“Y/N, are you ready yet? We’re going to be late, darling,” Henry shouted from downstairs in the foyer of his London flat.
 “Ten minutes, babe, I promise.”
He sighed and checked his watch for the eighth time in the last twenty minutes. You’d told him ten minutes twenty minutes ago. He should have been used to this. You’d been together for almost two years and engaged for four months, and in all that time, this was not the first time you’d taken forever and a day to get ready. He sat in the lounge chair in the foyer and pulled out to phone to answer some emails. He knew that he wouldn’t be getting to any work for the rest of the night, thanks to the event he was going to. That was if you ever came downstairs.
He’d left you in the bedroom forty minutes ago doing your make up and hair. He always loved watching you get ready. It was like a show of you getting done up before the show of him undoing you. He always watched and planned how he’d do it, where he’d start, and by the time he’d formulated a plan, he was always aroused. He also knew that you knew when he was watching. You’d make it a point to make eye contact with him at several points in your process. When you painted your lips with your chosen lip color, you’d lock eyes with him. When you sucked your cheeks in to apply whatever product it was to your cheeks, you stared into his eyes. You knew just what you were doing.
Tonight wasn’t any different. He watched you put one side of your hair up to showcase that gorgeous décolletage and had to restrain himself from going to you to pepper kisses along your skin. The look in your eyes said you wanted him to do it too. When he couldn’t handle watching the golden glow of your skin any longer, he retreated to his office to do a little work. Glancing at his watch again, he groaned, but it was then he heard the upstairs bedroom door close.
“I’m coming, I’m coming, I’m coming,” you shouted from upstairs.
He stood, buttoned his tux jacket, and adjusted his cuffs in prep to leave. The clink of your heels coming down the marbled stairs had him looking up with a smile to watch. What he saw not only took his breath away, shocked him, and annoyed him, but it also confused him. You descended the stairs in a metallic gunmetal grey type gown that incredibly left little to the imagination. As you came down the remaining steps, his eyes darted to every place your skin peeked through.
“I’m here, see I told you ten minutes.” You stopped in front of him, showing him up close just what you’d decided to wear tonight. He heard your voice, but it was mumbled. None of your words were making it to his consciousness. He was too lost in your dress.
 “Henry!”
Tumblr media
Snapping his head up to your face, he wanted to say something about how beautiful you looked, but something else came out.
“What’s wrong, baby?” Your voice was full of concern as you reached for him, but he stepped back.
 “What are you wearing?”
You reared your head back and gave him a confused look.
“What? It’s a dress. It goes perfectly with your bow tie. Come on, we’re going to be late,” you answered before you walked to the mirror in the foyer, giving him the view of the equally revealing back.
“Where the bloody hell do you think you’re going dressed like that?”
That was when you spun around with the look he knew well that said he was acting like a wanker.
 “Excuse me?”
 “I can see—everything, Y/N.”
“You’re exaggerating it’s not that bad,” you defended.
“Not that bad?” He approached you and touched the slab of fabric that hugged your breast. “This looks like if you bent down and stood, your breast will be out. Not to mention, it gives the perfect imprint of your breasts, giving the world an adequate size measurement.”
 “You’re kidding right, Henry?”
“No. Then look at this split. Why is it so high? Your entire thigh and hip are showing. Are you wearing knickers?”
“Wow, of course, I’m wearing underwear. Who do you think I am?”
“I thought I knew, but look at how you’re dressed. You have to go change,” he finished in the voice that said his decision was final.
You snorted then laughed loudly. This was not the time to provoke him, he thought.
“I don’t know who you think you are or even who you think I am that I’d let any man dictate what I wear, especially when it is appropriate enough,” you contested as you brushed past him walking to the front door.
“Y/N!” It was his dominating tone. You stopped in your tracks straightened your back and turned to him.
“You may dominate me in that bedroom upstairs, but that is the only thing you dominate me in. Just because you fuck me until I’m weak does not mean that you control me, Henry. Never make that mistake, and if it’s a meek little mouse you want, then maybe you should rethink this ring on my finger. I’ll be in the car when you’re done throwing a tantrum like a little boy.”
With that, you walked out the door, leaving it open. He stood there trying to get a grasp on his anger not only from your outfit but for what you’d just said. This was going to be a long night, he thought as he followed you out the door.
The drive was a quiet one, you kept your face turned to your side, gazing out at London as it passed, and you kept your legs crossed with your exposed thigh over the other. He knew it was you playing it up, rubbing your defiance in his face. He fell in love with you because of your independence, your determination to be your own woman, and make your own decision and not let any man control your life or destiny. It was a big turn on. Yes, you’d butt heads a few times in your relationship because of his and your equal stubbornness, but it was nothing that you couldn’t overcome and come back from stronger than ever.
Fifteen minutes into the ride, his anger dissipated and left way for him to feel the regret for his words, and it also allowed your words to affect him fully. They hurt. You knew what buttons to push, and he hated it. Every time he thought to open his mouth to say something, he swallowed the words. He knew the only thing to say was that he was sorry, but he was not ready to apologize. Part of him wasn’t sorry. The dress was revealing. He knew every man there would be gawking at you and imagining you naked or worse. He also knew if he saw the looks he’d flip out. Still, he knew he couldn’t leave things this bad. When the car stopped, and the driver got out, he took his leap.
 “Y/N,” he softly began.
“Stop. If the words out your mouth aren’t, I’m sorry, then save it, and we both know you’re not sorry.” You looked at him, and he knew you wanted him to correct you and apologize. It was then he decided to concede. Sighing, he pinched the bridge of his nose before he spoke.
 “I’m sorry.”
You look confused and surprised, but you didn’t speak. You looked as if you were waiting for something. He should have left it there.
“But--,” you scoffed and shook your head.
“Apologies don’t have but, Henry,” you said as you knocked on the glass. His door opened immediately, but he didn’t move, he just stared at you.
 “Y/N,” he softly pleaded.
“Don’t worry baby once we step out of this car we will be the perfect couple,” you said with a smile painted on your face.
Tumblr media
That was what he was afraid of, the façade. He sighed and got out of the car, and painted his own fake smile on. It was time to play a role. As he walked around the car, he waved and smiled until he opened your door and helped you out. When you stood beside him, you smiled and waved also. The two of you walked the carpet together, waving, smiling, stopping for brief interviews all the while never giving a thing away. When you were asked about your dress and complimented by countless photographers and comrades, you politely thanked them and showed it off turning at every angle. He knew it was a huge bugger off to him.
When you walked inside the event space, you leaned to his ear. “See, it was a hit.” Your eyes were cold. This was revenge now, he thought.
  -Y/N-
As the night went on, what was supposed to be a gala slash networking event for the who was who in Entertainment to rub elbows, chat, brag, and get together for recognition, you decided to use to teach your fiancé a lesson. You could not believe Henry’s audacity to assume he could dictate how you dressed. You knew he was possessive and could be downright controlling sometimes, but you’d never experienced it to this extent. The dress you were wearing wasn’t even that bad. You’d seen far worse.
As Henry mingled around the room and turned on his British charm with everyone he came across, you did the same. You knew some of the people in his circle, particularly the wives of some of his friends, and that was what you found yourself in, a circle of wives.
“I love your dress,” Elizabeth, Armie’s wife, complimented.
 “Thank you. I love yours.”
“You have a body to die for, I’m so jealous,” Sophie, Benedict’s wife, added.
You smiled your thanks, trying to stave off the wave of embarrassment that washed over you. You appreciated the compliments, but from anyone but Henry, they always made you self-conscious.
 “Y/N, right?”
Tumblr media
Looking to your left, you saw someone you knew well. “Theo?”
His smile was wide before he pulled you in for a hug. “What’re you doing here?”
“Work, but nevermind that. You look incredible.”
Theo looked you up and down as you fanned him off. “Stop, it’s just a dress.”
“A dress you look incredible in, we told her,” Elizabeth pressed.
“Theo, this is Elizabeth and Sophie.”
He shook their hands and exchanged pleasantries before all four of you talked about simple things like the event, and the weather. When Sophie and Elizabeth excused themselves, it left you and Theo alone.
“Here alone, or is Henry around here somewhere?”
“You know he’s here,” you confirmed.
“Eh, was that a slight bit of annoyance I detect? Come to regret your decision to move here or marry him?”
 “Theo,” you warned.
He smiled and shrugged. You’d been friends for the last four or so years but never anything else despite what your other friends liked to tease. Neither of you had ever made a move, and it suit you fine. You enjoyed his company even though he liked to tease Henry a lot. He always said he was so stuffy and could stand to loosen up a bit. You always teased him that it was a British thing knowing full well he was also British. It wasn’t funny to him when you did it, though.
The two of you caught up and joked before a few other actors came to join you. Before long, you were enthralled in conversation with all of them. You told stories that had each and every one of them laughing and hanging on the end of every word. Though you were fully invested in the conversation, you always knew where Henry was. When you looked at him, you always found his eyes on you. He didn’t look as if he cared about anything that was being said. He looked like he wanted to be near you, he probably did, but you wouldn’t give him the satisfaction.
You moved around the room, mingling with Theo by your side. Every man that approached you had Henry looking at you. You could feel his eyes on you, could feel the sheer commanding power that he held. His presence was strong and always affected you.
“Why is he over there looking at you as if he wished he could come over when he can? Did you have a fight?”
“Doesn’t matter,” you said as you finished your glass of champagne.
 “What happened?”
Ignoring Theo, you sat at the table. After a few moments, Theo realized you weren’t going to answer, so he sat beside you and asked again.
“It’s not important. He just overreacted about my dress.”
Theo once again looked you over, then took a sip from his glass. “Ah, the stick in the mud thought it was too revealing.”
 “Stick in the mud. Stop.”
“He’s not entirely wrong.” Your head snapped to him and gave him an incredulous look.
 “Are you serious?”
“Don’t shoot the messenger. It is revealing.”
You looked over yourself then back to Theo. “Nothing is showing but a little leg.”
“Yes. Think about it, Y/N. We get it. You’re an independent woman; you’re all about doing what you want and not having anyone control you. We get it. We love that about you. No one is debating your independence or amazingness. As a bloke, we don’t want our girlfriends ogled or even thought about inappropriately. Though gorgeous, this dress invites all of that. I’ve spotted at least fifteen gents outright checking you out.”
Glancing around, you caught a few eyes that quickly looked away. So what, you thought.
“Theo,” you began. He knew what was coming.
“I get it. I’m just giving you the perspective of a man that’s not sleeping with you.”
You sighed and nodded, deciding against speaking. What was the purpose? It was then Henry approached with a tight jaw clearing his throat.
“Hey man,” Theo began before he stood, making way for Henry to take his place in the seat.
“Good evening,” Henry muttered as he shook Theo’s outstretched hand. You almost laughed looking at Theo’s face.
“Have a good night you two lovebirds,” Theo said before he walked away.
Henry sat beside you and placed a fresh glass of champagne before you. As the two of you drank in silence, you began to think if Theo had a point. You knew the dress was sexy, but you didn’t think it was anything to get angry about. You also knew that in a relationship, you had to consider the other person’s feelings. On top of being angry about Henry’s reaction, you were also a little hurt. You’d expected him to say you looked beautiful, but he still had yet to even say it or anything remotely loving.
“Y/N,” Henry began turning his face to meet your eyes that were already on him. He didn’t speak, though. Instead, his eyes looked to bore into you as they always did. Staring at him was a love-hate thing. You loved it because they were gorgeous, but you hated it because they were powerful and always left you feeling powerless.
Before either of you could say anything, the lights dimmed, and a speaker appeared before the room. The rest of the night passed in a blur of speeches, applause, champagne, and chatter, none of which included you and Henry talking.
When you got home, you were the one to climb the steps to the bedroom first. When you got to the third step, you felt Henry’s hand wrap around your wrist, stopping you. You didn’t turn around to face him, though. It wasn’t long until you felt his chest against your back.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered before his forehead dropped to your exposed shoulder.
“I was an utter asshole. I’m sorry. I wasn’t trying to control you, I promise. There is no excuse.”
His words hung in the air. They felt good to hear. You were tired of this entire situation.
“I’m a jealous man, and even worse possessive and dominating. I should never have said what I did. Instead, I should have told you how incredible you looked, how beautiful you are.”
You turned to face him and searched his eyes.
“I should have told you that every chance I got. I’m sorry,” Henry finished.
“I’m sorry,” you began before taking a deep breath. “I shouldn’t have said what I did. I didn’t mean it.”
Henry smiled, pressing his forehead to yours. “Of course, you did.” You rolled your eyes but couldn’t stop your laugher. He knew you too well.
“I deserved it. It hurt, but I deserved it.”
 “You did.”
 “Do you forgive me?”
You pretended as if you had to think about it on a serious note playing up the amount of time it was taking. Henry smiled but didn’t look bothered, he kissed your jaw and trailed kisses along it up to your ear. You ate it up. When his lips dropped to your neck, you let out a soft moan.
“Am I forgiven, love?” A soft nibble at your neck had you grabbing at his waist that held zero percent fat. The man was built like a God.
 “I forgive you.”
As soon as the words were out, Henry crushed his lips to yours, taking control of a soul-sucking kiss. You’d wanted this all night no matter how angry you were with him you always wanted to be near him. Henry wrapped his arm around you cupping your backside, pulling you flush against him. As his lips teasingly moved across yours, his tongue swirled around yours until he was sucking it. You couldn’t breathe, but you didn’t mind or care.
Abruptly henry pulled his lips from yours and groaned. “I’ll lock up. You go ahead.”
Once inside your bedroom, you walked into the closet to find something to put on once you’d finished your shower. You didn’t hear when Henry walked in, but you felt his hand at the nape of your neck.
Tumblr media
“I have a love-hate relationship with this dress, my love. On the one hand, you look incredible in it, but on the other hand—it infuriates me.”
You smirked, looking at him in the mirror, making sure he saw that you didn’t care.
“What’re you going to do about it?” His smirk sly, and his eyes were dark. You knew the look well.
In seconds Henry had ripped your dress in half starting at your sternum. You gasped loudly.
“Henry! Do you know how much this cost?” He didn’t stop, though; he finished his handiwork with a faint smile.
“I don’t give a shit. It should be burned instead of ripped.” The material fell from your breasts before it slid down the rest of your body, leaving you in your skimpy thong.
“Huh, so you were wearing knickers after all,” Henry teased before he locked eyes with you and ripped those as well.
 “Henry!”
“You love saying my name, don’t you?” He bit your neck as his hands cupped your breasts and fondled to his heart’s content.
As he sucked and bit your neck, you could feel his thick length harden against your ass. He pushed you forcefully, so you were bent over the piece of furniture that held your undergarments. The movement sent your ass poking out for him. A lite slap across your ass had you flinging your head back to give his free hand something to hold onto. As he held your thick, coiled hair, he dropped another slap across your ass; only this one was a lot harder. Your groan was mixed with a moan that told him you liked it enough for him to do it again--so he did, three more times. By the time he’d finished, you were soaking and more than ready to receive the gift that was him.
“Do you want it?” Your eyes met again in the mirror, and you thought to be defiant, but there was no time. You desperately wanted to feel him filling you, stretching you to capacity.
“I can’t hear you, love.” Henry dropped his fingers to slide up along your slit. As he did, he groaned. You knew he could feel your wetness, and he was more than ready to dive in.
“You’re only punishing yourself, darling. The sooner you say the words, the sooner you’ll get what you want—what you crave,” Henry whispered in your ear, making sure his lips grazed your ear.
Tumblr media
“And what do I crave, Mr. Cavill?” Again, he smirked that dubious smirk of his that made your belly flip from anticipation.
“You and I both know you want this cock filling you to the hilt. All you have to do is--,” Henry circled his finger at your opening, coating his finger with your juices before bringing his finger to his lips to suck it clean, stealing your breath in the process.
“Mmm. Say the words, my love.” His voice was so deep, so husky you could feel everything he felt. You knew he needed you just as badly as you needed him. Still, your stubbornness persisted. You were testing him, knowing damn well the longer you defied him, the further your eyes would roll to the back of your head. He knew what you were doing, but you also knew he was holding on by a thread. It was obvious.
“Y/N,” Henry warned through clenched teeth. Your smile was the fuel to make his fire rage. Henry’s hand tightened in your hair, bringing your head back a little more. “It’ll only be worse for you.” You could hear him undo the zipper of his pants, and your anxiousness got the better of you. You pushed back onto him brushing your bare ass against him. Henry groaned then slapped it again. A few seconds later, you felt him rub the tip of his need across your sex. Your eyes lulled closed as a shiver erupted through you.
“Do—you—want—me?” Every pause had him dipping just a sliver of his length into your tight cavern. He knew it wouldn’t be enough. On the fourth dip, you tried to push back against him again so you could get what you wanted, but he must have been expecting it because you failed.
“Say the words, and it’s all yours, love. I’ll give you every single inch that you can take—and not take.” As if to help you decide, he dipped a little more into you, pulling a gasp from you.
 “I want it,” you whispered.
“One more time.” Henry came closer to your upturned face and waited for you to repeat the words. The look in his eye said he was enjoying this more than he should have been from how hard he felt against you.
 “I want it—fuck me, Henry!”
When he smiled, you knew you were in for it. Henry snapped his hips forward seconds after the words left your lips, filling you completely. Your shout was loud as your hand pounded the furniture.
Henry groaned loudly as he ground his hips, sending his cock to nudge against your walls and prod your cervix.
 “Bloody Hell!”
As if poked with a stick, Henry began his thrusts, but from the beginning, nothing in the way he moved said slow, or gentle. He had a mission, and teaching you a lesson was absolutely a priority right now. Every time he slammed into you, his grip in your hair would tighten, and your sex would quiver, giving him a tighter than a glove squeeze, which had him getting even louder.
“Uuugh! Christ, you’re so wet.” That was when he changed his angle. Instead of spearing forward, he added a curve as he leaned back just a little.
“Shiiiit!” He knew that was the spot for you, and he looked like he had every intention of making sure your voice was gone the next day.
 “How does it feel, love?”
“So fucking good. Yes, yes, right there!” Again, your hand pounded into the wood. You ignored the pain in your hand; the pleasure easily overpowered it.
You didn’t know how much longer you could hold on if he kept giving you strokes like this, you thought. As you did, Henry sped his strokes, and every time he connected your bodies, he rotated his hips. Before you knew it, your eyes were in the back of your head, your hand grabbing the edge of the wood as you screamed and claimed your release. Henry’s grunts got louder and louder; he was close. The knowledge of that had you throwing your ass back to meet him thrust for thrust while bringing yourself to yet another orgasm.
After a few minutes, you felt the force of his release as he tried to bury himself even deeper inside of you.
“Fuuuuck!” The sound of Henry’s near animalistic grunt had you ready for round two already.
“Oh baby,” Henry panted as he dropped across your sweat slickened back.
“Mmm, you’re going to be the death of me,” Henry added as he tried to catch his breath, breath that you still had yet to catch.
 “Me?”
You could feel the rumble of his laughter across your back before he kissed a path along your spine. When he got to your ear, he kisses it. “I put that ring on your finger for a reason. You’re my world, and the love I have for you has never been written, it is that of a man’s for his queen. You have my heart. You have my soul—I love you, Y/N,” he whispered.
Your heart swelled, making you look back at him to see a stray tear welling in his eye.
“Aw, baby. I love you; you’re my life, my king, my everything,” you said as you turned to him to clasp his chin in your hands. Once the words were out, you kissed him tenderly so he could feel your love. He could be a dominating wolf one minute, but you knew deep down he was a big softy.
His massive arms held you to him in a tight loving embrace that erased all memory of any slights or anger.
“I’ll give you till the count of ten to get your gorgeous ass in that shower, my queen,” Henry said.
You knew not to test him again, but still, you did. “Only ten? I guess I better hurry.” You pulled from him and slowly walked out of the walk-in closet. You could hear Henry chuckling behind you.
“The wolf is ravenous Y/N. I think it not wise to tempt him further,” Henry warned, creeping up behind you to nip your shoulder.
Screaming and squealing, you ran from him because every wolf loved the chase.

A Taste of What You Paid For (Rogerina x Reader)
Tumblr media
Description: Quiet doesn’t mean submissive and smart doesn’t mean inept outside school.
Notes: here’s one of the fics i never published on liz taylor cause it was a one shot! there’s a bit of a frisky scene at the end but its fine everything is fine. gender neutral WC: 1.7k
+
"I told you, we don't need a damn petsitter!"
"Watch your mouth, young lady," her mother chided harshly, her words curt on a silver tongue.
You watched on with an inner sense of looming despair, one that always popped up in your head whenever people fought in front of you. Especially when it came to family.
The Taylor family was popular simply on the reputation of their youngest daughter, Elizabeth. She was one of those girls who was insanely pretty and knew it perfectly well, using it to her advantage in every situation she could. You couldn't blame her––if you were pretty like that, you'd probably use it that way too.
That being said, your very faint school-connection to Liz in no way aided you in understanding her mother, who had employed you for the weekend. Apparently she and her husband had some sort of trip to make into London, and coming back home to sleep was more expensive than simply paying someone to take care of their cat and bird. For some reason they didn't trust Liz with that job, and you didn't care to ask why, considering the two of them were still arguing with one another.
You pursed your lips as you continued to watch with wide eyes. How long was this going to continue?
"And you had to get them?!" Liz yelled, gesturing rather violently in your direction. You flinched back instinctively.
"What's wrong with (Y/N)? Are they some sort of kleptomaniac or something? Your teachers certainly seem to like them, much more than they like you at least," her mother bit back.
Ouch. That was low. You just had good grades. It had nothing to do with behavior.
"Um, Mrs. Taylor? I have to get home soon," you interrupted quietly, ever hesitant to speak up. Both women turned to you as though in sudden realization you were still standing there.
"Of course, dear. I'm sorry.. um, you can come by Friday afternoon, and after that just once or twice a day," she said, pausing before she rooted through her purse, pulling out her wallet. From that she handed you a couple pounds, to which you thanked her and bowed your head slightly.
"Thank you. I'll, um, see you later then," you said, waving a shy good-bye to both of them before bolting out the door.
What a fucking disaster, you thought to yourself bitterly, your face screwed into a frown. Instantly the chill of fall hit you, the disappearance of the sun marking a time where your hands were best kept huddled in your pockets. The backpack on your shoulders was the only real sense of insulation you had.
Your home was a decent walk away, enough that you probably should've found a bus or cab, but the only money in your pocket was preemptive payment for petsitting you hadn't yet done. Besides, most of the busses were stocked full with workers heading home.
By the time you reached home your boot-clad feet were aching, the hard soles in your heels throbbing. Fortunately enough it was a feeling you were used to, and sleep was not hard to find when you collapsed in bed after the long day.
Pepper, the Taylor's white cat, was a friendly fellow who enjoyed a good drink. From your glass. And only your glass. No matter how you filled up his water bowl or set out glasses for him to drink from, he always returned to the one you had taken a sip out of. Eventually you kept your glass in hand, keeping it there even as you filled his bowl with food, a single kitchen lamp lighting your work.
Traditionally, your Friday nights were spent getting lost in the woods, but every now and then you needed to make some extra cash. That was precisely the reason you took up this little job here––not because you wanted to see Liz.
Not because she was really nice to look at and had a rose perfume.
No.
The creaking and slamming of a door startled you from pouring wet food into the tin bowl, making a drop of the juice land on the counter. You winced internally at the fishy smell that invaded your senses.
"The fuck – oh. You," she said from behind you. You turned to her, noting with interest the way she leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen.
"Evening," you said with a small wave.
"How's – how's the cat," she asked, a slight slur taking over her tongue as she stumbled towards you. The closer she got the more you could smell her––the perfume, the shampoo, the alcohol reeking off her mouth and clothes.
"He'll be coming along soon," you said, knowing that once he smelled the food he'd come running.
"Mm. How long have you been here?"
"In your house?"
"Mhm,” she nodded.
"Got here just a bit ago. Had to refill your cat fountain," you said. They had bought a special, indoor fountain for their cat, since he had trouble drinking. Obviously.
"My mother," Liz grumbled, setting her elbows on the counter as her shoulders went up to her ears. Blonde locks curled around her cheeks, accentuating the soft blush beneath her skin. "She thinks I can't take care of anything beside myself. That is not true."
You can't take care of yourself, either, was the first thing to come to mind, but instead you said, "why does she think that?"
"I drink too much for her liking," Liz said, sighing as she dropped her head to rest on the cool, marble countertop.
"That's alright," you said, ever so slightly distracted by finding the recycling, "I smoke too much for my mother's liking."
Liz giggled, the high melody filling the mostly-silent room. You couldn't help but grin yourself, though you turned away so she couldn't see, embarrassed of your own delight.
The moment you set the food bowl back in its' spot, Pepper came tumbling down the stairs, his puffy tail a straight line behind him.
"How long are you going to stay here?" Liz asked, almost whined, as she drunkenly spun herself around to lean her back against the counter, hooded eyes following you intently.
"A little bit longer. I have to clean your birdcage," you said as you left Pepper to find the bird. You glanced around the corner, into the living and dining rooms. "And, um... where is that? Exactly?"
"Up in my room," she said, "since Pepper won't leave her alone."
"Oh," you said softly as images ran rampant through your head.
You weren't particularly infatuated with Liz, but seeing her room would certainly be interesting, considering the amount of things you'd heard about her. Either way it would be you and her alone in a much smaller room.
For ease you pulled the trash can up the stairs with you, lugging it into her room to dispose of the birdcage floor. She led the way for you, though offered no help, not that you expected her to. While you fiddled with the cage lock, she sat on her bed with feet on the floor, one leg atop the other as she watched you in interest.
Her eyes on your neck proved to be a strong source of stress for you. How delightful––blushing from just a gaze. Liz, in her drunken stupor, didn't seem to realize just how giddy that made you.
A few minutes later you were setting out new hay and newspaper for the floor of the cage, a slight smile occurring to you whenever the bird chirped. You had yet to know the name, but she seemed nice. Her black feathers were a stark difference to Pepper's white coat.
"(Y/N)?" You heard from behind you, her voice soft and high, lulling you away from the task at hand.
"Yes?"
"Could you come here?"
You paused, taking a moment to process her request. After a moment you brushed your hands off, stepping away from the cage to approach her. As before, she was sitting on her bed with her feet in front of her, one leg resting atop the other. Long legs in tall, black boots led up to her hips and waist, where small, flared shorts sat with a belt tight around the jean loops. With her puffy button down leading to her small waist, she was an image so hot it casted blushing heat upon your face.
You tried not to let it show.
She beckoned you closer still, and after another moment's thought you obeyed. As you did so she shifted, placing her legs on either side of your standing ones, with her eyes set dead upon yours.
"Do you remember me? From our classes," she asked softly, craning her neck to look up at you.
"Certainly. Literature and anatomy."
"Mmm," she hummed with a smile, nodding. "I love watching you give presentations in English."
"Really?" You chuckled. "Why?"
"You've got a lot of passion," she said, and the tips of her fingers brushed against yours. You froze up at the sensation, but she only continued with, "I like that."
"I just like overanalyzing stories."
"And you're good at it!"
"Well, thank you, but... I'm sure that's not the reason why you asked for my attention," you said, smiling slyly. Her bravado fell as she bit her bottom lip.
"Maybe not," she murmured, and though her drunken cheeks reddened further, she held her eye contact with you.
Before either of you could speak, you leant quickly down and pressed your lips against hers. She inhaled sharply, but did not move, which you took as a sign to gently move, kneeling before her for ease. Despite being wedged between her legs with her thighs squeezing your middle, going further than this kiss didn't occur to you. Instead you remained enraptured with the feel of her moving against you, her hand cradling your jaw as she pulled you nearer, her intoxicating heat circling your head.
She moved to keep you even closer, attempting to use her legs to pull you on top of her. You hummed––though didn't break your kiss––as you tried to force yourself to move away. She was drunk, but you knew if you said anything about it she’d still try to sleep with you anyway.
"No," you said when at last you could manage to part. The abandoned look in her face had your stomach twisting. You kept an even tone as you continued. "I've got to get home. I finished my job, didn't I?"
"Oh, you tease," she hissed as she reclaimed her pride, dragging you in by your tie to kiss you again. You allowed it for a few seconds more, playfully tugging at her clothes before you stood, straightening yourself out.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" You said, as always remembering your upcoming tasks.
"That's what we're paying you for."
"Got it," you said with a wink, slinging yourself out by the doorframe.

The Demon Earl’s Deal, A Rumbelle Big Bang Fic
With the fate of Avonlea in the balance, Belle French will do anything to save her village, including making a deal with the Demon Earl of Lonsdale himself.
This story is part of @rumbellebigbang . A huge thank you to the runners of this great program as well as to my partner @rumpledspinster . She was a wonderful partner throughout the process and continually surprised and delighted me with her scene interpretations, fresh ideas and supported me every step of the journey. You can see her artwork for this story here.
Chapter One
Wales, March 1810
Everyone in Avonlea knew the story of the Demon Earl.
Robert Gold had first appeared at Askham Hall as a young child to everyone’s surprise, including his father, Lord Malcolm Gold, Lord of Lonsdale. There was no use denying the parentage; the young boy was Malcolm’s spitting image.
The surprising series of events was chalked up to youthful indiscretions and the boy was promptly shipped off to boarding schools. Avonlea almost forgot about the Lord of Lonsdale’s bastard son entirely until the day when he had returned to Askham Hall as a wedded man with a bride on his arm.
The Demon Earl lasted less than a year before he decamped back to London. He left his young wife in Wales with her father-in-law and her new mother-in-law, a lady younger than she was.
Stories leaked out from Askham Hall about the devious debauchery Lord Robert engaged in while he was in London. Servants often noticed the ladies of the house in tears, and the Lord of Lonsdale in fits of rage over the reports in the paper about his son cutting a swath through every boudoir of London.
He ordered his errant son back home but less than a year later...Lord Malcolm Gold and his daughter-in-law were dead. Robert Gold disappeared the very same night and had not been heard from in four years.
Until today.
Standing along the path overlooking the valley, Belle French gazed out at Askham Hall. Smoke curled up from the chimneys which meant the rumors were true; after four years, the Lord of Lonsdale had finally come home.
No one had known where he had gone. There had been no word, no whisper, not even a mention of the errant lord in the society papers. So, of course, in his absence, speculation had run rampant throughout Avonlea.
Some said the new Lord Lonsdale had pledged his soul to the devil and had since been off cavorting with demons. Others whispered he had gone off to profit from Napoleon’s bloody war on the Continent, while the bolder among them insisted he had gone to sell secrets to the dictator himself in exchange for refuge in France.
Rumors varied from source to source but everyone agreed upon one thing: Lord Robert Gold, was capable of anything.
Which was why, despite all the horrific rumors, Belle was on her way to Askham Hall.
--
Gold had been home for less than twenty-four hours and he already felt buried alive. His solicitor, Sidney Glass, had been firm that he could not put this off any longer, so Gold had returned to Askham Hall to put an end to this chapter of his life, once and for all. If he was truly going to be free of his past, he had to sever the last tie, the matter of the estate.
The halls were too quiet. The few remaining servants avoided him, scurrying out of his way less he curse them. He had heard the whispers, he knew the rumors. If he occasionally began to mutter something under his breath in Greek, just to watch a maid hurry away in terror, it was only for a moment’s respite from the eyes following him from room to room.
The head of house was the sole exception. “My lord,” Dove announced as he swung open the bedroom’s door, uninvited and unannounced. “I’ve brought you up the tea you requested.”
Turning from the window, Gold frowned. “I don’t recall requesting anything, Dove.”
The older man bowed. “My apologies,” he said as he left the tray on the table. HIs eyes flickered in disapproval around the guest bedroom. “We’ve finished airing out the state chambers,” he declared. “Perhaps those would be more suitable?”
Gold flinched. He had no interest in using his father’s rooms. He would rather barricade the door entirely then so much as take a step inside. As for his old rooms, it had merely taken one look at his bed for the memories of Milah to return.
These past four years, he had managed to banish her from his mind but her ghost had been awaiting him in their marriage bed. So, he had retreated to a guest room on the other side of the manor.
Let the household gossip about his choice of rooms. It did not matter to him. He was only here long enough to break the trust, to sell these cursed stones and leave the ghosts to some other poor sod.
The head of house lingered, clearly about to make his case on why a lord should not be staying in these lesser rooms. Uninterested in a lecture, Gold brushed past Dove towards the door. “I’ll be in my study,” he grumbled.
Arriving in the study, Gold tried and failed to find something to occupy his time when a flash of amber caught his eye. A bottle of brandy had been left out with a tumbler nearby. He stared at it for a long moment, debating.
Finally, figuring he had nothing else to do, and facing down a long afternoon of boredom and painful memories, he uncapped the brandy and poured himself a tall glass. It may not be the answer, but it was a solution.
--
Despite growing up in Avonlea, Belle had never actually been this close to Askham Hall. The great stone facade sprawled in every direction against the horizon of the sky, the dark stone glistening in the spring sun as if alive.
Belle lingered upon the stairs, mustering her courage. She had no experience with lords or great houses, but there was no helping that now. Steeling her spine, she stepped to the knocker, raised up to indicate the master of the house was at home and knocked.
It reverberated in the inner caverns of the great house. Belle pulled self-consciously on her sleeve and reached up to fix her bonnet. She had taken time to arrange her appearance just so, but now that she was actually here, she felt undressed. It did not take long for the door to open to reveal a somber fellow, whom Belle recognized at once as Askham Hall’s head of house, Dove.
Everyone in Avonlea knew the skeleton staff still employed by the errant lord; they were fortunate compared to the rest of Avonlea, with steady pay and lodgings while the rest of Avonlea had declined in the years that had followed the tragedies.
“Good afternoon,” Belle greeted. “I’m here to speak to Lord Lonsdale.”
The head of house recognized her as well. Being the town’s schoolmistress lent her a certain air of notoriety. “Miss French,” he said, though he did not open the door. “I don’t believe his lordship is receiving anyone today.”
She had not expected to be turned away at the door. She felt a bit silly that she had not considered that possibility. She plastered her best smile upon her face. “It’s a simple matter,” she said, which was not exactly true. “Perhaps Lord Lonsdale has just a moment?”
Dove wavered but with a slight tilt of his head, he gestured for her to follow after him. The hall was as great as Belle had expected. It was white marble with a great chandelier hanging overhead, glistening in the early spring sunlight but there was an unearthly stillness as if the hall was awaiting something.
Dove escorted Belle down a long corridor. Every room they passed showed signs of neglect and age, cluttered and crammed with furnishings. It was a shame to see such a beautiful house brought low but if the rumors were to be believed, this house had seen terrible things and perhaps it was for the best.
Caught up in staring at her surroundings, Belle almost walked straight into Dove when he stopped to open the library door. “Miss Belle French to see you, my lord,” Dove announced without so much as a look back at her.
Belle did not give the earl a chance to refuse to admit her. Seizing her courage, she walked straight past Dove into the library.- only to falter at the sight before her.
She hadn’t known what she expected the Demon Earl to look like, but it was not this. The earl was standing at a window, clad only in his shirt sleeves. The sun cut through the thin fabric to show the planes and lines of his frame beneath the muslin.
He was not a particularly physically intimidating man but there was a stillness about him, an air of power, that proved that this was indeed the man who had spawned so many legends in Avonlea. He was not a typically handsome man but there was something about him that drew the eye, invited one to look closer.
The door closed behind her as Dove departed. Jolted out of her reverie, Belle turned back to the door, rather wishing the head of house had lingered. Belle had never spoken to a member of the peerage before and suddenly felt wrong-footed, uncertain where to start.
When she did not speak, the earl lifted an eyebrow at her. “And who would you be?”
“Belle French, my lord.”
He waved his arm, the glass in his hand catching the sunlight. “Yes, I know that, Miss French, as you were just announced mere seconds ago. I meant who are you to me? It is considered the highest of impropriety for a lady to call upon a lord unaccompanied without so much as an introduction.”
Biting back an angry retort, she managed, “I’m the schoolmistress in Avonlea.”
“Ah.” Gold waved his hand and turned back to the window. “Barely home a day and already they come knocking,” he muttered to himself before saying loudly for her benefit,” I assume you are here seeking funds for a worthy cause. I’d advise you to have your husband or father apply to my steward in the future rather than inconveniencing me. Good day, Miss French.”
At his curt dismissal, Belle’s temper flickered and caught. “I am unwed and my father has been dead and buried ten years this August. Besides, this is not some simple matter for your steward, my lord.”
“It never is,” he said over his shoulder. He strolled over a decanter-covered cabinet and refilled the glass in his hand. “Everyone thinks their matters are too important for a steward. I wonder what I pay him for. ”
“Lord Lonsdale,” Belle said, starting again. ”I’m here because the people of Avonlea are suffering, and you are the only one in a position to help them. It will cost you little in time or money.”
“I don’t care how little it costs,” Gold snapped. “I don’t want anything to do with your village or the people in it. Which includes you.” He gestured toward the door. “So, I suggest you leave before things get uncivil.”
From her perspective, things were already uncivil, so Belle did not see that as a reason to leave. She gave up on any niceties, planting her hands on her hips. “I am not asking for your help, I am demanding it as your role of lord requires of you. Now, shall I explain now or wait for you in the parlor until you are sober?”
Lord Gold lowered his glass. “I wouldn’t speak to me like that if I were you,” he warned as he took a step closer. “Last I checked, you were in my home. Have a care how you speak to me.”
Belle had prepared for a certain level of antagonism and had meant to meet it with a calm, level head but as usual, her temper was starting to get a hold of her. “Your father was a good man,” Belle reminded him. “He did a great deal for the people of Avonlea. The poor fund, the chapel-”
“I am not my father.”
She had touched a nerve. Belle crossed her arms and blustered, “No, it appears the apple has fallen rather far from the tree. Since you have inherited, you haven’t done a thing for the estate or the village.”
“Nor do I intend to,” he picked his drink back up and finished it in one swallow.
He meant it too.
“How can you say such a thing?” she asked him. “No one is that heartless.”
Gold smiled. “Miss French, your innocence is touching.” He leaned against the edge of his table and crossed his arms. “You had best depart before I shatter any of your other dearly beloved illusions.”
She gaped at him. “Don’t you care that people are suffering?”
Gold thought for a moment. “No.”
“What would change your mind?” Belle pressed him. She had not come all this way to just give up
Gold waved his hand. “My help is not available for any price you would be willing to pay.”
“How can I know that unless you name your price?”
This caught his attention. He stilled and the air in the room shifted. “You want to make a deal?” he drawled, taking a step closer to her. He crooked a finger and beckoned her closer. “And what exactly do you have to offer, Miss French?”
Too late, Belle realized what could be insinuated from her reckless words. A flush spread across her face but she tried not to avert her eyes from his smug countenance as he sat upon the desk.
When she could not find her voice, Gold stood, victorious. “I fail to see why I should spend my time and energy when there is nothing in it for me.” He retrieved his glass and poured himself another glass of brandy, returning to the other side of the desk. “Close the door on your way out, Miss French.”
Belle was tempted to do just that, but she had to try one last time, not for her sake but for the sake of Avonlea. “I will not leave until you have named a price for your aid.”
The Demon Earl stared back at her, his face an impassive mask. ‘You will not like my answer.”
No, she rather thought she wouldn’t. Still. “At least name your cost.”
A shadow crossed his face, calculating and triumphant. “I’ll name my price, but it’s one I’m confident that you will refuse to pay.”
“What is it?” she asked warily.
“What I want,” he paused for a deep drink of brandy, “is you.”

A bit of writing
Thought I’d post a bit of writing I’ve been working on, not much else to it.
I was never a fan of being stabbed, it's neither desirable nor particularly pleasant. But I suppose we aren't entitled to controlling every event in our lives, that is left to fate. Though if there is someone out there writing our fates they must have it in for me. These thoughts danced through my mind as I fell to the ground in pain clutching a wound as blood squirted through it but at least they’d had the courtesy to remove the blade albeit further cutting through the flesh. No, it was not a pleasant experience at all but to change the subject for a time I suppose an exclamation is in order detailing how I found myself in this ‘predicament’, one which I will happily provide.
You could stay it started last night. I was sat, half asleep, on a chair after a notably boring day. My sword hung in its scabbard seemingly sharing the boredom with its silverlike blade looking duller than ever. Four others lay around in a similar manner, all occupying themselves with mundane tasks like sharpening weapons and making futile attempts at small talk or just in a similar state to myself. Lucky for you I won't ramble and spread the past boredom, I’ll skip straight to the action. The door flung open and a rather small man with glasses, a neat white shirt and a clean blue tie entered, his name was Gerald. “A group of Orks is on the move over at West End so if you five could be the smallest shed useful intercept them.” and with that, he ran out.
At long last, the saviour from our boredom had arrived and with a wave of excitement I jumped up “You heard the man.” Swords were seethed, pistols holstered and gear donned with a buzz of excitement and relief. In as little as thirty seconds we were out of the doors, maybe a bit too quickly as it slammed into Gerald as he was talking to a colleague.
“Watch it there you idiots, you nearly crumpled my shirt.”
After a rushed apology we were of again. Dragons Keep was a large square semicircle building consisting of four floors which I'll describe the contents of later. We continued on across the marble floor and through the metal stairway doors. Halfway up the stairs, a group walking down the stairs blocked the way so I leapt against the wall and pushed with me feat and arms to launch myself over the railings onto the next floor. One of them looked up.
“In a hurry.”
“Yep.”
One of my companions sighed “He’s mainly just showing off.”  and we continued on.
On the third floor, a roof exit appeared around a corner blocked by a Dragon Guard. The Dragon Guards are the are the elite foot soldiers and guards of Dragons Keep. Unlike the Niht wiga (Night warriors, us) they were clad in heavy, jet black plate armour and wielded halberds Their heads were encased in a helmet similar to the rest of their armour and the only part of the guard's body visible was his eyes through the lifted visor.
The guard saluted “Blade master Aethelwulf, sir, what is the nature of your exit?”
“Just hunting some Orks, ordered by Gerald.”
“The only one who wears a shirt and tie?”
I smirked at the thought “That's the one.”
He chuckled “Alright good luck, sir.”
After the guard pressed a button the door slid into the wall and as we stepped forward the cold air hit me like a soothing breeze.
For a second I felt every action in my body, the stable and deep beating of my heart provided a comforting feeling while the rush of blood ran through my veins. I’ve seen a lot in my time but the beauty of London at night still hit sharply but nestled into a warm feeling. A vast black ocean crashed against the dancing lights of the city, themselves an array of bright beautiful colours. The streets, although quieter, still seemed alive as the hum of traffic and pedestrians echoed in between the metal colossus that were the skyscrapers. The Thames sparkled as the light bounced off it and I saw a ferry glide down its water. A plane flew overhead, its flashing lights preventing the dark night from enveloping it. While zoomed out view it resembled paradise. My sense of awe was abruptly cut short by an annoying voice “You gonna stand here all night? I'm sure we can handle this.”
I looked at him “Good joke.” and started to run.
“Do we even know where in West End they are.” Instead of the annoying one, I’ll call him Jack.
“Yes, their being tracked and are on your map.”
He checked his arm “Someone's in hurry.”
I sped up “Which means we are too.”
We leapt over vents, ducked under pipes and flew between buildings with each landing accompanied by eight thuds from boots. I performed this with a familiarity gained over the years, each movement was seemingly automatic and when combined jumps, rolls and sprints only increased my speed even more. The cold air rushed against me as I pierced through it and the familiar sound added to the comfort and relaxation. I let the darkness that occupied the unlit rooftops envelop me and it filled my body but not in the negative way often associated with it, no the darkness seemed to fill a gap in my soul that I just about felt whenever away from its soft comforting hands. I wrapped myself in it and truly felt at peace, however it suddenly retracted almost painfully as a distant roar echoed through the sky that would normally be swallowed up by the streets below but up here it sailed uninterrupted and although annoyed at being ripped from the comfort I smiled, this would be fun.  Eventually, the residential houses became bright stores covered in billboards and promotions, the quiet streets became bustling commercial centres and the relaxed, calm residents became loud and annoying shoppers. Call me cynical but I found most people in areas like this annoying. However we can’t really let people be massacred by the Orks, it just wouldn't be very chivalrous.
I checked my wrist at half ten just as we came across a taller building that seemed to tower over its dominion, if buildings had a societal structure but I’ll leave out the relevant philosophy in that regard.
I looked backwards “Map says the Orks are near so we'll climb this to have a look.”
This time Ezilda spoke a tad playfully with her almost stereotypical English accent “Lead the way, but be careful with that back of yours.”
I glared at her “Kids”, and leapt onto the building.
The apartment block was covered in a dotted layer of plant pots, window sills and railings. I worked my way up leaping from window to window until a slightly larger gap appeared in between the windows. My gloved hands grasped a railing on top of the window and I crouched down on a plant pot. As I stretched my legs mid jump the plant pot cracked, wobbled a little and snapped off with a painful shriek of metal. It fell through the air forcing Jacob to launch himself from its path before crashing into a thankfully deserted street.
“Oi watch it! You trying to get me killed?”
“I’m saving that satisfaction for later.”
Ezilda looked up “If your done redecorating and arguing there are Orks to kill.” With a sigh, I moved on.
After less than a minute of climbing, we leapt onto the top of the apartment block with ease. The view was similar to that of Dragon’s Keep but lighter due to the commercial buildings. I scanned the sprawling streets until my eyes locked onto a green mass moving over the rooftops. At first, they were just a small green mass but once I pointed them out and looked through my binoculars the mass became the distinguishable forms of Orks. They were a large green humanoid with bulging limbs and massive chests. Their heads were large and hosted an often fierce face with a large tusked mouth. They carried a variety of weapons including axes, hammers and even the occasional jagged sword. The beasts were clothed in furs and animal hides with often carried skulls and bones of defeated those. Some were tattooed with crude red and black patterns or violent depictions. The immense weight landing on rooftops would be loud if not for enchantments from Orc mages, the Orak. I’ll spare you from that grim description for now.
I lowered my binoculars “Well there they are, loud and boisterous as always. It's a wonder they aren't seen or heard enchantment or not.”
“And the people below don’t even know of the great danger that could drop down and slaughter them at any moment, it’s a weird and unsettling thought.”
“But we’re the thing that stops them, and the threat of exposure that would tip ours and everyone else's world upside down. If they find Orks even the great hidden Dwarven and Elven cities won’t be able to hide for long. I can’t even imagine the effects of that.”
Now Delphin spoke, “And we’d all be trapped in the middle of the chaos.”
This was followed by a small silence as simulations played through our minds, the cold, biting wind picked up and blew against us and its animal-like howl was the only nearby sound.
I checked my sword “Well it seems the moods darkened a bit so why don’t we indulge in a bit of Ork hunting.”
And with a smile, we descended the building and returned to the lower rooftops.

Conrad Architects completes marble-clad home overlooking Melbourne skyline
A roof terrace and pool with views over Melbourne's skyline feature at the Grange Residence, a marble-clad house by Australian studio Conrad Architects.
Located in the suburb of Toorak, the four-bedroom dwelling was commissioned by interior designer Lauren Tarrant, who also created the home's interiors.
Conrad Architects has completed the Grange Residence in Melbourne
Melbourne-based Conrad Architects described the Grange Residence as a "split form of minimalist stone blocks", which are clad in acid-etched marble.
Its design was informed by local planning regulations that required different elevation heights on each boundary.
The house is clad in acid-etched marble
Inside, the living spaces are organised to create an "intuitive and rhythmic journey", with a gradation from private spaces to bright, open areas with outward views via the home's central stair.
This staircase, designed as a "sculpted element suspended within the otherwise rectilinear arrangement of spaces," has been finished in polished plaster and is illuminated by a skylight.
The house is planned around a central stair illuminated by a skylight
"Much of the planning was dictated by the topography, yet we sought to accentuate the experience of entering the house, moving through it, and the view being revealed," explained the studio's founder Paul Conrad.
At the entrance, a small stair leads to the upper ground floor, immediately framing views out across a large living and dining area that opens onto a terrace with an infinity pool.
The staircase is designed with a sculptural aesthetic
"The home's entry floor level is intentionally raised to generate a sense of 'stepping up' to a lookout," explained the studio.
Below this is the lower ground floor, which contains the home's bedrooms, and the basement level that comprises a garage, gym and utility room.

"Bedrooms are nestled below the entry level, creating a quiet sanctuary of private spaces, each opening of the landscape," added the studio.
The home's upper floors are given over to large living, dining and office spaces that open onto a pair of stepped roof terraces.

Bronze-coloured metal has been used for the frames and shutters of the upper-level openings and is also used to surround the rotating glazed doors that lead out onto the terraces.
Internally, concrete, stone and polished plaster have been used to create sleek and minimal spaces, complemented by pale furnishings and brass hardware.

From stunning lakes and epic mountains, to adventurous actions and stylish lodges, this Switzerland itinerary takes you on a whistle-stop tour of the nation’s highlights.
In the case of magical European adventures, a visit via Switzerland undoubtedly comes excessive on the record. It’s a compact sufficient nation to suit loads into one journey, however numerous sufficient to see and do loads.
I like which you can begin the day in a cosmopolitan metropolis, by the afternoon you might be biking previous a gorgeous lake and by the night you could possibly be snowboarding within the mountains! What number of locations provide that a lot selection?
Whereas there are many stunning spots you could possibly go to, I’m going to information you thru a route that provides a little bit of all the things, and provides you an summary of the very best issues to do in Switzerland.
It’s a visit I went on December with Most well-liked Accommodations, the world’s largest unbiased resort model, representing 750 lodges, resorts and residences throughout 85 nations. Nevertheless, it’d be equally as stunning (and loads much less snowy) in summer time months. Both means, you’ll go by Lake Geneva, snap pictures of the Matterhorn and luxuriate in all of the chocolate and cheese you could possibly dream of! What extra might you need on a Swiss street journey?!
Watch the video for a flavour of the journey, then discover out extra about our superior Switzerland itinerary…
Finest time to go to Switzerland
Switzerland is an all-year vacation spot, however you’ll have to determine what sort of vacation you wish to go on earlier than deciding when to go to. These are your two principal choices….
A snow-filled, winter wonderland journey, with a keep within the mountains and loads of icy actions.
A sunshine-filled spring or summer time journey, the place you spend each second exterior, climbing, biking and having fun with lush valleys.
When it comes to temperatures, you may count on highs in summer time of 26 levels within the cities and lows in winter of -30 (within the mountains). With altitude to take care of, you may count on fairly a distinction in temperatures between cities like Geneva and high-alpine villages like Zermatt.
I ought to point out Switzerland is notoriously costly. There are methods to maintain costs down, however I feel it’s someplace to avoid wasting for a particular vacation – maybe a honeymoon, birthday or anniversary. Benefit from the plush lodges, gourmand eating places and create some particular reminiscences.

The way to get to Switzerland
There are many flights to Geneva and Zurich every day. From London it’s a fast journey (underneath an hour and a half) and for those who e book a window seat, you’ll be rewarded by beautiful views of the Swiss Alps in your journey.
My return flights from London had been round £150 (together with baggage), reserving simply three weeks earlier than travelling. In the event you plan additional prematurely, or are capable of take the earliest flights of the day, you’ll find offers for underneath £50 return. Whereas I’ve talked about it’s most likely not a rustic to go to on a finances, the flights are extremely affordable.
Tumblr media
Lake Geneva from Montreux, Switzerland
In the event you’re already primarily based in mainland Europe, there are many trains connecting all the foremost cities and cities too, together with Zurich, Geneva, Bern and Lausanne.
When you’ve reached Switzerland I’d advocate hiring a automobile so you may discover the nation by yourself time. It’s a gorgeous nation for a street journey, particularly when you get into the alps.
If driving doesn’t fill you with pleasure, then don’t fear – most locations are accessibly by public transport. You would possibly discover it useful to select up Swiss Journey Move which covers transport within the nation by rail, street and waterway, and is out there for journeys between Three days and 15 days.
How lengthy to spend in Switzerland?
I’d advocate spending 5 days in Switzerland to actually really feel such as you’ve had a flavour of the nation as a complete. Nevertheless, for those who’re restricted to a shorter size of time, you could possibly cram an honest overview of the nation into three well-planned days.
A 5-Day Switzerland Itinerary
There are many locations you could possibly go to, however I’ve targeted on three principal areas – Lausanne / Lake Geneva, Saas-Price within the Swiss Alps, and Zermatt near the Matterhorn.
LAUSANNE ITINERARY
Discover town of Lausanne
Lausanne is a really fairly metropolis, with a shocking Gothic cathedral, historic buildings with vibrant facades and a buzzy procuring scene. I’d advocate a wander via town centre, climbing the Escaliers du Marché (picket stairs which might be over 400 years previous) to the cathedral, then climbing to the highest of the tower for an excellent panoramic view of town.

Take a stroll alongside the sting of Lake Geneva and also you’ll see boats coming and going, with stunning views of the snow-topped Swiss Alps within the background. There are many eating places on this a part of town, many with stunning lake views.
I took these pictures from Montreux, a brief drive from Lausanne. Simply have a look at how clear the water is!

Amazing places to visit in Europe
Tumblr media
Europe is an amazing destination with scenic beauty , dazzling artistic and culinary diversity & epic history- the birthplace of democracy in Athens, the graceful canals of Venice, the Renaissance art of Florence, the Napoleonic splendour of Paris, and the multi layered historical and cultural canvas of London. Below are some of the interesting places in Europe. Colosseum This is Rome’s great gladiatorial arena and is the most thrilling of the city's ancient sights. Inaugurated in AD 80, the 50,000-seat Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was clad in travertine and covered by a huge canvas awning held aloft by 240 masts. Inside, tiered seating encircled the arena, itself built over an underground complex (the hypogeum) where animals were caged and stage sets prepared. Games involved gladiators fighting wild animals or each other. The Colosseum's interior was divided into three parts: the arena, cavea and podium. The arena had a wooden floor covered in sand to prevent the combatants from slipping and to soak up the blood. Trapdoors led down to the underground chambers and passageways beneath the arena floor – the hypogeum . Animals in cages and sets for the various battles were hoisted up to the arena by a complicated system of pulleys. The cavea , for spectator seating, was divided into three tiers: magistrates and senior officials sat in the lowest tier, wealthy citizens in the middle and the plebs in the highest tier. Women (except for vestal virgins) were relegated to the cheapest sections at the top. The podium , a broad terrace in front of the tiers of seats, was reserved for emperors, senators and VIPs. With the fall of the Roman Empire in the 5th century, the Colosseum was abandoned. In the Middle Ages it became a fortress occupied by two of the city's warrior families: the Frangipani and the Annibaldi. Later, it was plundered of its precious travertine, and marble stripped from it was used to make huge palaces such as Palazzo Venezia, Palazzo Barberini and Palazzo Cancelleria. The top tier and hypogeum are open to the public by guided tour only. Visits require advance booking.
Tumblr media
Eiffel Tower No one could imagine Paris today without it. But Gustave Eiffel only constructed this elegant, 320m-tall signature spire as a temporary exhibit for the 1889 World Fair. Luckily, the art nouveau tower’s popularity assured its survival. Prebook tickets online to avoid long ticket queues. Lifts ascend to the tower’s three levels; change lifts on the 2nd level for the final ascent to the top. Energetic visitors can walk as far as the 2nd level using the south pillar’s 704-step stairs. Refreshment options in the tower include the 1st-floor 58 Tour Eiffel, the sublime 2nd-floor Le Jules Verne, and, at the top, a champagne bar. La Sagrada Família If you have time for only one sightseeing outing, this should be it. La Sagrada Família inspires awe by its sheer verticality, and in the manner of the medieval cathedrals it emulates, it’s still under construction after more than 100 years. When completed, the highest tower will be more than half as high again as those that stand today. Unfinished it may be, but it attracts around 2.8 million visitors a year and is the most visited monument in Spain. The most important recent tourist was Pope Benedict XVI, who consecrated the church in a huge ceremony in November 2010. Tower of London The unmissable Tower of London (actually a castle of 22 towers) offers a window into a gruesome and compelling history. This was where two kings and three queens met their death and countless others were imprisoned. Come here to see the colourful Yeoman Warders (or Beefeaters), the spectacular Crown Jewels, the soothsaying ravens and armour fit for a very large king. To get your bearings, take the entertaining (and free) guided tour with any of the Beefeaters. Hour-long tours leave every 30 minutes from the bridge near the main entrance; the last tour is an hour before closing. Book online for cheaper rates for the Tower. The Caban – Bangor University
Heading into Bangor once again on a rainy afternoon, I noticed this unusual looking sculpture at Bangor University.
It is called The Caban. Seems like the locals don’t really like it.
Unveiled in 2016. It was sculpted by Joep van Lieshout.
Something to do with Quarrymen.
This view from near Storiel.
Main Building of Bangor University.
Grade I Listed Building
Road University College of North Wales Main Building (Original Courtyard Ranges only)
History
The University was founded in 1884 after the city of Bangor was chosen as the University’s North Wales site. First established of the former Penrhyn Arms Hotel; the present Penrallt site was donated in 1902.
Built 1907-11 by Henry T Hare, architect of London; chosen following a competition assessed by Sir Aston Webb and with other entrants including W D Caroe. The designs were modified by the University (Isambard Owen in particular) to take full advantage of the site. Contractors were Messrs Thornton and Sons of Liverpool; cost ca £175,000. Foundation stone laid by Edward VII on 9 July 1907; opened 14 June 1911.
"Collegiate Tudor" style with Arts and Crafts influences; Hare also carried it "generally of late Renaissance character". Designed around two courtyards, the larger of which was never completed (later enclosed with ranges by Sir Percy Thomas 1966-1970). The entire scheme is linked and focused upon the cathedral like central tower. Buff coloured Cefn stone in snecked courses with freestone dressings and flat buttresses; slate roofs with parapet and stone chimney stacks. Mullioned and transomed windows with leaded lights. Tudor style down-pipes etc dated 1909. Metalwork by William Bainbridge Reynolds of London. The building was described in his obituary as Hare’s finest work.

Steep roof, crenellated parapet and bellcote with lantern and spirelet. Tall segmental headed hall windows, double-transomed and with panel tracery; projecting flat roof ground floor with entrances to either end, deeply recessed doors. Left hand end pavilion had central stepped buttress flanked to 2nd floor by 2 segmental headed windows with unusual tear-drop oculi; right hand pavilion is lower with dentil cornice over 3-light window.
The original main entrances if on the SW gable end of this range. Broad gable with Tudor octagonal end turrets and Baroque niches containing statue of Lewis Morris to apex. Central segmental headed 4-light double-transomed and panel traceried window with flanking buttresses. Advanced below is a triple arched porch with panelled pilasters, coasts of arms and Latin inscription dated 1911. Enriched spandrels over recessed entrances with double doors and lugged architraves to each. This has a stronger Arts and Crafts feel to it – 4-light gable window, crenellated broad end pilasters with narrow lights (?stair projection) and grills to lower windows.
The enclosed NE courtyard is terraced with similar detail to that on the exterior of each range. The Hall range is at the top and has an ivy clad ground floor projection. The inner side of the SE range is symmetrical; lower gabled projection with polygonal corner turrets, lateral chimney breasts and frontis-piece with 3-light transomed window over scrolled inscription and round arched entrance. Six 2nd floor and three 1st floor segmental headed windows to either side; projecting ground floor. To SW the range is dominated by the tower’s 6-storey NE face; including splayed oriel with crenellated parapet and recessed plain Venetian window; lowest stage splayed out. Twin gabled 3-storey block projects to right of the tower matching similar projection opposite (NE range).
The 4-tier terrace has rubble walls, freestone copings and ball finials.

Stained glass windows at SE end by Dudley Forsyth of London 1910, the classical subject and signed "Architectus Dedit" with the monogram of a hare. Short arms of the passages lead off to the Library, that to the 1st floor contained a porcelain museum. The finest single room is the Council Chamber on 1st floor – segmental vaulted ceiling with panelled Jacobean plasterwork and coats of arms of the Welsh Princes full height wainscoting, segmental pedimented doorcases and ashlar fireplaces and overmantels with panelled and fireplaces. Also contains 2 busts by W Goscombe John, one of William Cadwallader Davies and another of Sir Isambard Owen.

Troy Wharf
The purpose built high quality Troy Wharf office building for the Marble and Granite Centre is located on an industrial site set within the green belt near Rickmansworth. The four storey building is partially submerged into the landscape on three sides within a disused concrete retaining wall. The new building projects above the ground disguising itself to the lake with a south facing mono pitch green roof, creating a fully structural glazed facade overlooking the site. The building utlises many sustainable features including a ground source heat pump for heating and cooling and ventilation heat recovery system throughout.
What was the brief? The brief for the building was to provide sustainable high quality office accommodation for the Marble and Granite Centre a leading importer and distributor of natural stones in the UK.
What are the sustainability features? The building incorporates the following sustainable features: 1. The building is heated and cooled via a geothermal heating system. Three 100 meter bore holes in front of the building provide warm water to a heat pump which in turn supply a fully integrated underfloor heating system and ceiling mounted fan coils. 2. Ventilation to the building is managed by an air supply and extract fan with heat exchanger to minimise heat loss. 3. The building incorporates a south facing sedum green roof, which helps to retain surface rain water and increases biodiversity on site. 4. The building reuses an existing insitu concrete retaining wall there by maintaining the embodied carbon on site and minimising the structure for the new building.
What building methods were used? Building methods included: – 1. The building is supported on a new concrete raft foundation supporting a steel structural frame. 2. The new composite floor slabs providing lateral stability to the existing walls. A drained cavity tanking system was designed to deal with the high water table and large area of retaining walls. 3. Internally the unobstructed office areas on each floor are maximised by the positioning of the lift, stair and services at the rear of the plan. The basement provides storage and changing areas along with plant and utility space. 4. The use of natural stone to the floor, stair and work surfaces complements the internal glazed partitions maintaining a light and airy feel to the interiors.
How is the project unique? The project is unique in the following areas: – 1. The four storey building is partially submerged into the landscape on three sides within a disused concrete retaining wall. 2. The new building projects above the ground disguising itself to the lake with a south facing mono pitch green roof, creating a fully structural glazed façade overlooking the site. 3. The building is located within a protected Green Belt area therefore the design had to demonstrate no adverse impact on this sensitive environment. 4. The integration of energy saving features ensured the building is an exemplar in sustainable design.
What were the key challenges? 1. Designing an office building within the Green Belt, where new developments are usually restricted. 2. Reusing the existing concrete retaining walls which related to a previous industrial use. 3. Designing a new office building without detracting from the marble and granite slabs stored and displayed on site.
What were the solutions? The design solutions to the key challenges are: – 1. Locating the majority of the building underground, and providing a mono-pitch green roof that disguises the structure when viewed from the lake. 2. The existing insitu concrete walls were laser scanned to establish its exact profile allowing new steel frame to be tailors to fit the existing opening. A darrained cavity waterproof system was installed to allow for an moisture ingress through the existing structure. 3. Conceiving a minimal façade appearance of a single plane of frameless glass that helps mirror the surrounding countryside whilst subtly referencing the monolithic nature of the stone slabs.
Who are the clients and what’s interesting about them? The client on this project is The Marble and Granite Centre. The company is long established and one of the leading supply of natural high quality stone products in the United Kingdom.
