HALF MOON IN A ONE LIGHT TOWN When I was a kid, there were only one set of traffic lights in my entire county, over in Annapolis Royal. Talk about a rural life. Fifteen years or so ago, they set some up in Middleton as well. Down here in the center of Lawrencetown, all you get is a single orange beacon, eternally flashing slow. It's not so much a nighttime necessity, what with traffic being eternally sporadic much past summer sunset. You can really take your time crossing the street, and I sure did, gazing up at a half moon rising while darkness fell. Things take a long time to turn over here, a wide-eyed dream drifting down to sleep. Still a long way off for me. I've always loved to split my day somewhat even between light and dark, though in the winter, I surely get a lot more night. It's just about level right now, like I'm standing on a seesaw, ready to tilt from one end to the next. August 8, 2024 Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia Year 17, Day 6115 of my daily journal.

It didn't really rain today! The calm before the expected storm!

We helped Marissa and Melanie set up the banquet room for their wedding tomorrow. David was used for his height and steaming skills:)

After that we ventured to Salvatore's in Halifax for 🍕😋

Then headed to Lawrencetown beach to watch the surfers and go for a lovely walk on the beach. We are as curious as the surfers regarding what weather may hit tomorrow!!

TIME TRIPS OVER This half-blind bend in the road is burned into my brain, a thousand countless indivisible memories, stacked on top of each other here. Time trips over itself when you spend a lot of life in one place. It has a way of masking subtle changes, until you forget the divisions of was from is. There's a presence here that feels just as familiar. Gliding past the slow light, down to the bridge, spanning the Annapolis River – looking over to gauge the level. Or going straight until the town disappears just a couple minutes later. The borders of this village form of perfect circle, no reason really, the planners just did it because they could. But I often find myself circling around it much the same. Back and forth both here on Highway 1 and the 201, and Lawrencetown Lane that connects them. Maybe a detour down the various sidestreets, with all the daydreams they keep to themselves. Just wake me up when most of the world starts sleeping. Nostalgia by Peter Brannon Via Flickr: Snowy Owl ~ (bubo scandiacus) I've been looking at all the wonderful photos of Snowy Owls from fellow photographers and feeling nostalgic from when I was back up north. I went back through my old photos and found this unprocessed image from 2014. I am not sure why I never got to it. I remember this moment so well. It was actually April if you can believe that. I was birding down by the ocean and I saw a very late Snowy Owl. Not only was the owl slow to leave our province, but so was the snow. A flurry came through the area with gigantic flakes and created this scene. These are the moments that keep us coming back. Photo taken with my old Sigma 150-500mm and a D7000.
