CLUBSIDIAN (Rock) The obsidian bladed pokemon
CLUBSIDIAN (Club/Obsidian) Its body naturally produces obsidian shard that are as sharp as knives. Ancient civilizations would pick up this shards when they fell from their bodies and use them to make their tools and weapons., and when the pokemon died, they would use their tails and backs as clubs and shields.
CLUBSIDIAN is based on the Stegouros Elengassen, a recently discovered armored dinosaur from the order Ankylosauria , but instead of a club at the and of its tail it had a broad flat bladed tail that reminded me of the Macuahuitl, an aztec weapon that consisted of a large wooden club lined with obsidian blades, so I mixed both

A character that I have no idea what I'm going to do with ever but I keep drawing her. I named her Vella temporarily because I was intending her for a "novella" and it stuck. I think I need to create clowns for her to hang out with and it'll come.

Quen Weapons
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love that the main Quen Melee weapon is basically a Macuahuitl, a Nahua weapon that was a club lined with obsidian blades somewhat like teeth. This version looks like it’s been constructed from parts of a snapmaw jaw and lined with the teeth. I love when Horizon puts a new spin on design templates from our world - it’s like the idea that, given the chance, we will figure out the same survival strategies because it’s in our nature.
It does make me wonder where the Quen are technologically- obviously the Focuses gave them a huge boost in terms of access to old world tech and data, but there’s not really a reason to have a weapon like this if you have widespread access to metal forging like say, the Oseram. Their armor seems to back this up - it’s almost entirely machine armor and woven materials. Based on what we’ve seen they’re clearly extremely skilled with textiles, woodworking and ceramics, and they have extremely powerful heavy weapons and ballistae. Maybe it’s just cheaper for the empire to outfit soldiers with weapons made from salvage.
Anyway thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Few weapons from ancient history are as intimidating as the Aztec Macuahuitl. a blade made of obsidian and wood designed to maim and capture enemies ready for sacrifice.

The sword of the day is the macuahuitl.
Tumblr media
Just because a culture lacks access to steel doesn’t mean they can’t make a sword. The macuahuitl was a paddle-shaped war club from pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, featuring blades made of sharpened obsidian embedded along the edges and glued in place with pitch. Although many times more brittle than steel, obsidian is capable of producing a much finer edge, meaning that this weapon could deliver a devastating cut. In addition, broken obsidian blades could always be re-knapped or replaced when necessary.

🐦‍⬛ VISAGE OF A CRUEL MAN (Original Character Art)

Han Rasputin, better known as the Cruel Man, is a dangerous and unpredictable character. If you’re unfortunate enough to cross paths with him, the best you can hope for is that he’s not here for you.
His choice of weapons are a bit strange — with one hand, he wields a heavy executioner’s sword (a typically two-handed weapon), antique and visibly aged, a swing from which will easily separate limb from body; with the other, he wields an improvised replica of an Aztec macuahuitl, made from a cricket bat and shards of wine bottles.

I'm not sure if this will be Ali's finalized costume design but I definitely like how his macuahuitl turned out! The artwork is of a monkey scribe with the Mayan calendar glyph for Hun-Chowen, which is his surname.

"... Fine. If you want to see a monster so bad..."
Tumblr media
"... I'll show you what a real monster looks like."
this was mostly me wanting to share the design for my Deltarune Monsterswap AU's monster Kris as they appear in the Dark World, but it also doubles as a little something else: a glimpse into one possible Weird Route. the Kris of this AU isn't bound to Player choice... and thus far less defenseless against their whims.
the question is: what does it take to make a good dog bite?
