my version of 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐢, Uryu's mom and Ryuuken's devoted wife. Am I planning on cosplaying most of the Everything but the Rain volume? perhaps... ps: it is a real tear. I was really crying. I was listening to nothing can be explained, thinking of little Uryu suffering his mom's loss.

Masaki: We should set up a play date.

These two are so affected, in such different ways, by the insular world they grew up in. Ryuken feels like it was his responsibility to protect Masaki, so much so that he feels he has failed even though she is fine, and even though he did his level best and it was her own damn fault she got hurt. But no, he's going to resign as head of the family before he's even taken the position, because the way the Quincies have organized themselves as an isolated hierarchy means there is no room for error.

And meanwhile, Kanae stands feet away from a person she probably knows better than anybody, knowing the anguish he must be feeling. But she has to express it in the language of servitude, because it wouldn't be her place to comfort a person who could desperately use it.
