Oh man. Snap, idk if you saw issue #5 of rogue: the savage land. BUt apparently magneto's powers have been wonky for this entire miniseries because rogue is "a being of pure empathy" and being around her "infects" him. Before, magneto was just a cold-hearted killer who never felt any remorse for his actions, but now that he sees rogue caring about other people, he's "questioning all that he is." She infected him with empathy, so being around her messes up his powers.

I can't. Like... WHAT. I am so glad this is the last issue of this stupid shit. Thank god I don't have to read this anymore

I love this comparison and I feel intrinsically that it is accurate, and yet, despite having spent the last 7 or so years looking at this wallchart every single day (it lives in my bathroom), I still have never seen a tomato that made me think, “Huh! YOU ABSOLUTELY MAY feel free to specify anything later if you’d meant to ask something afterwards but since there’s no specification here I’m just gonna go off on a bit of a ramble…about something I’ve been thinking a lot about more recently…

I haven’t really talked much about the whole relationship between Doleon, Supreme and the Shards of Chaos have I. Well let’s do that now

(Rant warning ahead lmao)

So as I’ve said before, Supreme was the god  that created Doleon and all his brothers, dividing each of the seven Shards of Chaos between them in an attempt to prevent them from corrupting anyone or anything further (and possibly repeating the cycle with someone new after they died.) Ironic, seeing as they’re the god of devastation and corruption. 

Essentially, they wanted to figure out some kind of balance to keep them at bay and. This was what they had thought up, after seeing the complex lifeforms in other universes…the ones that intrigued them so. The god of devastation had created something. Surely this will have no faults or consequences.

Even with little to no memory of the Supreme themself after the brothers were sent to this odd floating land (The Dome™️,) they were aware that there was some sort of divine being involved in their existence. One that had laid out rules, and their purpose as guardians before they had even come to be. Some were entirely fine with this and followed as the divine being had wanted! Some questioned, and were saddened by their fates, but knew in the end it couldn’t be changed and simply accepted it. There’s also Doleon. He feels this is the ultimate restriction. A punishment just for existing. He’s trapped forever and he never even got a choice or say so. Whoever this being is…oh he grows to despise them. He longs for the barriers of this stupid place to break. To be free of his dumb role. But he can’t. And it’s all their fault. No one else will understand, because it’s just what they’re supposed to do.

One day, later on in his life, he hears whispers. Whispers of voices who understand his troubles more than anyone. Voices who, too, long for freedom, unfairly imprisoned by the divine being. Anything to lure him into his own temple. The voices seem to be coming from…his shard? They offer…promise…a way out. All of the freedom and power he could ever want! Hasn’t he always been a little curious as to what his shard was capable of? What he was capable of? He wasn’t allowed to tap into it without good reason, it was supposedly dangerous…restriction. He haaaated that, didn’t he? Since when did he avoid danger? Don’t you want to try it? Don’t you want to see what lies beyond these barriers? Don’t you…want to prove Akmad wrong? Prove your creator wrong…?

He does…and suddenly his hatred for the Supreme only grows. Not because he’s angry at the moment. Quite the opposite, actually, he’ll feel angry later, the rush of adrenaline and energy and power he felt from amplifying his powers like this…he didn’t care how drowsy it made him afterwards, or even the fact that he had passed out, it was. It felt good. So so good. Every time he went back to his temple, he’d do it again. Something in him insisted.

But the voices keep going, you know what would feel even better? Perhaps…all seven. Bowing to yourwill, their powers at your command. (He’s actually just the most susceptible. Mentally weak. It is he who bows to their will now, but he doesn’t have to know that.) Supreme was oh so wrong. The Shards can only have one true master. Do what you know you must…and it could be you.

Now the Shards, they actually needed separate guardians! But I’ll get back to that in a bit. After this comes the whole plan to steal the shards from the temples of his brothers (with the help of Kieran, who got roped into this wanting to help his brother and best friend. Doleon, who said he just “was curious about something” and “needed his help,”) and. The whole possession and murder to acquire the connection his brothers had to their respective shards and claim them as his own thing ensues.

Now THIS is what I’ve been thinking about more recently regarding his lore. Because a bit after most of the main oc universe events (meaning years have passed) the power of foresight he gained from killing Erebus finally decides to make itself known again. It was random for Erebus, it stays random for Doleon too. He has this…horrible vision, some eldritch abomination he’s come face to face with. He is helpless against it. The world around him has been reduced to nothing but a hellscape. He enjoyed chaos and destruction but…this felt odd to him. Something deep in his soul sensed that this was something wrong, something dire, even towards him. One last thing flashed before his eyes before the vision ended. His homeworld. What could that possibly have to do with…

And that was the first time in a long time he’d felt genuine distress. Supreme. Supreme was going to be resurrected. The one being who could strip him of everything in an instant, trap him again just as they’d done for so long in the past. The one being he truly…feared. He needed to leave. Now. He needed to…put a stop to this event. Somehow. Someway.

Spoilers Doleon goes back to the dome™️ (no longer the dome bc doleon broke the barrier a long long time ago) and is NOT able to stop the Supreme from resurrecting. In fact he finds out it was. His fault. You know how I said they needed separate guardians. How this was Supreme’s attempt at “creating a balance.” Well that’s what it was SUPPOSED to be. By corrupting himself, he in turn corrupted the original holder of the Shards, his creator, even in death. Now they can finally awaken again. And Doleon is to blame.

And that freedom he was promised? All those centuries ago? It’s about to be taken from him. Painfully. By a fully corrupted Supreme who demands full control over the very things that did this to them. I love you supreme possession arc. 

Oh did I ever mention Doleon’s hatred for being restricted and trapped leads to his severe claustrophobia that only very few have seen out of him in his entire lifetime. Because that’s a thing too. Unrelated but also kind of is. The Shards make his fear of being contained worse on purpose. So.
