Carla Moran, a hard-working single mother, is raped in her bedroom by someone — or something — that she cannot see. This is the loosely based on facts story of Carla Moran, a woman who was allegedly tormented and sexually molested by an invisible demon. Regardless of if the facts of the case are fictionalised for impact, or if indeed there is any basis of truth to the attacks in question, The Entity as a film fails to rise above average due to sloppy direction and a very poor script, whilst the score from Charles Bernstein is akin to being hit over the head repeatedly with a blunt instrument. That said, the film isn’t a total wash out, there are genuine moments of dread in the piece, and most of the tension and fear is realised from a very credible performance from Barbara Hershey as Carla. The nature of the beast with this type of picture will always be open to either scoffing or a fear of the unknown, so to get the audience involved with a topic like this you really need your protagonist to be believable, Hershey manages to do this in spite of the character bei...

VIRGINIA Confederate names restored
Tumblr media
4 years later, board votes 5-1 for change, citing due process lack
A Virginia school board voted Friday to restore the names of Confederate military leaders to a high school and an elementary school, four years after the names were removed amid nationwide protests calling for a reckoning over racial injustice.
In a reversal experts believe was the first of its kind, Shenandoah County’s school board voted 5-1 to rename Mountain View High School as Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary as Ashby Lee Elementary.
Friday’s vote reversed a decision by the school board in 2020 when school systems across Virginia and the South were removing Confederate names from schools and other public locations in response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project, which maintains a database of more than 2,000 Confederate memorials nationwide, is not aware of another case of a school system restoring a Confederate name that was removed, said senior research analyst Rivka Maizlish.
Overall, the trend toward removal of Confederate names and memorials has continued, even if it has slowed somewhat since 2020, she said, noting that the Army renamed nine installations named for Confederate leaders, and removed a Confederate memorial from Arlington National Cemetery.
In Virginia, local governments had been banned from removing Confederate memorials and statues until the law was changed in 2020, though the statute did not apply to school names.
On Friday, school board members who voted to restore the Confederate names said the previous board ignored popular sentiment and due process when the names were stripped.
During several hours of public comment, county residents spoke up on both sides of the issue.
Beth Ogle, a longtime resident with children in the school system, said restoring the Confederate names is “a statement to the world that you do not value the dignity and respect of your minority students, faculty and staff.”
Kenny Wakeman, a lifelong county resident, said the Stonewall Jackson name “stood proudly for 60 years until 2020,” when he said the “actions of a rogue police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota,” prompted a move to change the name, a reference to the killing of George Floyd that propelled nationwide protests and debate over racial injustice.
Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson was a Confederate general from Virginia who gained fame at the First Battle of Bull Run near Manassas in 1861.
Ashby Lee is named for both Gen. Robert E. Lee, a Virginia native, and for Turner Ashby, a Confederate cavalry officer who was killed in battle in 1862 near Harrisonburg, Va.

------------------------------
As threatened earlier, in my Jingle Hell post, here is another one of my ‘supercut’ compilations - in this case, the splicing together of segments from various interpretations of the Nutcracker Suite.  But I think this one is much more listenable than Jingle Hell, if only because the Nutcracker has several different sections, all of which are much more musically interesting than endless repetitions of “DUH-duh-duh, DUH-duh-duh…” .
I want to particularly call your attention to the segments played by the Classical Jazz Quartet, which consisted of four top-notch jazz musicians: Kenny Barron on piano, Stefon Harris on vibes and marimba, Ron Carter on bass and Lewis Nash on drums.  The arrangements and playing are very much in the style of the Modern Jazz Quartet and the whole album (Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, later reissued as The Classical Jazz Quartet Play Tchaikovsky) is quite lovely.
In addition, you get to hear several other jazz arrangements, plus new-age, acoustic guitar, klezmer, rock and even toy instruments, along with the uniquely irreverent approach by Spike Jones and His City Slickers.
The cover art was repurposed from some corporate promotional disc having nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.

Main articles: List of Sons of Anarchy characters and List of gangs from Sons of Anarchy Opie kills Stahl to avenge the death of his wife, Donna. While Opie, Chibbs, and the Prospects are all en-route following Stahl. Jax, Clay, Bobby, Tigger, and Happy are hauled away to jail. After the club returns from Ireland and brings home Abel, agent Stahl double crosses Jax and tells the club about the side deal Jax made with her, unaware that Jax and the club had it planned all along knowing Stahl would back out of the deal. Upon learning of her grandson's abduction, Gemma suffers a cardiac arrhythmia and collapses in the Teller-Morrow lot. Father Kellan Ashby's sister, Maureen, contacts Gemma at Ashby's request and tells her Abel is safe in Belfast. The return of A.T.F agent Stahl twists the facts about the murder of Donna, Stahl attempts to make a deal with Jax behind the club's back. She returns to Charming to reunite with her grandson, unaware he has been kidnapped. Gemma struggles when she takes Nate to his new assisted living home, and he pleads to be taken back to his house. Gemma has been hiding in Rogue River, Oregon with Tig at the home of Gemma's father, Nate ( Hal Holbrook), who suffers from dementia. SAMCRO is said to resemble the real Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, hence the appearances from David LaBrava (Happy), Chuck Zito (Frankie Diamonds), Rusty Coones (Quinn), and Sonny Barger (Lenny "The Pimp" Janowitz) who are all real Hell's Angels members. As Vice-President and later President of SAMCRO, Jax struggles with the everyday dealings of the club and the legacy of his father, the founder of the club. SAMCRO is involved with gun-running throughout the western United States and deals with many rival gangs and politicians and authorities. Įach season involves two parallel plot lines that intertwine and overlap: the first centers on the personal life of Jackson "Jax" Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and his immediate family while the second deals with SAMCRO ( Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original). In February 2015, he said he would not work on the prequel, likely to be titled "The First 9", before 2017. In November 2013, Sutter indicated he was in talks with FX to make a Sons of Anarchy prequel set in the 1960s.

A Single Man (Christopher Isherwood; Tom Ford)
There’s little point in comparing novel’s and their adaptations I know, I know...
Isherwood’s George is more venal, more lascivious, more crude. The small, dark, ivy-covered hump of a house becomes a mid-century glass marvel. Charley, the slightly past her prime divorcee, is elevated to Julianne Moore in perfect graphic eyeliner doing a Quaaludewoozy twist round and round an impeccably lit living room. Kenny is pushed from charismatic and just-left of handsome to an outrageously angelic Nicholas Hoult in a fuzzy angora jumper. It’s beyond beautiful. Even more than that even. There has never been war in Tom Ford’s universe. A complete vision of a man in the world, in mourning vs. an exquisite perfume ad about death.
Inherent Vice, Thomas Pynchon
Maybe it’s the Gravity’s Rainbow talking but this was a breeze. Best read topless in the sun surrounded by an aromatic haze of suspicious origins. Idk I think Phoenix was too hot for the part.
Being There, Hal Ashby
DON’T YOU FUCKING TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS MOVIE

Somebody please stop Theo Rossi,I can’t take him being right all the time anymore🤣Kim is also amazing,he was super cute talking about Kenny Johnson,I also love he never remembers Margaret name but still loves her,Theo was like Tara and Margaret are way more interesting than Ireland,I mean🥰I laughed so hard when Theo said Maureen was imitating Gemma in front of Gemma🤣I don’t want to project but imo he can’t stand Gemma😍😂she is grabbing her by the neck🤣My favourite part was when they talked Jax killed lots of people, and Kim like he went from doubting to pull the trigger to hey put the gun down, let’s watch some cartoons, they way Kim delivered it🤣My man Theo didn’t dissapoint me with the incest bs,neither did Kim🥰and they called out how weird it was Jax was so cool with it,Kim was like, that’s Kurt Sutter🤣I so agree with them they failed in setting the mood when they found out Tara was kidnapped, they should be more worried🙄I love they are not afraid to say how ridiculous some things were,Theo and the 18 guns shooting but nobody got hurt💅🏼😍🤣
Yes!! Theo continues to nail it and I’m so glad he’s not shy about hit Gemma shade 🥰!! I love the little stories Kim has about Kenny, I absolutely love Kenny! He said he was Kellan Ashby’s son because of the way he threw Jax across the table 🤣. I love how hyped Theo was for the Tara storyline line! He’s like “‘okay so now I’m back in” that was such a great arc for Tara! I can’t wait until he see her badass side! Also the fact that Theo called Margaret “back tattoo” 🤣. I completely agree, it really seems like Theo cant stand her but he’s trying to be nice! I died when Kim said that, his delivery is everything! I love how quickly they blew by the incest arc too, like you can tell they just wanted to get through it! I love Kenny Johnson and Kozik, but I completely agree with them too! Tig and Piney should be the ones showing more concern because they actually know Tara, like Kozik just showed up and they barely met lol. At least Tig kind has his moment in ep 12 when he almost goes after Stahl for fucking up thei Salazar trap. Yes!!! They done care and I’m absolutely living for it 🤣
