As pediatric dentists, we cannot stress enough the importance of early and consistent oral health care for infants.
The foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles is laid during these crucial early years. Parents, caregivers, and healthcare providers must work together to ensure optimal oral hygiene for infants. Firstly, clean your baby's gums with a soft, damp cloth after feedings, even before teeth emerge. Once teeth start to appear, usually around six months, transition to a soft-bristle infant toothbrush. Using low Fluoride toothpaste in beginning in a rice size amount, or better still, with the help of Pediatric dentist, you may start with 1000 ppm fluoride toothpaste to set the right foundation of early oral hygiene habits.

I was like... WHOA. Do you even know who I am? Routine use of episiotomies is now pretty widely considered a form of obstetric violence. It doesn't serve a medical purpose and it causes physical (and often emotional) harm to the birthing person. So, no, I did not put an #episiotomy on my #birthplan. Also- even as an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, veteran labor and delivery nurse, and lactation consultant, people STILL feel the need to give me pregnancy-related advice. Why, when my entire job revolves around giving other people advice that's actually evidence-based and medically appropriate, I have no idea. But to all of the pregnant folks reading this right now: Whatever ridiculous, fear-inducing, medically inaccurate advice is thrown at you today, you have full permission to walk away, tell them off, gently correct them, or otherwise do whatever's necessary to protect your own peace of mind. ✌

Here are reasons to be careful and it’s not recommended you top up your baby with a bottle with either breast milk or formula. 🤱Baby is unsettled. Remember crying unsettled babies are are not necessarily hungry babies. 🤱You no longer feel full. Yes your breasts become soft but that is due to your hormones regulating due to those supply regulating hormones. 🤱Babies feeding more frequently could be due to tiredness, growth spurts or they’ve got used to snacking. 🤱Taking top ups after feeds. Many babies will take more milk especially under the age of 8-12 weeks due to their involuntary sucking reflex. 🤱Confusion around your baby’s cues. Remember hunger, tiredness, discomfort cues are all exactly the same. 🤱You are second guessing yourself. STOP IT 😊🙏 Once you start topping up, it’s harder to stop. Your baby can become lazy at breastfeeding. Sucking on the breast to extract milk, takes more effort than a bottle. They become more accustomed to bottle feeding and before you know it your breastfeeding days are over. Top ups are very different than offering a full bottle at one feed so that your baby can get used to a bottle when you need to go out or just want someone else to do night feeds. Want to know more or having challenges around feeding and sleep then get in contact and let’s work together. While breastfeeding provides endless benefits for your baby and yourself, the journey is not always smooth and easy, especially if you are a first-time mum. If you are struggling with breastfeeding to the point you want to give up breastfeeding completely, you are not alone. There are many mothers who are in the same boat as you, so please do not feel guilty or think you could do better. Your body is already doing a lot beyond its capabilities by growing your child, giving birth to them, and nurturing them along the way – so let yourself enjoy a break.

General anesthesia in pediatric dentistry involves the use of medications to induce a state of deep sleep in children during dental procedures.
Tumblr media
This approach is usually reserved for cases where a child cannot tolerate traditional treatments due to age, anxiety, special needs, or the complexity of the procedure. The process begins with a thorough preoperative assessment, including the child's medical history, physical examination, and any relevant laboratory tests. An anesthesiologist administers the anesthesia in a controlled environment, closely monitoring the child's vital signs throughout the procedure. Parents or guardians play a crucial role in the decision-making process, as they need to be well-informed about the benefits, risks, and alternatives to general anesthesia. Pediatric dentists at Tooth Tales work closely with anesthesiologists to create a safe and effective treatment plan tailored to each child's specific needs, ultimately aiming to provide optimal oral health outcomes while prioritizing the child's well-being and comfort.

Repost @thepeoplesmidwife ・・・ H/T @healthiest_baby 💯 Don’t let your moms and grandmas tell you that giving your baby attention will “spoil” them! That’s emotional trauma talking. Pick up, hold, kiss, love on your baby ❤️ Let’s raise emotionally secure humans. ・・・ A newborn isn’t manipulative. They cry because they need you. Our job as parents is to listen to our instincts and feed, comfort, and love the little guy as needed. ⁣ ⁣ When you respond to your baby’s cries, he learns, “this place is awesome!”⁣ ⁣ Believe it or not, picking up your baby when he cries, leads to independence. Why? Because when you meet your baby’s needs, she develops a sense of security and confidence, which in turn leads to independence ⁣ ⁣ As your baby gets older, crying will not always be because she needs you. She’ll have wants, “I want your glasses.” “I want your hot coffee.” … and that’s when you’ll need to set limits and teach your baby… “I love you, but No. “You can’t have my glasses, the knife, the hot coffee.”⁣ ⁣ 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙣𝙤𝙬, 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙖 𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙣, 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚. ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ 🐥⁣ If you need some newborn tips, I have a guide that addresses common newborn worries. Two of my favorite things: 1️⃣. Knitting 2️⃣. Books that empower parents to make truly informed decisions for themselves and their babies. If you're pregnant, you've probably heard of #breastisbest and #fedisbest. One slogan touts the scientific benefits of exclusive breastmilk feeding. The other arose as a way to justify formula feeding or partial breastmilk feeding. Maybe you've also heard the phrase, "All that matters is a healthy baby." Sound like gaslighting to you? It certainly does to me. A healthy, adequately fed baby is the BARE MINIMUM of what parents should be hoping for. Empowering, optimal birth/postpartum/breast/chestfeeding experiences are what families actually deserve. We have to stop patting disappointed, traumatized new parents on the backs and saying, "Well, at least the baby is alive. Be grateful for that." We can do so much better. #informedisbest is a much more truthful, kind, and trauma-informed slogan to use when it comes to infant feeding and parenthood in general. Not everyone will be able to have a vaginal birth or be able to exclusively breast/chestfeed. Heck, not everyone has to want these things. They aren't for everyone. THAT'S A-OK, folks. Regardless, everyone has the right to all of the truly evidence-based information, appropriate healthcare, and genuine support that the world has to offer them. #informedisbest is written by @prof_amybrown, whose books focus primarily on kind and evidence-based infant feeding practices. This book doesn't give advice but instead focuses on how to read and interpret research, spot biases and untrustworthy research, filter through bad advice and social media misinformation, and how to ultimately make the best decisions for yourself, your baby, and your family. The info in this book is very applicable to everything pregnancy, birth, and parenting. I highly recommend it to my lactation consultation clients and my childbirth education students.

Let's be honest, is there any mother out there who gets excited about cleaning pee puddles off the toilet floor for the 10th time in a day? 👉Did any among us sign up to spend our lives making lunch boxes and picking up Lego? 👉When we aspired to motherhood, did we get excited about being 'housewives' at the same time? 👉Um, no. Not this mama, anyhow. love being a mother and I wouldn't swap it for theworld. But when it comes to the repetitive same drudge of household chores and food preparation? That could really demotivate some people. ✔Know that, If you're having a hard day, you're not failing, being a mom is extremely hard. ✔It's okay to rest. It's important to slow down. It's ok to have hard days. And one day you will look back and think its all gonna be worth it #newbornbaby #pregnancyeducation #lactationconsultant #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingmoms #healthypregnancy #pregnancyblog #firsttimemommny #6monthspregnant #newborn #newmommy #newmama #mumandbaby #pregnant #babymama #momproblems101 #mothering #firstbaby #infants #postpartumsupport #healthymama #newbornboy #4mumy #4mumymother https://www.instagram.com/p/CS42r0eKowk/?utm_medium=tumblr
