the one thing I'll always love about mormon masculinity is that we will not be having any of that "haha I hate my wife" shit. the male general authorities set the example every single conference of saying "I love my wife, she's the best person I know, I'm the most lucky man who ever lived, every time we disagree I'm usually wrong because she's wiser and I've learned so much from her," etc. oaks was like "I'm releasing these men. give them and their wives a vote of thanks." the message to every man is to celebrate and appreciate the women he knows, not put them down.

Pres Eyring mentioned our relationship with God being a friendship
That made me think of something. I have several pagan friends, and they say that their relationship with their gods are like that: a reciprocal relationship, bonded by love & common values
This didn't make sense to me, until it suddenly did. That's because it was essentially my relationship with God in my more spiritual moments
It was like Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof." I would pray, but not in the traditional way, but just talking, like he was there. And I wasn't afraid to complain. But, I'd also feel the Spirit call me out. Not with malice, but in a sorta teasing way (not exactly the right word, but close enough). I wasn't hurt by it, I just knew that he knew I was just human, and could take a joke about my (many many) faults
And likewise, as I learned about God's Nature, I started thinking about my Baptismal Covenant, namely "to act as a witness of Christ in all times, in all things, and in all places." I interpret this as witnessing not of Christ alone, but also testifying of his nature, by imitating it as best I can (which means I became way more loving than I even knew was possible)
As we built that relationship, I became more like him, and he became closer to me
So yeah, I liked when he said it was a friendship

That's a bold start from elder Anderson. He's just reinforcing what I already thought about people who want the pregnant person to give birth at all costs. They don't care about the quality of life, how many medical bills those parents will have to pay. All i heard was "Do what God wants" and "sacrifice your wants and needs so this baby can be born" but then gave solutions for AFTER pregnancy. All I keep hearing is "don't trust yourself, your intuition or your body" if you pray and end up wanting or needing an abortion. Let your body change for 9 long months and hurt and be uncomfortable. Especially since abortion isn't considered murder, it should be up to the pregnant person and their doctor. The fact that God "allows" for it and leaders regurgitate it's only allowed in certain cases doesn't help and isn't very "we love women" of them. I'm ashamed that the men of the church are still counseling members about this and aren't saying to sincerely listen to their own hearts and body and needs. It's so hard to want to start a family when I'm told to disregard my feelings when it's MY body that could get pregnant. Then if you do get an abortion there's the stigma shame and guilt that comes with it, even if you were instructed to do it.

You know what I loved this conference?
The overarching messages of love.
It gives me hope- that not everyone is happy about the handbook changes, and they want us to know that we are welcomed, and we are loved, and our Heavenly Parents want us to know that.

I hope everyone is safe after today. I hope someone got a smile or simply had their feelings acknowledged. I know I did. I love seeing the same blogs pop up 2x a year and I love seeing new blogs too!
I love seeing my notifications going off during conference because I know there are people out there who just get it. It always felt like I was the only one when I was leaving and I don’t want anyone to think they’re alone in this!
Today was hard for so many, get some well deserved rest

I'll admit, I've had difficulties relating to female speakers in the past in general conference (probably just plain old misogyny, tbh), so when Sister Runia got up looking more Provo than I've ever seen, I was not ready for her to drop highly personalized and targeted truth bombs on my soul today. She brought tears to my eyes multiple times. So what I guess I'm saying is that, once again, I have fallen victim to unrighteous judgement and I am so happy to have been called to repentance with such love. Sister Runia's talk is probably going to be one of my favorites to quote for years to come.

oh this is so beautiful. "some people feel happiest without religion, and I respect these feelings. God has filled this earth with delightful things so that all his children may have as much happiness as possible. BUT there could be something more by following Jesus Christ. try it out" it's so lovely and respectful I love him

“All of us, whether we are the first generation in the gospel or the fifth, should ask ourselves ‘What stories of faith, strength, and celestial commitment will I pass on to the next generation?’”

That's several times this session we've been told to dedicate time to studying the Gospel (and specifically in Cook's one, the Atonement)
I'm a Sunday School Teacher, and even I'm not as consistent with CFM as I should be. And if my Hot Takes are evidence of anything, it's that I understand Mormonism pretty well
But, I can sometimes take it for granted. Joseph said to seek out the mysteries, but we should also remain grounded in the Basic Principles. And yeah, sometimes I go too deep in the mysteries, and forget the principles
But I like that Cook mentioned the Atonement. The Atonement is the most central, most basic, and yet the deepest doctrine of Mormonism. When I was learning from the missionaries, it was the "Gospel of Jesus Christ" lesson that had me converted. The Atonement in there is just "God will forgive you, if you try to change." That is true, but one can also go into Grace, the Purpose of Life, the Nature of God, and even the Resurrection from that
BTW, the Basic Principles, as I understand them are the 4th Article of Faith. If you have a different perspective, I'd love to hear it
Faith- Faith is the Moving Action. Anything that we do is done in Faith, from prayer to planting. But this Faith is acting with a knowledge of God's Nature & his Plan
Repentance- The Atonement
Baptism/Holy Ghost- Covenants bind us to God, help us learn his nature, and gives God a way to act in the world (he can't exactly come down and fix all our problems, because that would violate Agency. So, we covenant to act as he would, and he receive blessings, because the nature of our beings is becoming more like God)
Endure to the End- Grow in Faith, Repent as often as necessary, renew Covenants & make higher ones
