiwanese design.) oliver mostly recovered, but he wanted to have a similar monster aesthetic to big al and sweet ann, so he asked for the left side of his face to be left alone. hence the bandage. the bandages on his legs are just for aesthetic. also kinda related to this, fun fact: oliver's concept art had him without the bandage until his final design

the PV itself is mirrored on bilibili but it's the 2017 remake of the song. the audio from the very first upload isn't anywhere

k.TAMAYAN's youtube and NND seem to be privated or outright deleted, but piapro still has the ACT2 version, 2017 remake, and his bandcamp has 2 album versions

Sorry for the shit mixing. I sill can't mix. OTL Out of the "Most difficult to work with" ranks, Prima is up there with Rin/Len ACT2. Like the Kagamine ACT2, she lacks clarity.

The original voicebanks of Kagamine Rin and Len were rushed onto the market to take advantage of Hatsune Miku's success, and were released just four months after her. Crypton apologized for this and the low quality voicebanks it resulted in. They released the act2 update to address these issues.

The act2 Kagamines are a standalone release, unlike their Append, but they were offered as a free expansion disc to owners of the original voicebanks until September 2008.
