OPEN CALL 'PERFORMERS' MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ

The Kunsthaus Zürich and Marina Abramović Institute are seeking performers to be part of the forthcoming Marina Abramović retrospective at the Kunsthaus Zürich scheduled to take place from 24 October 2024 to 16 February 2025.

UPDATE: The rate of pay is 28 CHF per hour (incl. social insurances) and performers are expected to commit to at least 3 days a week. Breaks and rehearsal will be remunerated separately which leads to a weekly lump sum of CHF 1400 or 5600 per month (incl. social insurances). This proposal was set in accordance with PANCH – the Performance Art Network CH. The participation in the workshop will be paid extra (incl. travel expenses and accommodation).

L'immersion du corps dans l'oeuvre.

Le recours aux nouvelles technologies, l’introduction du virtuel sont des caractéristiques qui décrivent l’ « art immersif » . L'essor de la technologie a ouvert de nouvelles portes pour l'expression artistique, on retrouve la réalité virtuelle et la réalité augmentée. Ces avancés offrent de nouveaux moyens d'expression artistique et transforment la manière dont le public interagit avec les œuvres d'art. Cependant, une question importante se pose sur l'accessibilité.

 La différence subtile entre la réalité virtuelle et la réalité augmenté.

  La réalité virtuelle plonge les spectateurs dans des mondes nouveaux, où ils peuvent interagir avec l'art. Des expériences artistiques utilisent la réalité virtuelle comme par exemple le musée du Louvre qui propose une visite de son musée en réalité virtuelle. On retrouve aussi des installations interactives et des expositions virtuelles.

D'un autre côté, la réalité augmentée superpose des éléments numériques à notre environnement réel, créant ainsi des expériences artistiques qui s'intègrent à notre quotidien. On la retrouve dans les espaces publics, des performances artistiques en temps réel et des applications mobiles d'art augmenté transforment les espaces urbains en terrains de jeu artistiques et invitent le public à interagir avec l'art.

Tilt Brush est l’exemple parfait, c’est une application qui permet de créer des œuvres en 3D dans un espace virtuelle de notre environnement.

Des artistes renommés explorent également de nouveaux territoires créatifs. Marina Abramovic, artiste serbe célèbre à l’échelle mondiale pour ses performances et actions radicales. En utilisant la technologie, elle crée des environnements virtuels où les spectateurs peuvent interagir avec ses œuvres.

"Rising " est une expérience artistique immersive en réalité virtuelle. Cette œuvre transporte les participants dans un espace où ils prennent contact avec l’artiste qui se noie petit a petit et qui doit prendre la décision de la sauver en s’engageant a protéger l’environnement. Cette expérience aborde les effets du changement climatique avec la montée du niveau de la mer.

La réalité augmentée dans nos Palais.

Au Palais Lascaris à Nice, l’exposition « Metamorphoses architecturales et Chambre des Sphères » de l’artiste Caroline Challan Belval est visible qu’a travers notre telephone, à l’aide d’une application.

On peut voir « le souffle humain » qui est cohérent avec la réalité augmenté a cause de son immatarialité.

Est ce que tout le monde peut-il en profiter ?

Malgré les possibilités offertes par la réalité virtuelle et la réalité augmentée, l'accessibilité reste une préoccupation. Ces technologies sont souvent cher, environ 200 euros par casque virtuelle, et nécessitent un équipement spécialisé, que tout le monde ne possédent pas forcément, ce qui limite l'accès. De plus, tous les individus ne sont pas techniquement compétents pour utiliser ces outils de manière efficace, ce qui crée une différence dans l'accès aux expériences artistiques utilisant cette technologie.

Finalement, la réalité virtuelle et la réalité augmentée proposent des expériences artistiques uniques en leur genre. Elles ouvrent de nouveaux horizons passionnants pour l'art contemporain, offrant des expériences immersives et innovantes qui captivent. Cependant, pour que ces technologies aient un véritable impact, il est important de résoudre la question de l'accessibilité. En rendant l'art numérique plus accessible à tous, par la création d'installations artistiques qui ne nécessitent pas d'équipement spécialisé. On peut aussi se demander si on vit la même expérience que de regarder par exemple un tableau dans la réalité et à travers un casque de réalité virtuelle ? Est-ce qu’on a les mêmes détails ? Est ce qu'on profite de la même maniére?

'The Artist Is Present' , a performance art exhibition by Marina Abramović. Performed in 2010.

Hosted from March 14th 2010 to May 31st 2010, 'The Artist Is Present' is a performance piece hosted at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) by artist Marina Abramović. Abramović sat on a chair with a small table in front of her and a chair opposing her. Silently, Abramović sat and viewers of the show were encouraged to sit silently across from her for a 'duration of [their] choosing".

Despite the seemingly dull activity for the artist, Abramović is trained with Tibetan Buddhists in the act of meditation, and is able to leave the current limits of her body through this.

Abramović sat and stared, reciprocating the viewers silent demeanour.

From my interpretations of what experiencing this exibihiton would be, I imagine it would humanise a figure seen as so polarising and pioneering as Abramović. Through many other performative pieces, Marina has accumulated many titles and associations through her unique artistic medium. Feminist. Artist. Pioneer. However being sat eye to eye with someone, no words spoke, I feel would make you truly see them as just like you. Real. You'd see the wrinkles in their face, the clovers of colour to the eye, the way their stare makes you feel. All of this combined makes me believe how impactful this performance was. Most art is viewed in galleries by thousands daily, while they do have their own interpretation and emotions attached, its still the same artwork in front of them. Being made to sit and stare at someone in silence for durations (from articles read normally 50-75 minutes per person), you get your own interpretation, your own artwork and your own personal attachment.
