NEON NATURE TOUR: FASHION CREDITS

Step into the neon-lit enchantment of Marina's "Neon Nature" Tour, which debuted on October 12, 2015, in Houston. Celebrating her third studio album, "Froot," Marina graced the cyber garden-inspired stage in collaboration with stylist Soki Mak and a handful emerging designers. Join us on a brief, yet dazzling, exploration of the tour's wardrobe—a kaleidoscope of avant-garde fashion and futuristic flair that left audiences spellbound.

The first set of looks were designed by Paula Knorr, who created two of Marina’s fuchsia, lavender & red lamé looks which were inspired by body movement and the interaction between the material and the female shape.

The Piers Atkinson reign just won't let up! M debuted several custom-made headpieces on stage, including a purple version of his Mega Diamond Ears headband.

With the first look, Marina wore the Emmanuelle wine-red leather pointed-toe pumps with eye-catching pink mink tail from Malone Souliers’ Fall/Winter 2015 collection.

The second look naturally met a more bolder choice. These stunners are Kat Maconie's Paulina metallic red leather platform pumps.

Another designer that hopped on is LA-based Michael Costello, who appeared on the eighth season of Project Runway and the first season of Project Runway All Stars!

"Designing for Marina and the Neon Nature Tour was a great experience. My team met with Marina for an initial fitting and we discussed sketches and fabric options. We wanted something colourful and full of sequins so it could shine on stage. We knew we wanted a cape to go along with the jumpsuit to give Marina that extra flair that she is known for when she performs." Michael said.

Of course, Piers Atkinson also created a custom blue sparkly version of his Hyper Cherries headpiece for the tour.

Bristol-based fashion label Burnt Soul custom-made around 7 different catsuits for our girl to wear!

Designer Robyn Lythe said: "To start with, we put the Froot album to catch the right feel for the designs. We wanted to incorporate the expression of her lyrics with the glitzy electro pop side of Froot. One of Marina‘s fashion icons is Elizabeth Taylor and so we used her as inspiration to create figure flattering hour glass shapes in our cut. More than anything we wanted to capture Marina‘s personality. We added floating georgette fabric sleeves and glittering neon colourful bodies to give her the comic book sass and electric look she‘s famous for. The most "Marina" part of our designs were probably the sleeves. We never work with anything but lycra but we wanted to add something a little softer that would add movement on stage. Marina is so feminine with so much strength and attitude and we thought the combination of the two fabrics were perfectly her."

These looks were crowned with the custom Piers Atkinson “Froot” laser-cut plexi headband (similar design pictured above).

For her Lollapalooza performance in Chile, she combined her pink catsuit with these Delalle Demilune oversized studded round cat-eye sunglasses!

A pair of BEBO chunky silver glittery platform sandals completed the look.

Costume designer Austin Louis Perry was in charge for the "Electra Heart" act costumes!

"Working with Marina and her team was such an excleine experience. To start off with I met with Soki Mak to brainstorm the key features of the show. As a fan of Marina’s music I immediately wanted to design for the "Electra Heart" section of the show. Soki and Marina gave me 5 words as a brief; „Sassy, 70’s, pink glitter rock star“. I then used key reference points trom pop acts like Cher, ABBA and Boney M. The next stage involved meeting Marina and presenting my ideas (which she was so excited about) and from there on we discussed colour options and fabric choices. Seeing how excited Marina was when trying on my designs at the first fitting was just incredible. She loved the capes and the fabrics looked amazing together. Personalty my favorite outfit was the pink glitter catsuit with the heart cut-outs. Seeing fans reactions to the Neon Nature wardrobe on social media and the personal comments and E-mails I‘ve received have been overwhelming. It has been such an incredible journey."

The final two custom looks come from Greek couture house Celia Kritharioti! First one is a gold sequined co-ord set featuring plunging V-neck with nude mesh overlay, while the second set comprises a lavender sequin bustier and matching flared trousers.

Kartell, Crossing generations for Milano Design Week

Is there a design brand more across-the-board than Kartell? Its products are appreciated by many different generations, thanks to its contemporary and versatile touch. Its attitude is beloved by younger people, that actually are the focus of the new Kartell project: Crossing Generations.

  The goal? Use a language that embraces many different forms of artistic and communication expressions, creating a dialogue with younger generations, that already have established an amazing relationship with Kartell’s aestethic, to offer new interpretive points of view. To be honest, if there’s anything that get along well with Kartell’s dynamic, smart and transforming spirit, that’s the young people energy!

  For Milano Design Week, Kartell Flaghsip store, located in via Turati, turns into an art gallery where “Kartell for young” ideas are exposed and represented through special installations. 10 artists, from art, music, design and fashion universe, will talk about this new Kartell project: stylist Diletta Bonaiuti; entrepreneur Marie-Louise Sciò; Fabrica designers; artist Ignasi Monreal; jewellery designer Madina Visconti Di Modrone; the music couple Mara Maionchi and Lorenzo Licitra; fashion designer Marcelo Burlon; the never-seen-before duo composed by designe expert Cristina Morozzi and its youtuber niece Sofia Viscardi; the social account Sciuraglam and, finally, young chinese designer Xiang Guan.

È con il Nabucco di Giuseppe Verdi che la 95^ stagione lirica dell’Arena di Verona  prende il via, con un Teatro alla Scala ricostruito sul palco areniano durante le “Cinque giornate di Milano del 1848”, che ruotando svela anche l’interno di un salone e addirittura quattro ordini di palchi perfettamente ricostruiti.

Opera nell’opera questa nuova produzione di Arnaud Bernard, che ne firma la regia e i costumi, dove i Babilonesi ed Ebrei sono spogliati dai soliti abiti e trasformati in austriaci e milanesi, e spari di cannone e fucilate meravigliano il gremito pubblico accorso per questa prima. Certo non è stato semplice cancellare dalla mente le immagini di un Nabucco tradizionale in cui non si fatica a capire i personaggi per i quali, invece, specie all’inizio e seguendone il libretto, qui emergono molte lampanti incongruenze. Ma l’opera è anche questa, meravigliare e stupire, lasciare sbigottiti e lasciarsi trasportare dal contesto, e se teniamo conto anche delle note dificoltà che l’Arena ha attraversato in questi ultimi mesi, e che sembra siano abbastanza risolte, l’intento è stato pienamente raggiunto. Leggiamo quindi una sorta di riscatto in questa messa in scena risorgimentale di Nabucco, ampiamente meritata.

Bravissimo Daniel Oren che ha diretto l’orchestra dell’Arena mettendo passione e trasporto tra le note verdiane: convince la sua direzione che è risultata ben scandita nei tempi e nei colori orchestrali, dando risalto ai fiati in alcuni momenti salienti. Buono il cast che, anche se con qualche défaillance (giustificata dal caldo torrido ed insopportabile della serata) non si è risparmiato dall’inizio alla fine, mantenendo concentrazione sul palcoscenico riempito da moltissime comparse che in qualche caso hanno creato però solo confusione: molti i “rumori” fuori scena e sulla scena che si potevano evitare. Bellissime le scene di Alessandro Camera con allestimenti scenici di Giuseppe De Filippi Venezia e luci di Paolo Mazzon, che facevano da cornice a questa colossale produzione. Lodi vanno alla Fenena interpretata da Carmen Topciu, voce calda e perfetta, che ha brillato per l’intera serata, mentre l’ Abigaille di Tatiana Melnychenko, oltre a non avere una perfetta dizione, ha avuto molti momenti di sfocatura vocale e alcune note acute rasentavano l’urlo: il suo modo di cantare ricorda un po’ la “vecchia guardia” che utilizzava lo “striscio” (portamenti) nelle frasi musicali.

Il comparto maschile si è difeso meglio, e, anche se non perfetti, hanno portato in scena con grande professionalità i loro ruoli: Nabucco, George Gagnidze, in questa produzione esce di senno a seguito di un colpo di pistola che lo ferisce alla testa (scena un po’ comica), ma grazie alla grande esperienza di Gagnidze non si è caduti nel ridicolo. Buona la sua performance, incisivo nel ruolo e attento ai dettagli. Dignitoso il resto del cast a partire da Ismaele, Walter Fraccaro, Zaccaria interpretato da Stanislav Trotimov, il Gran Sacerdote di Belo di Romano Dal Zovo, l’Abdallo di Paolo Antognetti, interessante e degna di attenzione l’Anna interpretata da Madina Karbeli. Bravo il Coro dell’Arena di Verona, diretto da Vito Lombardi, che  ha avuto il giusto tributo dal pubblico nel momento più atteso, il Va’ pensiero. Grandi applausi hanno accompagnato il celebre brano corale, che di questa opera è la pagina più conosciuta, che è stato bissato ed applaudito ancor prima del bellissimo finale in pianissimo che purtroppo quindi non abbiamo potuto udire, ed è stato coreografato dal lancio di volantini tricolore dai palchi ricostruiti della Scala, e con striscioni con la scritta “W VERDI”,  di cui ne abbiamo letto l’acronimo.

Per finire diciamo che questa messa in scena forse se incastonata in un altro titolo avrebbe avuto un effetto maggiore che con Nabucco; di sicuro l’Arena non ha badato a spese per questa nuova produzione (imposta dalla legge Bray che richiede almeno una nuova produzione a stagione), ma il risultato finale complessivo è certamente positivo. Verona quindi può festeggiare alla grande l’inizio di una stagione lirica che si preannuncia interessante anche per gli artisti che si avvicenderanno sul palcoscenico in questa caldissima estate 2017. Prossime recite il 29 giugno, il 7-12-15-18 luglio, 4-9-12-18 agosto. Sul podio Daniel Oren si alternerà con Jordi Bernacer; tra le voci si potranno ascoltare:  Anna Pirozzi e Susanna Branchini, Leonardo Lopez Linares , Boris Statsenko, Sebastian Catana, Mikheil Sheshaberidze, Rubens Pellizzari, Ratat Siwek, In Sung Sim, Rebeka Lokar, Anna Malavasi, Nino Sorguladze, Nicolò Ceriani, Cristiano Olivieri, Elena Borin.

Il misantropo: un percorso di guarigione

Il lavoro sul misantropo vede la genesi tanto tempo fa. Affonda le radici in un laboratorio in Sardegna con Toni Servillo, dove quel testo si impose alla mia coscienza e mi folgorò per la forza dei sentimenti in esso contenuti. Più volte ho avuto la tentazione di affrontarlo, rimandando sempre il momento in virtù della mia troppo giovane età. Non capivo tante cose perché ancora non le avevo vissute, ma allo scoccare dei trent’anni la lampadina si è nuovamente accesa. Mi trovavo a Milano, stavo vedendo un bellissimo saggio dell’accademia Paolo Grassi e improvvisamente ho capito che era arrivato il momento di farlo. Avevo davanti a me una buona fetta della compagnia che mi avrebbe accompagnato in questa avventura, tra cui il mio grande amico Davide, persona che mi avrebbe poi affiancato in una fase molto importante della mia vita.

Inizio perciò a lavorare per rendere possibile quella che era soltanto un’idea. Ne parlo con Davide e iniziamo a guardarci intorno per trovare una produzione che sostenga il nostro progetto, trovando alla fine il pieno appoggio nel teatro Biondo di Palermo, il teatro della nostra città. Il debutto viene fissato per Ottobre 2020. Nel Dicembre 2019 iniziamo a lavorare al testo, prima leggendo numerosi saggi sul teatro di Molìere e sulla storia della Francia nel 600’. Nel Gennaio 2020 cominciamo il lavoro vero e proprio sul testo, studiando incessantemente per un mese e mezzo. Nel frattempo comincia a salire una certa preoccupazione per un virus che si sviluppa in Cina, denominato covid-19, si teme possa arrivare in Italia. Cosa che avviene intorno al 20 Febbraio. Io dovevo partire per Milano dove mi aspettava un lavoro alla Scala di Milano, un balletto intitolato Madina, dove avrei partecipato in qualità di attore/narratore. L’emergenza corona virus dilaga e iniziano le misure restrittive che bloccano tutti gli assembramenti. Lo spettacolo salta. Decido di tornare in Sicilia, poco prima del blocco totale che mi avrebbe impedito ogni spostamento. Vado da mia madre a Scaletta Zanclea in provincia di Messina, il paese dove sono nato (dove mi trovo tuttora), facendo un isolamento domiciliare di venti giorni in solitudine. Solo dopo questo isolamento mia madre e potuta tornata a casa con me.

Qui inizia un nuovo capitolo, incerto, fatto di alti e bassi, di cambi di umore, di entusiasmi e depressioni, di tempo sospeso, il tempo che mi permette di scrivere queste parole. Riprendiamo a lavorare sul testo cercando di sfruttare al massimo la tecnologia, attraverso le videochiamate principalmente. Decidiamo di continuare a lavorare sul testo, a pensare al nostro futuro, per non darla vinta alla paura e perché la vita deve vincere sempre. Ma le preoccupazioni sono tante…Quando finirà? Dopo cosa succederà? Si potrà riprendere a fare il nostro mestiere? Lo spettacolo quando andrà in scena? Sono domande a cui ancora oggi non si può rispondere…Una cosa però è certa, questa situazione ci lascerà una ferita, ci lascerà un marchio e credo che ce lo porteremo dietro per molto tempo. La mia parte ottimista pensa che la gente avrà una gran voglia di tornare alla socialità e il teatro è la socialità per eccellenza. Ma penso soprattutto che la gente avrà bisogno di sentirsi viva, di condividere il medesimo tempo presente con altre persone, avrà voglia di specchiarsi nel teatro, perché se c’è una cosa che abbiamo capito è quanto importante sia la fisicità (di cui abbiamo una grande mancanza) e quanto abbiamo necessità degli altri visto che siamo degli animali sociali. Ho accolto i propositi di molti di pensare al futuro del teatro, e anche se tutto adesso appare incerto, credo che il processo che ho innescato in me da un anno a questa parte, sia perfettamente in linea con il proposito futuro. Cioè: niente… se non gli attori, i sentimenti, i rapporti e il momento presente. Da questo bisogna ripartire. E’ il grado zero, in fondo tanto auspicato. Sicuramente saranno tempi duri, per via di una crisi economica epocale, ci sarà una profonda crisi economica anche per il teatro visto che forse sarà tra le ultime cose a ripartire, ma tutto passerà…Si prospettano tempi in cui ristabilire le priorità, tempi in cui si arriverà ad una sintesi, tempi in cui ci si libererà da zavorre passate, in cui bisognerà riflettere seriamente e ripensare radicalmente tante cose. Sembra incredibile che stia accadendo, e non so se sia una sfortuna che sia capitato proprio mentre lavoravo sul misantropo di Molìere.  

Comunque sia, noi in questi giorni lavoriamo, e lo testimoniamo attraverso piccoli video quotidiani (non so ancora a cosa serviranno). Lo facciamo con tutte le nostre fragilità quotidiane, con il fuori che entra prepotentemente nella nostra vita, ma sempre proiettati al futuro, a quando tutto sarà finito, a quando ripartiremo. E da cosa si ripartirà? Per quanto mi riguarda, dal contatto umano. Quella è la nostra infinità forza: essere uomini e condividere con altri uomini le gioie, i dolori, gli amori, le passioni.

Forse in questo momento il misantropo non è venuto a caso. E come se fosse un grande cantiere dei rapporti umani. Alceste cerca i veri rapporti umani, cerca la profondità, la verità. Penso di poter dire che il testo parli della verità. Oggi, davanti all’evidenza di essere soli e di trovarci come unico mezzo per restare in contatto con gli altri un surrogato di realtà, l’agogniamo questa realtà, speriamo di riappropriarcene e di viverla per davvero. Cerchiamo quindi la verità, proprio come Alceste e forse finalmente vivremo con intensità (cosa che dovrebbe succedere sempre a teatro) il momento presente. Ecco che allora il teatro, credo, si renderà necessario perché ci sarà bisogno di una verità che si realizzerà nella socialità. Dopo tutte le crisi d’altronde si riparte dal teatro, in questo caso non soltanto per riscoprirsi comunità, ma per riscoprire gli altri nella socialità.

Mi capita di pensare in questi giorni difficili a quanto sarà gioioso poter riscoprire il valore del corpo, della fisicità degli altri, quanto sarà meraviglioso poter fare accadere qualcosa sul palco, poterci rimettere piede insieme agli altri attori, insieme al pubblico.

Sono sicuro che ricentreremo tante cose, riscopriremo il valore del presente, dello stare insieme, della condivisione. Mi auguro che sarà un rinascimento dell’arte, in cui il teatro, soprattutto, sarà una imprescindibile necessità. Sono contento di poter avere l’onore di lavorare su questo testo adesso. Immergermi nelle sue parole mi sta aiutando a vivere questi giorni tristi, mi sta insegnando tanto e mi sta accompagnando in questo passaggio, in questa sorta di percorso di guarigione.
