Just taking a minute to share a few caps from Kawaii dake janai Shikimori-san by Keigo Maki and talk about inclusivity. Our main character here, who is extremely unlucky and somehow always gets in trouble, also has a poor health condition that makes him weak to heat / sunlight. This is just a scene about high school friends going to the beach together, but they are taking in consideration their friend's health and chose instead to go to the valley. Note that they are very respectful while also not making a big deal out of it all : it is just normal to take that in consideration. They aren't pushing it onto the main character either, they asked him what he wanted to do. That is really important to me because making choices for a disabled person isn't inclusive, we know better what our boundaries are and if we want to push them or not. Proposing an inclusive option and asking your disabled friend what they'd rather do is so sweet. Like, for real. I ain't even invited to anything anymore, my abled "friends" don't really exist anymore in my life now that I can't do much things / say no often. So yeah, the fact that this character with a health condition is automatically included by his friends in such a caring way went right to my heart. That is so important. Also overall that romcom is super sweet, the main girl is badass and takes really good care of her clumsy boyfriend, and he slowly gains confidence in himself too. Give it some love, it deserves it.
