#Let Me Tell You About Homestuck

Okay, so you know how search engine results on most popular topics have become useless because the top results are cluttered with page after page of machine-generated gibberish designed to trick people into clicking in so it can harvest their ad views?
And you know how the data sets that are used to train these gibberish-generating AIs are themselves typically machine-generated, via web scrapers using keyword recognition to sort text lifted from wiki articles and blog posts into topical subsets?
Well, today I discovered – quite by accident – that the training-data-gathering robots apparently cannot tell the difference between wiki articles about pop-psych personality typologies (e.g., Myers-Briggs type indicators, etc.) and wiki articles about Homestuck classpects.
The upshot is that when a bot that's been trained on the resulting data sets is instructed to write fake mental health resource articles, sometimes it will start telling you about Homestuck.

i want to consume homestuck, uve convinced me.
BUT HOW IT SEEMS CONFUSING
do not worry!! here's a little guide.
DON'T read on the official website... the company that bought it didn't care about it and did an absolutely shit job at preserving it, most of the games and animations are broken and replaced by annoying walkthroughs or shitty quality videos.
download the unofficial collection! it's preserved not JUST homestuck but also all official homestuck media, like the soundtrack albums, bonus comics, additional websites and all kinds of cool stuff!
the unofficial collection has a ton of customization options for reading. i would absolutely recommend new reader mode, because it hides away any spoilers that could pop up. it'll also notify you when something new is revealed, like a new soundtrack album or bonus comic! that way, you experience things in the same order they came out originally!
there's also mods you can add to the collection- i recommend this one if you're reading with an audience or if you prefer to not see a lot of early 2000s gamer language (which can include ableist slurs)
then, just enjoy! and don't freak out if it seems confusing- advice that i found helpful is to consider homestuck a video game. when new words are introduced don't panic, just pay attention to how they're used-- each item/concept is usually explained and then practiced exactly like in a video game tutorial, so eventually you'll be a pro at all of the concepts you'd never heard before
have fun! :D

i infodump about homestuck history and you pretend to listen
13th of april 2009 Andrew hussie releases the first few pages of the web comic Homestuck.People both commemorate it and celebrate it every year, commemoration of the day is typically ironic and satirical.
2010, After a whole year of viewers deciding the storyline of Homestuck, Andrew Hussie completely takes over, and the last reader request is taken.
Tumblr media
2010,The most important and most recognizable part of the comic (act 5)begins. This is also when the Homestuck fandom begins to be considered “that” annoying fandom. this annoying fandom trope is also where the phrase “LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT HOMESTUCK” originates from, this line was typically used to imitate Homestuck fans in a satirical mocking way, poking fun about their constant need to talk about Homestuck and the cult like following it had.
2011,Often referred to as a fandom legend, a still anonymous girl is mentioned in a Tumblr post to have ‘allegedly’ attempted to dye her skin grey for a Homestuck cosplay at anime expo, this was done in a hotel bathtub. She did this By ‘allegedly’ using a mixture of water, vodka, and sharpies, filling the bathtub with it and climbing in. This becomes a very important defining moment in fandom history, with many celebrating its anniversary every year.
Also taking place at the 2011 anime expo, Homestuck fandom members film the infamous YouTube video of people passing around a bucket and spitting in it (in the middle of a family restaurant). They do this with the intention of referencing a popular headcanon of troll reproduction.
Tumblr media
These two anime expo events solidify the horrible reputation Homestuck fans would hold to this day.
2012 the Kickstarter for a Homestuck adventure game is started, making 2.5 million dollars.
In 2013 Andrew Hussie momentarily stops updating Homestuck, this time is known as the gigapause
2014,dashcon takes place it becomes widely known as the worst convention in fandom history, as well as the closest thing to a homestuck convention to ever happen.Theres many pictures of homestuck cosplayers in the famous urine-soaked ball pit at dashcon
Tumblr media
Homestuck goes on its final pause in 2015, this pause doesn’t end until 2016 when the final pages of homestuck are released
2016,The worlds greatest literary mistake is almost over, homestuck is coming to a end.
Homestuck 2.0 is announced in 2016 and video games,a tv series books etc are promised None of these projects ever release, infact nothing EVER comes of ‘homestuck 2.0’.
2021,Andrew Hussie essentially abandons homestuck.
2023, homestuck is updated again in october.

what’s homestuck?
Let me tell you about it! /ref
Homestuck is a flash based webcomic started April 13, 2009 that ran until April 13, 2016 written by Andrew Hussie please correct me if they go by a different name now (with two pauses in between called the Omega- and Gigapauses respectively). It’s a trash comic built on the backs of early Internet and early meme culture following a group of adolescents and space aliens and their guardians (more so focused on the alpha and beta kids and trolls). If you want to look into it further there’s a fan archive of the comic in full with working flash and an option to read the comic as if it were first coming out with a full and extensive list of triggers warnings for the content within—-
because like I said before it’s a trash comic we all shit on in one way or another, especially if this was your main fandom back in the day. Most people take the characters for loosely connected aus if I’m being honest since we were all having fun making fan content and “what if” scenarios while the pauses were happening. People might know it more by proxy from the Undertale fandom since Tobi Fox worked on Homestuck as a music composer for the most part. Megalovania was Virska’s theme before San’s, and before that was used in an Earthbound fan game. UwU
If you ever went to a con and saw a bunch of kids/teens/maybe young adults running around with candy corn colored horns and grey full body paint, chances are you’ve encountered a Homestuck in the wild.

The last post reminded me that I Did A Thing some time ago.
When I tried to draw a godtier Kankri, I understood that every Kankri in comic had different godtier palette. So I made a chart of every of them to compare. Then I did the same to some more godtiers and forgot about it until my friend tried to do a Terezi cosplay and asked about colours. The chart helped and was forgotten again.
TL;DR: I have some charts that help to analyze godtier colours and can be helpful in drawing, cosplaying, designing godtier pajamas etc.
Let's start with Mind one:
Tumblr media
I have nothing else here to say except that I did Terezi's palette proportionally brighter because she stands in the dark in that flash. "Official palette" was a palette that I found in Wiki, but seems that they changed it to Latula's Collide sprite's.

I keep seeing very large homestuck books at a local store, is this a good way to get into the series or are the books not the same as the orginal? (whatever the orginal was/is)
the original was a webcomic in which almost every image was a moving gif, or a short animation with music, and lots of the scenes were even playable minigames; unfortunately you wouldnt be able to experience any of that with the books :(
the books are more collector’s items because they contain (extremely spoilery) author commentary. they’re sort of like the bonus features you’d get with the blu-ray, not really how you’d want to get into the original material itself.
if youre looking for a way to get into homestuck, the downloadable collection is by far the best way, since all the games actually work in it, and it has lots of great bonus features to hide spoilers
i hope that helps! :]
