Hi guys,

I feel like everyone lately is obsessed with lip balms, peptide lip treats and anything glossy on the lips. I think we’ve all become obsessed thanks to Mrs Hailey Bieber bringing out her own Peptide Lip Treatments in her own skincare brand. As you can imagine lots of brands are creating dupes of this product and I think I found the most affordable dupes. So today we are chatting about the new MUA Hydra-Juice Peptide Lip Balm, £2.00!

Before we carry on, yes I said £2.00!! This blog post is going to be another reason why we need to give drugstore brands more hype. Hailey Bieber's Lip peptide lip balms are £16 which is actually really reasonable given that she could get away with charging more but since they aren't available in the U.K at the moment shipping bumps the costs up a lot. If you aren't familiar with MUA they are an affordable makeup brand that started getting a lot of hype for their quality of products when Makeup Revolution came onto the scene.

Currently there are 6 shades in the MUA range and since they were so affordable I picked up 3 shades. The first shade I picked up was Watermelon Sorbet which is the sheer pink shade. Then I also picked up Caramel Glaze which is a light nude tone and lastly Heartfelt Hun which is a slightly more deeper nude. These lip balms contain Peptides & Vit E, they help to deliver hydration & moisture, reducing the appearance of lip lines & helping stimulate collagen production.

Personally I love the formula of these balms because they are so easy to wear, look really natural on the lips and are very easy to replace when needed. When you look at the shade range compared to the high end collection, they shades are very similar so if like me you wanted to try out lip peptide balms but don't want to spend a lot I really recommend you checking these out. They are available at all MUA counters in Superdrug or online.

realizing im caught in a weird spot rn with my future. i want to be a professional makeup artist, and work on clients and models. at first i thought being a cosmetologist or an esthetician would be a cool profession but i dont Really focus on makeup. with cosmetology i learn mainly hair, with some nails and skin sprinkled in. being an esthetician u learn skin, but mainly skin treatments and massages, but not much makeup.

i like to watch vloggers of girls attending beauty school to try and get a vibe of what its like to attend a school like that, and i havent seen anyone do makeup Once. and i also realized, w my ocd, i dont wanna touch ANYONES body, not even just the models that come in for demonstration.

i found a makeup academy however that is makeup with some hair styling. i wanna do that! but now my family is worried about how that will be sustainable for me. it is true the avg freelance mua isnt making bank and rolling in cash. and if im sick/injured, i dont get paid for that day off.

also in pennsylvania u dont need/get a license to be an mua, but u do need a license to be an esthetician or a cosmetologist. and if im licensed, im more likely to be hired somewhere with my skills and qualifications. im not sure how accessible it is being Only an mua i can secure steady income.

so heres my idea: i go get my license (idk what i wanna study yet) snd then go to the makeup specialist school. but idk if the money i have will be accepted to the makeup school. and idk if i wanna go to school twice 🫠

if any of u are/know a make up artist, esthetician, a cosmetologist, can i have some advice?

Hi Laura!! If you’re comfortable could you talk about how you got into makeup artistry? I really want to apply to a makeup/beauty school and do maybe like a one year program, but the tuition + kit fee are quite expensive. I don’t know if it’s worth it :/ if you went to school for makeup would you say it’s worth it? Or is this something I can learn by myself/through the internet? Like will it be possible for me to get hired somewhere or am I gonna get laughed at in the interview if I don’t have the education lmaoo also I am talking about like bridal/fashion makeup, and not special effects makeup for film and stuff (even though that would be a super cool career and maybe something i can explore at a later time🤔) thanks love 💜

okay so this is a bit of a ramble i apologise in advance. you don’t need to go to beauty school to be a mua! i haven’t been to beauty school, i’m 50% self-taught and 50% done courses with companies like Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, MAC (these are mostly runway looks and editorial makeup) and I’ve also been to celebrity master classes (if you live in the UK I would 10000% recommend PLouise Academy in Manchester they have the best most informative masterclasses ever, mua mmmmitchell works with them a lot if you look on their TikTok they have some video tutorials too) All you need is a good portfolio, even if it starts as photos of your own makeup or friends makeup you’ve done. It’s so important to take a before shot too (and learn about skin if you’re serious about being in the industry it will give you a good advantage)

As for me I’ve always loved makeup and played around with it ever since I was little but I watched tutorials on yt (specifically Jamie Genevieve, NikkiTutorials and people my age will remember Tanya Burr lmao but she’s inactive now I think) anyways fast forward to 2015 I got rejected from MAC due to lack of experience and I was gutted I cried so much ahah (but they kept my face charts rude) ((ALSO FACE CHARTS ARE AMAZING FOR PRACTISE!!! 10/10 RECOMMEND)) after I was rejected at Mac I was really disheartened but my old hair salon was looking for an mua and offered me a position on a temp basis, using that as experience and building my portfolio I then worked for urban decay on the makeup counter alongside that. A couple years later I decided to take the plunge to go self employed bc the money is so much better and I loved being my own boss (mostly prom, bridal, festival and insta glam is my specialty) ANYWAY then COVID happened and I had to change jobs bc obvs mua weren’t allowed to work. I worked in an office and I hated it so much, now I work at another makeup counter (not sure if I’m allowed to say which one? Idk I won’t risk it) and do self-employed artistry on the side :)

When you’re starting out you put more money into it than you get I’m gonna be 10000% honest with you. But in order to grow and improve you need a good kit, can’t emphasise this enough. I could show you my kit staples if that’s something you’d be interested in though. Anyway sorry for rambling. If you love makeup and you enjoy doing it then I would 100% recommend pursuing it. There’s a lot of money in the industry these days and I’ve been lucky enough to meet some really amazing people doing what I do. I hope this helps angel! You don’t need beauty school! But masterclasses are amazing and usually much much cheaper!! Sorry it’s long!!!
