hear me out... noya gets dommed by his partner who is SOMEHOW shorter than him. (bonus points if he booked them a love hotel. like they spent the whole day traveling and sightseeing in tokyo only for his partner to find out his horny ass booked them a love hotel for the night.)
oh anon, as someone who is 4’11, I LOVE this idea. also my first time writing more than just a hand/blow job so sorry if it’s bad 😓
I’ll try to leave this gn reader since you didn’t specify gender! mentions of the readers “cock” but can be interpreted as a strap! (plz keep the requests coming i need more motivation)
You and Nishinoya had been dating for a year now, and he was eager to escape the rural area of Miyagi prefecture and explore new sights with you.
So, when you suggested spending a night in Tokyo and booking a hotel, he was thrilled! He insisted on handling the hotel booking to spare you the stress, but of course, there was another reason behind his eagerness.
After taking the bus to Tokyo, you spent the day wandering in and out of charming shops, picking up souvenirs and trinkets that matched your unique interests.
As the night drew to a close, you and Nishinoya enjoyed a romantic candlelit dinner, feeling content and ready to unwind in the comfort of a hotel bed.
As you hailed a taxi, Nishinoya quietly directed the driver to a specific location, causing the driver to chuckle. You eyed Noya suspiciously, but he avoided your piercing gaze, pretending to look around with curiosity.
The beat-up car halted to a stop in front of a rather sleek hotel, its planters and greenery framing the modern exterior. The streetlights illuminated the taxi as the two of you stepped out, carrying your overnight bags.
"Yu? What is this," you asked suspiciously, placing a hand on your hip, catching onto the situation at hand. He swallowed nervously, looking down at you.
"I-I... well, [name], I just wanted to spend a romantic night with you," he confessed, hoping to soften your reaction. To his slight surprise, you replied with a smirk as the two of you ducked into the discreet entrance.
Less than ten minutes later, you had him pinned against the door of your room, his hands clutching your shirt as he nervously looked down at you.
"Did you book this so you can be as loud as you want?" you asked in a seductive voice that made his knees buckle. Instead of replying, he half nodded, embarrassed at his own reasoning.
Without hesitation, you closed the distance between you, your lips meeting his in a passionate kiss. Noya responded eagerly, by moving his body closer to yours, practically climbing on top of you.
You pulled away way with a trail of saliva following, “You’ll be excited to see what I brought.” You told him mischievously.
Walking over to your bag with him trailing behind, you pulled out a bottle of lube and his favorite toy. His reaction was adorable with his face flushing red in surprise letting out a small whimper.
With a breathy, "Please," He moved closer to you once again. You couldn't help but let out a sadistic giggle at his reaction.
"Wow, are you already begging?" you teased playfully, holding the bottle of lube and toy in your hands.
Noya's embarrassment turned into anticipation as he watched you with eager eyes. "I-I just... I want tonight to be special," he stammered, his voice betraying a mix of desire and nervousness.
You smiled, appreciating his vulnerability and enthusiasm. "It will be," you assured him, placing a gentle kiss on his lips before moving to his ear, "I’m going to ruin you.”
You led Noya further into the room, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting a warm light. The ambiance was perfect for what you had in mind, and Noya's bashfulness only fueled your desire further.
His spiky hair was now tousled as he lay on the heart-shaped pillow atop the circular bed that you both would be sharing for the night.
At this point, he wore merely a shirt, and his well-defined thighs were widely apart, exposing his cock, that oh-so desperately wanted attention. You chuckled at his vulnerable position, comfortably seated between his exposed legs, exclusively for your amusement. His faint "be quiet" response elicited a gentle coo from you.
He exhaled a surprised gasp as your two fingers, coated with the cold lubricant, gently penetrated his tight hole.
“N-not so fast [name]… we have all night after all.” He reasoned with a shakily voice, fearing he might reach climax too soon if you were too hasty.
"You won't be able to think straight once I'm through with you," you retorted sharply. A hint of disbelief was present in your tone, as you questioned, "Did you truly believe you could secretly book a love hotel without me finding out?" Your fingers, now more assertive, continued their rhythmic movements within him.
He instinctively tried to close his thighs, an attempt to escape the intense stimulation. However, you were swift in preventing that, maintaining control. His response was a feeble, " 'm sorry, please... slow down, slow down or I'll-" His words were cut off as a wave of pleasure overtook him, causing the white liquid to leak from his poor cock onto his abdomen.
"Hmm, already cumming without my permission?" you inquired, detaching your fingers from his sensitive area, drawing a whine from him. Before he could utter an apology, you replaced your fingers with your member, silencing his words with a moan of pleasure.
His hands clung to your shoulder, his voice filled with desperation as you continued your relentless pace. "Too much, it's too much!" he cried, his back arched as you skillfully hit his prostate. Despite the exhaustion in your thighs, you continued your harsh pace not giving him a break.
He could sense tears forming on his eyelashes, an almost unbearable sensation accompanied by intense heat. His inner world was being invaded, as each thrust triggered his prostate.
You grinned, feeling a sense of accomplishment. In your view, it was a breathtaking sight. His eyes struggled to stay open, tears brimming, lower lip caught between his teeth. His legs twitched, hands tightly grasping the sheet. Oh, what a stunning spectacle it was. You couldn’t resist degrading him once more, “How is it that you tower over me, but right now you look so small?”
Leaning into your teasing words, he nodded, moans dripping from his lips as saliva filled his mouth, his mind not processing anything but pleasure.
You gripped his soft thighs and lifted them, transitioning to a missionary position. He felt the increase in your rhythm, his breath catching as he exclaimed, "Ah- gonna cum!"
However, just as he reached the brink, you abruptly pulled out, leaving him feeling empty as hot tears poured down his cheeks. He cried out a pathetic “noo”, his flushed erection twitching in disappointment.
"You can't expect me to do all the work. Why don't you ride me for a bit, yeah?" you directed in a husky tone, acknowledging the long night ahead.

Top Trends in Deck Design for 2023
As we step into the year 2023, homeowners and deck enthusiasts are eager to explore the latest trends in deck design that promise to transform outdoor spaces into functional and stylish retreats. Whether you're planning to build a new deck or renovate your existing one, these top trends will inspire you to create a stunning outdoor oasis that suits your taste and lifestyle.
Tumblr media
Sustainable Decking Materials
Sustainability remains a dominant trend in deck design for 2023. Homeowners are increasingly choosing eco-friendly decking materials, such as composite boards made from recycled plastics and sustainable wood fibers. Not only are these materials environmentally responsible, but they also offer durability and low maintenance, making them an attractive choice.
Multi-Functional Spaces
Today's decks are more than just places to relax; they serve multiple functions. From outdoor kitchens and dining areas to cozy seating nooks and fire pits, decks are becoming versatile outdoor living spaces. Integrating these elements allows homeowners to maximize the utility of their decks and create inviting areas for both relaxation and entertainment.
Mixed Materials and Textures
Mixing various materials and textures adds depth and visual interest to deck designs. Combining materials like wood, stone, metal, and glass can create a dynamic and harmonious outdoor space. Consider incorporating textured surfaces like patterned tiles, pavers, or decorative concrete for added flair.
Deck Lighting Innovations
In 2023, deck lighting has evolved beyond simple fixtures. Homeowners are embracing smart lighting systems that allow for customizable and automated illumination. LED strip lights, recessed lighting, and solar-powered fixtures not only enhance safety and ambiance but also add a touch of modernity to deck designs.
Bold Colors and Stains
Bright and bold colors are making a comeback in deck design. Vibrant deck railings, furniture, and accents are being used to create eye-catching focal points. Stains in rich and saturated hues are also gaining popularity, adding personality and style to wooden decks.
Minimalist and Contemporary Designs
Minimalism and contemporary design principles are influencing deck aesthetics. Clean lines, open spaces, and uncluttered layouts create a sense of sophistication and simplicity. Floating or cantilevered decks with sleek, low-profile railings exemplify this trend.
Biophilic Design Elements
Biophilic design, which connects people with nature, is becoming a prominent trend in deck design. Click here to check this includes incorporating natural elements like living walls, vertical gardens, and built-in planters. These features not only beautify the space but also promote a sense of tranquility and well-being.
Smart Technology Integration
Home automation and smart technology are extending to outdoor spaces. From motorized retractable awnings to integrated sound systems and Wi-Fi-enabled appliances, smart decks are making outdoor living more convenient and enjoyable.
Low-Maintenance Decking
With busy lifestyles, homeowners are gravitating towards low-maintenance decking options. Composite, PVC, and aluminum decking materials require minimal upkeep, allowing more time for relaxation and enjoyment rather than constant maintenance tasks.
Curved and Organic Shapes
Curved and organic deck shapes are gaining attention for their unique and artistic appeal. Rounded corners, circular seating areas, and meandering pathways create a sense of flow and movement within the deck space.
Conclusion
In 2023, deck design is all about creating outdoor spaces that reflect individuality, sustainability, and functionality. By incorporating these top trends into your deck project, you can achieve a beautiful and contemporary outdoor retreat that meets your needs and adds value to your home. Whether you embrace eco-friendly materials, smart technology, or biophilic elements, these trends offer a wealth of inspiration for crafting the perfect outdoor sanctuary.

SCP-307
Item #: SCP-307
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-307 is to be kept within a 0.5-meter square stainless steel planter, within a hydroponic growth chamber equipped with remotely operated light and sprinkler. The sides of the planter are to be equipped with retractable circular blades, the controls to which must be located outside the containment cell and manned at all times. The hydroponic chamber is to be kept within a 5 m x 5 m x 3 m room with stainless steel walls, floor, and ceiling. There are to be no windows in the room - all light will come from the hydroponic grow light, and any observation of SCP-307 is to be done over a security camera. The temperature of the room is to be kept at 15°C to discourage seed production.
If entry to SCP-307's room is necessary, it is to be done by remotely operated robots. Absolutely no living humans are to enter SCP-307's containment cell, following Incident 307 (see Addendum 2).
If any specimens of SCP-307 are discovered outside the containment cell, they are to be burned immediately until only ashes remain. Any personnel who touches SCP-307 must also be burned.
Description: SCP-307 is a creeping vine, similar in appearance to the common English ivy (Hedera helix), save for the presence of greenish thorns on the stems, and the tendency of the leaves to exhibit a purple hue. The vine puts down roots approximately every 30.5 cm (12 in). The roots can penetrate any porous material, but not metal. Any part of the plant not connected to a root system is to be considered dead and safe to examine up close.
SCP-307 appears to be carnivorous, and seems to exhibit some degree of intelligence (see Document 307-A). When in the presence of a warm-blooded animal (hereafter referred to as "the victim"), it grows at a startlingly rapid rate in the direction of the animal, often growing three vines at a time in what appears to be a flanking maneuver. Upon contact, SCP-307 appears to paralyze the victim, and then liquefy and drain all internal organs, musculature, and blood. The mechanisms by which it does this are presently unknown; they have, however, led to researchers calling it "spider ivy".
SCP-307 was first discovered by Agent "Apocalemur" in ████████, ████, where he witnessed it rapidly growing up the trunk of a tree and consuming a nest of American robins. Further examination has revealed the prevalence of the plant throughout North America. It has shown itself to be highly resistant to any attempts at poisoning. This has included all commercially available herbicides, exposure to allelopathic plants, and formaldehyde. Except for the sample obtained for study, the plant has been burned wherever it has been encountered - however, it is very likely that numerous specimens still exist outside of Foundation control. SCP-307 is only kept alive in the hopes of engineering a biological agent to use on the wild population.
Document #307-A: Experiment logs
Experiment 1: █/██/████. Tray of mealworms introduced to cell.
Result: SCP showed no signs of movement.
Experiment 2: █/██/████. Chilean rose-hair tarantula introduced.
Result: SCP showed no signs of movement. Did not respond when tarantula climbed onto SCP.
Experiment 3: █/██/████. Live mouse introduced to cell.
Result: SCP immediately began to grow in the direction of the mouse. One vine extended directly towards it, while two more grew around and in front of it, effectively surrounding the mouse. Mouse immediately became rigid and stopped moving upon contact with SCP-307. Behavior continued for 26 seconds before mouse fell on its side, obviously dead. Vines outside the planter were severed, allowing D-class personnel to collect mouse. Upon retrieval, mouse was noted to appear to be lacking any anatomic structure beside skin and bones. Mouse was taken for further examination.
When mouse was dissected, researchers noted a complete absence of blood, internal organs, and musculature. All interior structures were instead replaced with a system of roots, which researchers traced back to the mouse's skull. A single seed was found inside the mouse's otherwise empty brain cavity. Mouse was subsequently burned.
Experiment 4: █/██/████. Jar containing 130 aphids introduced. Additional camera added for closeup viewing.
Result: Aphids proceeded to attach themselves to SCP-307 and feed. SCP-307 did not respond in any visible manner. All aphids were dead within five (5) minutes of first feeding. Potential for use as insecticide noted.
Addendum 1: Notes of interest taken by Agent Apocalemur during observation of SCP-307
…The energy necessary to facilitate such a rapid growth rate would be astronomical, yet SCP-307 seems able to "pursue" prey regardless of available light or time since it last fed…
…The behavior exhibited by SCP-307 during Incident 307 would suggest the presence of some kind of botanical muscle. Examination of severed vines has revealed no structure that could conceivably serve this purpose…
Addendum 2: In light of Incident 307, SCP-307 has been upgraded to Keter class. Appropriate adjustments to containment protocol have been made. See Incident Report 307 for more details.

Addie didn’t say anything as they first approached the house. She just stood there, arms crossed loosely as she stared up at the hulking outline of the place she once called home. Even in the dark, the Sawyer estate loomed—stone and shadow, its silhouette sharp against the overcast sky. The steep gables, the long veranda, the tall leaded windows that still caught what little moonlight filtered through the clouds... It all looked the same; and yet, it didn’t. Fresh paint, cooler in tone than she remembered, covered the once-warm facade. The rose bushes along the wrought iron fence had been trimmed into strict obedience. Even the fountain in the center of the circular drive gurgled too cleanly now, like someone had finally called in a landscaper to scrub the wild out of it.
She felt Charles glance at her, heard his attempt to break the tension; but grey hues stayed fixated on the house. “Yeah...” She murmured, more to herself than to him. “Creepy’s about right.” There were lights on timers in some of the lower windows—soft glows just bright enough to mimic life inside. Her parents had always cared more about appearances than presence. “They’ll be at the Morgan gala this weekend.” She said after a pause. “They never miss it.” It meant there was plenty of time to get in and get out without incident—unless something had changed, unless her parents finally cleared her out of the house... like they’d always silently threatened to do...
She led Charles around the side path, damp leaves clinging to their boots as the pair moved past the formal patio and its stone planters. Lantern-style sconces flickered low along the brick walls, wired to old circuits that buzzed faintly when the air was wet like it was tonight. Addie didn’t need to see it in full light to remember every inch: the curl of ivy climbing the west side, the archway that led toward the garden maze, the trellis at the back that was always just sturdy enough to climb if one knew where to put their weight... She reached out, fingers brushing the white wood. “Still here.” She mused quietly, almost surprised. The vines were thicker now; but the bones of it remained intact. Solid. Familiar. She tilted her chin toward the slanted roof just above. “Remember when we used to watch the stars up there?"
She didn’t delve further into all the times she and Charles had laid on the rooftop outside her bedroom window on sticky summer nights, a joint passed back and forth between them as the stars blinked over the trees. Or how once, maybe twice, they hadn’t gone back inside at all. The memory pressed in behind her ribs like a heartbeat. They were kids then—reckless, invisible—back when she still believed her bedroom meant something more than wallpaper and things shoved under the bed. Now she wasn’t sure what she’d find inside. Had her parents boxed it all up? Had any of it survived at all?
Tumblr media
She glanced back towards Charles, voice lower now. “Let’s get this over with.” And without waiting, she flipped up her hood and grabbed the lowest rung of the trellis, the wood and vine cool and damp beneath her palms.

✿ Closed starter for Addie (@nomadelaide), outside of the Sawyer household.
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ “You didn’t say it was gonna be this creepy.” A beat. “This was my idea. I didn’t think it was gonna be this creepy.” He muttered, mostly to himself as he stood beside Addie at the edge of the overgrown yard, the moonlight filtering through tree branches like claws over the cracked front walk. The house loomed ahead, its windows dark.
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ He shot her a glance, then grinned, sharp and low, the kind of grin that never really reached his eyes when he felt nervous. “Not that I’m complaining. I love a little breaking and entering. It’s romantic. Truly. Definitely not like a horror movie.”
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎  He fell into step beside her, one hand hovering near her back like he wasn’t sure if she needed space or grounding. The air smelled like wet leaves and something older, like secrets soaked into wood and wallpaper. They pushed past the old gate, something about the scene feeling familiar to Charles, familiar in the way an old scar sometimes ached in the rain. He’d spent a lot of nights sneaking into this house once upon a time, always a little too loud, always a little too late, and always earning that look of death from Addie’s parents the next morning.
‎‎ ‎ ‎ ‎  “Alright, baby,” he said with a playful lilt, voice warmer now, “you ready to go steal your shit back? I guess it’s not really stealing, but let’s call it a heist anyway. Makes it sexier.” He waggled his brows dramatically before turning to her fully, hands tucked into his jacket pockets, grin still lingering like a dare on his lips.

Through Fire and Ice Chapter 10
(Technoblade x Reader)
Chapter 10
< Prev Chapter | Next Chapter >
~~~~~~
“You’re going to love it when you see it.” You could hear the giddiness in Dream’s voice. His hands were over your eyes as you, Sapnap and Dream walked to where they had been building your house.
 “Dream’s been working on this for days now.” Sapnap chuckled, “I helped a little bit.” You couldn’t help but smile at their excitement. You could feel Dream’s puffs of air hitting the back of your neck, his touch cool on your skin. When he led you to a full stop and he turned you, with his hands still over your eyes. He pressed his body against yours as he whispered in your ear. You could feel the heat rise up on your neck.
“I hope you like it,” His voice causing shivers to run down your spine. “A home fit for a princess.” With that he takes his hands off of your eyes and you open them. In front of you was a home planted inside the wall just like everyone else had, but this one had a tiny, enclosed porch, with little planter boxes for you to garden in. Big circular shaped windows on either side of the front door stared at you as if they were eyes. The dark oak door had a circular frame, and two blue lanterns hung from the overhang of the porch on each side.
 “I-I can’t accept this Dream,” You sputtered out turning to face him.
 “Sure you can! Dream’s done way better stuff than this for people.” Sapnap chimed in chuckling at the blush on your cheeks. “This is child’s play compared to what he’s even done for a lot of the people in our old village.” Sapnap scratched the back of his head. He didn’t go on when Dream cleared his throat, his eyes meeting Sapnap’s almost as if to tell him to shut up.
 “If you don’t want to accept it for free, I’ll make you a deal? How do you feel about that?” Biting your lip, you look back toward the beautiful house just waiting for you to walk inside. Hesitantly nodding, your eyes flit back to Dream. You could see his grin behind the mask, the sight making your heart flutter. “I’m sure you’ve heard of the festival going on tonight? To mark the one-month anniversary of us all moving down here?” He cocked his head at you. You shook your head. Dream was the first one to bring it up. Niki was too busy to think about anything else other than cooking and helping out at the hospital, and Techno didn’t know much about social gatherings in general nor did he care much at the thought, let alone when they were going to be, but you were the same way.
 “I don’t talk to a lot of people.” You shrugged and you heard him chuckle.
 “Alright…” He cupped your cheek, “How about you come to the festival with me? Then it’ll be even.” His voice almost took on a sultry tone. You could see the hope in his eyes from behind the mask. You gave him a deadpan stare.
 “That doesn’t really seem fair.” You were confused when Sapnap shook his head sighing at you. What did you do? This caused a laugh to come from Dream, his thumb stroking across your cheek.
 “Don’t pay attention to him,” he jerked his head toward Sapnap. “You wanna come to the festival with me?” His hand drops from your face. You ponder over his question. You remembered Techno wanted to build your house for you, he had actually asked you what you wanted for your house. Guilt twisted in your gut about Techno, well at least he didn’t have to worry about another thing to do. Looking up at Dream you nodded, it was the least you could do to repay his kindness. He lifted his mask, and you could see the excitement in his green eyes.  “Tonight is gonna be a good one princess.” He took your hand pulling you toward the house.
 The inside of the house was well built, and somewhat furnished. Still trying to get over the fact that Dream had called you princess, you followed them and listened to every word they had to say. Sapnap kept showing you everything that he had built. Overall, it was a nice home, what drew your eye was the fully stocked bookshelves and you found yourself gravitating toward that more than anything.
 “I know how you like your books, so I got what I could from around here.” Dream stood by your side as you allowed your fingers to trace over the spines of the books on the shelves. Sapnap muttered that he would be right back, and he left out the front door hastily.
 “Why are you doing any of this for me Dream?” Your eyes never left the books on the bookshelves, but you could feel his eyes boring into you.
 “I want you to know you have friends who have your back,” Dream explained after a few seconds of processing your questions. “Having a home is the first step to being comfortable.” He half shrugged. “This is where I want you to make your memories.” He let out a chuckle. “I think my first good memory of this place is when your face lit up when you saw it.” His shoulder nudged yours. You weren’t able to hide your blush from him and he led you to the small couch.
 “Who made the furniture?” You ask your hand grazing over a nearby end table.
 “George did,” Dream sat on the couch throwing his arm over the back of the couch. He kicked his feet out in front of him, one boot resting on the other. “He wanted to help at his pace.” You sat next to Dream, his face illuminated by a lantern hanging above your heads. He took his mask and haphazardly threw it on the coffee table in front of him. You felt honored that he took his mask off in front of you. He didn’t do that often it seemed.
 You didn’t know how much time had passed but a golden clock on the wall glared at you when your eyes met it. Oh no… You were late in helping Niki out.
 “Uhh… Dream, this has been amazing, but I have to go, please tell Sapnap I said thank you.” You pushed yourself up from the couch, and Dream stood with you. He towered over you, and his green eyes searched your face. “Where should I meet you for tonight?” His chuckle sent butterflies to your stomach as he cupped your cheek.
 “Meet me here princess.” His tone was smooth, and his thumb brushed over your cheek. “I’ll come by sometime after your route.” Your cheeks heated up under his hand and you pushed forward giving him a hug which he returned. The hug enveloped you, and you gave a content sigh.
 “Thank you for everything Dream.” You pulled away from him, tucking the hair in your face behind your ear. He fished around his pocket for a half second and he held out a set of keys to you.
“I’m glad you like your new home!” His smile was genuine, and you take the keys from his hands. It had been a very long time since you were able to call anywhere home. Returning his smile as you clutched the keys to your chest you moved past him and out the door. Booking it to Niki’s, you see a familiar red cloak standing next to your already loaded up cart.
 “Heh?” Techno cocked his head at you. “You’re late nerd.” He teased. His eyes worriedly ran over your figure, not that you noticed. You weren’t hurt, but you usually were never late. Techno was wondering if he should have been out looking for you. He had gotten the cart prepared in your absence to keep his mind busy.
 “Sorry,” you huffed out, your hands rested on your knees as you caught your breath. “Dream, Sapnap and George made me a house and Dream and Sapnap took me to see it.” You explained. This made Techno’s heart sink. When he wasn’t busy, he was planning out your house. His talks with you about your house were for nothing. You had even wanted to help him build it. Gritting his teeth, he turns to the cart, grabbing onto the handle to pull it.
 “I see…” He kept his voice as even as possible, but you heard the disappointment in his voice.
 “I know you wanted to do it, but this was kind of a surprise to me.” You shrugged nudging his shoulder with yours. “It’s not something that needs to be done anymore. We can spend our time doing other things, like mining.” He perked up at that as the two of you set off on your route. The two of you talking as you went.
 “So, Dream said there’s a festival going on tonight do you wanna come?” You asked as you handed out the food to the people on the street.
 “Is Dream taking you to the festival?” Techno peered down at you, as an old woman took the box of food from your hands. He had known about the festival. Phil had been planning it for a few days now. It wasn’t important to Techno, but the excitement he heard in your voice piqued his interest.
 “Yeah, I’m assuming with George and Sapnap too. I want you to come too.” You shrugged as Techno struggled to swallow down the lump in his throat. “You’ve been working too hard on the mine and helping me. A night of fun is exactly what you deserve.” You beamed up at him. Techno didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want to say no to you, but he felt it would ruin your night if he was there. But… Like hell would he allow Dream to do as he pleases. If he didn’t show up, he would be giving Dream exactly what he wanted, and Techno was spiteful toward Dream.
 “Alright…” He grumbled; he wasn’t liking the fact that he was going to have to be social. The smile that spread on your face when he agreed, was worth it though. He kept quiet as you greeted the people who approached you for their rations. You happily handed the people their boxes of food, waving them off, missing the way they would side eye Techno. Sometimes they even had the gall to look between the both of you. Dirty assumptions playing across their minds.
 ‘They are nothing.’
 ‘Slaughter.’
 ‘Protect her.’
 The voices had their demands, not that he would give in to some of them. Even so, he would move in a nonchalant way, to obscure their view of you when their thoughts played out across their faces as plain as day. You kept making your way to people, handing them piping hot boxes of food. When you continually greeted people and asked about their days, Techno had zoned out, the small talk grating on him. You made it look easy. He wasn’t one for talking to people in general.
 The two of you were deep in the residential area of the Burrow when you ran out of boxes. You thought that this was the perfect time to show Techno your new home. When the two of you were on your way back to Niki’s you pointed out the house to him, which caused him to huff in annoyance.
 “Don’t be so grumpy,” You nudged his shoulder. “I’ll let you build onto it how bout’ that? Anything you want to build on it.” Your eyes met his and he nodded contentedly. A smile spread on your face as you fished around your pocket. You held the keys to your house in the palm of your hand. Separating the two keys you held one out for him to take.
 “You’re letting me have a key to your house?” Techno cocked his head at you. His heart thumped in his chest, and he took the dangling key from your hand, tucking it into one of his own pockets. The voices in his mind sounded off, projecting his worries on how you were too trusting, giving him a key to your home.
 “Yeah, why not? You’re literally my best friend.” An embarrassed blush spread over your cheeks, and Techno felt his heart flutter. You could feel his golden eyes on you, and you acted like you didn’t notice.
 “Hm,” Techno grunted as he nodded in response, not knowing how to respond to that. His body gravitated closer to yours, the back of your hand just barely touching his. Resisting the urge to wrap your hand around his, you cleared your throat. There was a comfortable silence between the two of you until you got back to Niki’s bakery. You still had the second half of the route left to complete, but with Techno there you didn’t mind.
 --
 After finishing the route, both you and Techno, made your way back to your new home, to meet up with Dream. Looking around he wasn’t around your home so you shrugged and figured you could show Techno around the place. You opened the door and pulled him in. He looked around with almost uninterested eyes. While you looked up at him and deadpanned at the fact that his head almost hit the ceiling. You knew he was tall but…  He had to be over seven feet tall…
 While you were busy gawking at him over his height, he looked around his eyes scanning over your bookshelves. His eyebrows furrowed at things that he didn’t exactly like, little things, things that could be exploited. Small holes in the wood, that could be used to spy on you. He inspected the windows, to see how easily someone could get in. He already wanted to install a deadbolt on the front door the moment he walked in.
 “I’m making you a weapon’s rack, for when we start making your weapons.” Techno stated. You knew better than to argue with him. You threw your hands up, while a smile pulled at your lips.
 “I told you that you could add anything you like around here,” You leaned against the wall watching him. He entered the kitchen, staring at a blank wall at the end of the house. He had plans, but he was going to build a door to something similar to Phil’s ‘backyard’ for you.
 A sharp knock rang out in the air. Standing up from the wall you open the door as you see Dream standing there, a flower vase filled with lilies, in his hands. You could see the grin stretching across his face when the door opened.
 “Hey princess,” Dream chuckled as he held out the vase for you. “Are you ready to have the time of your life tonight?” You felt Techno’s presence approach behind you as you took the vase into your hands.
 “Well, I’m flattered you noticed the crown on my head Dream, but you don’t really have to call me princess.” Techno bent down so his eyes were level with Dreams. His joke caused you to giggle as you walked over to the end table next to the couch. You completely missed Dream and Techno’s stare down. “Wouldn’t miss this night for the world.” Techno narrowed his eyes as he said it.
 Dream’s hands clenched and unclenched, and his shoulders slightly shook in a silent anger at seeing the hybrid standing in front of him. The sight soothed Techno, and he chuckled and straightened up and cocked his head at Dream. He regained his composure when you turned back around to look at them.
 “Thank you again for everything Dream.” You walked over to the two of them. Unaware of what had gone down, just a second before. “Are we all ready to go?” Dream cleared his throat as he nodded, his eyes scanning Techno.
 “Yep.” Dream gave a small sigh as he turned around and walked down the steps of the porch, waiting for you and Techno to join him. You locked your door behind Techno, hearing a satisfying click. You were the first to descend down the steps to Dream. You planted yourself in between the two men as you started off toward the town square. “I didn’t think festivals were your thing Techno.” Dream spoke up, side eyeing Techno through his mask.
 “Well, you see,” Techno started, “I’m tryin’ to be more social.” Techno gave a half shrug. “I also don’t want to miss out on all the fun.” Techno jeered at him; he was having fun ruining his plans. Dream picked up on Techno’s double meaning, and he grit his teeth.
 “I see…” Dream nodded, “had I known I would have invited you myself.” You looked between the both of them, quietly listening to their conversation.
 “I’m sure,” Techno rolled his eyes. It was going to be a long night…
 --
 The night was filled with friends, games, and drinks. Niki had joined your group for the night, opting to drink with you. Dream had found Sapnap and George and was conversing with them throughout the night. Every once in a while, Dream’s gaze would wander to you and he would give a tiny wave, and you would wave back. As the night grew on and you had gone to dance with Niki, you felt yourself stumbling, the haze of the alcohol overtaking your mind.
 You spent most of the night with both Techno and Dream. Wilbur and Tommy kept Techno company when you weren’t with him. They noted the way he watched over you. Seeing his eyes scan the crowd for anyone who would do harm to you, as per the voices in his minds request. They were instantly scheming, on ways to get you two together.
 “Techno, come on, Fundy’s got this drinking game, I think your girl’s playing with Niki,” Wilbur pulled on Techno.
 “She’s not my girl, Wilbur.” Techno sighed. The large crowd around him, was almost too much. Between that and the voices, he felt a little bit overstimulated.
 “Yet!” Wilbur said as he pointed upwards to accentuate the word. “Come on, it’ll be fun.” Wilbur raised his eyebrows at the hybrid. Techno looked back and forth between you and him. You had been mid drink when he looked over at you. He sighed, and nodded grumbling to himself as he made his way over to you. That was when Will noticed Dream heading over to your table as well. “Tommy, you gotta distract Dream.” Will’s head snapped over to Tommy as he nodded his head in Dream’s direction.
 “What do you want me to do man?” Tommy asked his eyes landing on Dream’s approaching form. A look of panic almost reaching his eyes. Will just pushed him toward Dream in a hurry.
 “Anything, just be yourself, and don’t let him near them.” Will whispered to him. He watched as Tommy walked up to Dream in his boisterously confident way. His arms outstretched and he gave a big toothy grin to the man he needed to distract.
 “Dream! Mah friend!” Tommy practically shouted, slapping a hand down on Dream’s shoulder. “How ya been? Come on, I got something to show ya! We gotta find Tubbo!” Tommy pulled Dream away and Wilbur watched as Dream turned to look at both you and Techno. He held his breath when Dream tried to pull away, but Tommy had insisted. A sigh of relief escaped him as Dream gave into Tommy, following him to wherever Tommy was bringing him to.
 Will headed over to your table only to sit next to Niki. He watched for Dream so he could distract him next if need be. You were already slurring your words, but you cuddled up closer to Techno practically leaning on him, and that brought a smile to Will’s face. Techno needed someone in his life and those close to him knew it, even if Techno denied it. Dream seemed to get everything he wanted, well… Not this time. Wilbur would make sure of it. At least for tonight.
 ~~
 You pulled at Techno’s hands, trying to get him to come with you to the dancing area. Swaying a tiny bit, your eyes begged him, even when he looked over at the other dancers in discomfort. He could definitely hold his alcohol better than you. He didn’t want to deny you, but others could use this against you… He didn’t want to make you a target like he was.
 “Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaassssssseee??” Your whine knocked him out of his thoughts. “When are we ever going to do this again?” Techno let a sigh out and he stood from his seat, leaving his cloak on his chair. His hand was still in yours as you led him to the other dancers. You got into your positions, this wasn’t any ballroom dance by any means, the music was too fast paced for that, people locked arms and spun around to the tempo of the music and the two of you followed suit. He kept you steady, even as you were tripping on your own feet due to the alcohol.
 Techno reveled in your laugh as the two of you danced, the outside world was quickly shut out when he focused soley on you. Keeping you upright, keeping you happy. It made him feel things that he hadn’t felt in a very long time. Your hands on his arms felt right and that’s when he knew, that he would do anything for you, for your happiness.
 All this time fighting, adventuring… None of it had the satisfaction of when you held him closer. When he caught you staring up at him, with a blush on your face. He had lived a life that many dreamed of, but he only dreamed of you, and he found you.
 You stumbled on your own feet once more, and he was there to catch you when you fell, and you fell right into his chest. Both your movements stopped, as if time for the two of you was standing still, even as the others around you still spun in their dances. You laughed at your own clumsiness, letting out a little snort. That was enough to send Techno in a fit of laughter on his own. He watched as your cheeks reddened and you buried your face into his chest in embarrassment while you still laughed. This was a perfect moment that Techno would cherish forever.
 ~~
 Dream walked back to the festival, a bit peeved at Tommy who was still yammering in his ear about something. Tommy had led him to Tubbo’s bee farm. To show him bees of all things, while he looked for Tubbo. Why was this so important now? Any other time would have been fine but right now during a festival? Dream shook his head sighing. He was supposed to be with you, and you were off doing who knows what with Techno.
 “Tommy, I don’t actually give a fuck right now.” Dream interrupted Tommy’s ramblings as he turned to the boy to his right. This earned a scoff from Tommy, who put a hand on his chest trying to look affronted.
 “Oh, come on Dream, that’s rude.” Tommy started to say but he was interrupted again.
 “I had something to do when you pulled me away, isn’t that rude too?” Dream sighed rubbing at his eyes. “Listen, any other time would have been good, but this isn’t a good time.” He tried putting on a more comforting tone. “Just please let me go do what I need to do.” Tommy put his hands up and stepped away from him. He had done his job, maybe it was Wilbur’s time to shine. “Thank you.” Dream sighed and walked back to the main area where he had seen you last.
 You and Techno were absent from your table and there still sitting at the table was Will and Niki looking in the direction of the dancing area with interest on their faces. Following their gazes, he clenched his fist at the sight. Techno stood there with you in his arms, you pressed up against him flush. You seemed to be falling asleep on him.  Gritting his teeth, he just watches. Techno slid an arm underneath your legs holding you to his chest bridal style. That was enough for Dream.
 He left, the festival still raging around him. He went to go find Sapnap and George. When he finally found the two, he felt numb and angry. After everything that he did for you… Techno? No… He just needed to step up his game. Show you just how dangerous Techno was. The memory that itched across Dream’s face was enough evidence that Techno was dangerous, that all he did was destroy things. He didn’t want that piglin to destroy you, and he would do anything to keep you out of that monster’s reach.
 Sapnap and George greeted him, with Sapnap asking him if he had been with you. He shook his head. The disappointment that played across their faces was almost too much. George gave Dream a reassuring look.
 “I’m sure you’ll get her; you’re Dream after all.” George offered. “And the Dream I know always gets what he wants.” He laughed as his grip tightened on Dream’s shoulder. Dream sighed. His eyes landing on Sapnap.
 “Want to make some chaos?” Dream asked, he didn’t want to do what he was about to do. But he needed to pull out all the stops. Techno couldn’t control himself in certain moments and you would be in the middle of that if he didn’t stop it.
 “What’s up?” A smirk pulled at Sapnap’s lips the moment Dream mentioned chaos.
 “I think we should let everyone know we have a pig fucker in our midst.”
 ~~
 You were out like a light in his arms, it was only when he unlocked your door with his key and he stepped in your new bedroom, did you wake up.
 “Mm, Techno?” You still slurred a bit, but your eyes fluttered open as you focused in on his face.
 “I’m here,” His voice was barely above a whisper. He brought you over to your new bed, reluctantly setting your body down. His eyes met yours and you reached out for him.
 “Stay… Please…?” Your voice came out like a whimper, and he could do nothing but nod as he sat down on the bed, pulling the covers over you. It didn’t seem to be enough for you because you sat up, and tried to pull the covers on him, your head sinking to his shoulder as you tried but failed to do so. Techno let out a chuckle. This was something he was getting used to, but you were never so bold about it before. He laid down with you, after taking his mask off, your head still on his chest.
 You felt the room spinning around you and the only thing that kept you grounded was Techno’s hold on you. It was quite a while before you spoke again.
 “Thanks for tonight Tech,” You whispered into his neck, before planting a kiss to where his pulse could be felt. This made Techno freeze. Feeling your lips on his skin was something he had wanted for weeks now. But there was just one problem.
 “You’re drunk.” Techno’s monotone voice rang out in the room. He pulled away to look you in the eyes. This made you giggle.
 “So…?” Your eyes searched his, lips slightly grazing his. All you had to do, was push forward… And you did. Your lips crashed down on to his, and you saw the look of surprise in his eyes before you closed your own. Techno took a shaking hand trying to decide on deepening the kiss or pulling away from you. Unbeknownst to you, his eyes flooded black, his silver irises drinking the sight of you in, and his urges took over.
 ‘Ruin her’
 ‘Take her’
 ‘Make her yours.’
 Between everything he wanted, and the voices it should have been easy to fall into the kiss. But no… He pulled away from you. Gently setting you on the mattress, he got up from the bed. His hands clenching and unclenching. He couldn’t… Not while you were like this.
 “Techno?” The sound shattered his heart. You sounded hurt. If this went on everyone involved would regret it. He couldn’t do that to you.
 “I-” Techno stammered. “I’m sorry…” With that he grabbed his mask and walked to the door. “I’ll be right out here. I’m not leaving… I just can’t do this right now…” He hoped you understood, hoped you wouldn’t remember this in the morning, but yet he hoped you did…
 The rest of the night, was nothing but pain… He heard you cry yourself to sleep. He desperately wanted to go in there, kiss your tears away, tell you he wanted to be with you. But no, he listened to your crying on the other side of the door. He wasn’t sure if he could hold himself back if he went back in there. It was better if he kept an eye on you from outside your door. The voices shouting at him a million miles a minute.
 The night crept by and Techno did not sleep.
Desert X 2021, Coachella Valley, CA
Every two years since 2017, Desert X has turned a stretch of the Coachella Valley into a playground for massive art installations that offer visually impactful but often provocative thoughts about the surrounding desert environment.
Eduardo Sarabia, “The Passenger,” Using petates, traditional rugs woven from palm fibers, the Mexican artist has transformed the legacy of desert journeys, migrations and searches for a better future into a triangular maze.
Nicholas Galanin, “Never Forget,” The Alaskan artist has co-opted the instantly recognizable letterforms of the Hollywood sign—which, when erected in 1923, served as an advertisement for the whites-only Hollywoodland housing development—into a 45-foot tall, impossible-to-ignore reminder of the indigenous Cahuilla people’s claim to the area. “The chosen narrative of Palm Springs is one of Hollywood,” Galanin says of the work’s location, and he hopes its visibility will “invite everyone to understand these histories.”
Xaviera Simmons, “Because You Know Ultimately We Will Band A Militia,” On a barren stretch of Gene Autry Trail flanked by power lines and ads, the New York artist has turned a series of billboards into monuments that speak to reverence, resistance and the redistribution of resources. Simmons says that “billboards have a way of constructing whiteness,” so here she has mixed public domain images from the Met with bold text statements that together allow people of color to self-define their monuments.
Ghada Amer, “Women’s Qualities,” The Egyptian-born, New York-based artist continues a 2001 series in which she asks people on the street to share qualities that they identify with or to which they have been ascribed. For this iteration on Sunnylands’ circular lawn, you can “listen to the equality of women according to the people of Palm Springs” as planters bloom over time and spell out a ring of words: strong, caring, determined, beautiful, loving, nurturing, resilient.
Serge Attukwei Clottey, “The Wishing Well,” Water scarcity unites both Palm Springs and Clottey’s home in Ghana (and, as time goes on, an increasing number of places in the world). Here, the artist has used yellow plastic Kufuor gallons, a water-toting vessel that’s a symbol of that scarcity (and one of colonialism, as they were introduced by Europeans), to create a yellow brick road of sorts.
Zahrah Alghamdi, “What Lies Behind the Walls,” Slabs of regional cements, soils and dyes that have been assembled into a monolithic wall.
Alicja Kwade, “ParaPivot” (sempiternal clouds), The Sculpture consists of interlocking frames supporting large blocks of white marble that appear as ice calved from a distant glacier. The array of steel and stone draws viewers into the frame of this massive, yet fragile, universe where simple forms yield complex meanings.The result is an illusion of instability. This wobbling perception of size and relationship lies at the heart of the work, as with every step, the sculpture and its components reform into new combinations. Time and space become distorted as rocks pulled from 200 million years ago levitate into the clear blue sky. Like the experience of desert itself, ParaPivot, even as it is made up largely of emptiness, is dense with meaning.
Kim Stringfellow, “Jackrabbit Homestead,” A 122-square-foot cabin stuck between the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce and a CVS that sparks conversations about the mid-century homesteading experience.
Felipe Baeza, “Finding Home in My Own Flesh,” the mural acknowledges the Coachella Valley as both a border region and a queered space, and honors immigrants and queer people of color who have been an integral part of the region’s story. While these communities have long populated the area, they’re often omitted from its better known histories.
Christopher Myers, “The Art Of Taming Horses,” the sculpture tell the story of two ranchers — one Mexican and one African-American — whose personal adversities and love for raising horses led them to create a welcoming community in the place that eventually would become Palm Springs. While the story is fictional, it speaks to the truths that exist in the slippage between history and mythology. Altanviro stands in for the thousands of Mexican migrants who have come to call the Coachella Valley home, and Loper reminds us that long ago many who fled bondage in search of freedom traveled south, perhaps even through this desert, on their way to free townships along Mexico’s northern border. This story of acceptance, although never perfect, echoes among many communities that have found a welcoming home in this place.
broken crayons and half a peanut butter cracker
snapetober day 28: “what did you do?” / day 25: headache plot what plot? there’s no plot in parenthood
Tentatively, he opened his eyes.
There wasn’t an immediate assault of pain as he blinked through the tired haze still enveloping him, so he figured it was safe to fully open them. Severus sat up, carding lazy fingers through his hair, and glared at the part in his curtains that allowed soft sunlight to filter into his bedroom.
He had gone to bed last night, suffering, after finding his jar of headache balm both empty and repurposed for inane childish use. He’d immediately binned the idea of staying up to brew a new batch, electing for an early bedtime and a moment of well-deserved peace under cool sheets instead.
It was early, especially for a Sunday morning, but the bright June sun had no qualms against rising as such. He might as well take this time to brew, before the next inevitable headache came.
Dressing quietly in a pair of trousers and a grey henley, Severus crept out of his room and peered through the door across the hall. He could make out the sprawled-out outline of a toddler fast asleep in their crib, the knitted blanket Minerva had made him only covering a singular foot. He sighed as he made out the rising and falling of a tiny chest and flicked his wand to fix the discarded blanket before closing the door with a gentle click.
He still wondered how they both ended up here.
There was a twist in his stomach, a tug on a shard of something sharp in his chest, whenever he thought about Lily. It had only been a couple of months since she had died - since she had been killed, not just at the hands of the Dark Lord, but in a way, also at the hands of himself.
Taking in the child who had nowhere else to go was the least he could do.
Jumping off the Astronomy Tower was the other, but Albus had warded the Observation Deck not too long after his breakdown in the circular office and though it irked him that the Headmaster had such little faith in his - admittedly - suicidal potions professor, he should at least know Severus wouldn’t do something quite so. . .dramatic.
Or maybe he would.
Fine, Albus had a point, but Severus was still allowed to be mad about it.
He grimaced as he walked into a discarded toy, accidentally causing the contraption of colorful plastic to light up and start singing. His wand was still in his hand, so he cast a silencing charm over the boy’s door and flicked the off switch on the activity cube.
The cube wasn’t the only thing littering the corridor, or the rest of his living space truth be told, and he could feel the remnants of last night’s headache reigniting. He could make out a half dozen jars scattered on the floor as well and scowled as he picked up the one holding something inside.
If that little brat was playing with expensive potion ingredients, he was going to owl him back to Hogwarts and demand Albus rehome him, no living relatives be damned.
Instead, he found it full of broken crayons and half a peanut butter cracker.
On second thought, he might just rehome him anyway.
He stalked into the kitchen and started brewing a pot of coffee, mentally going over the ingredients he would need to brew the much-needed headache balm. The sweet, earthy smell of dark-roasted Columbian beans permeated the air now, so he poured himself a mug and stirred in sugar.
He shook his head at the choice of mug - a tacky green thing that read “happy holidays” in the worst possible font - and took a long sip. It had been a gift from a first year - and not even one of his own first years at that, but a bloody Hufflepuff who wasn’t even good at potions - but last Christmas had been his first ever as a professor and despite scowling down at the child when handed the gift, he couldn’t help but feel a flicker of something whenever he looked at it.
So yes, he had packed up the stupid mug when term ended and it was time to go.  It wasn’t even the strangest thing he had packed up. This time, he had an orphaned toddler he had been coerced - manipulated, guilt-tripped, asked by the child’s own dead mother, take your bloody pick - into taking with him.
At least he didn’t have to return to Spinner’s End.
If being handed the keys to a small cottage in Solva was the payment for raising a child, he supposed he could have done worse. Of course, the little house hadn’t been chosen with his comfort in mind, but more with the safety and well being of The Boy Who Lived.
Oh, Merlin.
He was really doing this, wasn’t he?
It had been easy when the school year was still ongoing - Minerva and Pomona especially, were keen to take little Harry Potter off his hands whenever he had a class to teach or potions to brew. He had just gotten the hang of walking then and could often be found stumbling through the castle corridors and babbling away to bewildered portraits and students alike.
Now though? Now it was him and him alone against an almost two-year-old who was insistent on getting into everything and disregarding every boundary Severus had set. He was just like his wretched father, but Minerva had simply laughed at him and insisted that’s just how toddlers were.
He didn’t  bother to point out she had inadvertently called James Potter a toddler.
He was too busy freaking out over how his path had led him to this particular point in life. He didn’t know how to be a father - all he had to go off was what not to do, and that largely consisted of not shoving a child down the stairs or drinking himself stupid.
Severus finished his coffee and set the empty mug aside. He opened a cabinet and began pulling out what he would need, easily settling into the familiar routine of filling the cauldron with water, picking marjoram and peppermint from the windowsill planter, prepping his ingredients, and began brewing.
This wasn’t the first time he’d nearly thought himself into an anxiety attack over Harry’s permanent existence in his life. He didn’t even care how it had happened anymore, all he cared about was keeping the boy alive for the summer.
He’d deal with the the rest of his life part later.
He fished out the steeped bitterroots from the simmering cauldron and moved them to the cutting board, finely chopping up the softened magenta plant. Normally, he would discard them after this step, but he was intent on experimenting this morning in hopes of increasing the potency while also decreasing its unfortunate side effect of putting him to sleep after a few hours.
These days, he needed to be more alert and clear-headed.
Keeping the bitterroot in should do just that.
“Let’s see what happens then.”
Severus dropped about half of the chopped bitterroot into the cauldron and watched it carefully, wand at the ready in case the potion had an adverse reaction. The light blue brew was slowly becoming grey and he pursed his lips, adding a few more drops of peppermint oil as an inhibitor and nodded when the potion turned back to blue.
He turned the flames off and floated the cauldron onto the kitchen table, resting the hot pewter on top of a wayward oven mitt, admiring the ribbons of herb scented steam that curled from the finished potion. Now it just had to cool before he could store it - or test it.
Setting the cutting board back on the table, he took his assortment of knives and measuring devices to the sink and spelled the tap on. As water ran over the dishes, he began rifling through the refrigerator for anything he could use for breakfast.
It seemed they needed to make a trip to the local market soon - this afternoon, preferably - and he scowled at the thought. Picking up groceries wouldn’t be such a chore, he thought, if someone didn’t insist on picking up every interesting stone they passed or kept veering off the path to follow the ducks.
He was holding onto a carton of eggs and was moving aside containers of unlabeled potion ingredients for the last bit of swiss he knew was somewhere, when he heard an excited little yell sound off behind him.
He peered over his shoulder and dropped the carton of eggs in alarm.
“What are you - get down from there!” he shouted, taking in the scene before him.
The messy-haired, green-eyed one year old that should still have been asleep was now perched on top of the table - and how the bloody hell had he managed to climb up there?! - and was peering curiously into the waiting cauldron.
Harry had stepped in the remaining bitterroot and had a tiny fist full of Merlin knows what, and was sprinkling his finds into the cauldron just as he had seen his guardian do many times before.
Severus whipped out his wand and cast a shield charm on the cauldron as he rushed to the table and picked up the delighted child, moving him out of the way before the potion could potentially explode.
“What did you do?!” he demanded of the insufferable toddler, setting him down on the farthest possible counter and glaring down at him.
In response, Harry only clapped his hands and tried to peer over his guardian’s shoulder. “Ba!” he squealed, pointing at the cauldron.
Severus rubbed at his temple, another headache threatening to flare up. How had he been so careless to not listen in for Harry? To leave the cauldron somewhere he could reach - and how had he?! Hadn’t he learned better by now? The boy had been in his care for how long now? Six months altogether? Two weeks out of Hogwarts? And Merlin, what a mistake this was turning out to be.
He rested his forehead against Harry’s for a moment before setting him back down. He had half a mind to floo call Minerva and ask her to take Harry for the day while he brewed a new batch of headache balm and maybe drafted a plan to off himself.
He returned to the abandoned cauldron and blinked. The potion was still the same shade of blue he had left it. He swirled a stirring stick through it and eyed it carefully, but the balm soon became a muddy brown as he fully incorporated whatever Harry had added.
He tested a small bit of the potion on the inside of his wrist and hissed as the skin blistered, immediately wiping the ruined potion off on the hem of his shirt. He turned to glare at the toddler and found he had wandered over to the discarded carton of now-broken eggs and was playing with bits of shell, a bit of yolk rubbed into his curls.
“Oh, for Merlin’s sake.” he sighed, in equal parts amusement and defeat. “What are you doing now?”
He vanished the eggs, much to the child’s confusion and levitated the spelled-clean, pajama-clad boy into the air. “Come, Mr. Potter, I believe we have breakfast to locate.” He reached over and turned the still running tap off and grabbed the floating child.
He hoped Minerva wouldn’t mind the company.
“Nack?”
Severus shook his head, biting back an affectionate grin as he grabbed his cloak and a handful of floo powder. “Yes, you can have a snack.” he confirmed, with a very serious voice, tossing the powder into the grate.
He draped the cloak over the boy, covering his face, and stepped into the fireplace.  ------ self-indulgent trash where i based baby harry off what my own toddler did? he didnt ruin a headache balm but he definitely decided to drop a handful of odds and ends into my coffee cup so same thing. the egg incident was a nightmare and sev should consider himself lucky that he has magic
anyway, hello, for my birthday today i wrote neurotic dad!snape i might delete bc ik how dumb this was
  They retired to their quarters, moving their equipment and belongings from the helicraft, which for Thym meant the clothes on their back, the blade on their hip, and the few books Basil had lent them.   As they parted ways with their shipmates, Bay leaned towards Thym and whispered a piece of advice.
“Your sword, they won’t let you in until it’s peace-tied.”
“Oh shit, thanks.” Thym scrambled to find something in their pockets to bind the weapon with, and came up with only a strip of clean cotton bandaging.  Making do, they tied a series of neat loops around sword and sheath. The wide white fabric added an odd elegance to the traditional safety measure. They tried not to dwell on the idea that their primary defense was now useless in a pinch.  This place seemed safe enough.
  Thym eyed the greenhouses they passed on the way to the long halls that held the living quarters. Ivy and flora grew up the walls, and covered most of the building.  If it weren’t for the many long windows, the structure could nearly blend into the rich landscape around it. Wide double doors and casually-dressed guards welcomed them into the dorms.
 Basil took two numbered keys and led the way to the upper floor, unlocking a vacant unit.  Thym had been given their own room, larger than the space they’d shared with Basil aboard the Draco.  They set their books down on the small writer’s desk within, and took a quick look around. Hanging planters and gossamer curtains gave the small room a homey look.
 Thym was ready to explore, but when they turned to Basil, he looked exhausted.
 “I suppose it’s time to turn in?” They guessed.
 Basil nodded “We’ll take a look around tomorrow.”
 After briefly discussing plans, he bid Thym good night.
 Thym lit a single candle to read by, but their attention was drawn towards the window.
Night had arrived in full, but there was a sliver of moonlight by which to see.  Fields heavy with near-ripe crops stretched out before them, patchy with the warm light radiating from the buildings that sheltered them on two sides.  In the distance, a forest stretched up and away. Thym squinted at the treeline. There was soft light there too. Perhaps the keep was not so remote as it appeared.
 With trees now on their mind, they thought again about the curious matter of The Tree.  The way Basil had said it...The Tree.  As if there wasn’t any other tree of much note, at least not next to this one.
 Surely it couldn’t be that singularly important.  Still, in New London there weren't any particularly grand trees at all, so any nice example was worth a look.
 Turning from their window, Thym eyed the books waiting on the desk and shook their head.  They were too restless to settle in just yet. Surely it wouldn’t hurt to take a quick look around.  Slipping into the low-lit hallway, they tried to orient themself, and made way to the center of the building.
 Thym passed through a common room they hadn’t seen yet. Moonlight shone in through a skylight, but it fell in odd shades of grey-green. As their eyes adjusted, they studied the flecked silver and emerald on their palms, then looked up.  The skylight had been covered by leaves, not from the outside, but from the interior of the common room itself. A pale-branched tree had been planted in the center of the building. Through the floor it grew, reaching from the story below, and up to the ceiling.
Tumblr media
 Thym leaned against the single circular rail that surrounded the open floor and brushed the tree’s flakey bark with their fingertips.  Was this….the tree?  It was, indeed, glorious, but not enough to discount every other specimen of its kind.
 Feeling disappointed, they headed back towards their dorm.  Surely was a more...The type of tree about somewhere.  Basil would show them.
 The brief, nervous thought passed their mind that they were supposed to have stayed with Basil, or otherwise check in with Rosemary.  But then again, they weren’t their prisoner, and the Arcturus crew was easy enough to evade.
 Wait.
 Halfway back to their dorm, a new question prodded at Thym’s mind.  What about the roots? A tree that big would certainly tear apart the foundation of the building it was planted in the center of.  And how was it planted? Was there a massive hole in the floor? The level below this one was a new mystery.
 Cursing their own curiosity, Thym turned and headed back, searching for a staircase.  It’d drive them crazy if they didn’t know. Finding the stairwell, they entered the lower portion of the commons and gasped.  Indeed, part of the floor was excavated and replaced with earth, but there was more. Massive portions of the roots were exposed, clinging to the floor in sprawling networks, the joints of which were filled with more dirt, like little pockets, and planted with ferns and succulents.  A place overtaken by plants, but in the most fantastic of ways… some with hopeful purpose and others natural chaos. The tree had been so seamlessly integrated with the building around it that any fear of one destroying the other left Thym’s mind immediately. They recalled having once seen a perfectly manicured, miniature tree in a pot, its exposed roots as guided and hand-tended as its shapely branches.  This was the same concept, in full size and glory.
Tumblr media
 Finally satisfied, Thym skulked back to their room and put out the candle.
WK1.2 Presenting yourself - Presentation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feedback and discussions from presentation
• It was noted that it was cool to see me wanting to explore or investigate some issue within the realm of the environment as it is something that is close to me and I am very passionate about • Could be cool to explore - Overfishing in the ocean or Micro-plastics in the ocean - how it has recently been found in humans - could be an interesting topic to explore
Areas of strength, weakness and potential development.
• An area of strength was the passion of caring for and using design to create change around the environment and environmental issues • An area of weakness/ challenge was the barrier I had in my mind of already doing plastic pollution in the ocean, and having two past projects which have looked into two major global issues in the ocean. However this was turned into a strength and an area of potential development • Potential development was discusses on continuing personal research, diving deeper into the concept of the ocean, expanding knowledge on the issues and learning new things
Possible conventions and areas of practice • Campaign Design • Branding • Publication Design • Packaging Design
Potential themes that emerged from past experiences. • In the presentation I included some of my past work which included a publication design called 'The Future of Packaging.' The publication is a research led project, and investigates packaging made out of mushrooms as an alternative material to plastic polystyrene. A potential theme which emerged from this past project was sustainability, environment, materiality, conscious design and alternative ways of thinking • In 2021, I designed Branding and Packaging for Twig & Twine which is a eco-friendly kids planter kit. The brief was to create packaging for your mundane everyday household item. The themes which emerged from this past project was: education, connection, environment, material choices, sustainability • In 2020 I was bored in lockdown and wanted to create a precious momento, called 'Stay at home, saves lives' This vector illustration was designed as a gentle reminder, designing for social good. Additionally I also shared my EV Zero Emmissions bus wrap design. Potential themes which are drawn from these experiences are: connection, community, empathy, environment, zero-emissions (reducing footprint)
Topics of interest explored in the past that may unfold into the future project. • Coral Bleaching (campaign design during high school) - could possibly look into deeply into future project • Plastic pollution in the ocean (in my first year of university I did a campaign raising awareness of the global issue of plastic pollution), could possibly evolve into = Microplastics, in ocean - now found in humans • Mushroom packaging - evolve or unfold into looking into other alternative packaging materials • Circular design - product lifecycle
Lecturer feedback
One of the lecturers questioned the idea of packaging and challenging greenwashing - the question posed was packaging of what? And I said I don't know. This was an interesting point, as it made me reflect on this concept,  as I wasn't sure what the packaging would be.
In regards to the ocean idea, the lecturer, Marcos has picked up on how I positioned myself when I first introduced myself to the class on day one. I was born and bred on Waiheke Island where I have lived my whole life. Being surrounded by the ocean everyday has shaped me as the person I am. It is enabled me to have a strong connection to the environment and has  influenced my perspective and approach to design. To design with impact and meaning and to ensure the design decisions I make are feeding the planet, rather than degrading it. Marcos encouraged everyone to choose a concept/theme that you will have pleasure in working with.
Marcos also inspired me by listing multiple design approaches for the ocean concept, as I asked if it was acceptable to be able to do another project on the ocean. Peers and the lecturer both said that it was of course 100% acceptable, as it is my passion. Marcos was inspiring as he mentioned that this will be different to your last projects, as you may come across something that is unexpected, or will find deeper research into other areas and so on,
There are many different approaches to the broad topic of the ocean, could approach it as a publication design with different paper-stocks, colours, textures and showing the beauty of the ocean and why it is important that we care for it or it could be a….
Reflecting on this task, was helpful in gaining insight from peers and lecturers, and even having a discussion about the potential ideas was inspiring.
The ideas I shared included:
- Publication design on Greenwashing
- Packaging design on Greenwashing
- Campaign design on Over-fishing
- Branding and packaging design on a product/brand - circular designed (like helpful hens)
- Publication design on circular design
These are just a few ideas, however I am keen to do more thorough brainstorming, where I will generate ideas, and any thoughts quickly.
Rainwater flows in and out of Danish Pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale
Flowing streams, footbridges, leaks and water pipes all lead visitors through the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in an exhibition that explores the circularity of water.
Architecture studio Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects and curator Marianne Krogh created the installation, titled Con-nect-ed-ness, using a cyclic rainwater system.
Top: the Danish Pavilion was designed by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects. Above: PVC pipes connect to a reservoir. Photo is by Luca Delise
Pipes collect rainwater from the outside and lead it on a closed-loop journey through the exhibition.
"The Biennale's overriding theme, 'How will we live together?' has inspired us to focus on the concept of connectedness," Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects told Dezeen.
"Taking water as the physical element that connects all life on Earth as our point of departure, we're creating a spatial architectural exhibition where water is experienced in tamed, processed and boundless states."
A wooden footbridge marks the entrance to the pavilion
"Water is invited in, staged, sensed and then flows out of the pavilion again," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"While exploring the various spaces of the exhibition, visitors can become part of the cyclic system by drinking a cup of tea brewed with leaves from the herbal plants that absorb water from the cyclic system."
Visitors are led around the space by the PVC pipes
A reservoir containing collected rainwater is the source of the installation's water and connected to its interior via an exposed pipe that guides visitors through the pavilion.
To enter the exhibition, visitors must walk past the reservoir and follow a narrow wooden ramp that leads to the pavilion entrance.
A saturated sheet drips onto the floor
Once inside, visitors follow the pipe and a stream of water on the floor to a cubic room where a white sheet is suspended across the ceiling.
The exposed pipe crosses the hanging sheet and leaks onto it, saturating the fabric until water drips from the sheet into a flowing channel below.
Water flows in and out of the space
Visitors are guided by the pipe and stream to a semi-outdoor space, where the pipe waters a series of elevated planters.
A host stationed at the area serves herbal tea from the plants to display water as a stimulating, nourishing element.
"The function of water as a life-giving element is on full display here, not just for the growing herbs, but also for the visitors who drink the water and carry it with them out into the world," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"In this sense visitors expand the exhibition’s circuit beyond the physical boundaries of the pavilion."
A host brews tea made from plants grown using the collected rainwater
The final room is a large flooded hall that the water from the pipe flows into, creating a miniature waterfall.
A pine platform that floats above the body of water has a footbridge-like quality that draws visitors into the space.
PVC pipes water and nourish the growing plants
"A passage between the platforms is possible via narrow footbridges where visitors must yield to each other," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"The physical constraints create relations where people become aware of each other and exhibit generosity – thereby manifesting connectedness."
A flooded room contains seating where visitors can sit
"The proportions and the light of the individual spaces in the pavilion helped us figure out how the water should be exposed," explained Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"You could say that the spaces emphasize the water circuit and vice versa."
Throughout the space water leaves the building via the floor stream, flowing back into the reservoir to start the cycle over again.
The water pipe flows into the flooded room
The exhibition is accompanied by a book by Marianne Krogh that documents the state of the planet under the topic of How do we live together? And who are we when we are not only humans but also nature?
Other works by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects include this cylindrical school in Denmark that is clad in perforated metal and this tile-clad building that shelters medieval ruins.
Photography is by Hampus Berndtson unless otherwise stated.
Con-nect-ed-ness will be on display at the Giardini as part of The Venice Architecture Biennale, which takes place from 22 May to 21 November 2021. See Dezeen Events Guide for all the latest information you need to know to attend the event, as well as a list of other architecture and design events taking place around the world.
Top 10 Tips While Designing a Garden
If you like landscaping, you have probably ever wondered how to design a garden, since a good outdoor space provides multiple satisfaction to its owners but if, in addition, we add the pride of having designed it ourselves, the motivation is even greater.
Surely you have searched on Google, Facebook or Instagram on many occasions for inspiring images from blogs and landscaping websites, dreaming of one day having the garden of your dreams, full of beautiful plants and design corners. Nowadays it is very easy to get information on the net and be up to date on trends, so I encourage you to start like this, looking at outstanding works to take note of what you like.
I do not mean by this that you have to dedicate yourself to copying designs from others, far from it. It's about taking perspective, getting inspired, but never plagiarizing. The truth is that, as in any discipline, it is important to know the terrain in which we want to move and see what others have done to open our eyes and facilitate learning.
There are many styles and ways to approach design even more, so the first thing you should ask yourself is what kind of garden do I want? From there, other questions will come to be solved, such as what do I want it for? Or for whom? Well, how we are going to make use of that outer space should determine the way we design it. If you are looking for an excellent garden designer in Wimbledon or South West London, look no further than JustinGreer.
1.- ANALYZE THE SPACE TO DESIGN AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Take good note of the geometry of the site, the topography or unevenness, as well as all those existing elements that may condition your design, such as pipes for underground installations or foundations for adjoining walls.
If there are trees or shrubs that are to be maintained, it will be necessary to catalogue them and know their exact location, to incorporate them into the plan that we make in the place that corresponds to them. Do not forget to measure approximately the diameter to avoid interference with the new elements that you incorporate with your design.
This step is very important, since a good data collection and efficient design can be obtained, avoiding unforeseen events at the time of execution.
2.- ORGANIZE THE SPACE BY USES, STAYS AND AREAS OF INTEREST
Now is the time to start the design. The dreaded blank paper will make us paralyzed if we are not fluent enough in the matter. Peace of mind, everything is a matter of dedication and implementing one of the most important design guidelines: Organize the space.
Let's forget about the varieties of plants for the moment, let's focus first on configuring the different areas that we will need.
Think about how you are going to use that garden. Are there children in the house? Do you have pets? Do you like to have a reading space in the shade? Is there a swimming pool or is there planned? Are you going to want to have a garden? Do you need to hide views? Do you want to have special views of the garden from specific points inside the house? ... All these and many more will be the questions that you must ask yourself and that will give you the keys to organize the exteriors.
3.- DEFINE THE TRAILS AND TRANSITION SPACES
As important as defining the areas well is to draw coherent paths and transition spaces.
Remember that for a garden to "work" it must be easy to use and, for this, the paths that connect areas must be operational.
Regarding this question, we can be given as many cases as we undertake designs, but we could say as a general rule that we avoid having to make detours to get from one place to another and that we provide the routes with steps, footbridges or auxiliary paths when necessary.
Sometimes it is interesting that the routes that communicate zones are configured in such a way that from the starting point, the next area where we go is not completely gone. This does not mean that the paths take detours, but that we know how to interpose strategic elements that only allow us to see where we are going, to create a feeling of discovery at each step we take through the garden.
4.- DECIDE WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE AND WHAT YOU WANT TO HIDE
I already anticipated it at the beginning of this post. There will be views that we have to hide and others should be used.
Think of solutions that are not just hedges; there are more things. Half-height wooden walls, compositions of shrubs with enough density and height to hide something, constructions such as a Chill-out, which could be a meeting place but which, in addition, will hide behind the barbecue or irrigation facilities.
It is very useful to have a place in the garden to store outdoor furniture in winter, without taking up space inside the house. Take advantage of those chill-out backs, for example, to create a closet in the garden. It will also help you to organize your gardening tools and supplies.
5.- DESIGN AND DEFINE THE CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS OF THE GARDEN
It is important to define the details when we already begin to advance the design.
Obviously, for an amateur who is faced with his first design, it will be difficult to face this point, since a more professional level is needed for it. But try it and, as far as possible, make details of encounters, constructive solutions and auctions.
The higher the definition, the less unforeseen events during assembly.
For example, if you are building a new brick or stone planters attached to an existing wall, provide steel connectors to prevent cracks.
6.- CONFIGURE A GOOD DRAINAGE SYSTEM FOR WATER COLLECTION
Collecting the water, both from rain and from excess irrigation, is a must in a well-designed garden.
You must design a good drainage system if you do not want to have flooded areas and dead plants due to excess water.
7.- CHOOSE THE VEGETABLE SPECIES AND TAKE INTO ACCOUNT DIFFERENT CRITERIA
Now is the time to choose the plants for the garden. By the way, haven't we talked about them up to point 7? Well, no. Contrary to what many people think, plant selection is not the first thing to do in a garden. Take a look at the number of concepts we've covered before getting here.
It happens very often to me that when I visit a client for the first time, he asks me again and again what variety of plant I would put here or there while we walk through the garden that needs to be remodelled. I always try to convey that this is something that I cannot know in the first visit because it depends on many solutions and previous configurations that I must analyze and decide.
8.- DEFINE THE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS
An irrigation system is somewhat more complex to do if you do not have knowledge of the matter. Perhaps for this part of the design you need to have a specialist, but if you dare with it, at least do not forget these simple guidelines:
1.- Make different sectors and control them with an irrigation control unit so that they do not all jump at the same time. This way you will avoid running out of flow or pressure and that the irrigation does not work properly.
2.- Try to use drip pipes with self-compensating drippers or, if not, make closed circuits (circular) so that there is the same pressure throughout the pipe.
3.- Trace well on the plane the sweeps of the sprinklers or spray irrigation diffusers, so that no corner is left without water.
4.- Carry out pressure and water flow test before designing the irrigation system, to know if it is necessary to increase the pressure (installing a pump) or if not, install a pressure reducer, know the general operation of pipes distribution, sprinklers and drippers ...
9.- SELECT APPROPRIATE EXTERIOR FURNITURE AND DECORATION
Look at many examples, have fun looking for decoration on the Internet, there are thousands of beautiful accessories for the garden.
Think that the balance is in designing with plants and furniture at the same time. Armchairs, design pots, puffs or other elements are as important as plants, so define them from the beginning in the project and do not think "we will put something in". You must be clear that in that reading corner you will place a seat make and model "such".
10.- CONVENIENTLY LIGHT UP EACH AREA
We cannot think of a good garden if it is not properly lit at dusk/night.
Correct lighting will facilitate night time use and transform the garden into a space full of theatricality.
Combine path lighting with room lighting. In addition, it strategically places adjustable floor projectors illuminating the treetops; you will see how the result is spectacular. Of course, just choose the odd tree, in a corner, at a point of passage... do not overload the environment and get the chosen ones to become true protagonists.
Use led technology and try to use warm light. Unlike inside the home, where white light is used, in gardening the use of yellow light is more welcoming.
In the living areas, choose a furnished corner to place a decorative outdoor design lamp. There are many spectacular ones on the market.
This brilliant hydroponic system puts a whole garden on your countertop
youtube
Australian Toby Farmer, who founded Bace in 2018, refined the principles of rotary hydroponics for Rotofarm, which he calls the “easiest-to-use and most automated planter in the world”.
By Mark Wilson Fast Company Aug 19, 2019
Excerpt:
The Rotofarm, by an Australian company called Bace (which appears to have produced skincare products in a past life), is a space-friendly hydroponic system, and it doubles as a beautiful sculpture in your home. With a circular design, which rotates plants like a Ferris wheel through the day, the Rotofarm is able to fit nearly five feet of growing area inside a countertop footprint of just 11 inches. Water is dispersed through the nutrient and water reservoir in the stainless steel base, and a bright LED grow light lives in the middle like a tiny sun. Then to harvest, you can tilt the farm 180-degrees and pull off its clear cover. You take what you want (kale, mint, lettuce, spinach, or, yes, marijuana), and close it back up.
Of course, you might be wondering, will it work? Can you grow plants upside down? In fact, you can. NASA has discovered that root systems understand how to grow just fine in zero gravity. Meanwhile, existing rotary systems like the Omega Garden contend that moments of flipped gravity can actually help plants grow and flower, but you wouldn’t want the Omega Garden’s giant drums in your apartment. “The rotary design has been around in agriculture for a while, but these are things that take up a whole room with giant troughs of water underneath,” says Bace’s founder Toby Farmer (yes, his name is “farmer”). “Rotofarm is the first concept that really belongs inside the home.”
Rainwater flows in and out of Danish Pavilion at Venice Architecture Biennale
Flowing streams, footbridges, leaks and water pipes all lead visitors through the Danish Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale in an exhibition that explores the circularity of water.
Architecture studio Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects and curator Marianne Krogh created the installation, titled Con-nect-ed-ness, using a cyclic rainwater system.
Top: the Danish Pavilion was designed by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects. Above: PVC pipes connect to a reservoir. Photo is by Luca Delise
Pipes collect rainwater from the outside and lead it on a closed-loop journey through the exhibition.
"The Biennale's overriding theme, 'How will we live together?' has inspired us to focus on the concept of connectedness," Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects told Dezeen.
"Taking water as the physical element that connects all life on Earth as our point of departure, we're creating a spatial architectural exhibition where water is experienced in tamed, processed and boundless states."
A wooden footbridge marks the entrance to the pavilion
"Water is invited in, staged, sensed and then flows out of the pavilion again," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"While exploring the various spaces of the exhibition, visitors can become part of the cyclic system by drinking a cup of tea brewed with leaves from the herbal plants that absorb water from the cyclic system."
Visitors are led around the space by the PVC pipes
A reservoir containing collected rainwater is the source of the installation's water and connected to its interior via an exposed pipe that guides visitors through the pavilion.
To enter the exhibition, visitors must walk past the reservoir and follow a narrow wooden ramp that leads to the pavilion entrance.
A saturated sheet drips onto the floor
Once inside, visitors follow the pipe and a stream of water on the floor to a cubic room where a white sheet is suspended across the ceiling.
The exposed pipe crosses the hanging sheet and leaks onto it, saturating the fabric until water drips from the sheet into a flowing channel below.
Water flows in and out of the space
Visitors are guided by the pipe and stream to a semi-outdoor space, where the pipe waters a series of elevated planters.
A host stationed at the area serves herbal tea from the plants to display water as a stimulating, nourishing element.
"The function of water as a life-giving element is on full display here, not just for the growing herbs, but also for the visitors who drink the water and carry it with them out into the world," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"In this sense visitors expand the exhibition’s circuit beyond the physical boundaries of the pavilion."
A host brews tea made from plants grown using the collected rainwater
The final room is a large flooded hall that the water from the pipe flows into, creating a miniature waterfall.
A pine platform that floats above the body of water has a footbridge-like quality that draws visitors into the space.
PVC pipes water and nourish the growing plants
"A passage between the platforms is possible via narrow footbridges where visitors must yield to each other," said Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"The physical constraints create relations where people become aware of each other and exhibit generosity – thereby manifesting connectedness."
A flooded room contains seating where visitors can sit
"The proportions and the light of the individual spaces in the pavilion helped us figure out how the water should be exposed," explained Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects.
"You could say that the spaces emphasize the water circuit and vice versa."
Throughout the space water leaves the building via the floor stream, flowing back into the reservoir to start the cycle over again.
The water pipe flows into the flooded room
The exhibition is accompanied by a book by Marianne Krogh that documents the state of the planet under the topic of How do we live together? And who are we when we are not only humans but also nature?
Other works by Lundgaard & Tranberg Architects include this cylindrical school in Denmark that is clad in perforated metal and this tile-clad building that shelters medieval ruins.
Photography is by Hampus Berndtson unless otherwise stated.
Con-nect-ed-ness will be on display at the Giardini as part of The Venice Architecture Biennale, which takes place from 22 May to 21 November 2021. See Dezeen Events Guide for all the latest information you need to know to attend the event, as well as a list of other architecture and design events taking place around the world.
