Capp-Jones family, Roaring Heights - World Adventures #67
Luckily, the policeman who arrived was quick to respond and act on apprehending the burglar. Everyone in the household was very grateful.
The next day, Margaret's downtime ended. She got recruited by MoruCorp to do some tasks for them. The deal was good and she's excited for another adventure, so she accepted and infiltrated the resistance's underground headquarters for them. Then, she went to the market to talk to the locals about the corporation.

Gary Cooper and Joan Leslie in Sergeant York (Howard Hawks, 1941)
Cast: Gary Cooper, Walter Brennan, Joan Leslie, Margaret Wycherly, George Tobias, Stanley Ridges, Ward Bond, Noah Beery Jr., June Lockhart, Dickie Moore, Clem Bevans, Howard Da Silva. Screenplay: Abem Finkel, Harry Chandlee, Howard Koch, John Huston, based on a diary by Alvin C. York edited by Tom Skeyhill. Cinematography: Sol Polito. Art direction: John Hughes. Film editing: William Holmes. Music: Max Steiner
Sheer Hollywood biopic hokum made watchable by Howard Hawks and Gary Cooper, along with a colorful supporting cast. Sergeant York earned Hawks his one and only Oscar nomination for directing -- not Bringing Up Baby (1938) or Only Angels Have Wings (1939) or His Girl Friday (1940) or To Have and Have Not (1944) or The Big Sleep (1946) or Red River (1948) or Rio Bravo (1959), more than two decades of the most entertaining movies anyone ever made. It was in fact Hawks's lack of the kind of high seriousness so often rewarded with Oscars that makes Sergeant York still entertaining today, which is why he lost to John Ford for How Green Was My Valley, a directing Oscar that by rights should have gone to Orson Welles for Citizen Kane. It's fairly clear that Hawks doesn't take Sergeant York entirely seriously, with its exteriors built on the soundstage, its well-scrubbed hillbillies, its cornpone hijinks and caricature religiosity, not to mention dialogue that sounds straight out of Al Capp's "Li'l Abner." But it also takes a Gary Cooper to deliver speeches like "I believe in the bible and I'm a-believin' that this here life we're a-livin' is something the good lord done give us and we got to be a-livin' it the best we can, and I'm a-figurin' that killing other folks ain't no part of what he was intendin' for us to be a-doin' here." Granted, Cooper had just turned 40 and was a good deal too old to play Alvin C. York, but his characteristic sly, shy self-effacement is essential to the role. The old story that York himself said that he wouldn't allow himself to be played on film by anyone else but Cooper sounds like the work of a Warner Bros. publicist, and one biographer has suggested that it was a hoax cooked up by producer Jesse L. Lasky to persuade Cooper to take the part, but se non è vero, è ben trovato -- if it's not true, it ought to be. Sergeant York cleaned up at the box office, especially when it got a second run after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and raked in 11 Oscar nominations, winning for Cooper and for film editing. Other nominees include Margaret Wycherly as Mother York -- a far cry from her killer mama in Raoul Walsh's White Heat (1949) -- and Walter Brennan, with his false teeth in and his eyebrows darkened, as Pastor Pile, along with the screenwriters, cinematographer Sol Polito, the art direction, the sound, and Max Steiner's patriotic tune-quoting score. It can't be taken seriously today, but it can be enjoyed.

On this day in history, 6th July 1535, Henry VIII’s former friend and Lord Chancellor, Sir Thomas More, was beheaded on Tower Hill as a traitor. He had been found guilty of high treason under the Treason Act of 1534 for denying the King’s supremacy and refusing to take the Oath of Succession.
Chronicler Charles Wriothesley recorded his death as follows:
“This yeare allso, the first day of Julie, beinge Thursdaye, Sir Thomas More, knight, sometyme Chauncellor of England, was arreigned at Westminster for highe treason and there condemned, and the Tuesday after, beinge the 6th of Julie, he was beheaded at the Tower Hill, and his bodie was buried within the chappell in the Tower of London, and his head was sett on London Bridge. The effect of his death was for the same causse that the Bishopp of Rochester died for.”
Chronicler Edward Hall wrote:
“Also the vi. day of Julye was sir Thomas More beheaded for the like treason before rehersed, which as you haue heard was for the deniyng of the kynges Maiesties supremitie. This manne was also coumpted learned, & as you haue heard before he was lorde Chauncelor of England, and in that tyme a great persecutor of suche as detested the supremacy of the bishop of Rome, whiche he himselfe so highly fauored that he stoode to it till he was brought to the Skaffolde on the Tower hill where on a blocke his head was striken from his shoulders and had no more harme.
I cannot tell whether I should call him a foolishe wyseman, or a wysefoolishman, for vndoubtedly he beside his learnyng, had a great witte, but it was so mingled with tauntyng and mockyng, that it semed to them that best knew him, that he thought nothing to be wel spoken except he had ministered some mocke in the communcacion insomuche as at is commyng to the Tower, one of the officers demanded his vpper garment for his fee, meanyng his goune, and he answered, he should haue it, and tooke him his cappe, saiyng ii was the vppermoste garment that he had. Lyke-wise, euen goyng to his death at the Tower gate, a poore woman called vnto him and besought him to declare that he had certain euidences of hers in the tyme that he was in office (which after he was appreheded she could not come by) and that he would intreate she might haue themagayn, or els she was vndone. He answered, good woman haue pacience a litle while, for the kyng is so good vnto me that euen within this halfe houre he will discharge me of all busynesses, and helpe thee himselfe. Also when he went vp the stayer on the Skaffolde, he desired one of the Shiriffes officers to geue him his hand to helpe him vp, and sayd, when I come doune againe, let me shift for my selfe aswell as I can. Also the bagman kneled doune to him askyng him forgiuenes of his death (as the maner is) to whom he sayd I forgeue thee, but I promise thee that thou shalt neuer haue honestie of the strykyng of my head, my necke is so short. Also euen when he shuld lay doune his head on the blocke, he hauyng a great gray beard, striked out his beard and sayd to the hangman, I pray you let me lay my beard ouer the blocke least ye should cut it, thus with a mocke he ended his life.”
A document in Letters and Papers gives the following information about More after his trial and about his execution:
“On his way to the Tower one of his daughters, named Margaret, pushed through the archers and guards, and held him in her embrace some time without being able to speak. Afterwards More, asking leave of the archers, bade her have patience, for it was God’s will, and she had long known the secret of his heart. After going 10 or 12 steps she returned and embraced him again, to which he said nothing, except to bid her pray to God for his soul; and this without tears or change of colour. On the Tuesday following he was beheaded in the open space in front of the Tower. A little before his death he asked those present to pray to God for him and he would do the same for them [in the other world.] He then besought them earnestly to pray to God to give the King good counsel, protesting that he died his faithful servant, but God’s first.
Such was the miserable end of More, who was formerly in great reputation, and much loved by the King, his master, and regarded by all as a good man, even to his death.”
Memorial plaque on Tower Hill
As Wriothesley says, his body was buried at the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula, at the Tower of London, and his head put on a spike on London Bridge. Heads would eventually be thrown into the River Thames but More’s wasn’t. E E Reynolds, in the book Margaret Roper: Eldest Daughter of St Thomas More, quotes Thomas Stapleton, an early biographer of Thomas More:
“[The head] by order of the king, was placed upon a stake on London Bridge, where it remained for nearly a month, until it had to be taken down to make room for other heads … The head would have been thrown into the river had not Margaret Roper, who had been watching carefully and waiting for the opportunity, bribed the executioner, whose office it was to remove the heads, and obtained possession of the sacred relic. There was no possibility of mistake, for she, with the help of others, had kept careful watch, and, moreover, there were signs so certain that anyone who had known him in life would have been able now to identify the head.”
Reynolds then explains:
“After the death of Margaret Roper, the head was in the keeping of her eldest daughter, Elizabeth, Lady Bray, and it was probably at her death in 1558 that it was placed in the Roper vault under the Chapel of St. Nicholas in St. Dunstan’s, Canterbury.
It was seen there in 1835 when, by accident, the roof of the vault was broken; the head was enclosed in a leaden case with one side open; this stood in a niche protected by an iron grille. The vault was later sealed, but a tablet in the floor above bears the inscription:
Beneath this floor is the vault of the Roper family in which is interred the head of Sir Thomas More of illustrious memory, sometime Lord Chancellor of England, beheaded on Tower hill 6th July 1535. Ecclesia Anglicana libera sit.”
In an article “The scull [sic] of Sir Thomas More”, in The Gentleman’s Magazine of May 1837, there is the following quote about More’s head being seen in the vault in the 18th century, along with the drawing of the skull which you see at the top of this article: “Dr. [then Mr.] Rawlinson informed Hearne, that when the vault was opened in 1715, to enter into one of the Roper’s family, the box was seen enclosed in an iron grate.”
It must still be there.

Capp-Jones family, Roaring Heights - #43
After mourning and healing, Titania continued her training with Cinnamon for the following days, while the rest of the household returned to their everyday, regular happy selves.
Her hard work paid off, as she continued to win competitions and get promotions as a horsewoman in Roaring Heights, while also doing her role as a mother and wife. It's not smooth and easy, but she's making it all work.
They're all very grateful for the gift of life and abundance they experience every day.
-------------
We have come to the end of the post series from this household... for now. Thank you again for engaging and reading my posts! I love sharing my game to the community, and it makes me very happy to see others reading and liking my stories, too 😁
Thank you again, and keep on Simming!

6, 18, and 28 ? (wlwprentisss)
Thanks so much for the ask! (These are all super hard questions btw! haha)
6. name three books that changed your life.
Slaughterhouse Five and Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (Jenny Lawson) got me through the worst of my depression.  Are You There God, It’s Me, Margaret (even though my mom forced me to read it) was a game changer as a young girl and I think every tween should read it.
18. what’s a topic that you wish you knew more about?
Ballet!  For whatever reason, I got really into ballet a few years ago and I took an adult class (and then stopped and I really need to get back into it) which was amazingly fun and the hardest workout of my life.  I have a bookshelf full of books about ballet, but I want to know more (and I’d like to get to the point where I can dance on pointe too!).  I actually wrote my first novel about a ballerina!
28. what do you do when you need to de-stress?
I’m stressed out like 99% of the time, tbh!  Usually, I go to Tim Horton’s, drink an iced capp and write fanfic...giving fictional characters problems takes my mind off my own!

  Dewey Pruitt, 68
Tumblr media
Dewey Christopher Pruitt, age 68, of Boone, died Friday, September 22, 2017 at Autumn Care of Drexel. He was born September 30, 1948 in Wilkes County to Wilmer Matthew and Mary Louise Owens Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a US Marine Veteran serving in Vietnam and was a recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the American Legion and was associated with the DAV for over two decades. He served as district commander of the NC DAV ninth district and District Commander of the Year in 2005. As a service officer, he helped many veterans learn about and obtain their well-deserved benefits. He drove many veterans to the VA hospitals, sometimes in his own vehicle, before helping obtain a van. He helped raise money constantly for things they needed - a van, food, medication, etc.
Pruitt placed an emphasis on "young veterans," and encouraged them to get involved in veterans' organizations. He also stressed the importance of recognition for women veterans and active duty members "because they're out there risking their lives just like the men are. He was also actively involved with The American Legion, VFW, and Marine Corp League and held offices in most of the organizations. He was quoted in a newspaper article as saying it was all  " a way to give back,"  to help fellow veterans accomplish all they can and to see that they receive the benefits and acknowledgments that they deserve. Prior to being named District Commander, over nine chapters from Avery to Lincoln counties, Pruitt successfully led Chapter 90 of Boone for two years. As District Commander, Pruitt attended chapter meetings and state conferences and conventions on a regular basis and served as a liaison, "a voice for the veterans," between each chapter and the state and federal levels. He assisted with membership drives, installed new officers, helped veterans obtain benefits, and worked to resolve any disputes that arose. There were approximately 2500 Disabled American Veterans who depended on Pruitt's resourcefulness as their District Commander. Pruitt said he was proud to be a disabled American veteran. "When that flag flies in the air, it's not just a piece of cloth flying in the air,"  he said. "To me that's Old Glory. When that flag flies in the air, that's a symbol to me that this land is still free. Until the day I die, I will honor that flag. I will honor the American Legion. I will honor the DAV." A new curse just hit. It took everyone living in Storybrooke to Capp, a city in California, and cursed every other realm too. The cursed families are completely ridiculous, and it's up to Emma and the ones who aren't cursed to break it and defeat whoever cast it. But the journey won't be easy.

Now let’s do some catching up here:
Regan and Cornwall were busy climbing their way to the top of the SCIA field, but an unexpected miracle (tragedy? inconvenience?) gifted them two little girls. Regan seems more happy about this than Corny. Oh, also, Regan got into a fight with Cornwall and out of spite took Cornwall’s last name (wig!) They’re now the Danes, and their kids, Margaret and Maria, have taken the name as well.
Tybalt said fuck the feud, i’m gonna get an education. Determined to clean up his messy record, he sets sights on achieving his lifelong goal and enrolls in the poly-sci field.
Beatrice and Benedick grew up into teens, both with the Family aspiration. Poor Patrizio didn’t live long enough to see them grow up, unfortunately. (Press F)
I’ll make a separate post about this but I converted the Veronaville Market near the Capp Manor to apartments, since I never used it and to be frank it looked kinda ugly. The first tenants, The Copleys. Brother and sister duo Martin and Wendy don’t always get along, but are for now, I guess. Martin’s taking a liking to a certain Kent Capp, where Wendy’s got her sights on some rando NPC she started autonomously flirting with.
I also slightly rebranded Sim State University to Lear State College to fit the Shakespeare aesthetic of the world, and the first sim enrolled is none other than iconic family bin mf Erik Swain. Still trying to figure out what I want to do with him. He’s pretty generic which is good since I can make whatever tf I want outta him. LSU will get it’s own post in a second.
Bianca started climbing the Science career ladder, but along the way met a ~handsome~ bachelor John Boyega (I named him after the actor because I was watching TFA and accidentally started making Finn as a sim and here we are lmao). They got hitched and moved into an apartment downtown in a real lowkey event.
The Picasos found a nice little house on Via Veronaville, and immediately planted roots. Their son Daniel grew up real mf fast. He’s actually a kid now but I didn’t get any pictures of him yet.
