They don’t bother with a goodbye to Kunikida, but they do send him a smug smirk that is poorly received. Kunikida glares back, putting an arm around Kenji’s shoulders and ushering him inside.

Chuuya heads down the stairs, snickering to themself. Before they reach their car, however, someone calls their name.

They look up and see Kunikida with his glasses on this time, leaning over the railing. Kunikida holds up a sheet of paper folded in half, tossing it towards them. It glides smoothly down and Chuuya stabilises it with their ability before receiving it.

Chuuya unfolds the paper. The words freshly-painted cube are written neatly, with a smiley face drawn at the bottom right.

Before they can question Kunikida, there’s a sudden, blinding glow. The paper materialises into a bright red cube, just about the size of Chuuya’s palm. They freeze, staring at it with wide eyes, before registering the words and dropping the cube with a gasp.

When they hold their palms up, they see that their gloves are stained with red paint. Chuuya whips their head to the balcony, but Kunikida has retreated into his dorm once more, leaving them alone and aghast.

“If that’s how you wanna play,” Chuuya mutters darkly, all traces of amusement vanishing that instant.
