Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was first to greet recipients in a line, followed by GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. After shaking hands with Mr Schumer, the family refused to shake hands with the Republican leaders.
“They’re just two faced,” Sicknick’s mother Gladys Sicknick told CNN after the event. “I’m just tired of them standing there and saying how wonderful the Capitol police is, and then they turn around and … go down to Mar-a-Lago and kiss his ring ... It just hurts.”
Only 10 House Republicans joined House Democrats in a vote to impeach then-President Trump for inciting the riot with his ongoing false narrative that the election was stolen from him. Weeks after the attack, Mr McCarthy visited Mr Trump at his Florida estate. His political action committee announced at the time that “President Trump has agreed to work with Leader McCarthy on helping the Republican party to become a majority in the house.”
“They came out right away and condemned what happened on January 6,” Mr Sicknick’s brother Ken told CBS News. “Whatever hold that Trump has on them, they’ve backstepped, they’ve danced, they won’t admit to wrongdoing. Not necessarily them, themselves, but of Trump and the rioters.”
He mentioned Texas Republican Louis Gohmert, who presented a convicted rioter with a flag flown over the Capitol after her release from prison.
“It’s disgusting,” Ken Sicknick said. “It takes away everything my brother has done. … With them, it’s party first. … As long as it’s got a big ‘R’ in front of it, we’re gonna do whatever [they] think.”

Bodycam footage released in 2021 by the U.S. Department of Justice, and cell-phone videos posted to social media, show that Boyland was hit by a police officer numerous times with what appears to be a small tree branch or walking stick.
Shortly after, a group of men carries Boyland to a spot on the sidewalk directly in front of the police line at the center of the tunnel entrance.
Other videos show a bystander frantically performing CPR on Boyland, whose lips had turned purple. Another man, wearing body armor with a patch that read “Sheriff” on the front, takes over the CPR for a short time, but is then pulled away from Boyland. Police then grab the apparently deceased woman by the feet and drag her into the Capitol.
“She’s dying! She’s dying!” one man cries out to the line of police. “That’s on you, mother [expletive].”
The crowd outside the tunnel then erupts into a rage, charging at police and throwing objects, including flag poles, a riot shield and what appears to be a stereo speaker.
The new video confirms the limited bodycam footage and eyewitness accounts from Jan. 6 that Boyland was crushed and trampled when the crowd was pushed out of the tunnel, then repeatedly struck by police as she lay unconscious.
Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) questioned Attorney General Merrick Garland about Boyland’s death at an October hearing on Capitol Hill. “Was a determination ever made as to who repeatedly struck Rosanne Boyland in the head with a rod before she died?” Gohmert asked.
“Again, I think this was a matter that was investigated by the U.S. Attorney’s office,” Garland said.
[Boyland’s sister Lonna Cave] said she wants to know why the police officer who beat her sister isn’t under investigation. “Why in this case is this policewoman not being held accountable? Why is nobody investigating her?” Cave said. “Why isn’t anybody talking about it? It’s mind boggling.”
The Epoch Times asked both the U.S. Department of Justice and the Metropolitan Police Department for comments on the circumstances of Boyland’s death, but did not receive a reply by press time.
Cave said she noticed on the videos that it wasn’t the police who came to her sister’s aid.
“It doesn’t show the police officers helping my sister whatsoever. The only people who are helping her are the guys who are sitting in jail right now.”

Criminal Minds

Sometimes, in the course of human affairs, actions are so preposterous, laws don’t exist to prevent them from occurring.  For example, no one has suggested we need a rule that bars killer whales from competing in Olympic swimming competitions.  Dogs aren’t required to have driver’s licenses or passports.  So, when Sean Hannity, a Fox News commentator, noted that a felon could run for U. S.  President,  all but the corrupt were surprised. We must blame the honorable men who drafted the  U. S. Constitution for the oversight. Innocence may become them, but it leaves the country facing the absurd.    Even so, Hannity’s remark points to a new norm.  If we embrace his notion of inclusiveness, we are obliged to accept liars, cheats, and felons as eligible to hold high office. Consequences for crime disappear. Instead, we must reward those guilty of sleazy intent with our confidence.  True believers go further.  They will defend those who are found with their hands in the cookie as victims of a conspiracy.  Or, they will paint the offense as being trivial.  Donald Trump took top secret documents to Mar-a-Lago?  Or swallowed them?  Other than the effect on the former president’s digestion, where’s the harm? If the United States is becoming a kinder, more forgiving nation, I applaud the change and hope the new standard applies to immigrants, minorities of every stripe, the poor, and the working class. Think of the tax savings the nation would enjoy if we emptied our prisons.  We could give the money to the military to develop a death ray.    People who embrace absurdity and contradictions without blinking show an enviable tolerance. Liars and cheats and crooks have long existed, but few have felt free to exhibit the blimp-sized bravado tolerated today. We have Trump to thank for this phenomenon.  An accomplished liar, he had taught us to double down when accused of impropriety.  No more blushing with shame. A lie we now know, if often repeated, gains the ring of truth.   His appointments to the U. S. Supreme Court share his talent for dissembling. Each of them swore to Congress that Rove v. Wade was settled law. Yet, how easily they betrayed their words after attaining the high bench. A chameleon couldn’t have changed color faster. With the forty-fifth President and the high court as an example of the new norm, I sympathize with Congressman Louis Gohmert.  He feels discriminated against.  “If you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you.”

A professor at Texas A&M University just took to Facebook to celebrate the fact that Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) was diagnosed with COVID-19 as “good news.” He went on to express hopes that “fat Klansman” President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence get it as well.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) railed against the indictment of former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro while saying in an interview on Friday that “if you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you.”
Gohmert, speaking to Newsmax in an interview on Friday, was asked to comment on the Friday indictment of Navarro by a federal grand jury after the former Trump official failed to comply with the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
“It actually puts an exclamation point on the fact that we have a two-tiered justice system. If you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you. They’re gonna bury you. They’re gonna put you in the D.C. jail and terrorize and torture you and not live up to the Constitution there,” Gohmert responded.
He argued that there was a double standard to how Democrats and Republicans were being treated, pointing to the acquittal of prominent Democratic attorney Michael Sussman, who was being investigated by special counsel John Durham, as one example.
“So [it’s] very clear. If you’re a Democrat, then you can lie. You can cheat. You can do whatever you want,” he said.
The Hill has reached out to Gohmert’s office for further comment and clarification on his remarks.
The development comes against the backdrop of Navarro’s indictment, who is facing two charges of criminal contempt of Congress after being subpoenaed by the House Select Committee.
The Committee is interested in hearing from the former Trump official, looking to hear possible evidence regarding efforts to have the 2020 election results overturned by allies of former President Trump.
“Who are these people?” Navarro asked during his court appearance on Friday. “This is not America. I mean, I was a distinguished public servant for four years and nobody ever questioned my ethics. And they’re treating me in this fashion.”

This really happened. The dumbest person in Congress went super dumb, and that’s quite an achievement considering the number of dumb people in Congress and the number of dumb things they’ve done the past several years. Excerpt from this story from Grist:
The Texas Republican congressman Louie Gohmert has asked a senior U.S. government official if changing the moon’s orbit around the Earth, or the Earth’s orbit around the sun, might be a solution for climate change.
Bizarrely, the question was not posed to anyone from NASA or even the Pentagon. Instead it was asked of a senior forestry service official during a House natural resources committee hearing on Tuesday.
Speaking with Jennifer Eberlien, associate deputy chief of the U.S. Forest Service, Gohmert asked if it was possible to alter the orbits of the moon, or the Earth, as a way of combating climate change.
“I understand from what’s been testified to the Forest Service and the BLM [Bureau of Land Management], you want very much to work on the issue of climate change,” Gohmert said, adding that a past director of NASA had once told him that orbits of the moon and the Earth were indeed changing.
“We know there’s been significant solar flare activity, and so… is there anything that the National Forest Service or BLM can do to change the course of the moon’s orbit, or the Earth’s orbit around the sun?” Gohmert asked. “Obviously that would have profound effects on our climate.”
Eberlien said she would have to “follow up with you on that one, Mr Gohmert.”
“Well, if you figure out a way that you in the Forest Service can make that change, I’d like to know,” Gohmert added.
Though he seemed to be entirely earnest, some observers have posited that Gohmert was seeking to express a belief that climate change was a phenomenon of natural changes in the orbits of celestial bodies, and so any other efforts to address it would be futile.
