do you think you could do a gxg korra x reader? something angsty with fluff at the end would be cool but take as much creative freedom as you want :)
Hey anon! Here’s what you asked. I did my best to make it angsty and while I’m not sure if I succeeded, I hope you enjoy it anyways. Now, go get your avatar!
———————————————————————————–
Korra x F! Reader “Home is Where the Heart is”
There was a time where you wouldn’t have had a care in the world.
But that time had ended.
After the fight with Zaheer you had been scared out of your wits for Korra. Your pulse still jumped remembering seeing her body limp on the ground. You had rushed over to her side, hands shaking as you gripped her arm. Her eyes were blank white in the avatar state and you bit the inside of your cheek. “Korra, Korra wake up. It’s me, (Y/N)…” You tried to force out a smile but it failed. “Please, you’ve got to come back. You can’t leave me, leave us. This can’t be it…” Choking on your words, you felt salty tears drip from your eyes onto her arm.
You watched in hope as her hand drifted upwards, but then it fell to her side and her eyes closed. Everything seemed to go into slow motion, barely hearing Zaheer’s mocking words, every part of you was focused on Korra. This couldn’t be real. It was a dream, one terrible nightmare that you’d wake up from and then see your beautiful girlfriend smiling at you in bed. The only thing bringing you out of your trance was Jinora pulling you away and you struggled immediately. “Calm down, (Y/N)! I’m just trying to give Suyin room so she can get the poison out,” She told you.
You nodded and your eyes focused back on Korra and Suyin. Watching Suyin work was nerve-wracking and you clenched your fist so hard you thought you would break skin. Eventually, the mercury came pouring of her and your body immediately relaxed as Korra came back to life. Her eyes opened, no longer in the avatar state and you smiled as her father hugged her.
But your smile quickly disappeared at the sound of Zaheer’s voice. You marched over and gave him a swift punch to the face. “That, was for almost killing my girlfriend, you monster.” You snarled out and right after, Bolin shoved a sock in his mouth.
“Don’t worry, (Y/N) I gotcha covered. He can officially put a sock in it.” He snickered, the bad pun at the very least tempering your anger.
Everyone else had moved on to helping Korra at that point and you were quick to join in. You all managed to get her to the air temple where you then placed her in a wheelchair. While she wasn’t in the best shape, it didn’t matter, you were happy she was even alive.
Or so you thought.
While you were still thanking every spirit in existence that she had survived, it was different. Korra was different. The shining glow in her blue eyes had turned dull and she was barely responsive to even you. You figured it was only fair, she had a tough brush with death after all. Of course she wasn’t responsive, and it was something you would never hold against her. But it didn’t mean it didn’t still hurt seeing her like this. More than anything you wanted to be able to take away the pain she was still feeling. But alas, that was something you couldn’t do and you had to settle with only comforting her.
Two weeks had gone by and you were getting Korra ready for Jinora’s ceremony. You smiled down at your handiwork and held up a mirror to show her. “What do you think?” You asked, watching her reaction closely.
She stared at her reflection and it looked like her face became more grim than before. “It’s great,” She said simply. You frowned slightly as you set the mirror back down. It looked like she was in her own head again, you could practically feel the negativity radiating off of her.
You crouched down beside her wheelchair and held her hand. “You don’t have to feel guilty about not getting better, you know that right? What you went through was a lot, and you’re still human. You need time to heal just like any other, you’ll bounce back,” You reassured her gently. No response. You sighed, squeezing her hand. “I love you Korra, I’m here for you and so is everyone else. For now let’s just try to enjoy today, for Jinora if nothing else.”
This seemed to snap her out of her trance and she looked at you with an affirmative stare. “You’re right, let’s go.” You nodded at her words and as you got up, Korra held onto your hand. Looking down, you saw a ghost of a smile playing on her lips. “Thank you (Y/N), for everything that you’re doing. I couldn’t have a better girlfriend.” There was a warm tone to her voice and it made your heart skip a beat.
“Thank you, but I’m just doing what anyone else would do. Now come on, we can’t keep everyone waiting.” You replied, feeling a lot more chipper than before. You kissed her forehead lightly before rolling her out of the room to meet everyone else.
You stood by as everyone encouraged her and the president welcomed her back to Republic City. But she gave nothing in response and you quickly pitched in to save the situation. “We should go inside,” You commented. Meelo and Ikki joined the two of you and you smiled at the siblings chatter as you were all pushed up the stairs by Lin.
The ceremony was wonderful and you felt yourself bursting with pride and joy at Tenzin’s announcement and seeing Jinora in all of her tattoos. It was a great time all around.
But, all good things must come to an end.
A short while after the ceremony, Korra and her family had made plans to take her back to the South Pole in order to heal. It was a plan you fully supported, knowing how much this would really help her. You just wished you could come with her.
“Are you sure you don’t want some company in the southern water tribe? I’m more than willing to come,” You offered. This was the big day and everyone was at the docks to send your girlfriend off, it could be your last chance to come with her.
Korra hesitated for a moment before shaking her head. “No, I appreciate it but I’ll only be gone for a couple of weeks. A little time alone will be good for me.” She told you and you nodded. You couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment.
Tenzin put his hand on Korra’s shoulder. “Now, I don’t want you to worry about a thing while you’re gone. Your recovery should be your main concern. Jinora, the airbenders and I, have everything under control.” He ended firmly before removing his hand.
Asami nodded along to his words. “We all can’t wait to see you better,” She smiled gently. The ship blew its horn, signaling it would take off soon and you grabbed onto Korra’s wheelchair.
You helped her onto the ship and just before you left, you kissed her gently. “I love you Korra.” You hummed, running your hand along her cheek.
She pressed into your hand with a small smile up at you. You swore your heart touched the moon every time she smiled at you like that. “I love you too, (Y/N). Don’t worry too much, I’ll be back before you know it,” She assured you.
Grinning, you stood back up again. “You had better, or I’ll be holding you accountable for a stroll around the city on Naga,” You mused. Korra smiled a little brighter at that.
“I’ll take that bet,” She conceded just as the ship blew it’s horn again. The atmosphere dampened. “You better go,” You nodded at the suggestion and turned away.
You sighed as you walked back down to the docks and waved goodbye with everyone else. When  Korra was out of sight, you dropped your arm. You felt as if your heart just sank to the bottom of the ocean. Then, someone squeezed your shoulder. Turning your head, you saw that it was Asami. “We’ll all miss her, but you know she’ll come running right back once she’s healed.” She tried to comfort you, which lifted your spirits somewhat.
“You’re right, it doesn’t mean it won’t suck waiting though,” You chuckled. Suddenly, the two of you and Mako were getting dragged by Bolin.
“Then let’s make it as best as we can! Come on, there’s this great place I’ve found recently, you’re all gonna love it…” Bolin continued on and you couldn’t help but laugh. This was a good start for waiting.
Soon, the three of your friends began to separate. Bolin had left to be of service to Kuvira and the Earth Kingdom, Mako had been cracking down on cases and then assigned as a bodyguard to Prince Wu, and Asami was making advancements with her company. As for you, you had decided to stick with Asami, serving as a guard over her company with your firebending. You had also been sending letters to Korra, writing about what was happening with you and hoping that she was making a lot of progress. You never received anything back, and a part of you worried if she was even getting them, until one day there was a letter from her in the mail.
Immediately, you grabbed it and rushed back into your home, reading it eagerly. Its contents consisted of how difficult it was to get better and how Katara was saying it was all in her head. She had been trying to meditate but she had doubts on her recovery, which made you frown. You may not know exactly what she was going through, but you had firm belief that she would heal and wrote back to her with that thought in mind. You also wrote that you would keep it a secret that you were the only one to get a letter and that you loved her. There were no more letters after that.
Then came the news of Tonraq coming to Republic city and excitement rushed through you. If Tonraq was coming, that must have meant Korra was with him and ready to come back! You were the first one at the dock, almost vibrating with happiness when you saw the waterbending man come off the ship with Naga. But after waiting, Korra didn’t show up.
You rushed out to him without a second thought. “Tonraq, where’s Korra?” You asked, trying to peer through the boat. Maybe she was going for a big entrance or something.
However you got the feeling that wasn’t the case when he gave you a confused look. “What do you mean? She said she was in Republic City.” He stated and you froze instantly.
“She’s not here, Tonraq.”
“That can’t be, she’s written me letters about her stay here.”
“I can promise you she’s not here. I would’ve known, I patrol the city everyday.”
“Then where is she?”
You took a pause at the question. Fear was drowning in you and you looked up to meet his gaze. “I don’t know, but I’m gonna find her.”
The next few days were spent preparing to travel, you had already asked Asami to relieve you of your duties, now it was just a matter of boarding a boat. While you searched by water, Tenzin had sent his kids out to search by air. You both planned to start with the Earth Kingdom, it was the place where the most trouble had been occurring after all and if you knew Korra, she would head straight to it.
It had taken some time but eventually you made it. By then you started looking everywhere for her. But anywhere you looked, people said they hadn’t seen her. You were about to give up when the last person you questioned had a different answer. “Well I’ve seen someone like that. But she had shorter hair though, and different clothes. But beyond that, she fits pretty well.”
You perked up immediately. “When was that? Did you see where she went?” You questioned her eagerly, but fell short when you saw how surprised the lady was. Doing your best to dial down your emotions, you apologized. “She’s my girlfriend and I’m just really worried about her, you know? I haven’t seen her in so long and I’m worried something’s happened to her…” You trailed off, looking at the ground. While you had tried your hardest to have a positive outlook, a part of you was scared. She could have been kidnapped or taken prisoner or even killed and you wouldn’t have even known it. And with every day of searching and having no luck, that part of your mind was growing bigger.
The woman’s face softened at your dismay. “I saw her around three nights ago. She was heading out of the city and in the direction of a swamp following a dog.” She told you and you made sure to memorize the information. “She’s very lucky to have such a determined and caring young lady as her girlfriend. I wish you luck,” She said and you smiled.
“Thank you so much. Have a good rest of your day!” You beamed, waving goodbye before heading out of the city and into the swamp.
Upon doing so, you immediately regretted your decision. The sun was already setting and it was harder to see where you were going. You had also run into an embarrassing amount of vines and trees while navigating through the swamp. After another two hours of stumbling around, aimlessly calling out Korra’s name, you decided to try to find a dry place and sleep for the night.
The next morning consisted of doing the same thing. You ate breakfast and then fought your way through the vines once again. At one point you heard screaming, but by the time you made it over to where it had come from, no one was there. You sighed, this was getting you nowhere and you were running out of food. You were unsure if you would even make it to find her.
Eventually, you ended up at a hill and from what you could see was a gigantic tree with roots spreading down and out in all directions. This must be the center of the swamp. After gauging it, you figured this would be the best vantage point to see if you could find Korra and thus began your climb. When you reached the top of the roots, you started calling out Korra’s name again. You were making your way all around the tree until you heard a very familiar voice. “Let me try again, I want to see if I can find (Y/N) too…” Your ears perked and before you knew what you were doing, you were sprinting towards it as fast as possible.
Then you saw her.
Korra was here.
You screamed her name as loud as you could as you dashed to her side. She must have heard you because she turned around and instantly ran to meet you. You launched yourself into her arms and squeezed in her in a tight hug, laughing as she spun you around. Tears sprang into your eyes as you smiled at her. It felt as if you had finally found home again. “Curse you and all your stubbornness, do you know how hard it is to find you?” You bubbled, burying your face into her shoulder.
She laughed as she patted your back. “How hard,” She mused, earning her an even tighter hug.
“As hard as I’m hugging you.”
“Oh, well that’s hard,” She laughed with tears in her eyes. You huffed in response and pulled back to meet her gaze. But when you saw her face, the playful retort you had ready died on your tongue. The light in her eyes was back, she was smiling. You hadn’t seen her this happy in so long.
Gently, you cupped her cheek. “You’re back. I knew you could do it I just knew it.” Before she could respond, your lips landed on hers and you kissed her passionately. You felt her hands travelling up into your hair and you hung onto her neck like it was your lifeline. A sense of belonging and peace overwhelmed your entire body and you knew you never wanted it to stop.
However, you were interrupted by an old woman you hadn’t noticed before pushing you apart. “Alright, alright break it up! You’re going to ruin the kids’ eyes if you keep this up.” She croaked and your entire body began to heat up in embarrassment.
But the mention of kids had you confused. What kids, you were the only ones-
Immediately Korra was bombarded with Jinora, Ikki and Meelo, surprising both of you. “We missed you so much, Korra!” Ikki exclaimed and Korra grinned down at her.
“I missed you too… How did you find me out here?” She asked, releasing them all from their hug.
Ikki was the first to speak. “Jinora sensed your energy,” She explained and her sister gave her a warm look.
“But we never would have been here if it weren’t for Ikki.”
“Well I would have never stormed off and found those soldiers if it weren’t for Meelo.”
“I was trying to toughen up these ladies, but I guess it was a team effort.” Meelo finished and you couldn’t help but chuckle.
“But more importantly, how did (Y/N) find you before we did? We came as fast as we could!” Ikki commented, making you rub the back of your neck.
“Well, I found a woman who said someone who looked like Korra went in the direction of the swamp and on a hunch, I followed through with it.” The three nodded at your explanation and were about to chatter some more when the old lady had coughed.
Korra turned them around and introduced them to who you soon found out was Toph and your eyes just about bulged out of your skull. This whole time Toph Beifong was here in this swamp? More importantly, you had a kissing session with the avatar right in front of her? You could already see all the nights you would lay awake thinking about this mortifying moment.
You were brought out of it when you heard Jinora talking about Kuvira. “I don’t know, I’m not the avatar I used to be. I can’t even go into the avatar state…” Korra trailed off and you put a hand on her shoulder to comfort her.
“Please, Korra. The world needs you back.” Jinora stated. Korra remained silent and you all travelled back to what you assumed was Toph’s cave.
She was standing, facing to the fire before turning to you all. “Alright, I’m ready.”
Toph snorted at the response. “Then do it, I’m not bending it out of you. You have to do it on your own.” The response left your girlfriend disgruntled but she accepted it. Slowly, she began to move through the metalbending process as Toph talked her through it. You watched in anticipation as bit by bit, the poison was coming off her body and you let out a breath when Toph trapped the poison in a rock. It was done, Korra could finally begin to fully heal.
You let out a small giggle when she hugged the old woman. For as grumpy as she acted, she could be really sweet when she wanted to.
Then, off you went.
You put what was left of your travel supplies on Pepper’s back and the five of you rode off, waving goodbye to Toph as you went.
When you were officially in the sky, you leaned against Korra, feeling her head rest on top of yours. Yawning, you closed your eyes and snuggled into her side, drifting off to sleep.
It was good to be home.

What are the important bisexual characters that you said helped you? I am having a hard time finding good bi representation in which they aren’t considered promiscuous or unstable
Hiya anon ! What a quality question, thank you ! Here’s another mini essay about bi rep lmao.  If there are some that I forgot please tell me ! And to everyone, tell me about the bi characters who made an impact on your life, I’d love to know !!!!
Okay so.
-  When I answered the anon and talked about the characters that helped me come to terms with my sexuality, I talked about two in particular. Jack Harkness from Torchwood is depicted as very promiscuous, and somewhat instable. He still meant a lot to me because a) him sleeping around was never that much of a problem, it was because he was from the future, where things were different, which I thought was refreshing and b) his instability was because of the weight of being an immortal hero. Also fanon!Dean Winchester from SPN, as an older, more macho, emotionally witholding, badass dude written as bi meant a lot to me, but he doesn’t really avoid that stereotype either. But at least they were heroes.  However, I can understand wanting bi characters that actually don’t fit that stereotype, because bi people irl aren’t all like that, even if there is nothing wrong per se about sleeping with a lot of different people, or having mental issues to struggle with. And that was a while ago and now we have more and more cool characters ! Such as :
- Rosa Diaz from Brooklyn Nine-Nine. One of the best portrayals of bisexuality on TV imho. She didn’t start out as bi, she was this tough, cool, scary but with a heart of gold cop who had a lot of other plotlines before. But then, since they saw that a lot of wlw got this vibe from her, were really into her, and the actress came out as bi herself, they decided to use this. So it was super organic, and the way they introduced the subject was true to Rosa herself ; she’s a super private person, she doesn’t like anybody knowing about her life (it’s actually a running joke and Rosa Diaz has been implied to not even be her real name). But then she is dating a woman, and struggles with her parents not understanding and her coworkers find out, help her and support her. Her gay captain is there for her in his typical stoic but hilarious way. They organize game night with her when her parents won’t anymore. We see her crushing on women and dating, but it is treated exactly as the other character’s love life, they never make a big deal out of it. She isn’t the token queer character. She says outright she is bisexual and there is a specific point about her mom not understanding it’s not a phase and thinking she’ll end up with a man anyway, which #relatable. The focus is on the team as found family. Also right now she’s dating a butch woman, which is awesome since they are so underrepresented on TV and I hope we see more of her. That show really is my comfort show, it’s still bloodly hilarious and it really transcends the format to say some really deep woke stuff too, but never in a way that feels on the nose. Everyone should watch it tbh.
- Korrasami ! Oh my god, I was so blown away when they got together. They’re two characters from the animated series Legend of Korra, they start out as rivals in love who have feelings for the same guy, but as they have to fight baddies together, they become bestest of friends, and both fall out of love with the guy. Then in season 3 and 4, their relationship becomes central to the show, as Asami stands by Korra through some really tough shit. Also, they’re both ultra badass and fight really well together. A lot of fans started reading their chemistry as romantic, but we’d never thought they’d actually go there. But the show ends with them walking into the ‘sunset’ (well, the spirit lands) together, holding hands. Now, it was never completely explicit on the show BUT they were dealing with a lot of censure from the networks and you have to be willingly obtuse not to read it as romantic. And after that the creators drew them on dates, and there is a comic series in which they are shown kissing, talking about their feelings, introducing each other to their families, etc. It made me feel so validated when it happened, and I just adore the whole ‘love triangle ditches the middle one and fall in gay love with each other’ trope. (is it a trope yet ? it should be.) It’s still a kids show at its core, but it has amazing depth and deals with some very deep shit. Korra starts off as a bit annoying but she has a really cool development, she’s a girl character we need more of - brave, dynamic but also brash and reckless and action driven in ways that are almost always exclusively shown for boys. And Asami is a more typical girly girl but she’s also a brilliant engineer and has a spine of steel and she’s also very slyly funny. They’re amazing. And the comics are super cute.
- Now there are a lot of characters who are bi/pan that I love, and are good characters in themselves, but their arcs do intersect in some ways with promiscuity and mental instability. I’m thinking about Even from Skam and all his remake variants, Magnus Bane from Shadowhunters, several characters from Black Sails, Sarah Lance and Constantine from Legends of Tomorrow, Eleanor Shellstrop from the Good Place, Bo from Lost Girl, Ilana from Broad City, Joe McMillan from Halt and Catch Fire, God/Chuck from Supernatural (lmaooooo), several characters on Penny Dreadful, or in a totally different category, Vilanelle from Killing Eve or Hannibal from the series (who are hella bad guys but it’s never linked to their sexuality, and are also incredibly compelling to watch.)
And even though these characters taken individually, I would argue, are good rep because they’re complex and layered and interesting and never one-dimensional (and watching them feels incredibly empowering at times)....it’s still a trend. I feel like when writing a character that is attracted to multiple genders, there is always this sort of...tangle of tropes that writers default to, unconsciously. Some negative and some positive. It used to be this trope of bis being villainous, instable, jealous, flaky, immature, perverted, manipulative, cheaters, amoral, greey, etc...and then it evolved into something of a reclaiming and subverting this trope. So now you feel like the Bi Character kind of has to be badass, glamorous, seductive, often superpowered or extraordinary in other ways.. And they also for multiple reasons (they’re immortal, they’re sensitive artist souls, they’re from the future, they’re psycho, they’re exccentric comic relief, they’re daring adventurers and pioneers) don’t care about social norms which allows them to sleep and fall in love with whomever. And so they tend to have those super busy romantic/sexual histories and very troubled backstories. In the past it was a bad thing, now it’s often presented as this positive, enlightened or at least fun and badass thing. They’re heroic, with big hearts, a tremendous lust for life and a cool rebellious attitude. They’re complex, dramatic, tortured. Which can be super cool, too.
But it would be nice to have more ‘normal’ bi characters. I mean, boring bisexuals need to see themselves represented too ! Our sexualities don’t give us super powers. At the same time, it is true that bisexual ppl have higher rates of mental illness, which deserves to be explored, but it would be nice if it was actually articulated and not just part of this trope.  But still. We need rep, I think, that is more grounded and varied. So I think that’s also why I read a lot of fanfic. (I was really into the idea of bi Steve Rogers for a long time, partly also because he’s both very mentally resilient, kinda boring in a good way, and very unexperienced in terms of sex/romance, which is pretty much the opposite of the trope)
- I think books, and YA in general, are a good place to find these ‘normal bis’ characters. I’m thinking in particular of Leah from Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (from the same book series that gave us the ‘Love, Simon’ movie) which is a super sweet coming of age/romance story about a super normal teenager who just happens to be also into girls (esp her best friend) and is loud and funny and very lovable and has zero doubts about being bi. You also have Adam Parrish from the Raven Cycle, another one of my forever faves ; he has an abusive family so PTSD from that but it never feels tropey, and it’s completely detached from his sexuality. He has magic powers, too. But his character feels completely opposite to the trope. He’s hardworking, somewhat withholding, prickly (and sometimes awkward), ambitious, determined, down to earth, and has a beautiful love story with another boy. And also Jane, from Jane Unlimited by Kristin Cashore, also really cool ; she’s a nerdy, smart girl who is actually inspired by Jane Eyre who has cool adventures in a weird house where we can follow her on different paths depending on the choices she makes, several of which are love stories. And finally the main character from The Seven Husbands from Evelyn Hugo, kinda fits the trope yeahhh since she’s a super glam actress who well, has seven husbands but it’s a pretty clever deconstruction since it turns out (slight spoilers) that Evelyn is actually through most of her life faithful in heart to the same person and the rest is mostly out of necessity, and her story feels very real and raw and down to earth.
- I don’t go there yet but I really want to check out Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Schitt’s Creek which I have read have very good bi rep. And I want to catch up on Orphan Black (Cosima and Delphine both don’t have exact labels but they’re multi-gender attracted and they’re this cool couple of scientists in a relationship that gets a happy ending). I will never forgive what they did to Lexa so I stopped watching but I do think that Clarke Griffin from The 100 is very good bi rep. Alexia from Skam France, meanwhile, is a bit of a boundary case for me because, even though she’s presented as the ‘weird one’ from the group, very colorful and liberated and exccentric, she’s still a very normal teen who’s happy and comfortable in her own skin, which is awesome.
- Disclaimer, I included characters in here that are also pan/omnisexual or don’t have a label but are attracted to several genders, for the purpose of this discussion i don’t think the difference is all that relevant at least to me (i mostly identify as bi for the sake of simplicity but tbh i could also fit under pan so i feel represented by all those characters). But I understand the importance of characters that state their identities more clearly and with pride.
- So in conclusion : there is nothing wrong with having a sexually active life or struggling mentally (even tho that one is not fun). And I do love all my badass casanova time travelling super powered bis.
But we need more bi characters that don’t fit that trope. We need bi characters in children’s shows, or that don’t have more than one relationship, or that don’t have a relationship at all, to break the tendency to always show bisexual ppl as overly sexual. We need bi characters in committed relationships to break this idea that bi characters are bound to cheat or can’t be satisified with only one person. We need bi characters that are mentally stable and successful and happy, to show that it’s possible. We need bi characters that are boring, bookish, nerdy, ordinary, clumsy, not particularly seductive, socially awkward, rule-sticklers, etc...to show that bi people are not all party animals, or doing it for attention, or to be wild, rebellious and socially progressive. It’s just a sexuality, it doesn’t say anything about your personality. Even though there are some correlations with MI or being bi might bring you in contact with more progressive ideas and to see life a bit differently, there is nothing automatic about it.
- In conclusion, reading testimonies from real people also helped me a lot. It’s a very dated but I got the book “ Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out “ when I was struggling with my own sexuality and it helped a lot, to read that even back then (1991) you had all sorts of regular ppl claiming to be bi and that it was not a phase or a fad or whatever.
