the idea of humans taking care of a baby vampire is so fascinating. usually it's an older vampire taking care of the new ones, or the new one being on their own with no one to guide them from what ive seen. And how it switches the roles in dteam, making sap and george have to take care of most things instead of dream. also gives me the thought of Dream trying his best to keep them alive once he's more settled into being a vampire. Trying to prevent them from being like him. risking himself to ensure that they are gonna be fine, much to both of their concerns. because what if dream gets killed. what if he dies again. would he just come back again? can he even die anymore? they dont wanna find out
(also thinking of this AU mixed with the mafia mafia AU. once more with Dream dying, potentially during the exchange. Team gets to keep the body and they prepare a funeral and all but before it can happen, dream is awake.)
You have no idea how much mindless world building has been going through my head...
Playing on the notion of the different ways people can be turned from folklore, how I'm having this play out in this world, there are multiple ways to be turned, Vampires are a known Monster. But most of the other methods are thought to be just ways to get children to behave, how to be a model citizen, myths really. Mostly because...no one really notices when someone goes through these transformations unbit. It's always assumed that a rogue vampire was bit and abandoned by its sire, left to cause havoc in their town.
Yet...I'm thinking most "rogue" vampires, ones who lose their sense of rationality, are these unbit vampires. Going rogue because they have no Sire. No one to help them through this vampiric process. Unable to obtain most vampire features without a Sire's blood. No sharpen fangs to help them hunt and no supernatural powers to aid them in survival. Going after mainly livestock and unknowning passerbys...
Like I stated before, it's thought in folklore that vampires just crave to be dead and killing them is a mercy and I wanna say that's true for these rogue vampires. While they do lose their sense of rationality and rely on their hunger instinct, they're also bombarded with dreadful longing of someone they don't and will never have. Constantly hit with utter despair and sorrow and loneliness. In truth, they rather die again then having to be undead and full of this dreadful void inside of them. Getting more and more reckless so the hunters can finally give them peace....
Which leads us to Dream's unique circumstance!
Technically he is considered a rogue vampire with the lack of a Sire, but!!! He isn't alone.
Like there's a lot of things that come into Dream's favor besides having such two loving people by his side. The main one is their town being highly old fashion and always believing in the superstition. There just happens to be a lot more information about these unbitten vampires because the townsfolk are so highly keen with their ancestors warnings and stories.
It's why Sapnap believes more in the "curse" than George. Perhaps George was abandoned at this town and was able find Sapnap and Dream and the three of them have been together ever since. But Sapnap grew up there. He believes in it as much as any other townsfolk. Dream was always skeptical but that was more the underlying fear of being turned himself...he knew what he was doing and just wanted it to not be true...
But thankfully, a superstitious town can provide solutions other than killing said vampire. Such as luring the vampire into a forest for one.
Dream is still faced with the instinct of a baby vampire craving for a Sire, but what ends up happening are these instincts basically imprinting on George and Sapnap. It's like....a baby duckling in the fullest. A freshly turned vampire will usually see their Sire and immediately imprint on them, forming that mental connection, they know they're a vampire off the bat and know what to do as a fledgling, the Sire's blood reinforcing that and helping them develop further.
But Dream's instincts imprints on two humans.
And after the stare off they all had with each other(all the time his instincts need to imprint), these two humans are hugging him so tight and are so warm and they're crying oh no! Why are they so sad :(!! He wants to make them happy!!
His instinct go kinda crazy in loving Sapnap and George, something Dream already fundamently feels. It's Dream's rational brain that is...weary of such intense feelings. Loving George and Sapnap felt like breathing air, needed but always subconsciously happening, didn't even have to think about it. But now it's this little voice constantly begging and yearning and missing them!! Being so happy when they bring him blood, basically to the point of tears from the gratitude he feels. They take so good care of him!!!
And it's a George and Sapnap...not feeling too bothered by this new-ish Dream. They /like/ Dream relying on them. It feels good to provide for him. After all this time of Dream taking care of them...which lead to his death...well! They're gonna take responsibility and make sure hiss...unliving life is the best as they can make it!! If they can...get him to stop crying and whining when they have to go back to the town before daybreak...Dream...Dream please we'll be back, just go to sleep, look how cozy we made this cave for you....OK ok we'll stay until you fall asleep of course...yes you can hold our hands.....
The two of them need to go get their own food (unable to share their catches with Dream, his bite poisoning any meat he bites into....at least that's what they were told...) and do more research on how to help Dream (and protect themselves). Trying to find ways to prepare for winter. Already building up stock of winter clothes and supplies to build a more suitable shelter for Dream.
I want to say their initial weariness of Dream doesn't last too long. But it's always this excuse they have on what Dream isn't allowed to have or do certain things. They use Dream's vampirism as a way to keep him just for themselves, for as long as they can...Dream isn't allowed to hunt because what if it triggers something in him and then he turns on them! Dream needs to kneel and be patient and have the catch put in his mouth, he can't be food aggressive! He can't let his hunger take hold of his mind, he needs to practice being good and patient now!! It's turns...very possessive very fast lmao
Which is like. On par with Sires. Something else I can mess with really...(fledglings just innately having whoever they imprinted on Want to take care of them...it's subtle and not noticeable really to the person, but a real difference is noticeable to anyone else)
But Dream wants to give back. After a while of being taken care of and finally getting his wits about him, instincts settling enough to see how George and Sapnap are wearing themselves thin....His constant worries of them turning out like him scares him too. The more pressing of his instincts flaring and upset at the thoughts of Sapnap and George potentially dying. Dream can't take care of them as a rogue vampire if they're also rogue vampires!! What if they die and he never finds out!!! What if the town gets to their bodies before he can...they'll burn them to a crisp before they can even have a chance of waking up again...he can't let that happen.
It's a mess in his mind too and comes to the conclusion he needs to make it easier on them. Building his own makeshift traps to catch rabbits and other small prey. Growing confident that if he can provide for himself he can provide for them too :)!! Trying to help further build the shelter into something Sapnap and George can stay in forever with him!! With him...forever...where they can all be safe and happy...
And he's proudly showing Sapnap and George everything he's done. Showing his Sires how good of a fledgling he is :)!!
Sapnap and George....are basically horrified. Interrogating where Dream got certain supplies ("In...the town...but I wasn't seen I swear!! I know you guys were talking about needing this and and...") and where he got food like chickens and obviously domesticated ducks and rabbits ("well it...you know that farm...but it was really easy and they'll think it was a fox really! I...wasn't seen! I made sure!!")
And Dream can already feel his inner fledgling cowering. He made them mad and worried and sad and disappointed...he's a bad fledgling....
But George and Sapnap will shower him in affection but not approval, holding him so close between the two. He can't leave the forest, you never know what might happen, you can never be too sure!! We already did the research, you need to trust us, you don't have a regular vampire's powers, but we'll take care of you, please Dream...what if we lose You.../again/...we can't get you back another time. Please Dream. We'll be safe we promise
"Promise...?"
"Just for you. We won't leave you alone." George's voice is so reassuring and Dream knows he can trust it...
"Forever together?"
"Forever." Sapnaps voice has no hesitation and is so earnest and genuine. Something that Dream knows he can trust it...
But Dream's instincts knows his Sires aren't immortal. Dream knows himself they're just humans. Even if Dream is just as vulnerable as them, he can't bear the thought of something happening to them. They need to stay here with him....and he'll figure it out somehow...

Funny enough, suicide was also another folklore reasoning for turning into a vampire :^) (along with being a criminal, or being super depressed and alone. Or a premature/sudden death)
Q who just shot Dream after seeing all the commotion happening, before being shot himself.
Sapnap screaming and running towards Dream and begging he stays awake. The other mafia members rushing towards them. Sapnap screaming at all of them to go away, they cause this, this is their fault any of this happened.
George being able to drag Sapnap away from Dream's body screaming and crying to let him go. Having to knock him out to take him back home...if he will even consider it home after this...
I imagine the guys preparing Dream's body and trying to have it bless so he doesn't come back undead. They super believe in all of it and are wanting to take every precaution. But Sapnap refusing for any of them to do anything. He doesn't want them near Dream. They can fuck right off. He'll bury Dream himself if he has to.
It's Dream groggily sitting up asking why they're all screaming....(and then they all start truly screaming)

Blatantly Partisan Party Review I (WA 2025): Sustainable Australia Party–Anti-corruption
Prior reviews: federal 2013, federal 2016, VIC 2018, NSW 2019, federal 2019, federal 2022, VIC 2022, NSW 2023, plus my friend’s b_auspol review for WA 2021
What I said before: “I am aware of some well-meaning people in this party with centrist or centre-left environmental views, but the overall thrust is NIMBY and anti-immigration and I cannot in good faith offer any endorsement.” (NSW 2023)
What I think this year: Sustainable Australia (SusAus) is the party that has never had a name it didn’t want to change. Starting life as the Stable Population Party, they are registered in WA as “Sustainable Australia Party—Anti-corruption”, while at federal level they changed from “Sustainable Australia Party—Stop Overdevelopment/Corruption” to “Sustainable Australia Party—Universal Basic Income” in November 2023. If they could simply stop tacking slogans or policy principles onto their name, that would be grand.
Anyway, these geniuses who can’t settle on a name have reached quite possibly the dumbest solution to the housing crisis: instead of responding to the current demand for housing in Australia by increasing the supply of housing, they want to reduce supply and somehow make demand disappear. This is fantasyland nonsense. Demand outstripping supply cannot be waved away. There is legitimate debate on how to best increase supply and the extent to which the state or the private sector should provide housing. But SusAus are not here for any of that.
Instead, SusAus are here to push their barrow about “stabilising” the population. What this means is reducing immigration to Australia and promoting measures to reduce population growth in other countries. This sort of talk very quickly leads to racist ideas about certain peoples “breeding like rabbits” and towards eugenicist policies to limit who can reproduce and when. Comically, SusAus now have a statement on their website that “SAP is a pro-immigration party”. This is “my shirt is raising a lot of questions already answered by my shirt” territory and recalls for me how Health Australia kept insisting they were not an anti-vax party while peddling anti-vax policies. If you want fewer people to come to a country, you quite objectively are not pro-immigration. SusAus are anti-immigration and they are population nihilists who would prefer it if you simply had not been born because you made the population go up.
Despite this, SusAus goes on about how they support “a science and evidence-based approach to policy”. There’s a good point in the b_auspol review from 2021 that “when people start waving that around as a banner cry, there does tend to be rather an overtone of ‘if you don’t agree with us then obviously you are being illogical and emotional’.” SusAus continues that they do “not [have] a left or right wing ideology”, and almost anyone who ever says that is either too cowardly or too wishy-washy to state their actual position on the political spectrum, and they usually turn out to be on the right.
To be honest, I am not terribly interested in engaging with the rest of their policies because their core principles are discrediting. If you are an urbanist or a YIMBY, this is not the party for you and never will be. I’m an urbanist and I’m at least YIMBY-adjacent; I like compact and dense cities for their accessibility and cultural vibrancy and agglomeration effects that make things like public transport, education, and healthcare more efficient to provide. (I am wary of some of the more fervent anti-regulation strands of YIMBYism, conscious as I am of the dire living conditions of unregulated housing for poorer communities in the past.)
SusAus have at least expanded their rhetoric to criticise housing sprawl but they continue to go on about “inappropriate high-rises” and lord knows what that is: a high-rise that dresses immodestly? An apartment that says slurs? No housing is “inappropriate” if it puts a roof over somebody’s head and allows them to lead a happy, healthy life as part of the community. Sorry folks but nobody will like the appearance of every building. For a party that bleats about evidence-based policy, SusAus's attitude towards denser cities seems to boil down to “I don’t like change and that new block of apartments down the road doesn’t meet my own particular aesthetic values”.
If you want to really talk about sustainability, you talk about densifying cities and reducing sprawl. You talk about replacing old housing stock that is no longer fit for purpose so that people who currently live in draughty, mouldy old houses can move into well-insulated, energy-efficient modern housing. You talk about giving people more options about where to live and how they live. You sure as shit don’t talk about restricting housing, retaining unsustainable and inefficient urban forms, enforcing your aesthetic preferences, or embracing “fuck off we’re full” attitudes.
So, to conclude, what I say to people who want to reduce Australia’s population is this: you first.
Recommendation: Give Sustainable Australia Party–Anti-corruption a weak or no preference.
