I am intrigued by the Power of Love gala honoring Blake. They announced performers (with more to come?) Kristin Chenoweth, Colbie Caillat, Gary LeVox, Cassadee Pope, Jay Allen, Mickey Guyton and Andy Grammer. This is a banquet thing that he was letting people know the All for the Hall was not. I think this could be real special. Is he gearing up for a Vegas residency? Does he know Mickey or Andy personally?

I have discovered that YA books in English featuring Austria consist of only 3 categories:

And then there’s the actual content of their conversation. And by that I mean the Clara-related stuff. Wilbur probably doesn’t realise it, but he’s painting a very clear picture with the questions he asks and answers he gives. And it’s not a pretty one.

It’s starts with the very obvious idea that he has to serve his Goddess. It’s that lack of agency again. And if you combine that with the ‘has Kristen every asked you to do something that would hurt you?’ question from last chapter which Techno definitely knows about, it becomes very clear that he needs to be freed of that mentality.

Techno tries to play it off with humour and points out that there’s no punishment for not listening (except for the mental punishments Wilbur gives himself). When that doesn’t work he goes for the difference between what Kristin does. (and I’m loving the guiding hand imagery combined with the hand in Wilbur’s hair last chapter).

Wilbur then bring up that it’s supposed to create a better path, and Techno rightfully asks for whom. This triggers a little politics rant, which makes some fair points. Why would Clara only care about the one country? Feels to me like the Pythia got yoinked. More reasons to be suspicious indeed. His changing the future comment also makes me feel like maybe Wilbur can’t change anything at all. The future is already set in stone and he only gets these visions to kickstart events that make sure they happen. Though that’s probably not it.

And then Techno goes to point out Wilbur’s agency, which leads to another gem I missed: [“You don’t though (about Aiobur saying he wants to serve his goddess),” Techno said, his voice strangely flat. “If you did, you would’ve left already.”] This is sailing into territory Wilbur isn’t ready to accept yet, so now we get him pushing back and starting to cut Techno off.

And as Techno says, Wilbur is very clearly trying to convince himself that he’s still serving her. But it’s painting a sad picture. [I’ve dedicated my entire being to Her.] especially, though that ties into the Quackkty conversation, so I’ll circle back to this.

yeahhhh the questions wilbur asks definitely says something about his mental state even if he doesn't fully realize it. techno notices though, and he's not thrilled with the picture it all makes

and then you have techno trying out different tactics, trying to figure out how to get through to wilbur. but wilbur is stubborn, so obviously that's not easy at all. but he's not wrong. there technically isn't a real punishment for going against clara. sure people might attribute bad luck to going against her, but she doesn't smite anyone. wilbur's punishments are all to himself

one thing I will say about the pythia is that the position to me is kind of similar to the pope. obviously, the pope lives in vatican city, and while vatican city is technically its own country before it existed the pope was pretty much always based in rome. while catholicism was not only limited to rome, the pope was based there. now of course the pope did not receive visions of the future about if rome was going to be threatened with war (or maybe he did at some point in history idk i'm not catholic), so that's where the pythia gets weird. the fact that the pythia is supposed to change the future in the favor of their country, despite the fact that clara is worshipped by many people outside that country. hmm.

yeahhh once we hit territory wilbur isn't ready to accept yet, it's time to back off. he's got his limits at this point

Hi, I'm a huge fan of your Zutara fics. I am especially a fan of Fate Deferred and It Must Follow, As Night the Day. I'm wondering what inspired these stories? Any outside sources like books or movies?

Fate Deferred takes a lot of structural inspiration from Star Wars and Once Upon a Time. Star Wars in the sense that it's sort of a trilogy and a prequel trilogy rolled into one, and OUAT with the intercut past and present storylines. Thematically I drew on lots of different sources for various characters and subplots. Toph's marriage and the Penkou City chapters draw on The Scarlet Pimpernel, Kanna's backstory owes a lot to Kristin Lavransdatter, and Ukon the fire sage was partly inspired by the title character of The Young Pope.

It Must Follow is less consciously inspired by anything in particular.
