Excerpt from Chapter 3 of Hanguk Hip Hop by Myeong Sun Song:

"...that there are no hip hop clubs or venues that host shows or open mic nights on a regular basis"

In my opinion (not considering myself as an expert here obviously especially not as a foreigner), as of 2019, this place would be Henz Club. I don't know if Henz ever hosted open mic nights but I knew that if I ever wanted to see a show or a particular artist, I should closely watch Henz page to see if they would ever announce that artist. Also, I checked weekly because Henz would always be having some sort of show every week. I wanted to see who they were booking that week and that would determine if I was going to the club that weekend and if so, what day. Another club could be Modeci which is associated with Henz. I've noticed that Modeci usually books much smaller artists. As of right now, Henz hasn't really been hosting any concerts/shows. They have released a compilation series of songs with khh artists. I think they had one event not too long ago where these song (or the artists on some of them) performed. Modeci has been having multiple events this year. Not sure what's really going on.

At the current moment (2022) it seems like "Blueprint" (opened in later 2019) might be developing into the new "home" club. Not only is it the biggest hip-hop club in Hongdae by size/capacity (according the the promoters and some posts on its instagram) but it has it has performances by some "underground leaning" (for lack of a better term) artists (Olltii, Khundi Panda, Simba, etc.) as well as some newer, up and comers (Rei, YLN Foreign, Pluma, etc.).

It'll be interesting to see what happens with Henz, Blueprint, and Modeci as the pandemic starts to fade away more. I definitely hope all 3 stay in business. I have also wondered whether Blueprint is being ran by people who also ran/run Henz and Modeci.

I think the author would know about Henz club even if it hasn't been mentioned yet. However, it probably didn't come up in interviews much, if all all. The book was released in 2019 but a lot of her research and communications seem to be dated at 2014 and 2015. Henz was just having it's 5th anniversary celebrations in 2019. So clubs she mentioned like "Club Master Plan", "Pbro Sound" and "Club Cream" were more established as an important part of Korean Hip-Hop. From my research of Henz' earlier events, they have some people performing/djing who are heavy hitters in restrospect but definitely weren't as big in 2014-2017 as they are now. Although there was some performances here and there by The Quiett or Deepflow and others. It's also hard for me to see how Henz will be viewed in the future. Is it a blip in history or is considered a big deal? I think so based on the notoriety of A LOT of the artists they have booked but we'll have to see.

I also think this REALLY shows how quick Khiphop moves though. Cause a book released in 2019, doesn't even mention or consider a club that I thought basically WAS the hub and "home" of "real" korean hip-hop and it's fans. And even now in 2022, with Blueprint, Henz might not even be that going forward.
