Hey, I just book my flights to Ireland for a June vacation! Looking for any recs you might have, must see, must do and most important must eat/drink while there.
We only booked flights so far but we are thinking Shannon-cork-Dublin- Galway. With some day trips from those main cities. Any recs would be welcomed. Thanks
Hi!! I wish I could help but honestly I haven't seen that much of Ireland 🥲 probably the only thing I could recommend is West Cork, it's a lovely area and has some really cool islands and places to hike but you 100% need a car to explore it. I also really like Kinsale, it's a small city near Cork and it has very cute vibes and nice beaches + some amazing fish and chips! Might be my only food recommendation really 😅 Also go to a pub at some point and try Murphy's, much better than Guinness and definitely what locals would get instead. Also as a day trip from Cork, Blarney Castle is a really cool place with gorgeous gardens and the city itself is honestly not that worth it. For Dublin I'd say the castle is pretty cool and do the Kilmainham Gaol tour, and Grafton street is cool to walk on

Ireland & Sweden!
This past weekend was my last weekend trip of the semester! It is crazy that the semester is coming to an end. Monday, May 1st was Labor Day in Europe, so we had a four-day weekend. Emma and I went to Dublin, Ireland, and did a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher on Saturday. On Sunday, we flew to Stockholm, Sweden, and spent one day there. We got back to Florence on Monday evening. This post is long, but it is mostly photos!
This weekend was definitely a whirlwind of travel. On Thursday night, we took a train to Bergamo and then an Uber to the airport, where we slept until we could get our boarding passes from the Ryanair desk. Since we were leaving the EU, we couldn't get mobile boarding passes and therefore couldn't go past security until 4:30 am. Our flight left at 6:30 am, and we arrived in Dublin at 8:30 am.
We planned out an itinerary for the day since we had pre-booked tickets. We started with a quick donut breakfast!
Strawberry cheesecake, cookies and cream, and red velvet from The Rolling Donut!
Next, we dropped our backpacks off at a convenience store that had luggage storage.
Our first stop was Dublin Castle.
The drawing room!
We walked through the small garden and stumbled upon a museum of glass that was free admission!
Lifelike sculpture!
After the museum, we walked to Trinity College Library to see the Book of Kells. he book depicts the four gospels and illustrations with beautiful details that are visible even after so many centuries. No photography is allowed of the Book of Kells.
This is called the Long Room! It reminds me of Hogwarts.
For lunch, Emma and I went to Nando's.
Chicken sandwich with chips, as they say in the UK.
Our next destination was Saint Patrick's Cathedral.
It is the largest cathedral in Ireland.
The church had beautiful stained glass, and I learned a lot about the history of Ireland.
After visiting the cathedral, we walked to the Guinness Storefront.
The storefront is massive, with multiple floors, and each level explains a different stage of Guinness beer production.
We got to do a tasting of the beer, which was my first time trying it!
A free drink was included in the tour, so Emma and I got ciders!
It was around 3 pm when we finished at the storefront, and I started to feel exhaustion kick in. But we powered through and walked to Kilmainham Gaol for the last tour of the day.
The jail opened in 1796 and closed in 1924.
This was probably my favorite tour of the day, and we learned a lot about Irish history because the jail was home to many Irish revolutionaries.
For dinner, we went to Celtic Nights. It was a dinner and show restaurant where we heard Irish folk music and saw Irish dance! It was so lively, and I was very entertained!
I had a traditional meal of braised Irish beef and potato soup.
To end the evening, Emma and I got pints of cider in the Temple Bar area. There were so many pubs and people everywhere, a very lively area.
This is the most famous pub in Dublin!
We went to the Airbnb for an early night because we had another early morning the next day.
On Saturday, we had a tour of the Cliffs of Moher and Galway with the company Wild Rover.
The Cliffs of Moher!
In Galway, we got lunch and ice cream first.
Grilled cheese with cheese, goat cheese, shredded chicken, and red pepper relish! With a side of pesto mayo, so delicious!
We also went to O'Connell's bar, where Ed Sheeran filmed the music video for his song Galway Girl and had a pint.
The main street in Galway!
Moving on to our day in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday. We got there in the morning and went to get breakfast!
Walnut pastry from Fabrique Stenugnsbageri! So yummy!!
Then we went to the Vasa Museum to see a viking ship!
It was so cool to see! Unfortunately, the ship sank after 20 minutes of its maiden voyage.
We also visited the Abba Museum!
We saw the clothes they performed in and learned about how the band got together and became so successful!
Towards the end of the day we went to old town and got dinner there.
Stockholm is so pretty in the spring!
The long weekend was very fun and packed with lots of activities. We really ended the semester with a bang! I have to say that I am glad I don't have to get on a train, bus, or plane next weekend. Instead I will be soaking up the last of Florence and studying for my final exams.

while people are sharing ghost experiences: I’ve never *seen* a ghost, but I have sensed some shit
I was visiting George Washington’s plantation at Mount Vernon in Virginia. George Washington (like most of the United States’ founding fathers) owned enslaved people, and I swear there was weird energy in the slave quarters and in the gardens where the people worked. It felt almost angry, for lack of a better word. Made me tense.
I also was once in Ireland visiting a prison called Kilmainham Gaol. When the Irish were rebelling against the English (once again, as they attempted a lot of rebellions) in the 1910s, a bunch of the leaders of the rising were executed in the courtyard of this prison. Very weird energy there too, like someone was watching, or like someone was there. Also my apologies if you already knew some of this history, no idea where you’re from so none of this might be new to you lol
One final one: there is an island in Southeast Alaska called Pennock Island. On that island is this massive graveyard. Most of the graves are the graves of indigenous people, but some are white settlers as well. Most of the graves are also hidden behind dirt, layers of moss, or tree trunks, as Southeast Alaska is a rather harsh rainforest environment that quickly overtakes manmade things if not maintained. Most of the graves are from the 1800s/early 1900s. I swear it felt like there were eyes on me. You could just feel these invisible presences all around, as if someone was there. At times it felt unnerving, but at other times, it felt comforting. Like these people, stuck on this island for so long with hardly anyone around, were just lonely. Anyway, I have some pictures from Pennock Island if you’re at all interested. It’s a unique spot for sure :)
Omg-
Wiat bc this was me- like I loved that place but- there was definitely something off. And it just felt unhappy and like- I didn’t like it.
Also that’s so cool- like- scary but knowing the history and the things that happened there- wow. The feeling of being watched is scary to me yet I find it fascinating in some ways
That’s so sad. I hate knowing that people were lonely and/or in pain when they died. It’s heartbreaking. And the fact that it felt comforting to you is so- nice in ways. Because you know they just like the company.
Also yes please!

Hi Nancy, for that anon looking to visit Ireland, if they’ve never been Dublin is the capital so worth a visit. Kilmainham gaol is a must as is the Guinness museum. Galway city is also beautiful and the west coast of Ireland Killarney in particular is just gorgeous. If they make it to Ireland heading up North is a must, times have changed and it’s actually a hidden gem now and if your a GOT fan it’s where most was filmed and you can visit certain locations.
For the Anon looking to travel in Europe, these were the other suggestions that came in for your ask
