i know i'm not seeing people say mclaren winning constructors was "undeserved".

was them making a good car after years of having a shit one undeserved? that's something they did on their own.

was them having lando since 2019 who fucking carried that team undeserved? no not at all, lando chose to stay there, and look where that got him after so many years.

i can't think of one team that deserves this more than papaya. and as much as i shit talk mclaren, i love them to the deepest part of my soul. (not you st*lla, never you st*lla)

and how can hard work be undeserved? how can hours of team members putting the work in be undeserved? something isn't deserved, it is worked for. and mclaren more than did that, and after so long being a bad team, how can this be anything but amazing? so please show some good sportsmanship and shut up.

instead of complaining look back at this historic season. everyone had a chance to be happy this season, don't take away from that.

Both is good! We'll start with songs in no particular order:

Equlibrium (Sophia's theme) One of my first favorites! I used to listen to it so much I still remember most of the lyrics by heart haha.

A Long Fall (Twinning theme) I mean, who doesn't love the party dungeon song?

Unbreakable (Fractal Continuum theme) and by extension, Order yet undeciphered (Azys Lla theme). I'm cheating and putting these out together since Unbreakable has Order yet undeciphered's leitmotif in it.

Neath Dark Waters (Amaurot overworld theme) I'm weak for that leitmotif and this one is my favorite one of the different versions.

Last one uhhhhhhh Close in the Distance. Very closely tied with Flow Together, but this was the song I liked so much that I speedran Ultima Thule fates in like two days so I could have the song playing in our house.

Then, top 5 memories. Hmm, this'll require some thinking because my memory is swiss cheese and things just fall out of there if I rattle my head around too much.

First one that comes to mind is our first run of Gubal. Our group (whm, drg and dnc) rolls in with sprouts on and all of us in cutscene. When we got out of cutscene it turned out that the tank was also finnish and declared that she "must protecc" us after asking if we were all first timers. She proceeded to be one of the best tanks I've had a plesure to heal, gave us helpful tips about mechanics and /doted all of us before leaving.

This is gonna sound a little funny but Moonfire Faire. We started playing during the 2019 one, and while we never made it to the event itself (too low level, rip), the memory of seeing the fireworks on Gridania (both on sky and a group of peeps spamming the items next to conjurer's guild haha) while doing our very first quests left a very deep mark on me. I still get really nostalgic every time the fireworks come back~

Figuring out how to do Omega unsynced with only 3 people (so we can farm by ourselves). Mostly blind, we only looked at guides after hitting mechanics we could not figure out. Up until like the last runs we kept forgetting the Omega F knockback (too focused on random chatter), or the exploding debuffs. The 10+ runs we had to do to figure out timing for tank invulns when M & F start dashing around. One of us leveling tank just for that fight (and turns out they like tanking now lol), one having to finish leveling pld bc gnb shooting themselves did not go too well when you have to have hp for the tankbusters after the invuln ends.

Endwalker boss fate farming. Sitting there for hours, getting progressively more tired and unhinged with couple hundred other people as we were so sure that yeah next hour Chi or Daivadipa would spawn. Surely next hour. It's already been 8h over the spawn timer cooldown it MUST spawn soon... right? Right??

Baby's first on launch alliance raid, Puppet's Bunker! I was so nervous haha, first time patch day alliance raid on healer? Scawwyyy. We died soooooo much lol but it was such a blast. People figuring out you could shoot eachother with the lasers, the constant "ohhhhh so that's what that does" in chat, the collective "what the fuck yoko taro?" during second phase of last boss. Now my absolute favorite content in this game is doing alliance raids right after patch so all 24 of us can be equally confused about stuff and just chill dead on the ground together.

Negacionismo político en Argentina

A nivel político, los discursos negacionistas del genocidio durante la dictadura cívico-militar (1976-1983) han convivido con la democracia. Se habla de «guerra sucia», de «enfrentamientos», de «guerra contra el terrorismo» y de la teoría de los dos demonios para evitar hablar de terrorismo de Estado. A pesar del Juicio a la Juntas, donde se probaron las violaciones de derechos humanos y el informe de la CONADEP, sectores conservadores siguen negando el genocidio. La forma de hacerlo es decir que «no son 30.000» las personas desaparecidas sino una cifra menor. La cifra 30.000 surge de un acuerdo de organizaciones de derechos humanos a partir de la imposibilidad de seguir registrando y encontrando a quienes desaparecieron y asesinaron los militares. Durante el gobierno de Carlos Menem se indultó a los militares, y durante el gobierno de Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) este discurso tomó fuerza con los dichos de Darío Lopérfido (Secretario de Medios y Cultura) y del propio presidente de la Nación al poner en duda la cifra de desaparecidos y hablar del «curro de los derechos humanos». Estas declaraciones y posturas tuvieron repercusiones políticas concretas con el desmantelamiento de organismos estatales vinculados a la memoria y los derechos humanos.

2023, negacionismo recargado

Durante este año electoral, con el protagonismo del partido de ultraderecha La Libertad Avanza (LLA) los discursos negacionistas tomaron la delantera. El candidato a presidente Javier Milei ha negado varias veces el cambio climático, también el coronavirus, pero sobre todo su candidata a vicepresidenta, Victoria Villarruel, niega sistemáticamente el genocidio durante la dictadura. Villarruel  creó y preside el Centro de Estudios Legales sobre el Terrorismo y sus Víctimas (CELTyV). Además, la actual diputada y candidata a la vicepresidencia proviene de familia militar. Un proyecto de ley para penar los discursos negacionistas

La primera semana de noviembre, la Secretaría de Derechos Humanos y organismos de derechos humanos presentaron dos proyectos de ley que buscan frenar la circulación de discursos negacionistas sobre la última dictadura y otros crímenes de lesa humanidad. Las iniciativas se sumaron a otras propuestas similares que la Comisión de Derechos Humanos de la Cámara de Diputados comenzó a debatir a fines de octubre. Las dos propuestas buscan modificar el Código Penal para sancionar a funcionarios públicos y candidatos con penas administrativas y no de prisión. Adûnakali had found herself shunted sideways into her university's history department, and there she gathered dust, teaching Quenya to small classes of unenthusiastic students. But one winter, something interesting fell into her hands.

General Prompt: Fanwork Outside the Box

Today’s general prompt is a little more meta than most in that it encourages you to experiment - create a fanwork that’s different from your usual output! If you’re an artist, why not try a 100-word drabble for a change? Writers, how about a fanmix instead of a fic? Go for digital art instead of traditional (or vice versa), make an edit with a new-to-you fancast, try blackout poetry instead of your regular style, create something about a female character you’ve never considered before, write femslash instead of gen - shake things up! As long as it’s about a female Legendarium character, it counts!

Terror Time 2022! Day 1:

Happy October! Like a lot of you, I’m watching at least one horror movie each day this month leading up to Halloween! But this year, I want share my thoughts on each film I watch here, whether I’ve just seen them for the first time or films I wished to revisit and want to reflect how my thoughts change. 

These aren’t really reviews, so much as what I take away from each film; deep thoughts or shallow exclamations, good or bad. Depends on the film. This isn’t me speaking the gospel, so much as letting my thoughts out. With that I’ll start with..

Lla LLorona (2019)

This Guatemalan film is an unconventional choice to start this year’s annual Halloween Movie marathon for me. This has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, so much as the tone. I mean, our main characters are essentially a war criminal former dictator and his family, and they make that very clear especially at the beginning and the end. With his past crimes, either described by a witness or shown in flashback, proving to so disturbing that the vengeful ghosts are downright comforting by comparison.

But I guess that’s the point, isn’t it? The common perception of the Lla Llorona figure, at least as far as my limited understanding of Latin America ghost stories is concerned, is that she is the ghost of the woman weeping after having drowned her own children. This is not supposed to be that exact ghost. Or it’s at least a variation unique to the film. I won’t spoil how it’s different or precisely why she’s haunting our main characters (Even if you can guess), other then the ghost itself is portrayed more subtly in physical appearance then one can be used to. So if you’re looking for the classic white ghost aesthetic, look somewhere else.

But what’s compelling is how our her and our protagonist, Enrique Monteverde, feel black and white, but in a way that runs counter in most ghost horror movies I’ve seen from Hollywood in the past ten years, even though that’s probably a generalization. I’ve seen this theme of “Fantastical horrors being not as bad as the ones created from war and man that benefit from it” in other works by Latin American filmmakers (Guillermo Del Toro’s “The Devil’s Backbone” and “Pan’s Labyrinth” and to a lesser extent, Issa Lopez’s “Tigers are not Afraid”). And it’s still one I’m not tired of seeing.

It’s in setups like this that remind me why, in times like these where everything feels like is going wrong, that Horror is very comforting, even though it’s a genre designed at it’s core, to be as uncomfortable as possible. 

When put together side by side, the reason I feel a monster that comes from the genre is more captivating and able to gain our sympathy then a monster from reality is that the former has rules it obeys. Whether their intentions are actually understanding or they’re just gleefully sadistic, they still operate by a set of rules (”This is what it wants” or “This is how you kill it” or “This is how you run from it”). Whether good or evil, you can respect something that follows through on what’s stated it can and will do. Sure, you can break down the hypocrisies in that for a human character, but most horror villains are either not human or seek to leave their humanity behind. Which, ironically, makes it easier to give it the benefit of the doubt and judge them as less evil. They know what they are.

It’s why, for the past few years, I find it easier to like intentionally transparently evil villains rather then the ones who keep trying to make excuses or reasons, like Monteverde. And when he, a very human villain in all the worst ways, is up against something that last left it’s humanity behind, and in doing so has become part of nature in a way, he is overwhelmed. And we aren’t seeing poor victims being bullied by something pure evil for no reason, like in what feels like every single Conjuring movie. We’re seeing an amoral transgressor bump up into the consequences of his action in a form he can’t bribe, lie, murder his way out of. The horrors of the mundane making way for the horrors of the fantastic.

In hindsight, actually a very good place to start this marathon.

And that’s what I thought. This is the first thing I wrote at this length in a very long time so I’m sorry if it’s rough, pretentious, condescending or anything like that. If you want to share a few thoughts on another film, I’ll write a small post, that is if I’ve seen it. If you want to know what other types of media I’ve consumed or are consuming to celebrate this time of year, just ask. Sometime, in the next few days, I’ll write about the next film I saw...

139. Michael Jackson les mostraba a los niños la película “el exorcista”

Jordan Chandler le dijo a su terapeuta en 1993 que la primera vez que compartió una cama con Michael Jackson fue porque él le había mostrado la película el exorcista, después de que su hermana y su madre se habían ido a dormir. Jordán quedo tan asustado que acepto la invitación de Jackson de dormir con él. Dijo que esa vez no pasó nada, ya que el primer contacto sexual fue más tarde en otra ocasión, pero Michael Jackson ya le estaba acostumbrando a dormir con él.

"¿Qué pasó esa noche?"

“Después de que mi mamá y Kelly se fueron a dormir, fuimos a ver la película El exorcista. Estábamos en su habitación, en su cama. Y cuando terminó me asusté, y él dijo, ¿por qué no te quedas aquí? Y lo hice y no pasó nada”.

"Cuando dices que te quedaste en la habitación - -"

“Me quedé en la misma cama”.

"¿Dormiste en la misma cama?"

"Así es."

“¿Cuándo dormiste en la misma cama, hubo algún contacto físico?”

"No."

"¿Era una cama grande?"

"Sí, eso creo."

“Así que no hubo contacto físico. ¿Cuáles fueron tus pensamientos cuando dijo que durmamos en la misma cama?

“Bueno, estaba asustado y no pensé que iba a pasar nada”.

"¿Tenías miedo de él o miedo de la película?"

"La película. Así que dije: 'Está bien, está bien'. Era como una pijamada normal”.

"Está bien, ¿hay algo más que decir sobre ese evento?"

“Simplemente hablamos de cómo se les ocurrió la idea de El exorcista. Así que, a la mañana siguiente, estaba solo con mi mamá y…

¿Sabía tu madre que te habías acostado con él en la cama?”

“Bueno, estoy llegando a eso. Dije: ‘Me acosté con Michael en la misma cama anoche’, y ella dijo: ‘Bueno, simplemente no lo vuelvas a hacer’”.

Taj Jackson corroboró indirectamente esta historia porque también dijo en una entrevista que en las pijamadas, Michael pondría el exorcista.

De su entrevista a Billboard en 2019:

En el documental Viviendo con Michael Jackson, Martin Bashir le preguntó a Michael si pensaba que había algo malo en acostarse con niños pequeños. Él respondió: "Lo más amoroso que puedes hacer es compartir tu cama con alguien". ¿Qué opinas de su declaración?

Taj Jackson: Macaulay Culkin lo dijo mejor: "Michael nunca fue bueno para explicarse". Es una de las cosas más difíciles que he visto porque sé lo que quiso decir mi tío. Es muy frustrante para mí porque es inofensivo. Yo participaría en estas pijamadas divertidas o veríamos películas como El exorcista en su cama con mis hermanos y cosas así. El problema con Michael es que siempre lo hizo sonar peor de lo que era. Incluso en Hayvenhurst, no había sofá, así que nos relajábamos y veíamos películas en su cama. Creo que lo que termina sucediendo es que las personas escuchan la palabra "cama" y piensan que es sexual. Es como "compartir cama" convertido en "dormir con niños". No es el caso en absoluto.

@tajjackson3 Mi tío Michael también me introdujo en las películas de terror. Vi por primera vez El Exorcista con él. Estaba aterrorizado, pero me encantó cada minuto.

¿Por qué una película como El Exorcista sería apropiada para mostrar a los niños? Dejando de lado el contenido de horror, hay contenido sexual en esta película: hay una escena grafica de simulación de masturbación de una niña con un crucifijo(mientras grita “¡deja que Jesús te folle!”) y se muestra el pene erecto de una estatua, entre otras cosas. También hay lenguaje violento y sexual, dicho por la niña mientras esta poseída para tentar a los curas que le están haciendo el exorcismo: “¡Foll*me!”, "¡Tu madre chupa p*llas en el infierno!" o "¡¡Métele la p*lla por el culo, hijo de p*ta, soplap*llas!!" (visitar la pagina de IMDB para ver que otro contenido se considera inapropiado).

Además de asustarlos para acostumbrarlos a dormir con él, esto demuestra cómo Michael Jackson podía mostrar contenido inapropiado a los niños (sus acusadores han dicho que les mostro pornografía). Y eso es solo la punta del iceberg, pero ese es otro tema.

Hay muchas personas que vieron al exorcista cuando eran niños, ese no es el punto, el punto es que no es apropiado que un adulto les muestre este contenido, especialmente si ese hombre dice ser tan bueno, inocente y puro, y especialmente si hay contenido sexual de por medio. El hecho de que MJ la mostrara más de una vez, significa que conocía muy bien la película para saber qué tipo de escenas tenía.
