After a hard night spent slaying demons, she knows they’re both worst for wear so she isn’t trying to hold him up, but of course, she can’t resist helping some strangers along the way. She smiles politely even through her exhaustion and fatigue as she bids the villagers goodbye and they keep giving her bento after bento, “Thank you again! Really it was my pleasure!” She waves them goodbye but can hear Sanemi’s footsteps picking up faster.

Guilt courses through her but she just hurries to catch up, “W-wait! Shinazugawa-san!”

She races after him clutching the bentos with care. They were no closer to the inn and if she was being honest, her legs are going to give out soon but she’s going to put on a brave face anyway. It’s just how she is.

“Everyone else is probably still asleep so I promise I won’t slow you down anymore!” She says as confidently as she can muster through her exhaustion. @rumblehashira

Sanemi's brow twitches as Miyazaki calls out to him. He only hastens his pace, hands clenched at his sides until they're almost fists. There's always more for them to do. For every demon they cut down, there are ten more that return. The demon slayer corps was drowning in nee of hashira as demons only grew stronger with every passing night and bite of flesh they took in.

There was something as too kind and too gullible. People like them didn't have the luxury of stopping to help every person they passed. But that's what Kaiya insisted on doing every mission they were ever assigned together, without fail.

It made him grind his teeth.

When was she going to figure it out? Every time they were delayed another night, someone else was dying to a demon. He was aware the the corps couldn't be everywhere. Painfully so, in fact. But that didn't mean they should waste their time for shits and giggles.

"If you don't wanna be left behind, stop wasting our time." Sanemi snaps.

18. what is one thing you’d wish to see more in the rp community?

is it too predictable or unfair if i say more enthusiasm for oc’s? let me say first that my experience on this blog is the best i’ve ever had by far -- all of y’all are so nice and show interest in my oc’s and it makes me feel very very thankful to have found mutuals who are willing to give them a chance!! so when i say that, it isn’t directed at anyone i follow at all!!! but i do notice other mutuals with oc’s occasionally feeling down bc their characters aren’t getting enough attention or worrying that if they make one, they won’t get to write them much. and personally, i fret over making certain canon characters more available bc if they suddenly get more attention than the characters i’ve built from the ground up, that’s an icky feeling. 

i know it can be tiring to read through bio’s, but? don’t we read hundreds of chapters for characters of our favorite manga? i dunno, oc’s are a soft spot for me, so this is always going to be on my mind uvu 

19. who is an author that inspires you?

is it alright if i cheat and talk about hayao miyazaki bc technically he’s an author since he’s a writer, even if it is for movies asdfg bc honestly speaking, miyazaki has influenced my preferences so much as a writer, from the characters i write to the kind of fiction i enjoy and where my focus lies when i’m writing. depending on the film you choose, you’ll get different themes and whatnot, but 99% of the time, you’re going to find strong female characters, found family or life-changing relationships, and emphasis on the beauty of nature. 

it’s really obvious i have a preference for female muses, but i never make female characters who need to be saved. do they need a lil help or guidance bc they let their minds sabotage them? yeah, but in the way that sophie needed help to realize the way she saw herself wasn’t accurate, or in the way chihiro and haku helped each other remember who they really were. and using those two examples again, sophie and chihiro experience the found family trope/life-changing relationships, and that helps them grow as people. that sort of character development is always something i favor bc it’s so satisfying, especially when i’m writing a character like chiyo or makiko who have a lot of skewed perceptions about themselves. they could eventually turn out okay by themselves, but their relationships give them the extra push they need and provide a sense of healing and validation that really!! touches my heart :’ ))

as for the beauty of nature, it’s something that comes out a lot more lately bc of kaiya who looks at the world with so much wonder, but i often find myself writing my characters finding comfort in nature in some way. chiyo loves the rain to the point that she’ll play in it even as an adult and risk a cold, and the sounds of thunder soothe her; makiko views fall and winter as periods of rest and reflection and feels most at peace watching the sun rise. even in my writing, i have a tendency to compare my characters or my partner’s muses to things like the sun and flowers, too, or i’ll describe emotions similarly. you get the idea asdf 

also may i point out my river guardian/dragon oc, mister yubari, and the lore i’ve barely talked about on here that is 100% inspired by spirited away and japanese mythology : ) i love dragons and mythology too much and i blame miyazaki for the brainrot i occasionally experience as a result

Background Story

       Privilese.

        Mungkin ketika menciptakan seorang Yanai Kaika, Dewa Matahari menuangkan terlalu banyak privilese ke dalam wadah. Menjadi anak sulung laki-laki, Kaika selalu diagung-agungkan oleh keluarga yang masih cukup menganut patriarki. Yanai Kaika hidup bergelimang harta dan serba punya. Parasnya mungkin dapat membuatnya berjajar di antara dewa-dewa mitologi Yunani, tubuhnya pun terbentuk apik hasil berlatih anggar sejak ia baru mahir membaca dan menulis. Namun, tetap saja, Kaika hanya manusia biasa. Ia memiliki kelemahan yang sebenarnya tidak begitu tampak, meski akibatnya begitu terasa. Seolah privilese di atas masih belum cukup, kekurangannya ini juga memberikan dampak baik berupa perhatian. Kaika adalah seorang atlet anggar yang mengidap hemofilia, membuat kedua orang tua hingga kakek dan neneknya begitu awas dengan kehadiran serta kesehatannya. Wira itu selalu mendapatkan atensi lebih dari orang-orang di sekitarnya. Semua orang, kecuali adiknya sendiri, Yanai Kaiya.

       Hubungan mereka merenggang bukan tanpa alasan. Tentu karena sebuah kelemahan lain, sesuatu yang—sama seperti penyakitnya—berada di luar kuasa. Miyazaki Sora terlibat di dalam percintaan rumit bersama Yanai Kazumi yang telah beristri, pun kedua wanita itu mengandung buah hati yang jaraknya tak terpaut jauh. Entah pantaskah disebut sebagai karma, Sora kehilangan nyawanya ketika melahirkan Kaika, seolah menyerahkan atma miliknya pada sang anak adam. Keluarga besar Yanai tentu tak sampai hati untuk menelantarkan seorang bocah laki-laki yang tubuhnya masih begitu merah. Bermula dari rasa tak tega, kini Kaika malah dilimpahkan begitu banyak rasa sayang. Terdahulu, ia dan sang adik sangatlah dekat selayaknya saudara yang masih sebaya, banyak bertengkar namun mereka terlewat sering bersenang-senang bersama. Namun, ketika menginjak usia remaja, Kaiya tak lagi melihat Kaika dengan tatapan yang sama. Pertengkaran yang biasanya hanya sementara, kini berlanjut lebih lama dari yang seharusnya. Fakta pada akhirnya tidak dapat disembunyikan, tidak dapat dipungkiri pula bahwa tuan turut merasa bersalah meski hati kecilnya bertanya; mengapa Kaiya begitu marah dan menyalahkannya?

       Kaika tak pernah meminta untuk dilahirkan seperti ini.

       Bukan hanya Kaiya yang menjadi alasan kepala Kaika pening, sang sepupu, Yanai Yashuhiro, juga seringkali membuat darahnya mendidih. Jika Kaika adalah pemilik Central Park yang luas, Yashuhiro lah pemilik dari benua Amerika. Memang benar, Kaika mendapatkan begitu banyak cinta. Namun, Yashihiro mendapatkan jauh lebih banyak cinta dari keluarga Yanai, terutama dari sang kakek. Rasanya, sorot lampu yang semula tertuju pada Kaika berpindah begitu saja jika Yashuhiro berada di ruangan yang sama. Jarak umur mereka memang lumayan jauh. Tetapi, sejak pertama kali menggenggam épée, Yashuhiro adalah rival untuk adik sepupunya. Mereka bersaing sehat, meski diam-diam, Kaika menaruh rasa iri atas perhatian dan kasih sayang yang diterima Yashuhiro.

       Siang itu, Kaika diminta untuk melaksanakan sparring bersama sang kakak sepupu, latihan terakhir sebelum Yashuhiro berangkat ke Budapest, Hungaria, untuk sebuah kompetisi anggar dunia. Sedari hari di mana pilihan pelatih terjatuh pada Yashuhiro, Kaika masih tidak dapat menerima kenyataan bahwa bukan ia yang akan berlomba di luar negeri. Sebuah ide telah disusun apik untuk mencelakai Yashuhiro. Dengan hati bersih nan naif milik sepupunya, Kaika yakin bahwa Yashuhiro akan lebih dari rela membantu seorang wanita tua yang kehilangan dompetnya. Bermodalkan beberapa lembar uang, Kaika meminta seorang nenek lusuh yang terduduk di dekat gedung olahraga untuk mendukung rencananya, menyembunyikan dompet kosong si nenek dan meminta Yashuhiro untuk mencari dompet itu. Dengan begitu, Yashuhiro akan terlambat mengikuti latihan dan tak akan sempat melaksanakan peregangan.

       Semuanya berjalan lancar hingga Yashuhiro kembali dengan mengatakan telah melakukan pemanasan. Kaika tak dapat benar-benar membaca air wajah kakak sepupunya; apakah Yashuhiro mengatakan yang sesungguhnya? Apakah itu berarti, rencana Kaika telah gagal?

"Touché!"

"Aaaah!"

"Nii-san!" pekik Kaika lantang. Yashuhiro jatuh tersungkur, tepat setelah memperoleh poin.

Sesuai dengan rencananya.

       Kepuasan itu hanya bertahan sementara. Mimpi buruk benar-benar datang ketika Yashuhiro telah diperiksa dan cedera yang dialami lebih dari apa yang Kaika kira; peradangan pada otot dan urat, beserta tulang yang patah.

       Tidak seharusnya Yanai Yashuhiro mengalami cedera separah itu. Kaika juga seorang atlet, ia memperhitungkan apa yang ia eksekusi dan rasanya, tidak mungkin dampak yang diterima sang korban akan begitu parahnya. Apa mungkin, ia salah perhitungan? Perasaan Kaika kalut, takut, dan khawatir. Ia tidak sengaja, dan ia masih bisa menutupinya. Telunjuk Kaika mengarah pada Yanai Kaiya dan Yanai Akira, sepupunya yang juga turut serta menginap di rumah Yashuhiro tempo hari. Ya, siapa lagi kalau bukan mereka? Kaika 'kan, berada di gelanggang. Ialah saksi mata atas kecelakaan Yashuhiro dan tidak mungkin Kaika yang bersalah. Kalau pun iya, ia yakin bahwa ia bukan satu-satunya.

       Sudah jatuh, tertimpa tangga. Kaika kira, ialah yang akan menggantikan Yashuhiro untuk bertanding. Nyatanya, berkebalikan. Yanai bersaudara dititahkan untuk bersekolah di Kintsugi Highschool, sekolah internasional berasrama. Sang adam sempat melambungkan protes karena sudah sejak jauh hari ia meminta untuk bersekolah di sekolah yang berbeda dengan adik dan sepupunya, pun bukan sekolah yang berasrama. Hati Kakek Yanai melembut, hanya sedikit, dengan mengizinkan Kaika memilih jurusan yang ia mau; jurusan yang berbeda dengan Kaiya beserta Akira dan apa pun yang memiliki anggar di dalamnya. Tidak hanya itu, sang kakek juga memastikan bahwa Kaika akan selalu aman dan tidak pernah kesepian, sebab sepupunya yang lain, Takahara Ryuuji juga akan ikut serta bersekolah di tempat yang sama, pun jurusan yang sama.

       Bisa jadi, Yanai Kaika adalah tersangka atas cedera yang dialami Yanai Yashuhiro. Namun, ia akan membuktikan bahwa kedua tangannya bersih dan kesalahan ada pada Yanai Kaiya dan Yanai Akira.

Kiana was passing by early one morning, spotting the Rumble Hashira with widened eyes. She’d never seen this Demon Slayer Corps member before - but it wasn’t time for the semi annual meeting so, how could she? Approaching slowly - waving like an idiot - Kiana smiles at the individual.

“hi~”

Kaiya, who was just finishing getting rid of some warn supplies she no longer needed, turns with a bubbly smile towards the fellow Demon Slayer Corps member and gasps excitedly. It was rare for her not to know a fellow member but at least it wasn’t because she was running late for the semi annual meeting this time!

She claps her hands together excitedly before waving with an equal almost overwhelming level of excitement, “Hi! We haven’t met before, have we?” She asks not waiting for an answer as she excitedly draws closer with a soft giggle, “Well I mean, obviously of course we haven’t, I would’ve remembered the sound of your voice and recognized your heartbeat!” She explains cheerfully before realizing she’s rambling and trails off, “…Anyway! I’m Miyazaki Kaiya!” She bows politely, “It’s a pleasure to meet you!”

About Kaiya (Regular Timeline)

Kaiya Miyazaki is a shorter-than-average-height woman, only standing at a height of 5’1” with tan copper brown skin. She has curly purple and pink hair, with faint yellow almost white and pink undertones. Her eyes are a blueish green and have been described being simply to sea after a storm. Her eyes hold no light to them but her pupils are drawn in a zigzag shape, similar to lightning bolts. Though her hands have few calluses, the tips of her fingers are rougher than most from her constant training.

Kaiya wields both the classic nichirin sword and a nichirin kurasarigama that she keeps out of sight but tucked away around her waist under her haori. In this universe, she uses Thunder breathing and Storm Breathing. Storming breathing, which is a subtype of thunder breathing, is something she created for herself by accident when she was trying adapt during a particularly tough battle prior to her becoming a Hashira. Her birthday is August 7th and she uses she/her pronouns and identifies as nonbinary.

Her English Voice claim is Brina Palencia and Japanese voice claim Mai Nakahara.

About her personality

Kaiya comes off as a very bubbly and friendly person. She is very polite and always addressing people in a polite and warm manner. She is always smiling and happy to lend a helping hand. This kindness of hers tends to go a bit overboard as she will literally bend herself over backwards to help anyone she comes into contact with. Most people, especially her fellow Hashira, describe her as kind hearted and reliable as long as you tell her about meeting you several days earlier than you need her or else you'll be stuck waiting for her to find no one left to help first. She comes off as ditzy but she will never turn her back on anyone that needs her.

Although her fellow Hashira both tease her and complain about her constant tardiness, they also know that Kaiya is quite cunning as well. In her blue eyes speckled with green lies a storm. She's studied her fellow hashira and is constantly strategizing different ways to be of use to them and take out the enemy quite mercilessly. She's very intelligent but is cunning in the manner in which she handles letting information slide. It's rumored that once she was tortured by a demon and never once did she stop smiling until she found the right path to end his life. Will she confirm or deny the rumors about her? Only if she finds it entertaining or useful. She's also a very playful individual, going so far as to even tease demons that she finds annoying. Through it all Kaiya rarely stops smile, even at her angriest it takes a lot to break down her fox-like charming smile.

Despite her kind and caring nature, Kaiya does have a boisterous and downright sadistic side to her as well. It takes a lot to push her to the brink of her anger but this side of her, she tries to reserve exclusively for demons if she can help. When angered, her voice can either boom loud like thunder, enough to rattle someone down to their bones, or it can become quiet and still like the calm before the storm. Kaiya deeply resents this side of herself for the most part, finding this side of her repulsive and proof that she is truly an evil person and bad omen only meant to lead others to their doom no matter how good she appears to be. However, Kaiya fails to realize that this anger stems from the grief she went through when losing her brother so brutally and the suffering she endured in the village she was forced to flee to. As a result of this secret loathing for the "undesirable" parts of herself, Kaiya has deemed herself as unfit to be anyone's bride and incapable of loving anyone truly. Kaiya tries her hardest to bury her true feelings about others even from herself.

Backstory

Kaiya had a rather pleasant childhood.The daughter of a teapot artisan, Kazuo Miyazaki, and a seamstress, Reina Miyazaki,Kaiya lived a fairly happy childhood in her quaint little village. Her parents were doting to both her and her younger brother, Hinata.

Kaiya spent most of her childhood learning different trades from her parents. Her father taught her to play Shogi when she was 7 years old after she begged him to. She never beat him once and yet he never let his daughter give up with a bright smile on his face. From her mother, Kaiya learned sewing but also some basic martial arts, including: Hojojutsu, which is a martial art technique that restrains a person using a rope. Her mother taught her martial arts due to wanting her daughter to never feel defenseless while her father focused on strengthening her mind as he lacked the same strength his wife had.

A week after her 13th birthday, there was a demon attack that took the lives of 3 children Kaiya was fairly close to. Three days later, 2 more people were killed. In panic, the villagers banned together to get their children out of harms way. They did their best to make the best fortified carriage they could, working around the clock to make sure they would be ready.It took a few days and a few more people had lost their lives due to demon attacks but in the end they successfully finished the carriage. The parents put as many children as they could inside, 25 kids squeezing tight together giving their parents tearful goodbyes. Kaiya and Hinata were among them, though Kaiya was one of the oldest she was still one of the most hesistant to leave.

They were meant to travel for 7 more days until they reached the village for safety. Unfortunately a sick baby, started crying nonstop during the night which attracted demons to the carriage. After the carriage was ripped open, Kaiya was flung into a tree and blacked out for only a second while children were picked off. When she came to, her younger brother was trying to carry her and run. Knowing that they wouldn’t make it, Kaiya told her younger brother to put her down so they could both run.

Unfortunately, Kaiya would be the sole survivor of her village as she was faster than her brother who died trying to reunite with her right as the sun was coming up on the horizon.

Upon hearing her brother’s final cries, Kaiya would forget about her own safety and race back to save him but it was too late. By the time she reached him, he was already gone as were the demons. Kaiya would carefully drag him into the shade of wreckage of the carriage, as she was too exhausted and traumatized to bury him.

Little did she know, that Hinata would be turned into a demon though they wouldn’t be reunited until 2 years after Kaiya had become an official member of the Demon Slayer Corps. Unable to kill her younger brother she loved so dearly, she barely survived his attacks and he gave her one of her first scars, a long jagged slash to her side.

“介” which means help. Along with the kanji “矢” arrow, bow, to shoot.

Initially started out with Thunder breathing then created Storm Breathing. She uses both as she feels it suits her best.

Kaiya is noted to have amazing hearing, capable of hearing multiple people’s vitals at once. As well as being able to commit someone’s voice to memory and read behind the lines of most people’s tones.

She has AUDHD. (Shorthand for having autism and adhd)
