Comprehensive Study of the Global Coding and Marking Equipment Industry
The global coding and marking equipment market was valued at USD 17.53 billion in 2024, and it is anticipated to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.1% from 2025 to 2030. This projected growth is largely attributed to the increasing emphasis on product traceability across several key industrial sectors, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and electronics. The demand for advanced coding and marking systems is further fueled by the implementation of stringent regulatory frameworks related to product labeling, safety, and quality standards. These regulations compel manufacturers to adopt more sophisticated, accurate, and efficient identification technologies.
One of the main catalysts driving this market expansion is the continuous innovation in coding technologies, particularly the development and adoption of laser marking systems and Thermal Inkjet (TIJ) solutions. These advancements are closely aligned with the broader trend of automation in manufacturing and packaging processes, enabling companies to improve throughput, reduce human error, and streamline operations.
The evolution of coding and marking technologies has significantly enhanced the ability of companies to achieve greater operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Advanced systems with high-precision capabilities—such as laser coding, Thermal Inkjet (TIJ), Continuous Inkjet (CIJ), and thermal transfer technologies—are playing a pivotal role in ensuring accurate, durable, and compliant labeling across a wide variety of substrates and materials. These technologies are indispensable in sectors such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, electronics, automotive, logistics, and packaging. Their applications include product identification, traceability, regulatory compliance labeling, date coding, and batch numbering, all of which are essential for maintaining high standards in quality control, safety assurance, and anti-counterfeiting measures.
Businesses, especially leading players in manufacturing and supply chains, are increasingly integrating these technologies to enhance operational productivity, reduce labeling errors, and optimize supply chain logistics. By adopting modern coding and marking systems, companies are better equipped to respond to evolving regulatory requirements and customer expectations for transparency and traceability.
For instance, in September 2024, Domino Printing Sciences, a well-recognized name in the coding and marking sector, introduced a new high-speed laser coding system designed specifically for the packaging industry. This advanced technology delivers precise, consistent coding across a range of materials while simultaneously reducing operational costs. It enables companies—particularly those operating in heavily regulated markets—to maintain high levels of compliance, productivity, and cost efficiency.
Moreover, increasing public and private sector investments in research and development (R&D) across key regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific are contributing to the rapid advancement of coding and marking technologies. Initiatives such as the U.S. National Innovation Strategy and Germany’s Industry 4.0 program are designed to support digital transformation and technological innovation, creating a favorable environment for market growth. Previous Chapter: Till Death Do Us Part
Tumblr media
Mingyu’s safe house—once just a sprawl of mismatched furniture and half-used equipment—is now a makeshift war room. Tables have been dragged together, boxes repurposed into makeshift desks, wires and monitors hooked into power grids and backup batteries. Satellite phones and burner lines hum quietly from one corner. The walls are lined with maps, a printed blueprint of Argos HQ taped alongside Lim’s Seoul office, red strings and pins ready to mark last known locations.
And at the heart of it all: an arsenal.
You and Seungcheol move slowly around the centrepiece—an open metal table now covered in weapons. Rifles. Semi-autos. Silencers. Flashbangs. Knives of every shape and finish. Armoured vests, gloves, scopes, smoke bombs. Clips and magazines neatly sorted by size. The smell of metal and oil clings to everything.
He holds up a new M1911 with a low whistle.
“Wonwoo really stocked you up,” you murmur, brushing your fingers across the matte finish of a karambit.
“Yeah,” Seungcheol says, inspecting the sightline. “He’s had a shopping problem ever since Rio. Said it’s cheaper than therapy.”
You smirk faintly and continue checking the gear. Methodical. Quiet. Efficient. Neither of you speaks much, but you don’t need to. There’s a rhythm to it—familiar. Rehearsed. Like slipping back into who you were long before this whole mess started.
Meanwhile, across the room, Reina is hunched over her own setup. She arrived just before sunrise, lugging in two black military-grade cases full of tech. Laptops, signal jammers, USB injectors, three satellite uplinks, and something you’re pretty sure was once a military drone antenna.
She hadn’t knocked—just used the side code to get in. You didn't bother asking her how she knew it.
Mingyu’s been following her around ever since.
“You know,” he says, peering over her shoulder as she boots up her third laptop. “I already had a full system here. Secure grid, scrambled line, full backup redundancy. You didn’t need to drag your entire tech department here.”
Reina doesn’t even look at him. “Yours were outdated.”
His mouth opens. Then closes. Then opens again. “Outdated?!” he scoffs. “Excuse you, this setup got us through the Jakarta op.”
“Exactly.”
Mingyu rolls his eyes, but a grin pulls at the edge of his mouth. “God, you’re insufferable.”
“And yet,” she replies sweetly, “you still dream of me.”
He clears his throat at Reina’s comment and turns back to his cables, ears slightly turning pink.
You and Seungcheol exchange a glance. You don’t comment.
Instead, you turn toward the weaponry again.
“This is yours,” Seungcheol mutters, holding out a matte black Glock with a suppressor. “The grip should fit your hand.”
You take it and weigh it in your palm. “Perfect.”
He checks the mag, then hands you two more. “Loaded with subsonics. Just in case.”
You nod and pocket them. “You keeping the SIG?”
“Wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
Everything else—body armour, tactical pouches, spare knives—you both split evenly. There’s no talk of splitting up now. Only of surviving. Only of fighting.
A beep cuts through the room. Then another.
Reina taps a few keys on her main laptop. “We’re live.”
The screens fill—one by one—with pixelated faces.
The girls appear on the left monitor: Samira, Bora, Jiwoo. All in different rooms, different countries, some underground. Some clearly on the move. But they’re alive.
The boys fill the right screen: Woozi, Joshua, and Wonwoo.
Hyerim is the last to appear. She’s pale and looks like she hasn’t slept in two days. Woozi, on the screen beside her, still seems reluctant—but he’s here.
Everyone watches you.
You and Seungcheol stand in front of the cameras, side by side. Calm. Focused. The tension in the room is nearly unbearable.
Then Samira lets out a breath. “Holy shit. You’re alive.”
“I didn’t think I’d actually see your face again,” Jiwoo says, trying to smile, though her voice shakes.
“Same here,” Joshua says from the other side. “We’ve been locked down. No signals. No reassurances. Just... radio silence.”
You nod once. “We didn’t know who made it either. Not until now.”
Seungcheol steps forward. “We’re glad you’re here. All of you.”
He pauses, then continues. “Here’s what we know. Argos and Lim & Associates—”
“—have been playing us all along,” you finish. “Feeding each other contracts, setting us up to compete for bigger bounties. Splitting profits while turning us into pawns.”
A wave of muttering breaks out across the feeds.
“They tried to kill us to tie up loose ends,” Seungcheol says. “They failed.”
“But not for lack of trying,” you add grimly. “They’ll keep coming. And you know what that means.”
“It means we’re next,” Bora says softly.
The silence that follows is suffocating.
Then Samira speaks. “So what do we do? We scatter? Lay low? Build new identities?”
“Start hitting back?” Woozi suggests. “They want a war; we give them one.”
“We go public,” Jiwoo says. “Leak what we know to the international market. Force their hand. They won’t survive the exposure.”
Everyone talks over each other—ideas flying in every direction, voices rising with panic or adrenaline. Reina tries to corral them. Mingyu scowls and leans toward his mic.
You hold up your hand. “Enough.” Everyone quiets.
You take a step closer to the screen, eyes scanning each and every face—some scared, some angry, some simply tired.
“I know everyone has ideas,” you say. “But we need a plan. We can’t move blindly. Because each and every one of you is now at risk. And I’m telling you right now—I’m not sacrificing a single one of you to end this. Not now. Not ever.”
Silence.
Then Bora speaks, hesitant. “Then... maybe we break up. Cut contact completely. And you two? Go separate. Give yourselves better odds.”
Seungcheol answers before you can. “Mingyu already said the same thing.” He glances at you, then looks directly at the screen. “But it’s not happening.”
You step in, firm. “We’re not running.”
A long silence.
Then Hyerim’s voice cuts through it like a match-striking flame.
“Then let’s figure out a way to end this.”
Tumblr media
The war room comes alive.
Monitors hum. Fingers fly across keyboards. Maps are spread across the walls with satellite feeds casting flickering lights over weapons and half-drunk coffee mugs. Mingyu and Reina hover on opposite ends of the room, syncing laptops, pinning strings between photos, placing red dots on global maps, and drawing lines connecting targets, histories, and lies.
It’s like HQ—only grittier.
Samira calls out coordinates from her safehouse in Morocco, eyes glued to her private satellite feed. “Director Oh just pinged in Bucharest. He’s changed IDs three times since the system crash but the credit trail doesn’t lie.”
Joshua’s already working on the second. “Mr. Kwon used one of his shell companies to rent a private jet from Rome three hours ago. Flight plan had a false lead to London but I think he diverted.” His screen blinks. “He’s in Dubai.”
“That’s two,” Seungcheol mutters beside you. He’s standing with his arms folded over his chest, tension in every line of his body. “What about Lim? Or my boss?”
You shake your head, eyes moving across the chaotic network of images and data Reina has laid out. “Too clean. Nothing in her old aliases. Nothing recent.”
“Same for Director Kang,” Woozi chimes in reluctantly. “If he’s off-grid, he’s really off-grid. No comms. No cards. He vanished.”
“They’re ghosts,” Hyerim says, frowning into her screen. “Exactly like they trained us to be.”
Seungcheol exhales through his nose. “Then we think like ghosts.”
You push away from the table and begin pacing.
“Madame Lim always had a thing for private residencies in Luxembourg. Kwon once mentioned her ties to an old estate there. Untraceable ownership but still under her maiden alias. She called it her ‘shadow base’.”
“Wait—” Jiwoo perks up from behind her camera. “You mean the one with the mirrored façade?”
You nod slowly. “That’s the one.”
“Kang has that obsession with old nuclear command bunkers,” Seungcheol murmurs beside you. “Always said he’d retire into one. He’s got property in the rural mountains between China and Laos.”
Wonwoo immediately types. “I’ve got a heat signal matching that description. Subterranean. Shielded comms. I’d bet on it.”
“Add it to the board,” you say.
One by one, the map fills in.
Red string now links Director Oh to Bucharest. Kwon to a luxury Dubai apartment. Madame Lim to Luxembourg. Director Kang to a mountain facility on the China-Laos border. Four red Xs appear in real time.
It’s already dark outside. You can see your reflection in the glass. Exhaustion pulls at your features, but no one slows down.
Then Woozi finally says what everyone’s thinking.
“So now what? We found them. What do we do next?”
Seungcheol’s voice is calm. Final.
“We kill them. All of them.”
You look at him, but don’t stop him. You feel the same.
But Hyerim shakes her head. “Killing them is one thing,” she says. “But it doesn’t erase the bounties. What are you gonna do, kill every mercenary that comes after you, too?”
A tense silence. You feel the weight of it settle in your chest.
Then Joshua jumps in. “Can’t we just remove the bounties once they’re dead? Wipe the system?”
Reina cuts him off. “Not that simple. They were posted through a specialised encrypted program. Those bounties require live biometric confirmation from the original posters to cancel.”
“So you’re saying we need to access that program,” Wonwoo says, leaning forward.
Reina nods once. “Not just access. We need them alive, long enough to scan in and delete the data.”
Mingyu groans, tossing a stress ball up and catching it again. “Damn. Who the hell built something like that?”
Silence.
Then Reina mutters quietly, “I did.” All heads turn.
You sigh, rubbing your eyes. “Of course you did.”
Seungcheol laughs under his breath. Just once.
You straighten, moving closer to the table. “Reina—can you track the origin posts? Figure out who initiated the bounties?”
She nods, fingers flying across her keyboard. “Give me a second...”
Everyone waits, watching the screen update line by line.
“Got it.” Her voice sharpens. “Your bounty, Gwisin—was posted by Madame Lim. S.Coups’? Director Kang.”
Seungcheol lets out a breath through his teeth. “Then we kill Oh and Kwon first. Quietly. Cut their links. Secure the network. Then we go for the real kill.”
“We have to be fast,” you add. “Coordinated. No screw-ups. The moment one of them gets wind, they’ll vanish for good or trigger dead-man protocols.”
The team nods.
Then Jiwoo’s voice cuts through the line—softer, but clear.
“Yeah... but even if you manage to find them, somehow disable the bounties and kill them...You two can’t take on every gun in the field already on the way to you. Not alone.”
You glance at Seungcheol, jaw tight. He’s thinking it too.
The silence stretches.
Then Samira speaks.
“What if we give the mercs something else to chase?”
Everyone turns to her.
You frown. “What do you mean?”
Samira leans in closer to her camera. “I’ve been tracking Jackal on the side. He’s still alive. Ricardo has him in one of his desert compounds. Hidden, but not unreachable.”
You freeze. Your mind starts spinning.
“Wait,” you say. “Reina, Mingyu—can you check if the original Jackal bounty is still live? The twelve million one?”
They’re already typing.
Mingyu shakes his head. “It’s dormant. Was put on hold after you both missed the retrieval.”
Seungcheol speaks then. “Can you reactivate it?”
Reina nods. “That bounty wasn’t encrypted. Global market. I can make it live again.”
Your voice is calm. Calculated. “Then do it. That should drag most mercenaries away from us. Especially if we leak intel about his location.”
Everyone falls silent again.
Then Seungcheol looks up. His voice is low.
“Let’s go to work.”
Tumblr media
Bucharest is colder than expected.
You ride in on a black motorcycle, wind snapping at your borrowed jacket, face tucked beneath the visor of a matte helmet. The sun is just beginning to dip past the skyline, turning the haze of the city into a sheet of golden shadow. You keep to the alleys. Avoid open roads. Your fake ID has already been scanned twice, and thanks to Mingyu’s surprisingly competent alias work, no alarms were triggered.
You’ll file that under surprising things you’re not commenting on.
Much like the fact that Reina never left his safe house.
She’s now patching in from his personal terminal.
Jiwoo, however, is in Athens, and operating her own satellite rig.
“Gwisin, target is stationary,” Reina’s voice says in your comms, sharp as ever. “Upper floor of the building at coordinates 46.7691, 23.5899. Minimal guards. Two confirmed exits.”
“Copy that,” you whisper, crouched behind the gun.
You’ve scoped this place earlier—ten hours ago, to be exact. Found your perch on the fifth floor, shattered window perfectly angled toward the balcony where Oh takes his evening smoke. You’ve lined your sniper rifle up and calibrated for wind, trajectory, and velocity.
Now all you need is the target.
“Any movement yet?” you murmur.
Jiwoo responds. “Nothing yet. He’s still inside.”
You wait.
Time passes slowly in moments like these. The only rhythm is your breath, the slow clench and flex of your fingers around the rifle, and the occasional murmured updates from the girls. You watch out for Oh through your scope—his reflection in the window. Reading. Moving papers.
Then—footsteps.
You freeze.
Your breath stills, and your hands lift off the rifle slowly.
The building is supposed to be empty. You were thorough.
You immediately abandon your post, sliding silently back into the darkness behind you. You blend into it, breath stilling, spine flush to the wall.
Jiwoo’s voice crackles in your ear.
“He’s heading to the door. Looks like he’s prepping to move. You’ll have a clear—”
“I’ve got company,” you whisper, tight and low. “Hold your positions. Do not lose track of Oh.”
There’s a pause.
Then Reina says, “Copy. We’re holding.”
You draw your karambit.
Light floods faintly from beneath the hallway door.
Three shadows. Boots. You clock their cadence, their height, their coordination.
The Vasile triplets.
Mercenaries-for-hire. Romanian. Silent hitters. Raised together. Kill together. And now, they think they’re here to kill you.
The first one enters, rifle low. His head turns. That’s all the opening you need. You move like the wind, slicing your karambit clean across his throat. He drops without a sound.
The second shouts, raising his gun, but you’re already behind the nearest wall. You draw the silenced pistol at your hip and shoot once—chest shot. He stumbles, gasps, drops.
The third one charges you—clever, hand-to-hand. You duck his swing and slam your elbow into his ribcage. He knees you in the thigh. Pain pulses through your leg, but you keep your balance. You twist around him and slam your boot into his kneecap. He falls. You follow him to the floor and drive your blade through his neck, slicing upwards.
Silence falls again.
Blood pools quietly between broken cracks of flooring.
Then—
“Gwisin,” Jiwoo’s voice crackles, “Oh’s outside. He’s walking.”
You groan under your breath. “Of course he is.”
You sprint for the window. Your rifle is abandoned. So are the bodies.
You swing your leg out onto the fire escape and slide down the cold metal, the sound of your boots thudding against the wall as you descend. At the base, you toss the ladder down and emerge into an alley, breathing hard.
Your hand slips into your side pocket. A small black GPS device flashes with Oh’s blinking signal.
You speak into the comms. “Jiwoo, Reina—I need a city redirect. Get him into the northeast corner. I’ll meet him there.”
Reina clicks into action. “Hacking local lights now. You’ve got two minutes before I trigger.”
“Give me three,” you respond.
You’re walking fast now, weaving through market streets and narrow alleys, always a shadow. You guide Reina through every junction.
Traffic halts suddenly at your command. Oh is forced off his original path.
He walks. Alone. No security. You smile.
“He’s close,” you murmur. “Jiwoo, clear?”
“Clear,” she answers. “No cameras. No civilians. You’re good.”
You double back through a quieter route, entering the side street from the far end. Oh is still walking, checking his phone; his pace is fast, but he looks distracted.
You drop your eyes, tuck your blade into your sleeve, and walk straight toward him. Thirty steps. Twenty. Ten.
He passes you.
You spin, arm over his shoulder, blade slicing deep and fast across his throat in one clean arc.
His blood sprays silently across the brick walls. He collapses without a sound.
You wipe the blade on your pants, spin it once on your finger, and slip it into your jacket.
“It’s done,” you whisper into your comm.
“Confirmed,” Jiwoo replies after a beat, voice hushed.
Reina exhales. “One down, three to go.”
You walk away without looking back.
The first head has rolled.

Dubai is a city that refuses to sleep.
Glass towers claw at the sky, each one gleaming with its own brand of opulence. Gold trims, velvet ropes, and secrets buried under mirrored floors. For a man who wants to disappear, it’s a living nightmare.
Which is, of course, why Mr. Kwon chose it.
Seungcheol adjusts the cuff of his suit as he walks through the private entrance of Elara, one of Dubai’s most exclusive high-end clubs, his steps confident and deliberate. A different kind of camouflage. He’s not invisible here—not in this white-pressed designer shirt and sleek black jacket. He doesn’t blend in. He owns the room.
“Mingyu?” he murmurs, the comm in his ear catching his voice beneath the music.
“You’re clear. VIP is in the left wing. Same booth as his last visit. And yeah, Kwon’s already six drinks in,” Mingyu answers from the other end, back at their makeshift satellite station in his safe house.
“Woozi?”
“Confirming no other threats have pinged in your area. You’re solo,” comes the clipped reply. Good.
Seungcheol adjusts his stance slightly as he moves toward the main floor. The lights pulse golden. Music throbs under his shoes like a second heartbeat. The crowd is decadent—diamonds and champagne, cleavage and cologne. And in the centre of it all sits Mr. Kwon.
VIP booth. Surrounded by women.
Seungcheol signals a passing waiter and flashes a smile. “Your finest bottle of Boërl & Kroff. Send it to the gentleman in the booth. No note.”
The waiter nods, takes the cash, and slips away. Seconds later, Kwon is laughing and downing champagne straight from the bottle, frothy and bubbling down his chin. The women cheer; one of them straddles his thigh. Seungcheol watches it all unfold from across the room, a quiet predator sipping a scotch he’ll never finish.
You cross his mind unbidden. The rifle in your hands. The quiet precision of your kills. He wonders—Have you done it yet? Are you safe?
He shakes the thought away.
Focus.
Time ticks forward slowly. Kwon grows drunker, heavier-lidded. Then, finally, he rises—stumbling slightly, laughing, waving the women off.
Bathroom break.
Seungcheol downs his drink and follows.
The hallway is dimly lit. Long. Opulent in design but silent. The door to the bathroom swings open, and Seungcheol slips in a few moments later.
Inside, Kwon is already at the sink. Washing his hands like he’s preparing for a goddamn sermon. He’s humming.
When he looks up, he catches Seungcheol’s reflection in the mirror.
The moment of recognition is quick. Seungcheol is quicker.
His arm wraps around Kwon’s neck, cutting off the air, holding tight. Kwon thrashes once, twice, tries to claw at him, tries to scream—but it’s too late. His body slumps, and Seungcheol lowers him to the tile.
“Goodnight,” he mutters coldly.
The second the body hits the floor, Seungcheol straightens his suit, slicks his hair back with one sweep, and checks his reflection in the mirror. His muscles strain again. It’s almost poetic now.
He turns toward the exit. Left leads back to the party. Right leads out.
He turns right.
He only makes it ten feet before a gold chain lashes around his ankle like a striking snake. He hits the floor hard, forearms slamming into tile, the wind knocked from his chest.
The chain yanks.
He rolls—just in time.
A figure charges at him with the elegance of a dancer and the savagery of a cobra. Full force, she lands on top of him.
They wrestle—hands, knees, elbows. She’s fast. Precise. Smiling.
“Hello, darling,” she purrs, her accent unmistakable. “Still breaking hearts?”
“Varsha,” he growls. “Didn’t expect you to come crawling back.”
She slams her fist into his ribs.
He kicks upward, rolling her off. They separate, both springing to their feet at once—Seungcheol doing a clean kick-up, landing squarely in a fighter’s stance.
She twirls the chain in one hand. Her snake bracelet, coiled and ready.
“Heard you were married now,” she says, circling. “Shame.”
“Shame you don’t know when to quit,” he mutters.
They lunge at the same time.
She swings the chain—he ducks, grabs the end mid-air, and yanks.
She flies forward, caught off guard, and he spins her into the wall. Her head cracks against a mirror.
She recovers. Slashes at his face. He blocks with his forearm, the chain cutting into his skin. He counters.
A blade slides from the inside of his sleeve—his last resort.
He plunges it deep into her gut before she can wrench away. Her breath hitches. Blood trickles out of her mouth.
He leans in, twisting the knife once before pulling it out and stabbing it in again.
“Should’ve stayed a one-night stand.” She collapses.
The comms buzz in his ear, and Seungcheol finally registers the noise.
“Hyung—what the hell was that noise?” Woozi demands.
Seungcheol breathes hard, blood dripping from his hand. He wipes the blade on his pants.
“Target’s down,” he says. “And so is the unexpected company.”
“Tell me that wasn’t Varsha?” Mingyu asks, incredulous.
“Yeah.”
“Holy shit.”
Seungcheol crouches beside the body for one second, then stands.
His suit is wrinkled, blood-streaked. His forearm stings. But the mission’s done.
The second head has rolled.
Tumblr media
“Director Kwon is confirmed dead,” Reina says, her voice in your earpiece over the static of the line.
You’re crouched on the edge of a building rooftop in Bucharest, the skyline painted grey behind you, your breath cooling in the early evening air.
“Seungcheol did it in a club bathroom—clean choke. No witnesses, no trail,” she continues.
You exhale, tension loosening from your shoulders, the adrenaline of your own mission slowly bleeding out of your system.
“Good,” you reply, voice soft.
“I’ve just updated your travel packet. New alias, new flight plan. Small private jet’s waiting for you twenty clicks out of town. That should land you in Luang Namtha before midnight. From there, quad into the jungle—Seungcheol’s safehouse is mapped.”
“That where we regroup?”
“Yeah. Wonwoo’s sending another weapons crate to the site tomorrow. You’ll need it before you move on Kang.”
“Copy that,” you murmur. “I’ll move soon.”
You’re about to kill the comm when you hear it.
A low voice in the background—Mingyu’s, unmistakably.
“I can’t believe Varsha, of all people, showed up.”
You freeze, head tilting slightly.
“Kind of crazy that she’s still breathing after all these years. Woozi, remember her? That whole mess in Tangier? And now she tried to choke Seungcheol in a Dubai nightclub? Crazy bitch.”
A pause.
Then Mingyu again, voice casual, joking—too joking.
“Guess some flings really don’t take rejection well. But at least Cheol’s still got it, huh?”
Your blood runs cold. Then hot.
Varsha.
You’ve heard the name before. Not often, not clearly—It’s been passed around the underground like an urban legend: exotic, lethal, likes to strangle her targets with some kind of metal chain disguised as jewellery. A merc. A black widow.
And apparently, your husband’s slept with her.
Your jaw clenches.
You hang up the call with Reina before she can hear your tone shift.
Tumblr media
It takes hours to get through immigration, over the Laos border, and deeper into the jungle. Your boots are caked in water and mud by the time you reach the last marker—an overgrown path with an old iron sign buried beneath moss and vines. The GPS flashes green in your hand.
Safehouse reached.
Your heartbeat picks up as you walk forward past the thick of the trees. You push through the foliage, parting vines and leaves until you finally see it—an old concrete structure, half-buried in the landscape but clearly maintained.
And standing in front of it, looking far too calm and far too attractive in a grey tactical shirt and jungle-worn cargo pants—Seungcheol.
His eyes light up the second he sees you.
He takes a step forward, and you feel your chest tighten, all that tension from the last few days crumbling in an instant.
God, he’s alive.
He walks right up to you, takes your face in his hands, and kisses you—hard.
It’s frantic, hungry, grateful. All heat and breath and want. You melt into it for a second, eyes fluttering shut, fingers curling into his shirt.
And then—
The name echoes again.
Varsha.
You snap out of it, pushing him back with one hand to his chest.
And then you slap him. Hard.
“Ow—!” he groans, jerking his head. “What the hell was that for?”
You don’t even let him recover.
You shove him again, your words tumbling out like bullets. “Who is Varsha, huh? And how long have you been sleeping with her?”
He blinks. “What?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, Choi—” You hit his chest. “Who is she? When did you sleep with her? Was it before the wedding or after? The last time you were in Dubai? How long has this been going on?!”
“Okay, wow—” he starts, reaching for you.
You slap his hands away.
“You smug, lying, arrogant—God, you’re unbelievable. You brag to your friends like some frat boy, and then just... what? Hide it from me? Your wife?”
“Babe—”
“No!” You push him again. “Don’t you ‘babe’ me. And don’t touch me. Not after this. I’ll find that bitch and kill her myself. Right after I kill you.”
He tries again, grabbing for your arms.
You swat at him like a feral cat.
“Jesus, okay, stop—” he groans, catching your wrists and holding them in place. “Stop—just—stop hitting me for one second—”
“Why? You can’t take it? Was she better? Did she use the—”
He lets out a laugh then, loud and full-bodied.
And then he pulls you flush against him, hands still locked around your waist, gripping you tight enough you can’t wriggle free.
“You don't have to kill her,” he says, voice rough with amusement. “I already did.”
You freeze.
“...what?”
His mouth quirks. “She came at me in the club. Chained my ankle. Thought she could collect my bounty. I stabbed her. Right through the gut. She’s dead.”
You stare at him, blinking.
He raises an eyebrow. “What? You didn’t think I was out there making out with her, did you?”
You open your mouth. Close it. Look away, completely mortified.
He smirks.
“Oh my God,” you mutter, avoiding his gaze. “I’m such an idiot.”
He doesn’t say anything. Just tilts your chin up with one hand, waiting until your eyes meet his again.
And instead of teasing you further, he leans down—close enough that his breath ghosts against your lips.
“You’re cute when you’re jealous,” he murmurs.
You scoff. “I’m not jealous.”
“You literally said you’d kill her.”
“That’s not the same thing—”
He laughs again.
You roll your eyes but don’t move away. Not even when he leans in, brushing his lips over yours with a feather-light touch. Not even when he whispers against your mouth.
“Trust me, baby, you’re the only one I want.”
You sigh, letting your forehead press to his.
“Good,” you whisper back.
And then he kisses you again.
Tumblr media
The second Seungcheol’s mouth slants over yours again, something raw and almost reckless rises between you. Whatever apology you didn’t say for your blow-up burns off your tongue as your teeth sink into his lower lip instead. His hissed inhale at the sting makes something low in your stomach coil and thrum.
He pulls you closer like he’s starved. But you’re the one who can’t get enough.
The world narrows to your tongues fighting for dominance, teeth clashing and mouths bruising. You don’t even register the door closing behind you, or your boots tracking mud into the safe house. Seungcheol blindly stumbles back into the small main room, dragging you with him, hands gripping your hips like he needs the grounding.
You hit a wall. A stack of crates topples. Neither of you flinch.
He chuckles against your mouth when it crashes to the floor.
“Careful,” he murmurs, breathless. “You’re gonna wreck the place.”
You bite his bottom lip again. “I don’t care.”
Another kiss. Another half-step, and suddenly, he falls into a chair, dragging you with him.
You straddle his lap without hesitation, your thighs bracketing his hips, and your clothed core presses against the thick, growing bulge in his pants. His hands slide up your sides beneath your shirt, rough and warm, and you grind down on him with purpose. He groans into your mouth at the friction—one hand tightening on your waist while the other fists the hem of your shirt and yanks it up and over your head.
You break the kiss just long enough to let it go, arms flying overhead, before your lips crash back to his. Your hands are already at his belt, clumsily undoing the clasp, fingers fumbling with impatience as his hands work to undo your bra.
His mouth trails from your lips down your neck. “Jesus. You’re—”
“Shut up.”
He laughs. “Yes, ma’am.”
You finally get his belt open, unzipping his pants while he kisses along the curve of your jaw and down your collarbone as he pushes your bra straps down. His hips buck slightly when your hand slides inside the waistband of his boxers, brushing against his hard length. You lean back, just enough to push his chest down into the chair.
“Don’t move,” you mutter, fingers splayed on his sternum. “And don’t touch.”
Seungcheol raises an eyebrow at your warning but obliges. You slide off his lap, dropping to your knees between his legs. His eyes darken instantly.
“Baby, what—”
“Shut. Up.”
You slap his hands away when he tries to touch you, and he groans, watching as you reach for his waistband and tug everything down and off—pants, underwear, all at once. His cock springs free, flushed and thick and already hard, bobbing slightly against his abdomen.
You don’t tease. Not yet.
You lean in and envelop him in your mouth.
His strangled groan echoes around the room as your mouth closes over the head of his cock, wet and hot and needy. You drag your tongue slowly along the underside of his shaft, taking your time, then hollow your cheeks and suck him deeper, feeling the stretch in your jaw and the way his body tenses instantly.
“Fuck—” he chokes out, hands fisting the edge of the chair. “Holy shit.”
You bob your head, tongue swirling, alternating suction with slow drags, and soon he’s groaning again, hips jerking subtly up into your mouth before he forces himself to still.
You take your time—too much time.
Your hand joins your ministrations, wrapping around the base of his cock, pumping slowly while your mouth works the head. You stroke in rhythm with your lips, twisting, flicking your tongue, pulling back to suck hard at the tip before going deep again.
“God, you’re gonna kill me,” he mutters, one hand falling into your hair despite your warning.
You let him tug, guide, just enough to make your scalp sting.
He starts panting, the tension in his thighs ratcheting up.
“Baby—shit—I’m close—”
You immediately pull off. He gasps at the sudden loss of contact, body twitching at the near-orgasm, hands still in your hair.
You look at him as you start stroking him again—slow, deliberate, not letting him tip over.
His head thunks back against the chair. “You’re fucking evil.”
You smirk. “And yet, you married me.”
He groans, head turning to the side like he’s trying to focus on anything else. But it doesn’t help. Your hand never stops. But it’s not enough. Not fast enough, not tight enough. Minutes tick by. You go down again.
He jerks up so fast you nearly choke. Your lips wrap around his tip again, and you find a new rhythm—suck, stroke, lick, repeat.
He’s shaking when he groans, “Gonna come—fuck—”
You stop. Again.
“Fucking hell!” he barks, hands flying to the armrests.
You glance up with innocent eyes. “Something wrong, baby?”
“Don’t make me—” He grits his teeth, cheeks flushed and body glistening with sweat. “Do not make me beg.”
You smirk, pumping him once—twice—slowly. He groans, head falling forward. “You’re gonna pay for this—”
“Shut up and take it.”
The third time you take him in your mouth, you don’t wait for the warning.
You edge him again, stopping just as his thighs start to tremble and the base of his spine tenses in that telltale way. You pull off. Again.
A string of saliva connects your mouth to the tip of his cock.
He’s not groaning anymore. He’s whining. Your big, bad assassin husband is actually whining.
“Fuck, baby,” he breathes, eyes blown wide with desperation. “Please.”
You tilt your head. “Please what?” He glares. “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?” You stroke him just once, and he groans. “Be in control?”
His jaw flexes. He looks at you like he wants to throttle you—or fuck you so hard the walls come down.
You lean in close again, lips brushing the tip.
“You’re punishing me, aren’t you?” he rasps. “For Dubai. For Varsha.”
You lick your lips. “Maybe.”
“You’re a fucking menace.”
“But you love it.”
He laughs through a moan. You smile, letting your tongue flick out—just enough to taste him again. And then, you sit back on your heels. Completely still. You don’t touch him. Don’t kiss him. Don’t move.
He stares at you, furious and hard and on the brink of madness.
You rise slowly to your feet, running your thumb across your bottom lip and gathering the saliva and precum gathered at the corner of your mouth.
You lick it clean, smiling.
Tumblr media
You don’t expect him to move that fast.
One second you’re still standing in front of him, pleased with yourself, watching Seungcheol’s cock throb with need between his thighs… and the next, he’s out of the chair.
Before you can so much as flinch or retaliate, you’re airborne.
“Hey—” you yelp as he picks you up, manhandling you like you weigh nothing at all, and throws you across the room. Your back hits the mattress with a heavy oomph, limbs bouncing slightly on the bed as the air is knocked from your lungs.
You manage to suck in a breath before his body crashes down on top of yours, caging you in.
“You think you’re funny?” he growls lowly, his nose brushing yours as he pins your wrists above your head. You grin. “Maybe.”
He kisses you like he wants to eat you alive.
The heat from earlier flares again, but it’s darker now, fiercer. His mouth travels fast—biting down on your jaw, your throat, the sensitive spot beneath your ear. You moan, arching beneath him, and he laughs against your skin.
You feel his hand on your chest before you register the slap—his palm hitting your breast hard enough to sting, then immediately squeezing it after.
“Fuck—” you whimper, legs twitching around his hips.
His mouth closes around your nipple in response—hot, wet, rough—and he sucks hard, alternating with his teeth. You cry out, your fingers tangling in his hair.
“Still feeling bratty?” he mutters against your breast.
He doesn’t give you the time to retort—instead, he grabs your hair, yanking your head back to bare your throat, and bites down on your neck instead. The sharp jolt sends sparks straight between your legs.
Your pants are ripped off you in the next heartbeat—tugged down so roughly they take your panties with them, leaving you sprawled naked and gasping on the bed.
He kisses his way down, leaving a trail of saliva and fire along your ribs, your stomach, and your hipbone.
When his mouth hovers over your soaked heat, your legs tremble. His breath ghosts over your core, and you meet his eyes, dark and ravenous, from between your thighs.
“Tell me what you want, sweetheart,” he says lowly, voice laced with mocking amusement. “Fingers? Mouth? Or cock?”
You blink, brain fogged with heat.
“What…?”
Seungcheol grins. “Tch. Thought so. Haven’t even touched you yet, and you’re already fucked out. You get to choose, baby. But choose wisely.” He leans closer, nose brushing your clit. “You’ll only get one.”
That finally snaps you out of it.
“Cock,” you whisper, voice hoarse and expectant.
He smirks. “Good choice.”
And then your world flips on its axis. Literally.
He grabs your thighs and flips you with a single motion. You shriek in surprise as you land on your stomach. He yanks you onto all fours.
“Cheol—!” you start, but he’s pushing your face into the mattress, his palm heavy against the back of your head.
“Shut up,” he mutters commandingly. “You asked for this.”
You feel his cock behind you—hard, hot, lined up with your weeping entrance—and then he’s inside you in one brutal, punishing thrust.
You cry out into the bedding, your fingers clawing at the sheets as he splits you open.
“Fuck, you’re tight,” he groans behind you, his hands bruising your hips.
He doesn’t give you time to adjust.
He starts pounding into you from behind, hips slamming against your ass with heavy, rhythmic force. The sound is obscene—skin on skin, your wetness, your gasps and his growls filling the tiny space.
You’re moaning, whining, helpless against the onslaught of his body.
Every thrust knocks the breath from your lungs. He spanks your ass hard once—then again—and again, until you let out a sob, only to moan even when his palm lands on you again.
Your core clenches wildly around him.
“Fuck— you’re gripping me like a vice,” he mutters, voice low and ragged. “You like this? Huh, baby? Like being used?”
You can only cry out ‘Yes’ in response.
When your legs begin to shake, he grabs your hair and yanks you upright—your back slamming against his chest, his cock still buried deep inside you.
“Open your mouth,” he orders, keeping his grip tight in your hair as his free hand slides in front of your face.
You do without hesitation. Two fingers slide past your lips—rubbing over your tongue, pressing down against it.
“Suck.”
You moan as you obey, your tongue swirling over his fingers, your mouth hot and desperate, sucking on his digits like you did his cock. When he’s satisfied, he pulls them free and slides them down—between your thighs, right to your clit.
You cry out when his slick fingers start rubbing fast, ruthless circles over your pulsing nub.
“Cheol— oh god—fuck—”
“Come on, baby,” he murmurs against your ear. “Come for me. Let me feel it.”
Your fingers dig into his arm as your orgasm suddenly crashes through you. It’s violent. Wild. And takes you by force. Your body locks, clenches, and trembles as the pressure explodes and pleasure rips through your nerves.
Seungcheol doesn’t stop.
He keeps thrusting, keeps circling your clit, keeps fucking you through it—overstimulation already setting in as you scream into the mattress.
He lets you fall forward again, and you collapse bonelessly, face down into the bed. He doesn’t stop. His hands grab your hips, holding you steady as he chases his own release.
He spanks your ass again, the sounds loud and lewd.
“Shit—fuck—fuck,” he growls, hips stuttering.
And then he spills inside you with a loud, broken groan.
Three more thrusts. Shallow. Slow. Making sure every drop stays buried deep. He finally pulls out, breath catching in his throat.
You’re wrecked. Soaked. Glistening. Barely able to move.
He flops down beside you, dragging your twitching body into his arms. You’re gasping, limbs limp, brain swimming—but a giggle bubbles out anyway.
“That was…” you pant, dazed. “Yeah. I should definitely rile you up more often.”
He groans playfully, burying his face into your neck. “Let’s not.”

The jungle is still sleeping when reality decides to wake you up.
The sharp buzz of his satellite phone on the nightstand and the soft, steady beeping from your GPS tracker lighting up beside the bed wake you both from your slumber. The haze of last night’s sweat-slicked limbs and tangled sheets is still warm on your skin, but the moment is gone as fast as it came. Instinct takes over.
Seungcheol grabs the sat phone and answers without hesitation. “Yeah?”
“It’s me,” Wonwoo says, gruff and casual as ever. “Shipment’s dropped. It’s in the clearing three clicks northeast of you. Sent the coordinates to your wife’s tracker.”
“She got it,” Seungcheol replies, throwing a quick glance at you as you nod.
“Good. Stay sharp out there,” Wonwoo mutters. “And… don’t die.”
Seungcheol breathes out. “Right back at you, Woo.”
Wonwoo disconnects, and just like that, the warmth of the bed, the afterglow—it all fades. You look at each other for a heartbeat, and then the switch flips.
Game time.
You both get dressed in practised silence. Vests. Gloves. Boots. Every movement is efficient. Clean. Sharp. Two ghosts suiting up for a kill.
Outside, the air is thick with jungle humidity. You follow Seungcheol as he rounds the side of the safe house, stepping over vines and damp earth until he crouches down and yanks off a heavy tarp.
Underneath it—well hidden—is a weathered military-grade jeep.
“Of course, you had this here,” you mutter, lips twitching slightly.
He grins as he gets in. “Had to leave myself a ride.”
You climb into the passenger seat, pulling your GPS forward. “Take the path north, then veer right at the ridge. The drop is just past the waterline clearing.”
The jeep lurches forward, engine snarling low and quiet, and you both fall into the tense stillness of the mission. Every branch that scrapes the side of the jeep, every call of birds overhead, every bump in the road—it all heightens your senses.
It doesn’t take long before you reach the clearing.
Seungcheol kills the engine, and the world goes eerily quiet except for the rustle of wind through leaves. You step out, weapons drawn, scanning your surroundings. Then you see it.
A dark metal crate sits just ahead, nestled in the grass like a gift from the gods.
Seungcheol breaks it open with a crowbar, and your eyes widen.
Wonwoo went off.
Inside the crate lies a small armoury. Sleek, matte-black rifles. Knives with ceramic edges. Ammo in every calibre. Smoke bombs. Blackout tech. Scoped pistols. Infrared sensors. Heat detectors. New comms gear. Suppressors.
“Damn,” you mutter, running your hand across a silencer. “This is better than Christmas.”
You both start suiting up—checking each item before adding it to your loadout. Sights calibrated. Knives balanced. Comms synced.
You’re just about to zip up your tactical vest when something catches your eye at the bottom of the crate.
A flash drive.
You pick it up. Silver casing with black marker on the side: XOXO, Reina.
Your eyebrows lift. “The hell is this?”
Seungcheol is already watching you, so he throws you his sat phone, and you dial Reina. She answers after three rings, sounding distinctly out of breath.
“Yeah—hello?”
You narrow your eyes. “...You okay?”
“I’m fine,” she replies too fast. “Totally fine. Just finished working out. What’s up?”
You stare into the jungle. “Got your gift.”
Silence.
Then Reina exhales. “Oh. Right. The drive.” Her voice shifts, businesslike. “That’s a virus I wrote to scramble Kang and Lim’s encrypted program. Once you’re in, it’ll override the signal.”
You glance at Seungcheol. “Define ‘in’.”
“As I mentioned, it uses biometric access,” Reina explains. “Voice, retinal, and fingerprint. The print scan is advanced—it monitors heart rate and body temp. If either spike, a fail-safe activates. It’s basically a dead man’s switch.”
Seungcheol groans behind you. “So… a walk in the park.”
Reina snorts. “You’ll have to get Kang to unlock the system without triggering any alarms. Once you’re in, insert the flash drive. It’ll spoof the signal to Lim—make it seem like the bounty’s still live on her end, but dead to the global market. She’ll never know.”
You blink. “That’s… impressive.”
“I know,” Reina says smugly.
You start to thank her, then pause—smirking slightly.
“You know,” you say smugly, “Next time, maybe think twice when you decide to “work out” again. And do it preferably after we’ve walked towards possible death.”
More silence.
Then a very quiet, “God, you’re creepy. Can’t hide shit from you.”
You laugh. “You’re not that subtle, Reina.”
“Whatever,” she mutters, but you can hear the faint smile in her voice. “Good luck. Don’t die.”
“Back at you.” You hang up.
When you turn around, Seungcheol’s watching you with a faint smirk.
“What?” you ask.
He shrugs. “Nothing. Just something about a pot and kettle.”
“I didn’t hear you complain last night.”
He chuckles at your statement, but it fades as the moment quiets.
Your eyes meet, and the atmosphere shifts. Reality settles like a weight on your shoulders.
It’s go time.
Tumblr media
The sun rides high above the canopy by the time the wheels of the jeep crunch to a stop beneath the thick shadows of the jungle. You and Seungcheol sit in stillness for a moment, the low hum of the engine dying out as he kills the ignition. Birds call in the distance, muffled by the density of the leaves, and the air is heavy with anticipation.
“We’re close,” you murmur, checking your GPS. “About one klick northeast.”
He nods once, scanning the tree line. “We’ll go on foot from here. We park any closer; we risk setting off possible perimeter sensors.”
Without another word, you both exit the vehicle and disappear into the green.
The jungle is unforgiving—thick vines, hanging moss, and humidity clinging to your skin like a second suit. You pull a machete from your belt, and Seungcheol does the same, both of you slashing carefully through the underbrush, keeping your steps measured and soundless. There’s no conversation, just the rhythm of your shared breaths and blades, and the silent language spoken between trained killers.
After a short climb, you reach a ridge. It crests gently above a natural dip in the earth, and below it, spread across a cleared stretch of jungle floor, lies Kang’s compound.
Modern. Sleek. Built like a fortress with luxury trimmings—glass walls, solar panels, and a central structure acting as an office or control centre. It stands out in the wild like a dagger.
You drop to your stomach near the edge of the ridge, dragging your binoculars from your pack. Beside you, Seungcheol pulls out his own gear—infrared heat sensors, a laser rangefinder. You share what you see in low, practised whispers.
“Two snipers. North and southeast towers,” you murmur. “Both posted high, rifles trained toward the outer edge.”
“Got eyes on two more guards. Heavily armed, center-left of the courtyard near the entrance,” he adds. “Looks like they’re protecting the main path in.”
You tap the side of your lens, switching to thermal.
“Seven more, patrolling inside the compound. Standard rotation—seems like they’re on a ten-minute loop. Armed, but not alert.”
“Visual on Kang?”
You scan the second floor of the compound and freeze when you find the shadowed silhouette of a tall man, pacing across what appears to be an office.
“There,” you whisper, nudging Seungcheol. “Tall, wide shoulders. Movement pattern matches. Looks like he’s talking to someone—”
Seungcheol adjusts his lens. “Confirmed. That’s him.”
You nod and reach into your pack again, pulling out the scrambler. You power it on and set the frequency, watching as the blinking green light turns steady blue.
“Alarms scrambled. Cameras looped. We’ll have a twenty-minute window before their system reboots, and he realizes something’s off.”
“Plenty of time,” Seungcheol replies, cocking your rifle and attaching the silencer and balancing it on a tripod.
You both lie flat on the ridge, shoulder to shoulder. You take the snipers. He watches for movement.
“North tower first,” you whisper.
You adjust the sight, take a breath, and squeeze the trigger. The silencer reduces the crack to a faint hiss, and the sniper in the north tower drops like a ragdoll. One down.
You shift slightly. “Southeast tower.”
Another shot. Another body slumps, this time into the rail, his body tumbling quietly over the edge into the brush.
“Clear,” you mutter. “I’ll move. You take east. I’ll go west.”
Seungcheol nods, already sliding down the hill.
You stay behind a moment longer, disassembling your rifle and pocketing the scrambler. Then you’re on your feet, slipping through the trees silently.
You move fast and low.
By the time you reach the outer edge of the compound, Seungcheol has already taken out the two guards near the courtyard. You spot their bodies tucked neatly behind a stone wall, blood blooming silently across their shirts. You nod to yourself and slip around the west side, coming up behind the greenhouse wing. A guard steps out to smoke. You waste no time.
Karambit to his throat. A gurgled gasp. You pull him into the shadows, wipe the blade, and move on.
Another guard rounds the corner, humming to himself. You take him down in two swift moves—elbow to the windpipe, blade to the kidney. He falls in a twitch.
Inside, the compound is eerily silent. The scrambler continues to work wonders—no alarms, no flickers of suspicion from the guards, still unaware they’re being hunted.
You and Seungcheol clear the floors like ghosts. He moves swiftly on the east side, the occasional thud of a body hitting the tile filtering through your comms. You press into the south corridor, slicing through two more men and dragging them into an empty bathroom.
With every guard down, every hallway cleared, the silence grows heavier. Anticipation coils tighter in your gut.
Finally, you reach the top floor.
And just like that—you’re standing at Kang’s office door.
Seungcheol rounds the corner from the other direction, his face slick with sweat, blood spatters on his cheek, but his eyes sharp. He meets your gaze, and you both press flat against either side of the door. You nod once to each other.
Tumblr media
Seungcheol opens the door with a silent push, and you toss a smoke bomb inside.
The hiss of the release is immediate, followed by a fast bloom of dense, grey smoke that overtakes the pristine mahogany of his luxury office. The desk disappears, the floor vanishes beneath haze, and you hear the sound of a chair scraping back sharply.
“What the—?!” Kang’s voice barks in confusion.
You slip inside, silent and focused. You can hear Kang’s movements: stumbling, coughing, his shoes thudding heavily against the floor as he tries to orient himself. There’s a crash—he’s knocked something off his desk—and then a shuffle of panic.
Then silence.
Until the feeling of a cold, steely barrel of a gun chamber touches his forehead.
“Don’t move,” Seungcheol says, voice calm, firm, and ice-sharp.
He freezes.
“Seungcheol?” Kang rasps through the smoke.
Your figure melts from the shadows behind him like a ghost. Your karambit is back in your hand, its curved blade cold and gleaming. You press it to the side of Kang’s throat.
He stiffens instantly.
Your voice is quiet and cold, the edge of your breath brushing his ear. “Hello, Kang. Miss us?”
“Jesus fucking Christ,” he breathes out a rough laugh, half-amused, half-appalled. “You two have really lost your minds.”
He tries to move, but you press the blade a hair deeper. A single drop of blood runs down his neck.
He barks another laugh. “The two biggest targets on the global kill list walk right into my compound. I should be flattered. Or furious.”
Seungcheol says nothing, only pressing the gun harder to his forehead.
“I underestimated you, Seungcheol. I knew you were soft, but this? Playing Bonnie and Clyde with your little wife? How’s it feel, huh? Always in her shadow?”
Seungcheol’s eyes narrow. He’s still as stone, but the way his jaw clenches tells you exactly how hard he’s biting back the need to pull the trigger.
Seungcheol finally speaks, voice low, cold. “It feels like I married the only person worth trusting in this goddamn world. And the fact you’re scared of her proves it.”
You smirk.
Leaning closer, you whisper, “Let’s see if we can keep you calm enough to survive the next few minutes, shall we?”
Kang glares. “What do you want?”
“Access,” you say simply. “To your program.”
He scoffs. “You think I’m going to just hand it over?”
You press the karambit harder into the tender skin beneath his jaw, a steady stream of blood oozing from the tip piercing his skin. “No. You’re going to walk us through it. And if you fuck around—if you even flinch the wrong way—you’ll die before the failsafe ever gets a chance to go off.”
Kang huffs through his nose, but walks to the desk with your blade still at his throat. Seungcheol stays close by, his gun never wavering. Kang’s fingers tremble slightly as he wakes up the terminal. The light from the monitor casts strange shadows across his face as he clears his throat and accesses the program.
“Director Kang Hojin,” he states, firm and loud. “Override sequence Omega Black, authorisation Sigma-One-Seven-Delta.”
The system chimes.
Voice scan accepted.
He places his hand on the scanner. Another chime.
Fingerprint accepted.
Then comes the retinal scan. He leans forward towards the webcam. The screen buzzes.
Access denied. Retinal match not found.
Your heart stutters. Seungcheol’s grip on his gun tightens.
Kang lifts his head with a smug look. “Oops.”
You grab his shoulder and force him back down. “Do it again. Don’t blink.”
Kang exhales sharply through his nose and leans forward again. This time, he holds perfectly still.
Retinal scan accepted.
Access granted.
Relief floods you, but you shove it down. No room for error now.
“Bounty logs,” Seungcheol says.
Kang navigates the system with practised fingers, moving through encrypted folders. “Here. This is what you want.”
You reach into your belt and pull out the flash drive. Kang’s eyes flicker to it.
“Plug it in,” Seungcheol says. You do.
The second the drive locks in, the screen flashes. Code scrolls, long strings of green bleeding across black. The virus is doing its job.
“You idiots have no idea what you’ve just done,” Kang growls. “You think Lim won’t find this? You think she didn’t plan for this?”
You say nothing. Seungcheol watches the screen. Progress: 82%.
“Even if you kill me, she’ll never stop. You’re nothing to her. Ants. She’ll make sure the entire world hunts you for sport.”
The progress bar reaches 100%.
Final confirmation: Bounty Deactivated — Market Update Complete.
“You talk too much,” Seungcheol mutters. Then he pulls the trigger.
The bullet hits Kang clean between the eyes. His head snaps back before slumping forward onto the keyboard, blood blooming fast beneath him. The room goes quiet.
You exhale. Slide the flash drive from the port and tuck it back into your belt.
“Let’s go,” Seungcheol says.
You’re two steps toward the door when the monitor flickers red.
On the screen, a new prompt flashes: ALARM ACTIVATED — FAILSAFE INITIATED — DETONATION SEQUENCE: 2:00
“Oh shit,” you whisper.
“Run,” Seungcheol breathes, already grabbing your wrist. “GO!”
Your boots slam against the floor as you both bolt from Kang’s office, weaving past his slumped, lifeless body behind his desk. The halls flash red—emergency lights triggered by the failsafe.
“Where did that come from?!” Seungcheol shouts.
“My scrambler!” you gasp, realisation slamming into you like a truck. “It triggered the reboot. The system finally recognised us.”
01:45.
You skid through the corridor, heart in your throat, legs pumping hard. Down the stairs—two at a time—your boots barely hitting the steps before you’re flying again. You hear Seungcheol right behind you, breath ragged, muttering a string of curses between each inhale.
You nearly slip on the last stair, but Seungcheol grabs your arm and steadies you without stopping. The two of you slam through a side exit and into the open air of the jungle’s edge.
01:02
“Too far,” you choke out. “We parked too far—”
“We’re not making the jeep,” he says, teeth clenched. “Find cover.”
You don’t argue. You veer left, leaping over a fallen tree trunk, ducking under a vine. Your legs burn. The world is loud with your breaths, your pulse in your ears, the scream of your muscles.
00:54
Behind you, the compound hums unnaturally, the kind of silence that feels like something holding its breath. You glance back—just a flash—and see smoke already leaking from the vents on the roof. The timer is real. The end is coming.
“There!” Seungcheol shouts behind you, pointing.
A rock formation, jagged and moss-covered, partially buried under tangled roots. A crevice big enough—maybe.
He speeds up. You do, too.
00:32
You’re panting. Staggering. Tripping over your own feet—but you don’t stop. You can’t.
Then—just as your feet hit the edge of the formation—arms wrap around your waist.
Seungcheol lifts you, spins, and throws the both of you behind the largest boulder.
You crash into the dirt hard, grass in your mouth, Seungcheol’s weight covering you entirely. His arms pin you down, his body a shield.
He curls around you, breath hot against your ear.
“Hold on,” he whispers.
You shut your eyes. You feel his heartbeat.
00:01.
The sky lights orange. Fire screams through the trees. The compound behind you explodes in a catastrophic blast that tears the jungle apart. Glass, steel, smoke and flame shoot into the air like a volcanic eruption.
Debris pelts the ridge. Metal thuds against the boulder you hide behind. The earth shakes.
You cry out once, but it’s swallowed by the roar.
Seungcheol doesn’t move. His arms cage you tighter, shielding every inch of you. His weight grounds you, anchors you to the earth as the fury rages overhead.
Then—
Silence.
Smoke. Crackling. The compound groans as its structure collapses.
Your ears ring. Your skin is coated in ash and dust. You blink slowly, chest heaving.
Seungcheol lifts his head first.
His hair is singed at the edges. There’s a bleeding cut on his arm from fallen debris. But he’s alive.
You roll beneath him slightly, dazed, pupils blown wide as your gaze meets his.
Neither of you speak.
You just reach up with shaking fingers and brush a smear of soot from his cheek.
Then you mouth it:
Thank you.
He lets out a dry chuckle, then shifts beside you, flopping onto his back in the grass with a groan.
The two of you stare up at the sky above. Bits of scorched leaves flutter down like feathers.
Tumblr media
The train hums steadily beneath your feet, metal wheels grinding softly against iron tracks as the landscape rolls by in a blur of dusk and shadow. It’s your second train in two days, and the rhythm has become something almost meditative—lulling, even soothing—if not for the weight pressing down on your chest.
Munich was a blur. Quick layover. New platform. A different conductor, different glances, different whispers of German you barely registered through the haze of concentration and caffeine. Now it’s Luxembourg ahead, the final stretch before you disappear into the woods, heading toward a place the rest of the world doesn’t even know exists.
You sit cross-legged on the small fold-out sleeper bunk in your private cabin, flicking through weapons one by one. Cleaning cloths. Fresh rounds. Blade oil. The hum of the train is your only soundtrack.
Across from you, Seungcheol mirrors your movements, his back against the wall, knees up, long fingers reassembling the slide of his pistol with practised ease. It’s not about necessity at this point. Everything’s already ready. It’s about habit. Control. The illusion of it, anyway.
You glance up at him, catching the crease between his brows and the faint tremor in his thumb as he locks the magazine into place. He’s steady. Always has been. But this isn’t like any mission you’ve done before.
He senses your eyes on him and glances up, offering a small, tired smile that doesn’t reach his eyes.
“You ever gonna stop checking that knife?” he asks.
You twirl the karambit around your fingers. “Not tonight.”
He nods like he understands—and he does. Of course, he does.
There’s a long stretch of silence before he speaks again, this time more carefully. “Can you tell me about her?”
You pause, eyes narrowing slightly. “Lim?”
He nods. “I’ve never met her. Never even seen a photo. Only heard what Reina and Jiwoo said. But if I’m going to walk into her house with a bullet chambered, I want to understand who we’re really facing.”
You sit back, the weight of the knife still warm in your palm. You stare out the window for a beat—at the darkening sky, at the streaks of stars beginning to appear above dense silhouettes of trees and valleys—before you speak.
“She’s brilliant,” you say softly, letting the words form with intention. “And terrifying in the most elegant way imaginable. She doesn’t raise her voice. She doesn’t make threats. She makes promises. And she keeps them. Always.”
Seungcheol listens, his jaw tight.
“She recruits people like an art collector would. She studies them. Waits. Makes them feel seen. Then she bends them to her will so subtly they don’t even realize they’ve changed sides. And when she’s done with them… she never gets her hands dirty. You’ll never see it coming.”
You feel his gaze on you, but you keep your eyes on the knife in your hand.
“I watched her take down five agencies from the inside just by turning people against each other. I watched her call a kill order on a pregnant agent because she had doubts about continuing. I saw the body. The husband. The baby didn’t make it.”
You swallow hard.
“She told me once that loyalty was just a leash wrapped in velvet. She said affection was a liability… and love?” You look up now, straight into Seungcheol’s eyes. “Love was a knife people begged to be stabbed with.”
The quiet after your words stretches thin between you, taut and cold. His face is unreadable for a long beat, but his hands are clenched, and you know that fury lives just beneath his skin.
“She gave the order for me to kill you,” you murmur. “When I married you, she knew who you were. She could have given me the order right then and there. But she waited until she was sure of my feelings for you. Until she was sure it would hurt me. She was always ten steps ahead.”
Seungcheol doesn’t flinch, but you see the flicker of pain in his eyes. “And you almost did.”
You nod. “I would’ve. I nearly did. But when I saw your face…” Your voice breaks, just slightly. “I couldn’t do it.”
“So this is it,” he murmurs. “The end of the road.”
You nod slowly. “If we fail, she disappears. The whole web collapses. And people like Reina, Mingyu, Jiwoo, Joshua—they’ll be hunted. You and I?” You give a faint, dry laugh. “We won’t even be worth the cleanup effort. She’ll make an example of us.”
“And if we win?”
You don’t answer him.
Seungcheol leans back against the wall again, exhaling heavily through his nose. “This is the part where I say we can still back out, isn’t it?”
You smile wryly. “That boat in Trinidad still floating?”
He chuckles—a low, humourless sound—but you’re glad to hear it.
“That cabin in the Alps is looking mighty tempting now,” he murmurs, gaze distant. “Just the two of us. Snowed in. No names. No guns.”
You lean your head back against the window, closing your eyes for a second.
He turns toward you again, one corner of his mouth twitching. “We’re idiots.”
“Mm.” You smile. “But we’re in love. That’s worse.”
The silence that follows isn’t tense. It’s… full. Weighty with all the things you aren’t saying, all the possibilities you won’t let yourself dream about right now. Your eyes meet his in the quiet—two people teetering at the edge of something neither of you can control.
No more chances after this.
No more exits.
You sit up slowly, slide the karambit back into your thigh holster, and reach for his hand.
“Till death do us part, right?” you ask, voice steady.
His eyes soften, his fingers tightening around yours like a promise.
“...and probably still after that, too,” he whispers.
Tumblr media
The forest is silent. Still. Too still.
You and Seungcheol move like a whisper between the trees, every step calculated, every crunch of damp underbrush softened by instinct and years of experience. The canopy above shivers faintly in the wind, moonlight occasionally slashing through the leaves in silver streaks. Your gear is strapped tight to your body, weapons close. You feel your heartbeat in your throat, steady but forceful. The weight of what’s ahead presses against your ribcage like a warning.
After nearly an hour on foot, there it is.
Lim’s estate.
It rises from the forest, glass and metal shimmering faintly in the dark. But not glass—mirrors. Massive mirrored panels encase the exterior walls, reflecting the surrounding trees and sky so perfectly it makes the entire compound look like a trick of the eye. Almost invisible. Almost unreal.
You crouch down with Seungcheol behind the trunk of a fallen tree, binoculars raised. But they don’t help. The reflections are endless. No windows to see through. No weak spots. You try the thermal sensors, the electromagnetic sweeper, even the pulse radar.
Nothing. Complete blackout.
Seungcheol’s expression hardens beside you. “We’re going in blind.”
You nod once, tension coiling low in your stomach.
At least the scrambler still works. You check the signal and feel a flicker of control return. “No alarms. No cameras,” you murmur.
“But everything else?” he asks.
You meet his gaze. “We’re caught in her web now.”
Just then, movement—a silhouette rounding the west side of the compound. A guard. Walking alone, slow, almost bored. Rifle at his side. Head turning in lazy arcs.
You both recognize it instantly: your window.
You slip over the tree, bodies melting into the foliage. The air feels colder the closer you get to the structure, like something sinister is waiting. You signal. Seungcheol nods, flanking left. You go right.
The guard never sees it coming.
One swift, clean movement—your blade slicing silently, Seungcheol catching the body before it hits the ground. You both drag him into the brush and dart to the wall. A hidden side door. Seungcheol picks the lock, fast and silent, while you cover him.
The door creaks open with a soft hiss.
And then you’re in.
The compound swallows you in darkness. No overhead lights. Just muted emergency bulbs glowing red along the baseboards. The air smells faintly of bleach and expensive perfume.
Together, you move room by room—clinical hallways, offices filled with screens, empty staircases. You kill quickly, efficiently. One by one, the guards fall. They don’t scream. They don’t even know what’s happening until it’s over. You and Seungcheol sweep the entire ground floor, then the first, avoiding the glass-walled atrium and sticking to shadowed corners.
No alarms. No reinforcements. No Lim.
You’re starting to feel a strange sense of unease. Like it’s all too easy.
Then—just as your boot hits the top of the second-floor landing—it happens.
A voice rings out, smooth and cold, echoing through the speakers tucked into every corner.
“Gwisin.” You feel Seungcheol stiffen behind you. “I’ve been expecting you.”
Your body freezes. You’d thought—hoped—you were ahead. But of course not. You warned Seungcheol yourself: she’s always ten steps in front.
The silence that follows is deafening. You look down the hallway. Then, with a mechanical hiss, a door at the end slides open.
A deep, impossible darkness yawns within.
You don’t move. Neither does Seungcheol.
“Come in,” Lim’s voice purrs. “I insist.”
You glance at Seungcheol. His jaw clenches, but he nods once. No turning back now.
You move in sync, every step echoing on the polished black floors. The office is silent, save for your breathing. Then, the door shuts behind you with a hiss of finality, locking you in the dark.
And then—
Bang.
“Agh—!”
The sound of the gunshot is deafening, sharp and shocking in the enclosed space. You scream his name, reaching out, panic clawing at your throat.
“Cheol—!”
He drops beside you, groaning in pain, clutching his leg. You see the blood, dark and hot, pouring from his thigh.
“Stop.” Lim’s voice snaps, sharp now, slicing through the dark like a knife.
“He’s not dead. Yet. But if you take one more step, Gwisin, the next bullet goes through his skull.”
Your hands lift immediately. You straighten slowly, your heart thundering, your chest rising and falling in shallow gasps. Seungcheol grabs your hand as you try to move, fingers slick with blood.
He’s trying to stay conscious. His teeth are clenched, his breathing shallow. But his eyes never leave yours.
“Don’t,” he rasps. “Don’t do this.”
You turn to Lim, face blank. “I’m here,” you say aloud, stepping forward into the dark. “I’ll play your stupid games. Just don’t touch him again.”
The lights flicker to life.
And there she is.
Madame Lim sits in the centre of the room, calm and unbothered, her white suit pristine, her legs crossed as if she were merely waiting for tea. Her hair is swept back, face emotionless, eyes gleaming with something unreadable. A table separates the chair facing hers.
Atop it: a single, silver revolver.
Your stomach drops. Lim smiles slowly.
“You remember how this works.”
You stare at the gun. At the chairs.
And for the first time in a very long time, you feel real, consuming dread curl its claws into your chest.
Russian Roulette.
And you already know—only one of you will be walking away.
Tumblr media
Your legs carry you forward, one heavy step after the next, the sound of your boots echoing in the stillness like distant thunder. The pain in your chest doesn’t come from a wound, but it hurts just the same—coiled fury, barely contained. You can feel the heat of Seungcheol’s blood still on your hand, your breath caught somewhere between rage and terror.
The chair is waiting. Empty.
You sit slowly, your knees trembling under the weight of what you’re walking into.
Across from you, Madame Lim lounges in her seat like the queen she’s always pretended to be—composed, elegant, a portrait of detached cruelty. She eyes you with a quiet satisfaction, her red lips curling into something that’s almost… amused.
“Welcome home, darling,” she says smoothly.
You clench your jaw. The mask doesn’t slip.
“I’m here,” you say evenly. “What’s the play?”
Lim’s smirk widens. Slowly, she reaches for the revolver resting on the table between you, her delicate fingers wrapping around the cold metal like it’s a treasured artefact.
She flips it open with a practised snap, turns it so you can see—
One bullet.
She closes the chamber and spins it. The click-click-click of the revolver spinning fills the silence between you, steady and cruel.
Then she sets it down, the handle pointing to the space between you.
“Simple,” she says, voice like silk over broken glass. “We spin the revolver. Whoever the handle lands on takes the first shot. If you win, you get the pleasure of accessing my system, removing your bounty, and tearing my empire apart from the ground up… before you put a bullet through my skull.”
She pauses, lips curling.
“But if I win… I get to watch the life drain from your eyes. I get to see the anguish on Seungcheol’s face when I shoot the love of his life in front of him. Right before I kill him, too. Tragically romantic.”
Your nails dig into your thighs beneath the table, the only outward sign of how close you are to snapping. But your voice remains even.
“You forget I need you alive to access your system. So this is a waste of time. I lose no matter what.”
Lim tuts, rising gracefully from her chair. “Oh no, darling. Quite the contrary.”
She walks toward the far side of the room, the hem of her white suit jacket swaying with each precise step. You glance behind you just once—Seungcheol still lies on the ground, bleeding, pale, but breathing. His eyes find yours, and the look there nearly unravels you.
You turn back to Lim just in time to see her approach her desk and pull out a sleek black laptop.
She returns, sets it down beside the revolver with exaggerated care, and slowly opens it. The screen glows to life. One by one, she performs the biometric logins—retinal, fingerprint, and voice. Just like Kang had.
Then she leans back, smug. “Now, you don’t need me alive anymore.”
You stare at her. And she stares right back, the game finally unfolding, the trap finally sprung.
“Let’s begin,” she says softly.
She takes the revolver, gives it a spin again, and when it stops—
The handle points directly at you.
You inhale deeply, picking it up. The weight of it is intimate and horrifying all at once. One in six. You press it to your temple, finger tightening on the trigger.
Click.
Nothing. Lim smiles, pleased. You slide the revolver across the table.
She picks it up gracefully and points it to her own head, never blinking, never breaking eye contact.
Click.
Still nothing. Your turn again.
You pick it up, ignoring the burn in your lungs, the sweat forming at the back of your neck. Lim is watching you with that same gleaming hunger.
“You always were weak,” she says. “Falling in love. Letting yourself care. You would’ve ruled this world, Gwisin, if you hadn’t gone soft.”
You ignore her. Gun to your temple.
Click.
You breathe out slowly, chest tight. She snatches it next, almost eagerly, her voice rising.
“You should’ve killed him. He was never worth it. Do you know how pathetic you look, crawling around for a man who’d bleed out for you? Do you think he’ll survive this anyway? Or do you just want someone to cry over your corpse?”
Gun raised.
Click.
Still nothing. Now you know. This is it.
If you get the bullet, it’s over. If not—you win.
She leans forward, taunting, her voice a venomous hiss now.
“He’s not going to make it. You’ve already lost, darling. Look at him—pale, dying, weak. Just like your resolve. Like your entire rebellion. You could’ve chosen me. But instead, you’re nothing more than a wife in mourning.”
You cut her off, hand closing around the gun mid-sentence. Her mouth stills, eyes flicking downward as you lift it once more. You don’t speak. You don’t blink. You just pull the trigger.
Click.
Silence. Everything stops. You don’t move. She doesn’t move.
Because that was the fifth shot.
And everyone in the room knows what that means.
The sixth belongs to her.
She smiles—slow, awful, the knowing kind of smile that monsters wear in their final moments.
You gently place the revolver back down, never looking away as you pick up the laptop. You pull the flash drive from your pocket with a trembling hand and plug it in.
Lines of code scroll by. You follow Reina’s instructions to the letter.
The virus deploys.
One by one, every trace of the bounty system begins to dismantle itself. Files corrupt. Names disappear. Targets are wiped clean. You check twice, then a third time. It’s done.
You press one final command, and the entire system shuts down.
No more empires. No more Lim.
Your victory tastes like ash.
You stand slowly, refusing to look at her, and turn toward the man on the floor.
“Cheol…” you whisper, approaching him softly.
That’s when it happens.
“Sorry, darling,” Lim purrs. “Can’t let you win.”
Bang.
You freeze. But the pain never comes.
The thud of a body hitting the floor echoes behind you. And when you turn— She’s there.
Madame Lim.
Shot through the chest.
Seungcheol’s pistol clatters to the ground beside him, his arm falling limp.
He’s panting, eyes fluttering, drained from the blood loss and effort it took to raise the weapon. But he did it. He saved you. Again.
“No— no, no, no, baby, stay with me—”
You scramble to him, sliding to the floor, pressing your hands hard against his thigh. Blood oozes between your fingers. You tear at your shirt, using the fabric to make a quick tourniquet above the wound.
His skin is clammy. Pale.
“Don’t do this to me,” you plead, voice cracking. “Don’t you dare go quiet now, Choi Seungcheol.”
He tries to speak, but no words come out. His eyes close.
“NO!” you scream, pressing harder, doing everything you can to keep him tethered to you. “Stay awake. Please. I can’t— I can’t lose you now.”
You grab your comms, tears streaking down your face.
“Reina! Mingyu! Jiwoo! Anyone!” you cry into the mic. “He’s down—he’s hit! We need extraction now—NOW!”
Static. Then Reina’s voice breaks through, panicked but focused.
“We’re on our way. Hold on. Just hold on.”
You sob, forehead pressed to his as you hold the wound with both hands.
“You promised me,” you whisper. “You said even after death, remember? So don’t you dare let go. Stay. You stay with me.”
Tumblr media
The Caribbean sun beats down from a cloudless sky, the wind gentle as it dances through the sails of the boat that floats lazily just off the coast of Trinidad. Seagulls cry in the distance, their wings cutting through the heat as waves lap softly against the hull. The air tastes like salt, and stillness, and peace. For once, the world is quiet.
You lay stretched across a sun-bleached lounge chair on the deck, skin warm, drink sweating in your hand. A lazy breeze rolls over your bare stomach, ruffling your hair. Sunglasses shield your eyes, but you’re not really looking at anything. Just the endless blue horizon.
It’s been six months.
Six months since the compound. Six months since Madame Lim fell. Since you screamed into the comms for someone—anyone—to come and save the man bleeding out in your arms.
And now—this. The boat. His boat.
The one he joked about right before you came up with that ridiculous plan to take on your bosses. The mythical exit plan. A sailboat docked and waiting off the coast of Trinidad for a day that might never come. But it did come.
You take another sip of your drink and close your eyes.
The sun presses hot against your skin. Your breathing slows.
Then— A creak of wood.
Bare feet padding across the deck.
You don’t bother opening your eyes. You know who it is.
Reina’s voice floats out from the cabin, bright and amused. “I swear, this place is turning me into a whole new woman.”
You lift your sunglasses to peer at her. She emerges wearing a bikini that somehow manages to be both functional and designer, two fresh cocktails in her hands.
She walks over and hands you one before plopping down in the chair beside yours with a content sigh.
For a long time, neither of you speaks.
The boat rocks gently, and the sea stretches out in all directions.
Reina swirls her drink, then glances at you. “You know,” she says softly, “Seungcheol was onto something, keeping this boat stashed away.”
You smile, a slow curve of your lips. There’s something bittersweet in it.
“Yeah,” you murmur. “He definitely was.”
The silence between you shifts. Not heavy, not sad. Just full. You both sit with it. With the past. With what you lost. With what you kept.
Then—
“Is that how you talk about me when I’m not around?”
The voice cuts through the stillness like lightning. Familiar. Deep. Teasing.
A shadow moves at the stern of the boat.
Then, emerging from the water with a grin and a sun-drenched gleam in his eyes—
Seungcheol.
Shirtless, drenched, water trailing down his broad chest. His swimming trunks cling to his hips. His hair is dark and wet, pushed back by the sea. His towel is slung casually over one shoulder, and his smile—lazy, wicked, alive—makes your heart skip.
The scar on his leg is visible, faint against his tan skin. He walks with a slight limp still, but he’s upright. Strong. Getting better every day.
You stare, lips parted in a grin that spreads like a sunrise across your face. “You’re supposed to warn a girl before you sneak back on deck.”
He approaches, towel-drying his face, and when he leans over, he kisses you. Softly. Warmly. His lips linger, just long enough to remind you that this—he—is real.
“I heard you talking shit,” he murmurs against your mouth.
You laugh, brushing your fingers through his damp hair. “You heard wrong.”
He slides into the space beside you, pulling your legs gently over his lap, his hand resting casually on your thigh like it belongs there. Because it does.
“When are you coming in for a swim?” he asks, nudging you with a grin. “Water’s perfect.”
“When I feel like it,” you reply, tipping your glass toward him with a lazy clink.
Reina groans. “Ugh. You two are disgusting.”
You and Seungcheol both smirk, not even bothering to deny it.
The three of you laugh, and for a moment, everything is light.
Beep.
A sound breaks from the cabin. Muffled. Sharp. Urgent.
Your heart stutters.
You’re on your feet in an instant. So is Seungcheol. Both of you race below deck, Reina on your heels. You slide into the cabin, heart already pounding in your chest.
There it is.
You recognize it immediately. One of your old encrypted devices, the ones you used when Lim & Associates was still in operation, the one on which your bounties arrived.
You reach for it, hands steady despite the fear unfurling in your gut.
The screen flickers to life. Code scrolls. Then—
A name.
Target: Kim Mingyu.
Alias: Fireball.
Bounty: 3 Million.
Your blood turns to ice.
Seungcheol reads it beside you, lips parting in disbelief. “What…”
Reina appears in the doorway, eyes wide. “What’s going on?”
You turn the screen toward her.
She sees the name. And freezes.
“What the hell did that idiot do now?”

it's raining, soft droplets sprinkling over your already wet skin, soaking in sweat as you huff, doubling over to place your palms over your knees. slippery, it is, palms sliding down the smooth of your knees as you try your best to contain your breath, composing yourself when you notice your teammates pass by. "so, y/n, excited for the shift into university?" your volleyball captain asks, prompting you to wince. this causes concern, her brow raising and her wrist lifting to rest on your shoulders, "not a good time?" she sympathises.
"just a bit scary, not too sure how i will mingle with the people there and if i will join a team as good as ours." you mutter, playing with your stretchable wristband. the girl laughs, patting your shoulder painfully hard with a smile, "hey, your university is known for its sports department! i wouldn't put it past me to find a well equipped club and carefully handpicked members. who knows, you might make it national!" she reasons, patting the top of your head with a crooked smile.
you try not to make eye contact with the man as he introduces himself and shares his email with the students for future assistance. however, when you look up to sneak a glance at him again, you see him staring right at you, wide eyed. you're fucked and not quite literally.
"say what, are you free tonight?" she asks, looking over at the other teammates with a sneaky smile. and when you look up dazed with a slight nod, she's dragging you over to seat you on the nearest bench. "i sent you a text, be there at 7! bye, y/n!" just like that, all your teammates trickle out the training ground, snickering amongst themselves to have finally caught you in a trap, always having refused to meet them outside training.
7:06PM. still waiting, feet nearly cramped up in those narrow toothed stilettos. bad idea to show up in stilettos after vigorous training? yes, but, the location your captain had forwarded had a strict dress code to adhere to this night. right as you bend over to adjust your heels, you're met with the vision of several pairs of similar looking stilettos. "there! early as always, our y/n, let's go in!" one of your teammates urges you inside a shady looking building.
you're met with instant chaos, loud and blaring music sinking into your eardrums, the bass making the floor vibrate and your heart thump in rhythm to the music. "stay right here, tia and i will get us all some drinks!" you're left by some of your other teammates you're not too close with, merely acquaintances that play volleyball together, you'd say. excusing yourself with a smile despite being met with "they asked us to wait here!", you shake your head, reassuring them you'll be fine and right back.
it's a few minutes later that you find yourself seated by the secluded island of what seems to be a kitchen. "a house party." you figure out, still unsure if you should've placed blind faith in your captain and teammates. "not your usual scene?" comes a voice prodding its way beside you. you jump, just a little, turning around to meet hazel brown eyes that crinkle mischief at you. the man before you is donning an all denim fit, it makes you wonder if he's not close to blushing red in this humidity but you let it pass. "not really. i assume this is your usual scene though." you quip back, the man before you throwing his head back in a silent giggle.
"heeseung." he extends his hand which you take a little hesitantly. it's not long after you exchange names that you find yourself introduced to heeseung's friends, all of them welcoming and sweet, out of which, jay confirms himself to be the party host. both heeseung and you don't stray too far into private lives of eachother, maybe that is what attracts you to him, the mystery. you can't deny that he is more than decent looking, plump pink lips, doe looking eyes that may otherwise fool you into thinking he carries this weirdly sinister vibe. a sharp jawline too, you're almost sure he knows he serves a face that women and men would line up for alike.
the attraction, though, is mutual. or so, heeseung convinces you to think as his fingertips meet your satin clad hips with ease and familiarity. he leads you towards the same secluded corner, "dance with me?" he asks and you oblige, not questioning why it has to be here, infact, you're glad it's here rather than in the midst of sweaty teenage bodies that are not yet ripe enough to enter parties like this. what snaps you back to reality is his hands, that need no permission as it follows a trail circling your hips, pulling you flush against his.
maybe it's the alcohol that heeseung offered before or maybe it's the intimate proximity you two keep dancing around but the heat in the air, whether the temperature or the tension, is palpable, almost shocking in a way that it sends hot sparks down your spine. resting your head against his shoulder, you wrap an arm around him, his warm, intoxicated breath fanning over your ears. no words exchanged, really, just the synced beating of your hearts and need to feel eachother up that finally has heeseung snapping.
exhaling shakily, you nod when he asks to take you somewhere else. he's gentle as he encloses your wrist in his palm, pulling you towards the stairs that was strictly prohibited for others. perks of being jay's best friend, you reckon. the moment you enter an unoccupied room, his lips are on yours before he pulls away in a jiffy, panic settling onto his face, "is that okay, y/n?" when you nod meekly, he shuts his eyes for just a second, muttering a "fuck" under his breath before he's pushing his lips onto yours and maneuvring your body behind until your backside meets the wall. "so pretty," he murmurs into the kiss.
you roll your hips involuntarily into his, it has heeseung gritting his teeth, jaw slack and eyes purely filled with desire. "just like that, baby, do that again—you listen so well to me, pretty girl." heeseung is sure he's rambling by now, oh, he definitely is as he tells you how to rut against him pathetically. the sultry lighting of the room only enhances your need for one another, you've never felt the urge to ravage someone like this before and you know you have to ravage heeseung before this night ends if you don't want to wake up the next morning with a guilty and regret filled heart.
he coaxes your lips to meet his again, this time the contact utterly messy and just downright filthy. you can almost taste the very remnants of his drink from earlier if you shoved your tongue down just a little deeper. meanwhile, heeseung is quick in feeling you up, pushing at your knees, "spread 'em, baby, that's it," he begs, instantly losing all self control and falling to his knees when you whine, asking him to ease the ache between your legs. "wider...there you go, atta girl." he praises, soft hands cupping your knees as his lashes flutter when he looks up at you.
with a lopsided grin, he hooks a finger at the hem of your dress, lifting it just enough for your panties to peek at him. he grunts at the little wet patch that dampens and soils the middle of your panties, leaning in to disgustingly sniff at it before licking once, twice, thrice, enough to taste you through the cotton. you're shaking, beyond control and unable to balance your body by yourself so you place your hands at his shoulders, pulling him needily into you as your back arches into the wall.
pushing your entire weight onto heeseung, who only groans as he ruts his increasingly evident boner into the ground, you hook your legs around his neck. he holds onto your thighs desperately, a whimper escaping his kiss swollen lips as his tongue slithers through the side of your panties to lick at your cunt. he delicately plants a kiss over your clit, making you shudder with a broken moan, as he finds his head heavy with the need to taste you, to make you cum. so, he does just that.
heeseung finds a comfortable pace at licking through your folds, dragging his wet muscle from side to side, then up and down. he repeats the action before nipping at your clit gently, soothing the prick with a prod of his tongue. "so sweet, just like honey, baby. that's it, you gon' cum for me?" he asks sweetly against your sopping pussy, nose glistening with your juices. "look at me, y/n, my pretty girl. want you to watch me as you come undone on my tongue, okay?" you struggle to open your eyes, nodding before you do anyway.
rapid strokes of his tongue have you unstable, shaking and withering under his touch while you try your best to keep your eyes open and in contact with his as he licks at you until no end. "say my name, baby, don't be shy. let me hear your pretty moans." you let a moan rip through the confines of your throat, rocking your hips messily against his face. "no, don't move." he hisses with a displeased smirk, shaking his head to show his disapproval. "let me do all the work, just sit and take it, got it?"
just like that, the ebbs of your orgasm crash against the little pebbles, rocking you through, only for heeseung to hold you still as he continues to devour you as you come down from your high. with a final suck of your clit, he parts from your cunt, face absolutely marred by your release. "good girl, did that feel good?" he coos, tapping at your thigh, signalling you to carefully put down your leg as he makes much effort to stand up.
when you nod, pulling him into another kiss, he chuckles, trapping you against the wall yet again. "yeah? in that case, shouldn't you return the favour?" he presses a few kisses down your neck, leaving a trail of sparks in its wake. "let me make you feel good, hee." you answer in words this time, making heeseung widen his eyes but he nods, eyeing the floor once before he looks up at you, "kneel." dropping to your knees, your fingers work quickly as they unzip his denim pants. a tent visible as you cup his clothed length, you lick your lips eagerly as you imagine feeling him fill up the entirety of your mouth.
you tug at his boxers, leaving it bunched up at his knees, immediately pressing a hasty kiss at the head of his veiny cock. you notice how it is curved at the tip, pink and angry. this forces heeseung to snake a hand into your hair, clutching the strands at the roots warningly, "don't tease, pretty girl, get on with it." he doesn't have to say it twice before you are nestling his cock in the home of your wet and warm cavern. you let it soak in there for a while, not attempting to please him just yet as you adjust to his size.
soon after, flattening your tongue, you hollow your cheeks as you start to set a steady rhythm into bobbing your head for him. licking at the underside, you ensure not an inch of his cock is left untouched by you, the part that doesn't fit in your mouth caressed by your soft hands. "just for me to ruin, fuck, yes!" heeseung is blessed, really, to have a girl truly attentive to his needs, the way he wants to be touched and pleased, repeating the actions that seems to make him teeter at the edge of his orgasm. lucky bastard!
right when you think you should fasten your pace to meet with his cum painting the insides of your mouth, heeseung abruptly pulls at your mouth, his now semi soft dick covered in your spit resting at your lips, "can i cum on your face, pretty girl?" with no answer, you unzip the back of your dress, letting it pool at your hips. unclasping your bra, you hold your tits up, motioning him to slide his cock in between. this causes heeseung to let out husky groan, trying not to bust right then. he loves the way you're so proactive, he can't help it!
he squirms from the sudden increase in stimulation as you use your tits as a makeshift fleshlight, wrapping it around his now hardening cock tightly as he fucks into the space you provide him. letting a sliver of your tongue peek out, you lick at his tip each time his cock almost lodges against your lips, instantly making him cum. he sucks in a sharp breath as he spills all of him that's worth, over your tits and the lower half of your face. pretty, he thinks, fingers unconsciously reaching for his phone.
"can i take a photo of you, pretty girl—" the door to the room the two of you are in is knocked upon fiercely, "heeseung, you in here, man?" upon hearing jay, heeseung scurries to bring out tissues from the bedside table, "yes, what's up?" in three swipes, he cleans you up, cursing when his finger is also stained by his release. before he could wipe it off, though, you bring up his cum glistening finger to your lips, tongue darting out to lick it clean. "fuck, you're gonna be the death of me!" he whispers, pressing an open mouthed kiss at your lips, tasting himself in the process. "niki has been throwing up nonstop, man, i can't find the others, hurry up, will you?" you two hear the receding footsteps of a rather pissy jay, laughing into eachother once you're sure he's gone.
easing into eachother, "can we do this again, y/n? i'd really like to fuck you open, if you'd let me." he asks, his brash words lighting up a reddened blush on your cheeks, "yes, i'd love that." before you could exchange numbers though, jay knocks yet again, an impertinent cockblock, you suppose. "i have to go—see you around?" you nod, smiling at heeseung who leans down to kiss your cheek. "see you around, heeseung."
you don't remember how you get home that night after having freshened up in the room's attached restroom. all you think of for the next few days is heeseung's lingering touches, his whines and soft exhales, the way his hips bucked into your touch when you sucked him right. safe to say that you haven't been able to contact him either, having used your god given stalking skills on instagram to no avail.
it's been a few weeks, having been busy with volleyball practice and packing to move to your campus dorm. now, it's d—day! there's cardboard boxes piled up, with two suitcases of yours filled to the brim with clothes you can't bring yourself to leave behind in your childhood home. after a tearful parting with your family, you find yourself cuffed with the seatbelt on and your bestfriend driving you to the university to help you move in. while you do have much unpacking to do, it is also your first day at university!
bidding goodbye to your friend once they had helped you get your boxes and suitcases in, you change your outfit for the first class, not wanting to be late. after a whirlwind of trying to find your class, which happens to be your homeroom hour, you settle into one of the desks in the spacious room. although it's just the first day, the room is still loud with whispers and chatters about the exciting life at university. the class, however, hushes at some point, and while you were preoccupied on your phone, you hear a familiar voice.
"goodmorning, guys! how has your first day been so far?" your heart races erratically in its place, unsure if you've just misplaced the voice and its owner or if you're really doomed. slowly looking up, you find yourself glancing at heeseung, who looks at his phone for a split second before he pays attention up front. he hasn't noticed you yet, smile just as charming as it was when he first greeted you. as if on cue, all the memories from a few weeks ago flood in to liven up the black of your mind.
you try not to make eye contact with the man as he introduces himself and shares his email with the students for future assistance. however, when you look up to sneak a glance at him again, you see him staring right at you, wide eyed. you're fucked and not quite literally.

an overwhelming rush of noise fills my ears as soon as I enter the busy dressing room.
I knew working as famous model and designer aeri uchinaga's assistant was gonna be loaded, but my first day on the job being the same day as one of miss uchinaga's bi-annual fashion show was not expected. I had to push through an uncountable amount of stylists, designers, assistants, coordinators, and makeup artists to make it to miss uchinaga's personal private dressing room, which was crowded in it of itself, even if she was the only model in that room.
she's famous for having the most grand fashion shows, especially the shows showcasing her summer and winter collections which she hosts twice every year for her designer brand, one around the start of the summertime, and one before the winter season, such as this one today. she spends months preparing for it every year, so it's even a wonder how it was possible for me to show up out of the blue so suddenly, literally on the day of one of the most important days of her year.
"you, rookie, did you bring the earrings set I asked of you?" the assertive voice of a man working on sorting through jewelry asks me, not even looking up from his work.
I stumble through the crowd of people to get to him, fishing the small box containing the earrings out of my bag.
"yessir, I fetched them this morning," I hand him the jewelry. he hums, snatching the box out of my hand to check the contents, continuing on with his sorting without even looking up at me.
"hey you, did you coordinate with the production crew about the lights? those things are important," a woman with a headset and a clipboard approached me.
"ah yes miss, they said they'd readjust the color to a cooler tone," I reply, nodding my head.
"good," a simple response before turning away and scurrying off.
"where's that fucking assistant- you! are you miss uchinaga's assistant?" an aggressive voice calls out for me near the vanity table.
I whip my head around and hurry over, "yessir, I'm her new assistant!"
he groans in annoyance and side eyes me, "whatever, took you long enough. get the hairdryer quickly we don't have all day."
I nod furiously before searching the room overloaded with items for said hairdryer, looking through the cart of hair and makeup equipment.
I hurried back to him and handed over the instrument before commotion increased, a firm and loud voice announcing, "miss uchinaga to proceed with hair and makeup!"
suddenly, the aforementioned lady herself exits a black curtain from across the room, adorning a beautiful black dress that hugs her figure perfectly, lacey sleeves flowing down her arms, her curves accentuated gorgeously.
a lump gets stuck in my throat as she sways her way towards the director's chair propped in front of the vanity. I lower my gaze and bow my head slightly as she passes by me, the breeze that follows her strut hitting my frozen-still body and making my breath hitch in anxiety. she comfortably sits herself down in the black chair, barely noticing my presence.
"hellooooo? rookie? get a fucking grip!" a female voice snaps me out of my trance accompanied by loud clapping in front of my face. "pay attention! can you get the goddamn hand mirror?"
"yes of course, I'm sorry miss!" I nervously pick at my fingers and push through the crowd again, rummaging through the cart for the item she requested.
"god how useless, why did you even choose her boss?" the same stylist gossips towards miss uchinaga.
"choose who? what are you talking about?" her graceful and soft voice replies nonchalantly.
"that nobody over there, searching through the cart like a homeless person in a dumpster, so gross..." the stylist continues, my stomach churning at the vile words.
miss uchinaga hums unsurely, "be more specific on who you're talking about, I don't have time for useless banter."
the stylist clears her throat, "your, assistant, I guess if that's what you can call whoever that thing is."
my hands clench into fists at the vicious comments she keeps making until miss uchinaga says, "she's here for a reason isn't she? means she's qualified."
the short and simple response shuts the stylist up quickly, returning to her work. I reluctantly hand the mirror over to her, her grip aggressive as she snatches the item from my hand. and I continue to meet the demands of the people in the busy room, running back and forth fetching things for people and assisting in helping everyone as best as I could.
it had to have been at least two hours of constant movement and working, everyone in that room not stopping for even a second. eventually, all the work that needed to be done was finished and we all had to proceed to the stage and start the show. I was tasked to stay behind and wait for miss uchinaga as her assistant, ready to help her with anything she needed.
and so gradually, the room had cleared of all the people, leaving an unfamiliar silence to hang in the air, my ears almost ringing from the emptiness. I stood there nearly in the middle of the room, feet glued to the floor and my head hanging down, eyes affixed onto my shoes. only but the soft rustling movement of the woman in front of me was faintly heard.
her melodious humming filled the room warmly, a comfortable tune dancing off her lips as she touched herself up and checked her appearance. I continue to accompany her and leave her to do her own thing, more focused on the carpet under where I stand.
"hey, come here will you?" the soft sounding but firm request summons me forward, moving to stand behind her chair.
"m-miss uchinaga?" I curse under my breath at the stutter, embarrassed by it.
she seemingly dismisses the mistake and continues, "you're my new assistant, aren't you?"
I gain enough confidence to lift my gaze and look at her through the mirror, the woman still diligently observing herself, "yes miss, I am."
"what's your name then assistant?" she fixes her hair one last time and adjusts her jewelry before turning and facing me, leaning back against the vanity with her arms crossed.
"y/n l/n miss..." my gaze falters under her intense stare, eyes falling towards the floor again.
her hum in curiosity makes my eyes shoot back up towards her face.
"huh." she hums, observant gaze trailing my figure, up and down slowly.
I feel small under her stare, wanting to curl up and let the earth swallow me whole, feeling like aeri uchinaga is tearing me apart bit by bit with her critical eyes.
instead, a small but obvious smirk tugs at her lips, "cute."
a furious blush climbs my cheeks and spreads across my face at her quick insignificant comment that still had made my heart swell and increase the speed at which it beat.
before any more words could be exchanged, she pushes herself off the table, handing her phone and keys to me, "you're with me, stand backstage and just watch, drive me home after."
I put her items into my bag and nod, following her out of the room and towards the stage. a cacophony of sounds fill the room once again as we hurriedly make our way there, people scrambling around with last minute touch-ups on their models.
the production crew checks in with miss uchinaga, confirming the setup of the stage from the lights to the props, as well as the flow of the show and every other detail she demanded information on. I stand right behind her and listen in, making sure if she needs anything I'd be ready to assist. they finish their discussion swiftly, the crew rushing back to their stations and miss uchinaga ushering the two of us towards an empty area with a clear view of the stage, the audience members sitting around and chatting having been in sight as well.
"you get the princess treatment for today pretty," she turns to me, a pleased look on her face.
the clutch on my bag hardens at her soft words, feeling my face heat up, "th-thank you, miss uchinaga…"
"y/n, call me aeri," her voice is gentle but low as she tells me what to do.
I stutter in response, "but, miss uchinaga, I'm- I'm not… I don't think it's that appropriate y-yet…"
"please y/n, we're gonna be together for a while so you should get used to saying my name, darling," she takes the smallest step towards me, her presence towering over me.
I feel her stare drill holes into my soul, her intimidating aura overwhelming me. she traps me when I look up into her eyes, unable to move my sight away from her. my stomach fills with butterflies, the beautiful goddess before me having such an alluring air to her. even in this crowded venue, filled to the brim with busy people, they're all tuned out, feeling like me and her were the only two to exist in this moment.
fuck, how am I supposed to work with her?
"got that, cutie?" the pet names continuing to make me want to implode.
I swallow and nod pathetically, "mhm."
"say my name then, pretty," she demands, her siren-like eyes searing my skin.
"a-aeri…"
"good girl, y/n."
oh my god, what the fuck.
"miss uchinaga!" a voice calls for her, snapping me out of the trance she put me under.
the woman in front of me huffs and turns towards the man with a headset that had poked his head into the room, searching for her.
"miss, you're on soon," he pants, motioning for her to get moving.
she raises her eyebrows and nods slightly at him in approval, shooing him away before she turns back to me.
"enjoy the show okay?" her tone is calm and comforting, laying a gentle hand on my shoulder and patting me, giving it a final squeeze, strutting away after I nod my head at her request.
the clicking of her heels fades and once she's completely out of sight, I release a deep breath I hadn't realized I'd been holding in. I clutch at my heart, bunching up the material of my sweater, feeling it beat out of my chest. my head is dizzy and my shoulder burns, the effect and touch she had on me still lingering, feeling my knees buckle at the mere thought of her, leaning back against a nearby wall for stability.
though I didn't have long to recover as the lights on the stage dimmed and the runway lit up, whispering from backstage heard faintly as music starts, the first model swaying their way onto the catwalk. I try my best to ignore the pounding of my heart as aeri uchinaga's winter collection is displayed on the models that walk across the stage.
the outfits are beautiful, stylish coats and jackets adorning the range of models, the clothes all dark colors but still with a certain attractive charm. arrangements of sweaters, slacks, and bags that compliment every outfit perfectly, each piece meticulously and specifically picked out to match each other. I'm mesmerized by the variety of fashion that these models are crowned in, aeri and her team's hard work apparent with the quality and effort put into every thread.
I become so engrossed and enamored by the show, that as soon as it starts does it end, the last of the models strutting off the stage finally as the winter collection showcase concludes. the music continues however, aeri suddenly appearing, swaying her way into the middle of the runway as the audience applauds. her ethereal aura palpable, presence so grand even while she's simply walking. making it to the center, she gives the audience a graceful bow, a charming smile, and an elegant wave before turning and sashaying off the stage once again.
mid my own applause does aeri emerge from the curtain separating me and the main part of the backstage area, pushing her curtain bangs out of her face with her fingers.
"how was it, princess?" she asks genuinely, tilting her head to the side as she awaits my answer.
my heart begins to pound once again, feeling like she really wanted to hear my honest opinion.
"not that how I think matters-" she immediately interrupts me.
"why wouldn't it? you're practically becoming my second-in-command, I wanna know how you think, see how truly compatible we are."
a sweet smile emerges onto her cherry colored lips, eyes and expression expectant for my response.
I nervously reply, "that's... really thoughtful of you, a-aeri."
her soft giggle permeates through the small space, my chest thumping at the sound, "don't mention it, just tell me how you feel."
"well, I think it was truly excellent," I state confidently.
her face looks pleased, but she looks as if she was waiting for more details, and so I continue, "the color palate was so tasteful, you and the brand have always been good at darker colors, I know that's your specialty. though they can be perceived as dull, it was so masterfully crafted that it didn't feel boring in the slightest. it was even elevated if I can say, accessories perfectly matching with each outfit, from the jewelry to the bags, incredible."
I got so lost in my enthusiasm about the display that I had practically spaced out, unaware to the joyous woman in front of me. looking back at her, an excited expression lay on her face, cheeks plump and smile wide watching as I rambled. her crescent eyes smiled at me, hair falling perfectly around her face and resting at her shoulders, just so beautifully happy.
feeling flustered, I stutter, "oh! I uhh, didn't mean to ramble so much, miss uch- a- aeri... I apologize."
"don't, I like it," whispering simply.
under her heart-throbbing stare, I look away, "we-well! we must get going, there's still your after party to attend."
she groans, "ughhh, fuck the after party, I don't care. too tired anyway, bossing people around all day to get things right is exhausting."
I return my gaze back towards the bored-looking woman, "but this is still your event, it might be strange if you're absent."
"why, are you gonna stop me? hm doll?" her eyes are lethal staring into me.
"m-miss... all I'm saying is the people might be disappointed... I can't stop whatever you'd like to do however, you're the boss of course..."
"mhm, and don't forget that okay? you listen to me," aeri's tone is firm and dangerous, dripping with authority but also sensuality, suddenly appearing almost right against me.
she crosses an arm over her chest and rests her other arm's elbow on it, her free hand slowly pointing a finger at my wide-eyed expression.
"got that, darling?" she uses the stray digit to tilt my head up, placing it under my chin, her touch igniting a fire on my skin.
I pathetically hum in response, sounding closer to a terrified squeak more than anything.
"you listen so well, don't you?" she smiles almost sinisterly, taking her fingertip and tapping it cutely on my nose.
she steps back slightly, giving me space again to which I release a deep breath, feeling like I can breathe.
aeri sighs annoyedly, "but you're right, my absence at my OWN show's after party is peculiar, but I don't wanna go. truly too exhausted for it. let's go home."
"I'll have to inform the organizers that you won't be attending. some important individuals were hoping to talk to you tonight," I respond, ever-so-slightly gaining back my composure.
"mm-mm, don't stress yourself about it," she shakes her head, resting her hands on her hips, "I'll shoot them a text and make the team send out packages with letters of me apologizing for it, no big deal."
"still aeri, I have to organize that-"
"I told you already y/n-ie, I got it, don't worry."
I let her win, a serious and unmoving expression on her face, "alright."
she gives a slight nod of approval, suddenly taking my hand gently, holding me by my fingers and leisurely dragging the two of us off. I let her guide me, aeri saying her goodbyes and goodnights to the hard-working team, telling certain individuals she would be contacting them in a bit to inform them of her absence. she leads me through the entire venue, seemingly having the most inconspicuous route to her car memorized, avoiding as many people as possible.
we arrive at the parking garage, her matte black sports car emerging into view.
"I'm driving?" I ask hesitantly.
she hums in approval, "never driven something like this before have you?"
the nervous nature apparent in my tone of voice, "that obvious?"
a giggle echoes through the garage full of expensive, high-end vehicles, "no worries darling, just think of a normal car with a bit more kick."
she was right, I had never driven such an expensive and sleek looking vehicle before, nervous to the possibility that I could damage it, especially knowing it was aeri's car.
it was almost as if she read my mind, "I have at least a handful more that you can crash, it's no problem if it gets damaged."
I choke and cough, "I'd hope I wouldn't get into a car crash!"
she turns and smiles at me, arriving in front of the vehicle, "you won't, of course you won't."
I reluctantly nod, dragging myself over and opening the passenger side's door, aeri climbing in with a small grin. I close the door, making my way over to the driver's seat, trying to breathe and calm my nerves. I settle into the custom printed leather seats, dark red embroidery stitched into the pristine interior, a fresh and clean smell wafting through the car.
"it is a ferrari though, so maybe don't damage it," she comments quietly, looking over at the woman whose legs are crossed and hands placed neatly on her lap, head leaning back against the seat with her eyes closed.
aeri is so incredibly nonchalant about the situation, it somehow comforts me, starting up the car and gaining enough courage to start driving. the trip back to her place was silent, peaceful cruising through the city, illuminated by the street lights, the two of us quiet in the car. she was right, it wasn't too bad but it felt like I could speed up and go too fast at any moment, so I tried to get a feel of how the vehicle operated, focusing on getting used to it. every other stoplight, I'd check the gps and then up at aeri, her resting figure so serene, the girl so still and pretty, unsure if she was really asleep or just resting her eyes.
her beauty is so utterly attractive and alluring, making my pulse rise every time I lay my eyes on her. what trouble will I possibly encounter working for this stunning woman? and how long will I survive?
almost in the blink of an eye, we arrive at her apartment complex. I find a parking space for the car, skipping the valet according to aeri's instruction, not wanting anyone else to touch her car. once parked, I finally let out a sigh, turning to my boss whose eyes flutter open, feeling the car's movement stop.
elegantly, like a princess, she sits upright and brushes stray hairs from her face, "home?" her voice raspy.
I nod carefully, climbing out of the car and opening her door. she tiredly stumbles out as I hold out my hand for her to grasp, taking it and stabilizing herself. her touch ignites my skin once again, her fingers lacing around mine once she's standing, shooting me a charming smile.
once again, I felt my stomach flutter, my whole body just succumbing to the ravishing woman whose hand was firmly holding mine, pulling me towards the elevator up to the penthouse. the ding of the elevator arriving and opening up to her place forced me back to reality, eyes widening at the sight of the grand residence.
walking inside and removing our heels, I got to absorb the surroundings. the motion detected light shone over us, not too bright but enough to outline the rest of the place. it was tall and spacious, high roofs supported by shiny white pillars, the wooden floors dark and clean, grand piano next to the comfortable array of sofas and armchairs, expensive accessories from the brand decorating the empty spaces on the walls, the breathtaking view over the city being the most prominent feature, large glass window panes displaying the incredible sight, leaving me in utter awe.
"like it? it's pretty nice," aeri's softly asks from beside me.
"you've got a magnificent place," I reply, still quite awestruck.
she chuckles once, letting go of my hand and walking forward, flipping the switches that dimly light up the living room in a warm tone, "you're a very honest individual, aren't you y/n?"
"is that a bad thing?" you ask, a little reluctantly, following her around.
"it's exactly the type of thing that's necessary in this industry, especially since you're working for me. honesty and transparency are some of the biggest traits I value out of my employees, within people in general really," she flips on the light switch to her big walk-in closet, "and you're my direct right hand, the most important person that I need to have be honest with me."
I stand by the door, taking in the room. it was such a large room for solely being a closet, clothes, accessories, and shoes all lined up against the walls, an almost never-ending selection presented on display. it was set-up like a designer store, except this was aeri uchinaga's own personal closet in her home.
she stood in front of a vanity area on the other side of the room, tiredly removing her jewelry from herself, hearing the metal rings clang against the marble countertop. she was quite careless with the items, throwing them off of her with little to no regard for damage, making me cringe slightly, worried they might break.
"come sit," she calls me over softly, motioning with her hand behind her towards the seating at the middle of the room.
I walk over, observing her diligently remove her earrings, sitting down with my legs crossed, once again watching her through the mirror.
"have you eaten yet, y/n?" the unexpected question startles me slightly.
"I can't remember the last time I have today," I respond honestly.
she hums, "well, let me get cleaned up and share dinner together then, shall we?"
I blink confusedly, eyes wide, looking like a deer in headlights at what she said.
"I need to get to know you more anyway, I think while I have you here, it's as good a time as any."
"it's quite late and you're tired, I should get going home..." I bite the inside of my cheek, her eyes staring back at me through the reflection.
"I insist," her voice is firm.
I gulp down my nervousness, nodding my head at her, aeri smiling at me, "good."
I watch as she reaches around to the zipper on the back of her dress, finished with the removal of her jewelry. her fingers struggle to get a good hold onto the metal and she calls me over.
"y/n, come help me with this zipper," aeri's firm but alluring voice demands me, urging me to walk up behind her, her back filling my view.
I swallow down a lump in my throat as my shaky hands reach up towards the metal resting at the top of her back. I grip the zipper and slowly pull downwards, being careful not to drag too quickly or damage the material of the designer dress. I feel the intense stare of my boss drill holes into me through the mirror, her hands moving her hair out of the way.
"nice and slow pretty, don't wanna damage anything do you?" her raspy voice fills my ears.
"y-yes ma'am," I stutter out, continuing to unzip her dress.
I feel sweat come from my palms, the speed at which I was unzipping her dress achingly slow, even though it wasn't even that gradual. carefully, aeri's back exposed itself, her milky skin emerging into view. my hands feel unsteady as they work, my breathing becoming uneven too, nervous to mess up and also seeing the woman's bare back. I try to simply focus on the task at hand, staring directly at the zipper and nothing else.
"you got it, doing so well for me," aeri deeply breathes out, her eyes half-lidded and seductive through the reflection.
her gaze makes me absolutely weak, I feel fucking insane.
eventually, the torture is over though, reaching the end of the zipper's trail.
I step back and stutter, "y-you can finish cl-cleaning up, I'll wait in the living room!"
I turn away and speed walk out of the closet, patting my skin dry from the nervous sweat, plopping myself down on the sofa and covering my face with my clammy hands. oh my god I wanna scream. what the actual fuck am I getting myself into?
Tumblr media
the night calmed down slightly. we shared a light dinner while aeri asked questions about me, why I was interested in the position, what my goals are, what do I wanna learn from working with her, how long I plan to work for her, all answers which she seemed to be satisfied with. she asked about me personally too, where I'm from, my background, my education, my interests, all of which she was intrigued by.
we talked quite normally for a few hours, having had a couple of drinks already, feeling the intoxication climb up slowly. eventually, we moved to the couch to converse more comfortably. she sat right down next to me, handing me a glass.
"hoping you enjoy red wine too," aeri settles close to me, leaning against her arm propped up on the back of the couch, taking a sip from her glass.
I take a sip from mine, "it's sweet so I'm happy."
"ah good, I like a drink just not when it tastes like it," she giggles.
"oh," she readjusts herself, "let me ask you, are there any limits or boundaries you'd like to set for yourself with me right now?"
her question catches me off guard, "I'm sorry?" I ask, almost confused.
she catches the puzzled sound in my voice, "well, I wanna know if there's anything you wouldn't wanna do. I'll have you running a lot of different errands, some of them you could say are... physically taxing?"
her voice lingers through the dimly lit room, her face illuminated by the shine of the moon and city lights through the window, "I'm simply curious is all miss l/n, could and would you do any and everything for me?"
there's something sinister in the way she talks, her voice deep, the words coming from her throat in an almost inaudible rasp, but loud enough to resonate through my head. her question rings in my ears, what could she mean?
"I will perform any task you set for me to the best of my capability," I give her a simple and general answer to respond, unsure of what else I can say.
she hums, seemingly pondering, her face looking quite deep into thought. she looks up at me, capturing my stare with hers, the energy suddenly shifting when we lock eyes. a smirk tugs at the corner of her lip slowly, making my stomach flip. her gaze is filled with an allure of seduction, her sudden fingertip tracing my exposed knee close to her making me jolt in surprise, a chill running down my back.
"any task huh?"
my breath hitches when the cold condensation of her wine drips onto my knee, trailing down my leg. she taps her glass against my knee again, droplets splashing off and running down my skin, making me shiver slightly. I watch as she lifts the glass off of me and gulps down another sip of the sweet alcohol, her lips tainted red.
I hum in agreement to the question, the sound coming from my lips almost inaudible, getting stuck in my throat from how flustered I became.
she holds her glass with her other hand now, returning the hand that touched my knee back to it and placing it on me, her fingers dragging across my skin, caressing it, "god, you're cute."
her fingers trail up and down the exposed part of my thigh, playing very slightly with the hem of my skirt, not trailing any further up. her touch absolutely ignites me on the inside, constant chills going through me, my breathing becoming uneven.
"aeri..." I whisper quietly, the feeling of her touching me too much for me to handle.
"what is it darling? use your words," her voice is soft but menacing, hand grabbing the underside of my knee to pull me closer to her, my body pushed up against her.
I gasp at the movement, almost spilling my wine. she looks down at me, a hazy look in her half-open siren eyes, her lips slightly parted and wet as she licks them clean. my pulse rises impossibly high, feeling like my heart is about to burst out of my chest, aeri's hand trailing higher on my thigh, crawling slowly under my skirt.
I tear my gaze away from her stare and grip her wrist, clearing my throat, "a-aeri... I don't think we should be this close..."
she grabs my wrist back, sliding her hand into mine and interlacing our fingers, bringing my hand to her mouth, "well pretty, I just can't help it you know?"
I swallow down the lump in my throat and tense as her plump lips press against my hand, her eyes fluttering shut as she kisses it achingly slow. the way she moves is so mesmerizing, her head craning to the side as she kisses it again, the sound of her releasing her lips from my skin resonates, feeling the wet spot she left on me.
I break out of the spell she has me under and slip my hand from her grasp, gripping the hem of my skirt down, crossing my legs tightly as the desire for her grew within me, "we should call it a night, you've already had a few drinks..."
she doesn't let up, fingers dragging across my arm, "I just need to know more about you y/n, aren't you curious too?"
I shiver at her question, "aeri... I can't... we shouldn't..."
"what's stopping us?" she grabs the glass out of my hand and places both of them on the coffee table, freeing our hands.
she pulls me by the collar of my sweater, her face coming closer to mine.
her lips hover right over mine as she whispers against them, "no one has to know."
I place my hands against her chest, holding her back from coming any closer to me, my breathing shaky, "you... you don't want this... you're just drunk aeri..."
"I do, I do want this y/n. push me away if you don't want this too," she holds one of my wrists, "please... stop me."
her voice whispered to me, the pleading desperation in her tone evident. and fuck me, it worked, my entire body burning, feeling myself start to throb.
I hold in my breath, resting my forehead against hers, "I... I do want this too, I don't want you to stop..."
there's a glint in aeri's eyes at my words, her big hand immediately grasping my neck and pulling me into her, smashing her blood red lips against mine. the kiss is greedy and desperate, her mouth molding against mine sloppily, our breathing heavy as tiny noises escape my throat. I taste the sweet red wine on her juicy soft lips as I melt further into her, feeling my entire body heat up in desire, clutching at her tank top and bunching it up in my hands, pulling her closer, making sure there's absolutely no space in between us. her other hand grips under my knee, pulling me into her lap, straddling her as she tilts her head to the side to make out deeply with me.
her hand grips my thigh under my skirt tightly, other hand pulling my neck in as she slips her tongue into my wet mouth. I sigh out at the intrusion, letting her move freely against my needy tongue. the flavor of alcohol and saliva intoxicate me completely, her deep groans vibrating in my mouth, making me whimper in response against her lips. my hands thread through her perfectly soft hair while both of her hands grip my thighs, rubbing them up and down before squeezing my hips, finally landing on my exposed waist, sliding under my cropped sweater, and guiding me on her lap.
I moan deeply against her, my core grinding on hers, aeri also releasing a long pleasured groan at the sensation. we finally pull away, leaning our foreheads against each other as we both pant, out of breath.
"fuck y/n, you're perfect," she sighs out, chest rising and falling, clutching the locks of her hair tightly to keep her close to me.
"aeri, I need you..." I desperately whine, my core aching painfully.
I pull back slightly to look her in the eyes and they're dark, clouded with lust and desire, which makes the pulsing between my thighs pound harder.
her voice is low and sultry, "tell me how badly."
the grip on my waist tightens as she guides my body once again, brushing my center against her own, making both of us moan.
"so, fucking, badly," I gasp out with each grind of my hips.
her hands guide me slowly but roughly, the contact of our clothed cores driving me insane, my stomach wanting to explode from the tightness. I grip her tightly as she continues to grind me against her, her fingers digging into my skin, my eyes squinted shut as the pleasure gradually but intensely builds inside me. I try to keep my eyes open, looking down at her focused stare, so hypnotized by the moment, feeling her gaze memorize the look of desire painted all over my face.
"let me help you," she whispers against my chest, one hand pulling my sweater up and over my breasts.
I release a hand from her hair and grip her shoulder with a gasp, the one unclasping my bra.
"it's okay," her teeth pulling my bra off, "trust me beautiful, I've got you."
her words make me lighten my hold on her shoulder, allowing her to keep going. she hums softly before exposing my boobs to the air, turning my cheeks pink in embarrassment. it swiftly washes away though as aeri's lips mumble against my skin.
"so pretty," my breath hitches when she attaches her mouth to my nipple, sucking the bud in and flicking her hot wet tongue against it.
I moan out loudly, the sensation had my eyes rolling back, arching myself into her as I grinded my own hips against her lap. her tongue swirled around my nipple, the saliva trailing down my chest, aeri using it to spread against my entire tit. I pant as she harshly but quickly bites down around my bud, soothing the shocking pain with her warm muscle. she switches to my other boob, spitting onto my nipple before swiping her tongue, sucking my entire tit into her mouth as she plays with the bud on her tongue.
"fuck aeri..." I whine in pleasure, both of my hands gripping at her shoulders, fingernails digging into them.
"like that?" she asks incoherently against my boob.
I nod mindlessly as I feel her smile against my chest, "already losing your mind huh? so sensitive baby."
she chuckles deeply, the sound vibrating on her tongue as it moves against my nipple. with one hand on my waist, she brings her other hand under my skirt again, creeping up my inner thigh and caressing her knuckle against my clothed clit. I jolt in her hold, biting down on my lip to suppress an embarrassingly loud whimper.
"don't hold back, let me hear you," she detaches from my chest, cupping my face and pulling me in.
her fingertip traces against my slit, "you're so fucking wet darling, you did want this, didn't you?"
"uh huh," I pant out, her finger pressing against my clit.
"fuck, I'm gonna ruin you."
aeri kisses me again, locking lips with mine, slipping her tongue into my mouth as I return her desperation with as much passion, thrashing my tongue back against hers. I feel her carefully push my panties to the side, two fingers sliding around my clit and dipping in and out of my slick slit, getting them wet from my dripping pussy.
"god you are soaked, you poor thing..." she teases after releasing me from her lips, teeth dragging my bottom lip, "must ache so bad."
"it does, fuck it does, aeri please please please," I beg desperately, "please fuck me..."
she groans against my lips, "you are so pretty when you beg, I'm gonna get so addicted to every part of you."
I whimper when she pinches my clit, soothing it when she rubs it in circles, "especially with this perfect pussy of yours."
aeri starts to leave wet kisses across my neck as her fingers flick my clit back and forth, gradually getting faster. I lace my fingers through her hair, gripping her head against my neck as my other hand clutches onto her upper arm for support as she continues to play with my pussy. I'm gasping for air, feeling the breath knocked out of me with how overwhelming the sensation of pleasure within me grows. her fingers slide down to my opening, gathering the slick and slapping her hand against my folds.
she inserts those two fingers inside of me, slipping them in easily due to my wetness, her digits completely sheathed by my walls. I let out a blissful cry at the action, digging my nails into her skin, making her hiss.
she groans with me, "my god you're so tight, your pussy just sucked me in. you feel perfect around me."
carefully, aeri draws her digits back, thumb rubbing at my clit, before sinking them inside me again, fingertips landing against that spot so delicious that it pulls a moan of delight from my lips. her tongue drags across the length of my perspiring neck, hand working smoothly against my sopping cunt.
"fuck! right there aeri yes, so good..." I sigh breathlessly, hips grinding back against her hand.
"taking me so well princess, that's it," she coos.
she starts speeding up, a consistent but accelerating pace as she plunges in and out of my hole, the sounds of our pants and gushing of my entrance filling my ears, aeri's lips against my jaw.
she trails her lips up to my ear and whispers, "such a good girl."
her voice drips with seduction, making my eyes roll back harder when she slips in a third finger. I release a euphoric scream, the intrusion full of pain and pleasure as it stretches me open, burning like hellfire but felt so unfathomably heavenly.
"you're gonna take everything I give you darling, fuck I'm going insane," immediately thrusting her fingers into me swiftly.
"ohhhhh goddddd..." one long continuous loud moan is forced from my throat, each pound of her hand sending me into oblivion.
I bounce on her hand, her long thick digits curling perfectly inside of my core, spilling cum all over her palm, dripping down onto her thighs. she feels so unbelievably good, her moaning right next to my ear, feeling pleasure just from watching and fucking me, her sounds continuing to impossibly turn me on.
"gonna cum on my fingers, doll? wanna make a mess in my lap?" her voice breathy and raspy, questions sounding more like a demand.
I mumble an affirmative response, something I doubt she can even make out properly, a dark chuckle in my ear at my incoherence. her lips trail down my neck, placing sloppy markings across my collar, lifting my top up again and feeling her hot tongue lap rhythmically against my nipple. her hand spread wide to capture my boobs, sucking both buds into her mouth and brushing her teeth down against them, switching between flicking her tongue and biting down on my hardened nipples.
the sensations drive me into a blinding release of ecstasy, my eyes screwed shut and mouth hanging open, screaming out in complete and utter bliss as my pussy gushed around aeri's skillful hand, drenching the both of us. my head is thrown back while my hands claw at the woman holding me close, mouth still working on my chest, vibrations against my nipples from her moaning while she fucks me through my intense climax.
she gradually lessens the speed at which she thrusts into me, coming to a halt when she achingly slowly pulls her dripping fingers out of my leaking cunt and releases with a pop, cum flowing out with her digits. she drags her fingers across my slit, spreading my slick around the entire area, rubbing against my sensitive bundle of nerves. I thrash at the stimulation, the feeling too much for my body, too soon.
she pulls her hand back from my core, her mouth releasing from my chest so she can bring the hand up to her lips, sticking her tongue out and letting her fingers drag across it, licking up every drop of cum on her digits. even though my vision is hazy, the sight makes me gulp, feeling my center pulsate. I collapse onto her as she lets me fall into her neck, nose brushing against her nape. my body feels exhausted, her hands sliding under my sweater and wrapping her toned arms around me, hugging my limp figure while rubbing my back soothingly.
aeri kisses my shoulder, her lips mumbling against it, "good girl."
I bury my face into her warm neck, nuzzling my face against her skin as I try to regain my energy, resisting passing out. slowly, I drag my head away, resting my forehead against hers with my eyes still closed, relishing in the serenity for just a second.
I flutter my eyes open just enough to see her, a soft look on her face as she quietly asks on my lips, "are you okay, princess?"
her concern for me send butterflies erupting in my stomach, feeling so cared for, a contrast to her demeanor just a little while ago.
I sigh out a response of affirmation before breathing out, "one more..."
the two words ring in aeri's ears, the sweet look on her face shifting ominously.
"you mean it," it was more of a statement than a question.
I nod and a smirk spreads across her lips.
she pulls me up, sliding her shorts and panties down her legs, slipping your underwear off of me too, "good, because I'm throbbing like crazy and I need you to ease the ache."
aeri maneuvers our bodies until our legs are intertwined, holding me by my waist as my pussy hovers over hers. she slides her fingers up her slit, letting out a breathy sigh, before bringing her dripping digits up to my lips.
"taste what you've done," opening my mouth and sucking on her fingers, cleaning them of her delectable nectar.
she watches intently as my tongue works around her fingers, her eyes blown with desire and her wet lips stained red, slightly parted as I slowly blink up at her, meeting her stare.
"how fucking obedient, you just wanna be mine don't you? you're gonna love working for me, I'm gonna use you however I want and you'll enjoy it because you're mine, got it?" she growls, gripping my jaw with her fingers still in my mouth, pulling my face closer, "I own you y/n l/n."
"all yours..." I choke on her digits.
her hand slips from my face, returning to my waist and pulling me down to her pussy, guiding me to slide against her slippery core. moans drag out from both of our mouths, my forehead resting on hers, overstimulation still present in my body as our clits brush against each other, aeri grinding our cunts again. her fingers dig into my sides, sliding her pussy upwards to meet the grind of my hips. I reciprocate the motion, moving to meet her thrusts, our cunt juices mixing with one another.
the feeling is so orgasmic, panting onto each others lips as I fuck myself against her, the squelching sounds loud from our slippery centers. she cries moans onto my lips, threading my fingers through her soft dampened hair, massaging her head and pulling her into a messy makeout, swallowing her pleasurable noises. I suck on her tongue as she increases our pace, forcing my body to keep up with her grinding, her nails scratching my skin.
I release her tongue with a pop, her saliva coating my mouth as she groans out at every other thrust, "you feel- so fucking- good, ugh y/n!"
"aeri, aeri, aeri, aeri..." I chant her name incomprehensibly.
her speed becomes relentless, wanting more control as she lifts me up and pins me down against the sofa, my back against the plush cushions and hands falling from her hair, aeri's legs and entire body holding me down as she drills me harder. our cunts are impossibly slick, sliding against each other so pleasurably, our clits perfectly making out messily, wetness continuing to leak from our pussies. she brings her hand to grasp my thigh, hugging my leg to her body, the other hand grabbing a handful of my hair and pulling my head back. my hands clutch the material of her thin shirt, holding it hard enough to tear, not that anything other than aeri fucking me right now matters.
"I'm going fucking feral over this pussy, you're so perfect doll, you're all mine," she sounds so aggressive yet sexy as she ruins me.
the woman above me looks so strikingly other-worldly, the shine of her sweaty skin leaving her glowing in the faint lighting, her dampened hair flowing across her body, stray bangs sticking to her forehead, her strong arms gripping me possessively, her chest bouncing up and down so close to my heated face, her drenched and aching core slipping perfectly against mine. aeri uchinaga feels, looks, and is absolutely ethereal.
I feel my stomach tighten as her pace is unstoppable, so fast the couch even jerks from the movement. our moans are cries, screams of loud and complete bliss, her lips plump and hanging open, eyes rolled all the way back.
"I'm gonna fucking cum, I'm gonna fucking cum!" aeri cries with her raspy throat.
"please, please, cum with me!" I beg her, voice hoarse but audible, her eyes locking onto mine.
we stare into each other's eyes as we both burst, cum gushing from our pussies, squirting against our cunts. my vision goes blank and I see a blinding white light surge through my head, my body thrashing from the pleasure, the sensations causing screams to rip from my throat, hearing aeri groan just as delightfully. I feel our cum flow down my thighs, soaking my skirt and the cushion under us, unable to move regardless as my hands release their grip on her torn shirt.
I fall totally limp against the couch, aftershocks of the orgasm coursing through my body, making my entire figure jerk every so often. aeri collapses on top of me, carefully still, her hands releasing their tight grips on me, her head falling into the pillow I lay on, face against my cheek, her nose bumping my skin. her hot heavy gasps for air hit the side of my face as I bring my hand up to play with her hair, caressing her head.
suddenly, her arms slip under my sweater and wrap around my torso, lifting me up and flipping us over. the action makes me squeal, my limp body now resting on top of her thumping chest, breasts soft against mine. I melt into her warm embrace, feeling my body's exhaustion crawl over me, wanting to consume me into slumber. aeri starts her pleasant humming, vibrations from her chest transferring to mine, feeling my body ease and slowly succumb to sleep.
"my perfect girl, you're gonna be an amazing assistant, we're gonna work so well together," she whispers.
I hum in response and she pats my back, giving me approval to rest.
her hands caress me soothingly, kissing my forehead, "sleep with me, no one has to know."

The Only Reason _ Part 3
[Yandere!Sung Jinwoo x Worker!Reader - Mana Chaos AU]
Part 1 — Part 2 — Part 3 (here) — Part 4
Tumblr media
“Sung Jinwoo is an S-Rank Hunter…”
“Another one…”
“It’s been 2 years since Cha Hae-In too.”
Nowadays, the emergence of an S-Rank Hunter and some A-Rank Hunters was like a demon had crawled out of hell and into the human world to cause destruction. Strong Hunters were seen and painted as a double-edged sword. On one hand, they could bring about peace to normal—non-awakened—individuals by closing gates and raiding dungeons. On the other hand, they could bring about destruction in their wake due to <Outrage> and the innocence would be harmed.
Protocols like an awakened Hunter must report to the EMI instead of the Hunter Association because they have to keep track of stronger Hunters. Hunters must continuously measure their mana levels in case of a reawakening into a higher rank. It was unavoidable, no matter which country, because they prioritized ordinary people more.
Perhaps the only place where EMI regulations can’t touch is America. After what Thomas Andre had done, he singlehandedly protected his fellow Hunters and announced to the EMI that they couldn’t have their way with people who worked to protect them from the dangers known as gates and dungeons. There were some Hunters that escaped to America to join Thomas and his stance, there were also some that were unluckily caught by the EMI, and some that didn’t do anything. Such is the sway of a National Level Hunter.
Unlike Thomas, who had no weaknesses to use against, Jinwoo was different. His family, his mother and younger sister, were dependent on the society and their system. So, against his better judgement, Jinwoo bowed to the whims of the EMI and was taken in as SM-10.
In the facility, he underwent several tests to draw a profile for him since he was fundamentally different from his E-Rank file. Anyone could see at a glance. Jinwoo kept his cards hidden because the more capable he was, the greater the danger his loved ones would be in. He was doing everything for his family. Upon capture, he was promised that his family would receive financial support so long as he behaved himself.
A cowardly but effective threat and compromise that he agreed.
Still, he hated the people who worked in this accursed building. All those labourers who hid behind a mask and voice changer donned uniforms that displayed their station. Throughout his days, he observed a few groups of workers.
First was the type that he frequently came into contact with: Guard. As their station name, they guarded things, from equipment to rooms and even Hunter cells. They were the ones that handled conflict and violence, even the heavy lifting, if any. Those who were higher ranked were called Warden; however, he only saw them during his testing sessions when they were making his profile. They all wear black masks—Warden’s mask is black with a white scratch mark over the right eyehole—and black soldier uniforms.
Second was the type that constantly changes to the point he doesn’t even keep track of: Supervisor. Contrary to their high-standing title, they do the smallest and most insignificant tasks, like delivering supplies, checking Hunter cells, and being an owl so passing messages. They were low-ranking workers that most wouldn’t bat an eye to if gone. Perhaps that’s why they have a grey uniform and a grey mask. Their code went as high as the hundreds, going to the thousands.
Third was the type that he hated most: Investigator or Researcher. They were the ones who administered the tests and punishments to the Hunters, and they monitored them inside their cell. Under their glances, a Hunter is reduced to a mere lab rat. They were individuals connected to the EMI but needed to be more important to make a—any—difference in the building. However, they were respected in some sense because some did aim for the betterment of the Hunters staying in the building. They wear a white mask with a mocking grin and a white uniform, complete with a lab coat.
Last was the type that intrigued him the most: Personnel. Though their code suggests they have people in the hundreds, there was actually only a handful of them in the building. The highest number he saw was 12. They were the ones with the most authority and well-respected individuals among the other groups, their work and station varied from individual to individual. They were the ones that stayed in the building the longest, and a new Personnel would only join their ranks if they carried confidential information about the EMI.
One would notice there doesn’t seem to be a highest position or individual, but the Personnel were the ones who acted as the say of the facility. None had absolute power to keep each other in check, and in case a threat was targeted, if one fell, the other would continue in the other’s place. The smaller the number, the bigger their authority, it seems.
Personnel 001 was once his observer during the tests, when he could let loose. After all the observation and boredom, Jinwoo accidentally killed them and was quickly restrained. He paid close attention to what happened. Would another observe him? Would there be a new Personnel in their ranks? What would happen?
Turns out, you happened.
Personnel’s clothing is ever-changing. They have free reign over what they want to wear; needless to say, they have no uniform. They only have to wear a lab coat over their usual outfits, and that’s it. One could mistake them for Investigators, but the distinct code would be shown on their coat at the area over their heart. They have a white mask with reflective black glasses covering their eyeholes.
Yet when you came in, you were void of that mask that hides one’s expression and face. Still, your poker face was impressive. You appeared expressionless and reminded him of a doll. You neither introduced yourself nor showcased your station, different from Personnel 001, who was practically shouting at him that they were the ones in power in this facility. At first glance, he knew you were different from all the rest.
“You’re hiding your cards. SM-10.” Your words held knowledge and confidence, stating a fact rather than questioning him. Your arm hugged a black clipboard with a small stack of papers clipped while your other hand held a pen. If you weren’t wearing a lab coat, you’d appear like a strict teacher or lab researcher.
He couldn’t help but let a smile spread over his lips, “What makes you think that?”
“You’re holding back.” You turned to the Guards stationed within the cell to leave you alone. Yes, a Personnel has the authority to be alone with a Hunter, but if it were a Supervisor, they must be with at least two to three Guards. “You killed Personnel 001, why? Be honest.”
There was a shine in your eyes that he noticed. He couldn’t tell what it was, though he wanted to be coy. “You’re not the only ones observing. Why not make it mutual?”
That was his first meeting with you.
With his Shadows, he watched you and your daily activities. You were practically glued to your work; you came to work early but left late. You have a good relationship with the other coworkers, and most respect you, evident by the nodding heads you receive in the hallways. You also seem to care for Hunters in their cells, inspecting the cell quality and making things more bearable for Hunters like him.
Thanks to him, more and better changes happened after Personnel 001 was removed. By then, he figured out that whether it was a company setting or a guild setting, 001 was the guild master, and you were the vice master. Once 001 was gone, you had more authority and implemented changes, of course, with the agreement of your other Personnel co-workers.
In that case, that makes you a lot more interesting. You realized his strength and power, you wanted an improved and more sophisticated place for Hunter, different from how the facility was supposed to be, and you have been treating everyone human.
Jinwoo concluded that he wanted to stay and get closer to you. With you in charge, his family was practically safe as well. He’ll stay and protect your spot at the top. Yet why were you pushing him away? It infuriated him. Still, he was thankful for the other Personnels’ fear over setting an S-Rank loose in public that he could prove to you how wrong you were to fight for his release.
While showing his point, he reduced the Personnel to perhaps 6 remaining—that already includes you. From 12 to 6, he cut off 4, and then there was 001 as well, so one Personnel died through other means. Either way, he made his point.
You were the only Personnel he liked and could resolve his <Outrage>.
That already bound you to him, and none would harm you unless they wanted the country to fall to ruins.
The two of you share secrets, and slowly, he got you to open up, showing only him a side of you that you hide behind an invisible mask. You’re the only one for him, he’ll make it so that he’s the only one for you.
He realized that his emotions and feelings for you turned a bit twisted over time. That Guard 149 that stared at you a little too long? Their leg was somehow caught between the double doors, so they can’t work here anymore, right? That Investigator 083 that was standing so close to you that your arms were touching? An experiment backfired and their arms were amputated. Another Guard that is coded 761 was asking you out? They got into a car accident and died.
Jinwoo was careful. You never pointed fingers at him nor suspected it was him at all. You were very naive and innocent; he loves that about you. You care for your workers, yet at the same time, you also don’t. He got his answer when he finally communicated with the other S-Rank Hunters during the end of the Jeju Raid.
“Personnel 002? Oh, I’d say that person cares about Hunters more.”
“Haha, Personnel 002 has been very accommodating, unlike the other ones.”
“You can’t compare Personnel 002 with the others, it’s not a fair comparison.”
“I always enjoy my time with Personnel 002.”
“You’re lucky SM-10, I wish I could have Personnel 002 come to my place often.”
The other S-Rank Hunters only had good things to say about you. As expected, you were biased against Hunters and silently helped them more. Though, he was more enraptured to hear you giving him special care and attention. In private, his smile grew wide as he chuckled to himself. “Ah… You’ll be the death of me… Personnel 002.”

Someone asked abt the broken wrist comment on my 141!reader post so....here's the context lol (fair warning I dont write seriously and I dont care abt grammar. Severe injury, but everything's been discussed and consented to beforehand <3)
Nights like these are usually saved for special occasions. Either u or one of the other guys just cant seem to settle down no matter how much you work out or spar. Sure it takes the itch off for a moment, but then ur right back to restlessness.
Which ofc leads to ur favourite activity with the 141, a small hunting game. The woods work just fine, but gaz recently found an abandoned concrete building that may have been a mall at one point (dont question it), so you guys decide to play there. Color coded blankets and pillows mark out each of ur bases, and in the car ride over ghost is giving you a particularly hungry look.
You may or may not have been teasing him all week. Besides, you know that price is definitely doing after soap as payback for the sargeant edging him last time, and ur pretty sure price has got an alliance going with gaz.
Which means all of ghosts focus will be on you. A smirk tugging at your lips, you plan exactly how you'll have ghost once you capture him.
You've chosen a pretty nice place as ur base, in what was probably the good court. Open space, but dim and comfy enough for when u get ghost in there. then the hunt begins, and all of that 141 training kicks in.
Equipped with some handcuffs, a knife, and a flashlight the same as all the others, you sneak through the mall. Ghost tends to have the advantage in these situations, but you also know Ghost, which means u pay extra attention to the deep shadows and the small alcoves.
As expected, you spot the glint of a knife a few paces ahead, blood thrumming in ur veins as u approach. It takes work, and a brutal scuffle that has ur head ringing, but eventually u get ghost pinned in a headlock.
"Can't wait to edge you until youre crying, si." You murmer huskily, reaching to chain his wrists together. As ur hauling ghost back to ur base, you listen mildly to the echoed sobs coming from a bit aways. Seems like price found soap, then.
Ur so caught up in listening to soaps whines that u dont think about how little ghost is resisting until its too late. Between one breath and the next ur suddenly on the floor with ghosts hands wrapped around ur throat. You punch his kidney, roll away, but hes quick to get right back on you.
In fact, it seems that ghost is so eager that he plans to fuck you right there, not bothering to take u to his base. This, of course, means u have all the rights to fight back according to the rules. You play along, let him think ur giving up. Just when ghost is pressing into u, ur fist connects with his jaw. Ghost makes a startled sound of pain, followed by a sharp growl.
Ghost manhandles u, presses against those broken bones anytime u get a bit too feisty, fucks u until ur nearly passed out. Its brutal, it's painful, its heaven.
You try to use that distraction to reach ur knife, but he grabs ur arms and bodily slams you into the floor again. A sick *crack* echoes, and blinding paint flair up ur left arm, but his body is so hot and heavy above u that u dont care.
Uh anyways price chews simon tf out once yall regroup, ur wrist feeling much more painful than pleasurable. U look the doctors in the eyes and lie through ur teeth "yeah, took a nasty tumble while training. Tried to catch myself like a dumbass, real embarrassing." But its fine bc ghost gives u apology head afterwards <33

Cohl has been down a long time before Yui can get to him, but he refuses to give up. No matter what logic dictates. Features M resus, M rescuer, mechanical CPR, intubation, prolonged resus, hypothermia, drowning.
He couldn't even remember why they were diving in the middle of this godforsaken planet. Drowned treasure? Some ancient alien wreckage? All Yui knew as he piloted the little drone sub down the black depths was that Cohl hadn't responded on comms in a very long time. They'd exceeded the point he'd told Yui to find him if he didn't respond, and gone well past it in the twenty minutes it took him to even find the spot the Captain had dove to. The GPS and radar systems didn't play well with the planet's near constant electrical storms. When he did at last find the ship, he drove the submersible until the lights finally caught a flash of something reflective in the dark. His heart seized. Cohl was lying on his side on a platform outside the sub he'd taken down, unmoving. In an instant he snatched him up into the drone sub's hull and drove the thing as fast as he could back up to the waiting Hawk. Her bay opened up to recieve the little craft and he tore open the door as water sloshed out.
Yui heaved his Captain's sopping wet body onto a stretcher. His usually deep bronze skin was ashen, and he looked so utterly dead that it took everything inside the second in command to not burst into tears. The stretcher rose on its thrusters and he shoved it towards the Medbay. All the while he chattered to the ship's intelligence system, "How's he looking? How long has he been without oxygen?" "Body temperature is extremely low. Patient is in full cardiac and respiratory arrest, no BP or oxygen saturation. His suit marked the start of the cardiac event." Yui's stomach lurched. He asked quietly, "How long has He been down?" "37 minutes," replied the Hawk's comms. His legs went weak at the knees and he nearly fell. Adrenaline pushed him forward, careening into the medical unit. No wonder he looked like a corpse. He'd been one the entire time Yui was looking for him. He'd hoped, somehow, the oxygen reserves would last a bit longer than the projection. Cohl was lucky like that. Luck only got you so far with faulty equipment.
He slammed the levitating gurney into the dock and the medical system hummed to life. Another intelligence system with a masculine voice to contrast the Hawk's system piped up from the hub, "Warning, Code Blue. Warning, Code Blue." "I know, goddamnit," Yui sobbed, the strength going out of him for a brief moment. He almost crumpled over the side of the gurney as a sob bubbled up. He had to grip the railing and control his voice enough to say, "Start resuscitative protocol." "Patient's system has high levels of-" "Get him back!" he spat, jamming the controls until he got to the screen for the revival procedures. He blindly jabbed at any prompt, initiating CPR, defib on standby, airway, IV push with both epinephrine and adrenaline queued once the line was established.
He started cutting away the wetsuit clinging tightly to his Captain's clammy skin, so frozen and stiff he nearly lost it again to touch him. Every inch of exposed skin was cold and gray where it should have been warm and brown. The only color to his skin was the blue and purple edged around his lips. His stomach distended slightly from water inhalation. Yui continued to run the shears through the side seam of the fabric, under his armpit and down to where it ended at his ankle. He pulled away the shorn fabric from underneath his still body and discarded it, leaving him bare under the harsh lights of the Medbay, making him look all the paler as it caught on the rivulets of water collecting here and there in the dips and hollows. Yui planted his hands over the too firm and too round stomach and shoved down, expelling a gush of foaming white seawater from his slack lips and nose. He did this a few times, shuddering as Cohl gurgled and grunted with dead lungs. The Medbay's small mechanical arms and pincers moved about the body as it started an IV and raised the bed beneath his shoulders blades so his chest sat in a slight arch, forcing his head to tilt limply back. When Yui returned to the head of the gurney to clear away the foam from his face, he shivered to see his eyes had slid slightly open. "It's okay," he whispered as he dried off his lips and nose, though he wasn't sure if he was saying it to himself or his Captain.
"Beginning cardiopulmonary resuscitation," the system announced, sliding a thin band around Cohl's chest. In the middle of this sat a small rubber plunger, and in an instant the band was tightening in a vice and shoving the plunger against his sternum. His body rocked, the little device having a surprising amount of strength. It forced his shoulders to shrug inward, his arms rocking at his sides as his stomach, flattened by Yui's efforts, again bulged with displaced force. An additional arm lowered to pull his jaw open, easily sliding in a narrow breathing tube that split into two. A clip at the halfway point extended over his cheeks and mouth to hold it in place, and nearby a ventilator began breathing for him. The other tube in his throat suctioned out the remaining water and fluid in his throat, and for a moment the room was full of wet gurgling and squelching as the compression band beat against waterlogged lungs. Even when his airway was suctioned clear, Cohl still rasped out any air the ventilator fed him, the plastic tubing making each soft grunt whistle slightly.
Yui stood to the side of the mechanical assault. After punching in a few hypothermia procedures to be done alongside resuscitation, there wasn't much else he could do. He tried to help, tried to find something to do to not feel so useless, but the Medbay was an advanced system from a newer model of space cruiser than the Hawk, and most of a doctor's work was automated. It did a lot more than a failed med student could do. So he watched, his knuckles white around the bed railing, as Cohl was shifted and pounded into the back support like a ragdoll. The compression band made his head rock and he shifted to the side to slide a pillow underneath to hold him somewhat still. He couldn't stand watching the way his body bonelessly jerked and spasmed under the chest compressions. He glanced up at the monitors. A flatline, broken by the artificial pulse, raced across the nearest holo. His gaze slid to the cardiogram beside it. Cohl's heart was being squeezed, coiling and releasing in tandem with the machine, but the muscle didn't so much as twitch on its own. Yui pushed back dark hair from Cohl's lidded eyes for want of something to do with his hands.
One of the Medbay's arms implanted a small device over one of Cohl's kidneys, a port which connected to a suspended bag of saline. Heating coils hummed in the dispenser the IV liquid appeared from, and Yui could feel the table radiate a low warmth against Cohl's skin. He wanted to just crank the damn thing up, but knew he could easily kill him that way. As if he could get any deader. Cold, bloodless, without a pulse or respiration. He scrubbed his hand over his face to chase away the morbid thoughts. He dropped out of med school, but one thing had always stuck dealing with the cold: you're not dead until you're warm and dead. Medbay put his Captain's core temp at 75 degrees and climbing by minute percentiles. Not warm, and not dead. Not yet.
Machines pumped his heart, circulated his blood, filled his lungs, and some piece of hardware was in charge of his every vital organ. Yui told himself there was no way Cohl wasn't coming back. But the minutes crawled by. His body temp got to the upper 80s as the warm saline piped through his kidneys to heat up his bloodstream from the inside. His skin wasn't so wooden anymore, and although still noticeably cooler than usual, Yui could finally touch him without wincing. The band zipped in against his chest and pulsed through his upper body, his belly rising just a touch whenever the ventilator hissed oxygen into his lungs. There was no longer the wet sucking sound, which marked an improvement as well as his core body temp. At least his lungs were finally clear of water.
The minutes stretched on. He kept imagining Cohl in the dark, swallowed up by pitch black water, waiting for him. Drifting off. Laying dead on that platform for over half an hour. He checked the time marked on a nearby holo and flinched to see he'd been in cardiac arrest for an hour. His organs had been pumped and blood suffused for the latter half of that hour, and there hadn't been a sign of ventricular fibrillation, no improvement. Yui touched the cheek that finally had back some of its color. "Any change?" he asked as his voice cracked. "No change," announced the Medbay, "Patient is exhibiting a low level of brain activity, but no electrical activity in the heart. Temperature has risen another three points since last reading, and circulation to femoral and carotid seem to be unimpeded." Yui pressed down hard against Cohl's thigh and lower belly, squinting as he felt the pulse from the machine. "Yeah... Yeah blood is circulating. Push..." His chest felt too tight to speak and he pressed a bit harder into Cohl's femoral for the comfort of his pulse, even if it was one being forced on him. "Push another round of epi." It wasn't bound to be much help while his temp was still so low, but if he didn't do something, even just order something, he might break down completely. There had to be something he could do besides stand around like a jackass while machines jostled and pumped his body. Yui slid his hand under his Captain's neck, the other resting just above the thumper jamming down into his cracked sternum. He tried not to focus on the way his entire body seemed to pulse with each compression, or the way his throat flexed with each breath shoved into his lungs, unwilling to take up their own task.
"Surat," he whispered, invoking the name the illustrious Captain Cohl only ever trusted Yui with, "If you leave me alone in the middle of nowhere, I will never forgive you. If you-" His voice caught and he sagged over the rippling body, pressing his forehead to Cohl's cheek. He rubbed his hand gently over his clavicle as the thumper jabbed again and again at his heart. "Don't leave me," he pleaded in a quiet rasp, "Please... please, just come back." The warm saline had softened him again, raising his body temp enough he just seemed slightly cool to touch. Yui continued running his hand back and forth over the space just above the compression band as if in apology. It was, in a way. He hated doing all this to him. Every bit of it felt invasive and violent in a way he would never wish on the Captain he loved as dearly as anyone in his life. More than anyone, if he were honest with himself. Seeing his ribcage pulverized, his organs forced to function, the tubing and wires snaking from his body. One in his throat to make him breathe. One cycling saline through his kidneys. A catheter, also helping pump warm fluid through his system. He felt like he would break if he had to watch much longer, but knew he would never recover if he stopped the resuscitation efforts. He checked the temp gauge one more time. 90.9 glowed in red. A few more degrees and he would be in the normal range. Warm and dead. Yui shook his head, trying to clear it of that thought.
The code went on. The second in command had nothing to do, so he simply held Cohl's hand, trying to find comfort in the artificial pulse he could feel in his wrist. "Doctor Yui," the Medbay said after some time, though it was hard to tell just how long- he couldn't bring himself to look at the clock ticking down the seconds Cohl had been without a heartbeat. "Not a doctor," he sighed. "Noted. Commander Yui," the voice corrected. Suddenly the body went still. The automatic CPR stopped, and the heart monitor went from the rhythmic pip pip pip pip in time to the compressions to a long, flat whine. He sat bolt upright, jabbing at the controls. "What the hell are you doing?" he demanded. The controls had locked. He slapped at the RESUME button, but it wouldn't obey. "Patient has suffered a total lack of cardiac activity for two hours." Yui's blood went cold to hear that. The Medbay went on, "Protocol dictates the attending physician calls time of death and ceases all resuscitation efforts." "Don't you dare fucking stop," he snapped, trying to shift the compression band out of the way. It held firm. Yui cursed under his breath and awkwardly stuck his hands between Cohl's chest and the machine, shoving as well as he could. The plunger got in the way of actually pumping his heart, but he got as close as he could with the intrusion. He looked up pleading at the health display. "Please don't stop, just- he's got a chance, he was in subzero for long enough to preserve-" "Patient has had a temperature of 98 degrees for the past twenty minutes with no electrical activity." Bile rose in his throat. Indeed the display which marked his temperature was in the green, and still he had laid unmoving on the gurney, without even fibrillation to suggest his heart might remember how to beat. "Just a little while longer," Yui gasped out, shoving against Cohl's heart. "He's gonna come back, alright? He has to." He clutched the sides of his face and shook him slightly. "Surat, just fucking breathe, please! One breath, come on!" The ventilator stuck out from between his teeth, but this too had been stopped. Yui pulled his mouth open enough he could get somewhat around it, pressing their lips together as he pushed a breath into his throat. "Protocol dictates-" "Override then!" he shouted, returning to the display, "Override security code, fuck... s-security code 226784, Yui H-" "Insufficient clearance."
The stupid thing was designed for this exact situation. A doctor who didn't want to admit defeat. Who would keep a patient's heart beating and their lungs inflating until the ship lost power, because he was too stubborn and stupid to know when enough was enough. A higher ranking crew member would be the one to have to make the call on whether it could continue. But on the Hawk, it was just the two of them. It was always just the two of them. And the only person who could tell the Medbay to keep it up was the one laying pulseless on the table. Yui shoved a hand through his hair, his breath quickening. "Goddamnit, override security code-" Cohl only ever used two or three passwords repeated through computer systems on the ship. It had always been a huge security risk, but he was glad of it now. He tried, "Code 011289!" Cohl's birthday. "Invalid." He tried his mother's birthday. "Invalid." He tried the anniversary date of the day Cohl had adopted his dog back on Earth. "Invalid." A sob stole Yui's voice for a moment as he collapsed against the bed. His mind raced, heart thudding as he tried to think of what else his Captain might use, his blood rushing almost too loud to think. He again cupped his face, searching his slack features like he might have some answer to give him. Then, as a last resort, he quietly murmured, "Override security code... code 122492." "Override accepted. Would you like me to continue resuscitation?" He shuddered. The big idiot had used his birthday for the Medbay's systems. "Yes," Yui sobbed, pressing their foreheads together. "How long should efforts continue if there's no change?" "As long as it takes. Keep going."
Again his body spasmed under the compression band, again air hissed into the ventilation tube. Yui's gaze flickered over the body in front of him. Naked in a nest of wires and tubes. Bruised black and blue where the mechanical thumper pistoned into his chest. He pulled a sheet over his lower half to preserve some kind of dignity, but there was no dignity in assaulting a corpse like this. But he couldn't give up. Even if, by now, it felt less like giving up on him and more like letting him rest after a long, drawn out fight for his life. Tears ran warm down his cheeks and he shuddered in a breath. There was nothing he could do but wait for the inevitable warning on the ship's power supply, when he'd be forced to stop or risk shutting down the whole place. Until then...
Yui crawled onto the gurney beside his Captain as the compression band mechanically seesawed his body, making his stomach bulge when it hit. He laid down at his side, laying his head against his shoulder, which jerked underneath him with each thrust. Cohl's arm hung limp at his side, and he took his wrist and folded the limb over himself like a blanket. Like the embrace he'd only ever stolen during those nights of drinking and revelry, when Cohl would pull him into his body and he'd feel his warmth and smell the dust of some adventure on him. He smelled like salt water now, and antiseptic. Still, he curled in against him, the ripples and pulses of the machines serving to lull him into a trance like state. Yui slid an arm around his stomach as the thumper forced it to bob up and down, closing his eyes in the warmth of the embrace, and pretending, at least for a little while, that everything was fine.
He stayed like that for an eternity, waiting for the system alarm that warned him the code was taking up too much energy. Just listening to the steady blip of the monitor and feeling the Medbay's work jostle his limp body around. Then, nearing the third and final hour of Cohl's cardiac arrest, the Medbay said, "Commander Yui, please do not touch the patient." He jumped slightly and sat up, still holding Cohl's arm around his shoulders. "W-What is it?" "I've detected ventricular fibrillation. Stand clear while I charge the defibrillation unit." He felt weak with relief, almost too weak to climb down off the bed. Part of him didn't want to either, he wanted to lay there with him forever, suspended in a moment where there might still be some glimmer of hope. But this was better, this was real hope, and he reluctantly laid Cohl's arm back against the bed, drawing away. Two sets of thin robotic limbs placed pads against his upper chest and flush against his ribs on the opposite side. "Charging to 200," announced the Medbay as the machine whined with electricity, "Stand clear." Cohl jerked up against the plunger pinning him down, his limbs contracting inward. Yui glanced at the monitor showing an inside view of his chest, able to watch as the muscle, fluttering and thrown into chaos, seized up with the shock. When the contraction passed, it again vibrated without rhythm or meaning. "Shock advised. Charging to 260. Stand clear." Cohl bucked again, fingers jerking into a fist for a moment before his body slid back into stillness. No change. The Medbay shocked him again, then again, and again, but his heart wouldn't obey. The display showed it jerk, tense up, then continue quivering. Or it would push out a few quick beats and return to its useless shaking. On the fifth shock, when Yui was nearly broken from his catatonic mania and about to tell the Medbay to at last stop, Cohl's body jumped particularly hard. Then his heart started beating.
The sudden stillness felt so wrong after hours of rhythmic spasming and jerking that for a moment, Yui thought something else had gone wrong. But something had gone right instead. Cohl was alive. The compression band slid back into the ports it had come from, leaving his battered chest at last. His sternum was sunken slightly where it had been beating at his heart for at least two and a half hours, and his dark skin was mottled with an ugly bruise that stretched over most of his chest, but Yui could see his pulse leaping at the apex and pounding in his throat. As if not trusting the most advanced med system on board, he fumbled for an old fashioned analog stethoscope amidst the supplies, pressing the bell to a few points on his chest. He heard the ventilator hiss, the air filling his lungs in a whoosh, and beneath that, at last, was his heartbeat. It sounded like a lame animal, still shaky on its feet as it occasionally stammered in half-beats. Lub-dub, lub-lublub- lub-dub, lub-d-dub. But it was there. He was there.
It would be a long time before he woke up, miraculously with minimal brain damage. It still took months for him to fully recover. Yui still carried the shame of the event with him for awhile after Cohl was well enough to captain the ship again. Any other patient subjected to everything he'd put him through might have been angry he didn't just call time. But the shame warred with the joy he felt to see him alive, and most of the time that won out. He confessed one night the full extent- told Cohl of curling up next to his body in his grief and the guilt he felt for what he'd done. But Cohl had just wrapped him up in his arms and kissed the top of his head. "I'm glad you didn't give up," he murmured against his hair. Yui closed his eyes, pressing his face against his chest hard to take comfort in the beat of his heart, and whispered, "Me too."

Sam O’Brien (Warfare) Masterlist
Welcome to the Sam zone— home of a golden retriever, a wife who loves kissing her husband, bad dad jokes, and dangerously high levels of “down bad” on Sam’s part. This is where all my Sam O’Brien fics live, tagged and ready for you to weep (maybe), swoon (hopefully), and possibly scream into a pillow over how disgustingly in love he is with his wife (you).

.☽༊˚ january writing; family tree
deacon kay x reader
feat. 50-squad!reader, established relationship, fluff
Tumblr media
Most people would understandably take a seven-thirty wakeup call with more than a pinch of salt, especially if they’d only gotten off work at eleven the night before - all bar Deacon, whose bright smile lights his whole face up as he waits for you to file away all your gear so he can take you home.
Your night shift hadn’t been without excitement, but treated you well enough all the same. An attempted robbery of a convenience store and a marked unit spooking a counterfeiter with a warrant into a chase had left you tired but whole, and more than ready to fall into Deacon’s lure of breakfast at your favourite diner and a slow morning at home to catch up on your missing sleep.
In quiet cohesion, you shed your equipment and Deacon sorts it neatly away where it belongs. Tenderness is imbued in everything he does, from how he loosens the straps of your vest over your shoulders to how he presses a kiss to the shell of your ear as he helps take your earpiece out. As accustomed as you are to his love after so long spent together, it never stops softening you even in the coldest of moments.
Down to your uniform-issue jumpsuit, you press gently past him to go wash your face. You hear the creak of your locker door opening - the code having long since been Deacon’s own birthdate - and the soft swishes of fabric unfurling as he pulls out a set of clothes for you to change into. The cool water wakes you up almost immediately, and it’s only when you twist the tap off and go to dry your face does it occur to you that it sounds like he’s stilled. A peek around the corner at your ajar locker door offers a slim view, and of it you see the strong line of Deacon’s back and his elbows settled against his sides, like he’s holding whatever he’s looking down at.
“What?” Confusion rises in you, worsening the closer that Deacon examines the offending article. Errant water droplets splatter against the porcelain of the sink as you sluice your hands, and hurriedly plead your case. “God, please don’t tell me Rocker actually printed the photo of me napping in the Gurkha. It was just for ten minutes on an overtime shift, swear.”
He raises a brow, shooting you a humoured look that makes warmth pool in the pit of your stomach. Your footsteps echo quietly as you pad back over to him, and rest a hand on his shoulder as you peer down at what he’s so interested in.
It’s a drawing of Sam’s from kindergarten, a thin strip of tape still attached to the top where you keep it stuck to the inside of your locker door. Against a blocky, crayon-drawn iteration of the house are seven people - Annie, blonde hair flowing and work suit recreated as being as he could manage, Sam and his siblings lined up in varying stated of accuracy, Deacon in all his silver glory - and then, stick-hands joined with Deacon’s, is you.
“You kept it.” He thumbs over the lightly worn paper like it’s something holy, looking down at you in much the same way. It’d been two months since Sam had toddled out of school touting the picture, proudly waving it for you to see as you waited for him at pick-up.
“ ‘Course I did.” A little knot of emotion catches in your throat as the memory reemerges, but you swallow it down. Hands finding their way to the curves of his arms, you squeeze him gently as you flash a sweet luck invasive smile. “It’s not everyday an artist so accurately captures my lovely smile and the way my forehead wraps all the way around.”
Deacon makes a noncommittal sound under his breath as he sticks the drawing back onto the metal of the door. Taking you into his arms even as you grumble in mock protest, his cheeks grow rosy under the bleak lighting above.
“I love you.” His hands settle warmly on your back, finding purchase in the divot of your lower back. The love in his eyes is as pure as you’ve ever seen. “So, so much.”
Warmth rushes to your cheeks, but you hold his gaze all the same. “Even with my two different sized eyes and an arm coming out of my neck, for some reason?”
He laughs, and it’s still your favourite sound to date. “Especially that.”

1: Insomnia | 2: Lucid | 3: Reverie | 4: Nightmare
Tumblr media
Hydra’s brainwashing mechanism operates like a code embedded in a computer system. Implanted deep within the nervous system of each asset, it’s triggered by a command—a specific sequence of words, like a complex password. It only takes effect once the entire sequence is spoken. However, each word acts as a layer, tightening control over the asset with every syllable. It gradually overrides the brain's natural functions, until complete control is achieved over both mind and body.
You knew this. You also knew that fighting it only made the effect stronger, accelerating the process. Resisting was like trying to stop venom already spreading through your veins—inevitable and deadly. So, your only option was to buy time.
Time against whatever you were about to become.
“Мечта.”
Four triggered the first word unexpectedly, and you saw it in his eyes—he was going to finish the sequence fast.
But you were faster.
Your fist slammed against the wall, hitting the hidden button you’d been shielding.
"NO!!" Steve’s roar echoed through the room as a thick, crystallized wall dropped from the ceiling, sealing him and Maria on the other side. He pounded against it with all his strength, his fists useless against the reinforced barrier. "Open this!" he was desperate: “Open this fucking thing!!”
But it was useless. This was The Crib, the place where you, Tony, and Bruce pushed the limits of crazy ideas. Naturally, it was equipped with a “Hulk Containment” feature, just in case one of those experiments went too far.
“Jarvis, override!” Maria commanded immediately, pressing her comms. “Stark, 116, 116, in The Crib! Now!” She stepped back and shot the wall, only to leave soft marks but unable to break it at all.
Four smiled, pleased.
“Шкаф”
A sharp pain crossed your mind, like a thunderstruck that cut you as a knife. For some seconds you think you lost control. You stumbled forward, losing completely balance. And stretched an arm for a glass somewhere over a desk nearby knocking everything off. The glass went flying and smashed to pieces on the floor. You tried to reach it blindly, you were loosing your sight, with trembles and the last thread of senses you handled to grab it, so you squeezed with all your remaining strength.
The glass pierced your skin and palm, leaving a long trail of blood down your arm. You could hear Steve's frantic pounding echoing through the walls, his voice a raw, anguished, shouting your name, but pain is dominating your senses.
But this is good, pain is good. Pain meant you were still here.
"Тетрадь." Four stepped back. He was enjoying this. All this show was worth it, even though he failed and had to face the rage of all the Avengers together later.
Nononono. You pressed harder your fists, the glass embedded left out more blood. Feel the pain, feel the senses. You're good. You're good. You are not this. You are not Hydra. You did not survive up to this day to be used again as something disposable.
On your knees, you pressed your other hand into the shattered glass, hoping the sharpness would anchor you.
"Open this!" Steve was almost unrecognizable in his panic when Tony and Bruce entered the room. “Get this thing open!” His voice was a mix of rage and fear.
“Shit…” Bruce rushed to the nearest console, typing furiously. “The code’s simple but old—it’s uncrackable. We’ve got 15 seconds before it overrides.”
“What?!” Steve was outraged: “You’ve got to open it! Open it! Tony! Get my girl the fuck out of there!”
“Oh shit, this is good.” Four’s laughter filled the room. This was a feast for him.
“Радуга.“
“No…” You whispered, holding onto the pain as if it were your lifeline.
You are not this.
You are good.
You are…
You are an oak tree, hidden deep in the forest. Sitting around the fire with your siblings, their faces bathed in a golden glow. The words that hung in the peaceful silence on that night.
Starlight on the Siberian peaks, a full moon overhead. Natasha’s hand pulling you out, the scent of her leather jacket against your frozen skin.
The first time you saw the ocean. The sensation of sand beneath your feet, waves tickling your toes.
Christmas lights twinkling on a giant tree, champagne in the compound and Dr. Lin’s drunk laugh.
The first time Tony led you into the abandoned lab, that door opened to what you thought was perfection. The bad jokes you shared with him and Bruce here in The Crib. The coffee you made for Sam and Nat at your lab.
And Steve. The first time he smiled at you. The way he laughed at your childish bedtime story. The first time he kissed you. His lashes brushing your cheek. The sound of his heartbeat at night, the strength in his embrace.
No. You were not this monster they were trying to turn you into.
You were the life your brothers and sisters never got to have.
The sunlight, the breeze, the snowflakes, the spring rain in your garden, and the summer air in you hair they never felt. You were living the memories they couldn’t.
You weren’t this. A puppet someone could easily manipulate over some ridiculous words.
“No…” You felt your tears crashing in your hand full of shattered glasses. “I’m not…that.”
You are not Hydra’s Frankestein.
You are the faith you still hold for humanity—the goodness, the kindness you’ve seen. You are the broken fairy tales One and Two told you and your siblings to soothe your sorrowful nights
You are this precious jewel Steve treasured every time he hugged you, kissed you, or looked at you.
“Конфета,” Four sneered, delivering the next word.
But you fought back.
“No.”
Your eyes locked with his, burning with defiance.
“You wanna play, huh?” Frazer chuckled.
“стена.”
Another shock hit your mind, but this time it didn’t knock you down. You stumbled but stayed standing, hearing Tony override the code. The wall would be down soon. You had to act before anyone else got hurt because of you.
Four stared in disbelief. He couldn’t understand how you were even resisting.
So he rushed into it.
“Облако.”
You felt your body betray you, limbs refusing to respond.
C’mon, focus. Stay focused. Everyone you love is on the other side of the wall, you couldn’t let them get hurt.
You lunged at the desk and ripped open the top drawer. God, what's all that noise? Stop the drums, stop that noise… please… You couldn't stay awake much longer. Damn it, where is it…Your hands desperately looking for something.
‘Зеленый.'
Four said again. And that command felt like a hammer that struck your head. You collapsed to your knees, your bloody hands finally finding it. An injection. Fuck, your vision was blurred; you couldn’t see the dosage.
'лес '.
Nononono you couldn't wait, it was almost at the last word. So you didn't measure it, and you plunged the injection into your neck. God…! That hurts. You pressed all the content in you.
Ok now…now we should be good. You were panting and sweating as you dropped the injection and came over your knees. Shit that was closed. Too closed.
Four looked stunned. He didn’t know what you’d done, but before he could react, Steve burst through the room like a storm and crashed his face with all the strength Captain America would have in a battlefield. You even heard the crack sound of their bones crashing.
“Stop!” Maria shouted before Steve in all his fury, outraged and unstoppable, would kill the guy with his bare hands. “We need to track that retina layer! Stop!” She lunged and seized his arm, preventing him from striking further.
Your mind recovered some senses as the words stopped, now all you felt was pain, but you managed to let out what you’d been holding in all day.
“Steve…”
That worked as a Hydra’s password to him, Steve felt he was woken up from a dream, and before you knew it, you were pressed into his embrace, his arms holding you tight yet gentle and with care, as if you were fragile as the most precious thing in the world.
“I’m sorry…” You whispered, trembling as you tried to hold onto him. “I wanted to tell you…I…” God, his skin is so warm. You missed that the entire day.
Steve froze. The ache on his chest made him paralyzed, he could barely speak. You were worried about him? Now?
“It's ok…” He was feeling a lump form in his throat, his hand weaving through your hair, pressing you against him and kissing you on the forehead.
“I’m here baby, it’s ok, you are ok…” He barely could put himself together. You were a mess—bloody, battered— and he was scared, so scared he can’t remember when was the last time he was falling apart like this.
You were panting as your consciousness was losing it, giving in finally to the injection you put into yourself to paralyze you and prevent you from doing something you can’t manage.
“Did you…get hurt?” You raised a hand and touched his face. You were fading, the injection taking its toll, dragging you into unconsciousness.
“Shit baby…” Steve pressed his forehead against yours, barely holding himself together. He couldn’t believe what you were saying: “That’s the last of my concerns.”
But you were already slipping away.
Steve’s heart froze in his chest when he looked down and saw your eyes closed, your body limp against his. A cold wave of terror surged through him, threatening to pull him under. His breath caught in his throat, and for a moment, it was like the world had stopped spinning. He couldn't hear anything, not Tony, not Bruce, not even his own heartbeat.
His entire focus narrowed to the sight of you—still, lifeless—like all the color had drained from you. His hand hovered over your face, trembling, afraid to touch you, afraid you wouldn’t respond.
“Hey…” His voice cracked, hoarse and broken. “Babe...?”
Panic gripped him in a way he hadn’t felt since the war, since waking up alone in a world that had moved on without him. But this was worse, infinitely worse. His fingers found the pulse at your neck, but his heart refused to calm. What if it was fading? What if you were slipping away, and he couldn’t do anything to stop it?
"What...What's happening?" He could hear his own voice, vulnerable as ever.
“What the f…?” Tony knelt next to Steve, grabbing the discarded syringe.
Relief washed over him as he read the label.
“Oh, for god’s fucking sake…!” He passed it to Bruce, sinking to the floor. “It’s just a tranquilizer. She’s asleep. Damn, that was close.” He rubbed his face, still shaken. “That was the scariest thing ever. Shit.”
"Holy shit." Bruce and Maria leaned back too, releasing the breath they had been holding.
"Okay..." Commander Hill, always the first to pull herself together, stood up and exhaled in relief as she began to make sense of the chaos.
"Let’s get her to the med bay. Now." Her voice was determined, but her movements were gentle. She patted a still-in-shock Steve softly on the shoulder. "Come on, Cap. We need to get her out of here. And there’s work to do." She tilted her head toward the unconscious Four on the floor.
Steve didn’t respond. He was panting, his body covered in cold sweat as Tony’s words sank in. It was...tranquilizer? You were ok? He was still holding you close, feeling the warmth of your skin, the quiet and steady rhythm of your breathing. And he could hear your heartbeat.
He never really believed in God, but in that moment, he wanted to thank every deity in this world or beyond that you were still in his arms. Alive. Safe.
And, God…he swore right then, he would never let this happen again. Whatever the hell had gone down tonight, he was so fucking sure that was never, EVER, happening again.
"Steve." Tony placed a hand on his shoulder as Sam and Natasha entered the room with the elite team to deal with Four.
"Come on, buddy, let’s go. Look at her hands—she’s a mess. We’ve got to get her wounds treated." And make sure that brainwash thing is gone, Tony thought, but he didn’t say it aloud. With Steve still so on edge, he didn't want to end like Four on the floor.
Steve closed his eyes for a long moment, then tightened his grip around you, pulling you closer. He lifted you carefully, pressing a kiss to your forehead and inhaling your scent. You smelled like blood, and he felt a deep, crushing guilt.
"Alright, let’s go." He finally spoke, his voice steady, though full of pain. "But I’m staying close." There was no way he was letting you out of his sight.
Tumblr media
You inhaled sharply, and your eyes flew open, heart pounding in your chest.
The room was bright, sterile, and the soft hum of Stark technology filled the air.
Disoriented, you stared at the blinking machines and glowing monitors around you. Tubes and wires were connected to your arms, and a soft beep from the heart monitor echoed in the quiet space.
Flashbacks hit you hard. Four. The keywords. You injected yourself to prevent anyone from getting hurt. And you succeeded, didn’t you? Did anyone get hurt?
You remembered Steve being the first to approach you. Four was beaten down, wasn’t he? Is Steve okay? Is everyone ok?
“What the hell is this…” You muttered, frowning as you glanced at the data on the monitors. Then quickly decided you didn’t need any of it. You reached for the tubes, yanking them out one by one. The pain was sharp, but adrenaline dulled it. You didn’t care. You hated anything related to medical clinics, anything that reminded you of being in a lab, a subject of experimentation.
You pulled off the monitors, ignoring the rapid beeping as alarms blared. Swinging your legs over the edge of the bed, you stood shakily, your legs weak, your vision blurry.
“Damn…” you muttered, walking in a dizzy haze, trying to balance. You must have injected quite a dose of tranquilizer. How long had you been out? There were no windows, and the room’s enclosed space only heightened your panic.
Barefoot, you rushed out and collided with Steve, who was rushing in, pale and shaken.
“What...What are you doing?!” His voice was agitated. Pulling out the tubes must’ve triggered an alarm. He immediately scooped you off the cold floor. “Are you okay?” He set you back on the bed and inspected your bruised and bleeding arms. “You’re freezing. You ok? You’re hurt? Do you want me to call the docs?”
“I…I…” You didn’t know what to say, so you just stretched out your arms and pulled him close, holding yourself to him and hugged him as tight as your weak strength allowed.
“I missed you.”
You said in a low voice, closing your eyes, inhaling his skin, arms around his neck and feeling him. “I woke up and I wanted to see you…I was scared…”
You felt a strange wave of vulnerability, the kind that made you feel like a child seeking comfort.
Steve stood rigid, his heart and soul settling back into place now that you were awake and in his arms. But he was also…furious. You had no idea how angry he had been, how the team had barely managed to contain his rage. He wanted to stay quiet, but he couldn’t stop himself.
“You were scared…now? You didn’t seem scared when you used yourself as bait and stood up against this guy alone…!”
He wanted to shout it out, his voice was thick with frustration, fear, and anger, but he stopped.
His arms remained gentle, holding you tightly.
“What were you thinking? I was…You scared the shit out of me…I thought…”
He cut himself off, tightening his grip around you, pulling you impossibly closer. His lips brushed against your hair as if he couldn’t bear to let go. He clenched his arms, flashing back to that moment when he was breathless, but now you were there.
Thank God you are here.
Your arms around his neck, body against his, his arms holding onto your waist, He could smell your hair, could feel your warmth against his lips, and he didn’t want this moment to end.
“I’m sorry… I wanted to tell you… And I knew you were looking for me, but I couldn’t look back. It would’ve given me away.” You looked up, cupping his face with a soft smile.
Steve exhaled, his heart twisting in his chest. He clenched his jaw, his voice thick with emotion, still fighting to keep composure, he pulled you impossibly closer, holding you against him, his voice a shaky whisper.
“Just promise me…promise me you won’t do such reckless…dangerous things again…ever.”
Your fingers softly moved around his face, and gently kissed him, you pressed your forehead to his, calming and soothing his pain.
You could hear his breath becoming softer and lower with your touch, you stood still, hugging and feeling him as you were comforted too.
“Were you hurt?” you asked suddenly, remembering Steve knocking out Agent Frazer, unsure of how the events had played out. Breaking the hug, you looked him over. “You’re hurt!” You exclaimed, noticing his swollen, bleeding knuckles. “Steve, let me see. Is this bad? Are you in pain?”
“This?” He opened and closed his fist, showing you it was fine. “This is nothing… it hurt less than hitting a punching bag.”
“The Hulk container IS NOT a punching bag.” You carefully caressed his injured hand, your eyes welling up with tears. “Can you get it checked later? Does it hurt?”
Steve didn’t know what to say. He tightened his other arm around your waist, swallowing the lump in his throat.
You hadn’t cried when you found out about your brother being alive, or later when you learned he was a fake. You hadn’t cried when you clenched your fist around glass to fight back the brainwashing. You hadn’t even hesitated when you injected yourself to save everyone.
But now, you were tearing up because of his bruised knuckles.
“I’m ok.” He said after a long pause. And it felt so clumsy. But he didn’t know how to describe the feeling he had right now. He couldn’t find the words. He wished there were some way to predict the future, to shield you from every upcoming danger, every pain, for the rest of your life.
“When can we go home?” You rubbed your eyes, you were exhausted, but you didn’t want to sleep here.
Steve smiled at your mention of “home”, and thought about your secluded, private, little lab, full of sunshine and plants. Your home. Our home. That’s such a wonderful word. His voice softened as he helped you lie down.
“Soon, baby. Just rest, ok? You’ve been through too much today.” He adjusted the pillows and pulled a blanket over you. “Are you okay? Are you cold?”
“Yes.” You frowned and looked up at him. “I’m cold. I want you to hold me.” You moved aside, making room in the bed. “Now.”
You had never used that childish tone before, and it made Steve chuckle. Shaking his head, he climbed into bed beside you, holding you in his arms, your head resting on his chest. “Spoiled little brat.” He teased with a smile, brushing a strand of hair from your face. “My spoiled little brat.”
You inhaled deeply, resting your head against his chest, your favorite spot in the world where you could hear his heartbeat—the sound that made everything in the universe make sense. And when he thought you were asleep, you spoke, your voice clear.
“Do you want to hear a bedtime story?”
Your voice carried a sense of determination, and Steve sighed. He had it coming. Just not this soon.
But then, he thought back to everything, and realized you were one of the bravest people he'd ever met. It didn’t surprise him that you were ready to talk.
“Only if you're sure.”
“Yes.” You smiled, propping yourself up on your elbow to meet his eyes. “I should’ve told you from the beginning.” You exhaled deeply. “I was just scared of becoming a disappointment.”
“What?” He turned to you, incredulous. “No… don’t say that. You could never be a disappointment. Ever.” His gaze was steady and unyielding. “Don’t ever think that.”
You kissed his fingers, pausing for a long moment before beginning.
“Once upon a time…” You stopped as he chuckled. “I’m kidding. Bedtime stories are supposed to be soothing. This one would give nightmares.”
Steve held your hand as he looked at you: “I’m here. And…no nightmare could ever keep me away from you.”
You smiled but stayed quiet for a long while, gathering your thoughts. Steve remained silent, wrapping his arm around you, gently twisting a strand of your hair between his fingers, waiting patiently for you to begin.
“We were twelve, as you might have guessed. I'm the last one.” Your voice was distant, soft, like whispering a dream from another lifetime.
“It started with One and Two. They were perfect, like gods—healthy, strong, fast, fierce. They had rapid healing, heightened reflexes, tolerance to extreme temperatures, and incredible immune systems. Like you. Or Apollo and Artemis. And of course, they weren’t enough. Hydra wanted more. They’ve always wanted more.”
You made a pause, those memories felt like thousands years ago.
“By the time they made Three, Four, and Five… One and Two had begun to… fail. They developed flaws.”
The fingers twirling your hair froze. Steve held his breath. He had thought about this ever since Natasha handed him your file, asking, ‘What do you think happened to the other eleven?’ He hadn’t answered, a terrible feeling gnawing at him that the others’ fates might have been far worse than yours.
“What kind of flaws?” You could hear his heartbeat quicken.
“Just…they weren’t flaws for me. But they stopped being perfect. Their immune system presented infections, something never happened before. Their recovery speed was not as fast as before, or they weren’t healing 100%. Or…speed decrease, lack of strength. And of course their minds started to … be uncontrollable or not manageable at all.” You sighed.
Steve’s hand tightened slightly, a ripple of horror passing through him.
“Three, Four and Five presented earlier symptoms. Three was fast, but he lacked strength. Four was strong, but he wasn’t able to heal as fast as the rest. And Five was super smart but she was…weak. Well, not weak, normal.”
You paused, and smiled: “It was true, you know? The story Agent Frazer told. I was a great tree climber, and we used to have fun in that oak tree. But…”
You felt Steve’s hand holding you tighter, and you hugged him back, your tone turned low.
“Four did that tricky thing of putting a rock on a pile of leaves. Seven hit against it so hard, and that’s right… he won’t stop bleeding, we headed to the base, and of course, got grounded as hell.” You inhaled: “Four died because of that. They sacrificed him, they were planning on doing so anyway, but it was used as a warning. They’ve put everything that ‘worked’ in Four, to ‘fix’ Seven.”
“What?”
Steve felt every fiber on his body tensed, his chest growing tighter and tighter as you spoke, horrified at the realization of what Hydra had done.
“And of course, Seven didn’t last long either. He died about a year later. I think… he just couldn’t live with what was left of Four.”
Your smile was thin, sad. “I saw the autopsy report. There was nothing physically wrong with him. He just…shriveled, or…died from a broken heart.”
You inhaled deeply, bracing yourself for the next revelation.
“And today…I didn’t stop Frazer right away because… I was curious.”
You buried your face in Steve’s chest, as you were ashamed of this little wish.
“I wanted to know…I’ve always wanted to know, how my brothers and sisters would be like…if they’d grown up. I knew Frazer was a fraud, but I couldn’t help it. He was identical to Four…and Four…he was just a kid, a bright, playful, funny kid.”
Steve clenched his arms and held you tightly as you were shivering uncontrollably. He was shaking too, his teeth chattering, it was beyond anger, he felt his heart filled with sadness and despair.
He tried to speak several times before his voice finally steadied.
“You were a kid too.”
“I was not a kid.” You responded, surprisingly quiet. “I was the kid. I was…the final version.” You looked at his horrified eyes as his expression shifted.
You lowered your eyes at his sight, and calmly continued the story: “One and Two passed away when I was young, very young, I still don’t know what happened to them. But Hydra…just continued experimenting, Seven was good, but then he … turned off when Four died, Eight died as a toddler I think. So they just kept going, taking things out of this one, adding to the other… until they got it to the right perfect model… or at least… to one that wasn’t deteriorating with time and maintained a regularity.”
You curved your lip as you looked at Steve.
“The last number of the great Hydra’s Dynasty. Frankenstein number Twelve.”
“I’m alive. Because my brothers and sisters died.”
Steve was in horror.
This pang in his chest, he didn’t know if he wanted to destroy something, vomit, or just…take the time stone, go back in time, and burn all Hydra’s bases he’d known down to the ground until they were ashes and dust. Until the very last of them were fucking burning and screaming in hell.
“They died so Hydra could have a perfect soldier?” His voice was barely more than a growl. “They were…torn apart so you could exist?”
“Well, it’s not like I have Eight’s eyes or Ten’s arms.” You looked at your hands. “It’s like…their DNA, their…existence, were transmitted to me. A prototype that succeeded, but the original versions…just didn’t make it.”
Your voice was like a faint ghost as you observed yourself.
“You know my powers, right? I can see…the components or layers of solid things when I want to. Not all the time, but it gives me a great advantage with stuff like machinery, weapons, gear, construction…I think I have Five’s intelligence too, and some of Three’s speed, or even a shadow of One and Two’s strength. And Eleven’s sense of humor—I’ve always thought we were twins…but this power…It’s only in me.”
“And it used to work on humans too, if I wanted it to.” You sighed in sadness and sorrow. “There’s something I haven’t told anyone, no one knows…not even Tony.”
You intertwined your fingers with Steve’s, confessing in a calm voice.
“There’s something…in every living being, within their layers and layers of components, something impossible to explain—something divine, and impossible to replicate. And that’s like a golden thread.”
You traced a line in the air as Steve held his breath.
“I see it as a line of golden glitter. Some shine more than others, like yours…yours is like a strong ray of sunshine, like all the stars in the sky unified within your being. That’s life. Or…the divine power of life.”
Steve held his breath in awe. There was something incredibly beautiful within the horrors you had to endure. He suddenly remembered all the plants in your lab and home, the leaves cascading from the ceiling, growing strong everywhere. He could picture it—the stunning view you’d have, all those waterfalls and cascades of golden strings, of living life.
He hesitated before speaking, his voice as gentle as he could make it: “And…you don’t use your powers on humans anymore?”
“No. I shut it down. Or it shut itself down…” You shook your head. “Hydra used my powers to make their experiments more…efficient. But my brain, or my powers, were too important. They didn’t dare experiment on me with something that might go wrong. I only had one brain procedure—the one that implanted all these keywords.”
You pressed your lips together and closed your eyes.
“They didn’t brainwash me…So I remember everything. I was forced to participate in the experiments on my siblings. I didn’t know…I thought I was helping them heal, but they lied. I was part of it…!”
Your breath quickened as the memories flooded back.
“I could see them. I could see how their life threads faded, losing their shine little by little. Strong, sparkling golden glitter slowly fading, disappearing. Like a spark extinguished…absorbed by nothingness. And after my last sister, Nine, passed away, I just…this power of seeing layers on human, it went off. I can only see threads in living beings now, nothing else.”
A terrible silence fell across the room. Only the soft beeps of the medical machines echoed through.
Steve sat up straight. He didn’t want to let go of your hand, your touch, but his body just reacted. It was too much, even for him. Your words were calm and serene, but the horrors and the cruelty behind them cut through him like a knife, piercing his soul and breaking him down.
He didn’t know what to say because…what was left to say? There was no comfort, no kindness, nothing that could soothe what you’d been through.
The fact that you remembered everything, that you saw brainwashing as a gift because you had witnessed every death, with genuine hope and devotion that you were helping, only to find out the goal was for you to be the perfect prototype. The guilt you must’ve felt, the despair of watching those threads try to hold on to life before they faded…
The image of you standing alone in this world after your last sibling was gone, facing all that darkness by yourself…he couldn’t imagine it.
“And then, everything is history.” Your eyes were fixed on the ceiling.
“The project ended when Dr. Erskine actually succeeded in creating something…combined. I went into a cryostasis pod that eventually shut down. I don’t know for how long. Then one day, I just woke up in an empty facility, in the dark, and escaped. Natasha found me in the mountains. I think the lab sent out some kind of signal Tony detected, and she was sent to scan the place.”
You were relieved that your story had finally ended, or at least, the nightmare part.
But Steve was stiff.
He felt…waves of guilt crashing over him.
What year was that? When did all of that happen to you? Where was he? Could he have changed anything? If he had tried harder…if he had discovered Hydra's remnants in SHIELD earlier…could he have saved you?
“And I was…where?” He murmured to himself, trying to remember. “Wakanda…and then…it was the Blip…and I…I never knew…that you were here…until the night we met.”
“Steve…” You frowned, sitting up and placing a hand on his back. “I’ve told you already, what happened to me is not a weight for you to carry. I’m here now. And I’m with you. I’m safe.”
“Safe?” He could hardly bear the guilt and pain he felt. “Safe how? Look at you…you’re…” He took your hand, bandaged and scarred from all the glass and needles you’d endured. “How can you say you are safe…with me?”
He exhaled, his voice low as he suddenly tightened, his stomach twisting in pain. He didn’t know where to begin expressing the emotions, the guilt, the responsibility he felt for all of this.
“I should’ve been there. I should’ve stopped this. If I had tried harder, been faster, I should have protected you, saved you…if I’d just been there…”
“You did.” You put a hand on his shoulder, turning him around to face you. You could see all the emotions swirling inside him. “You did.” You spoke softly but firmly.
“You ended Hydra, twice. I wasn’t used during the War, or after. And when you ended them for good, I was free. You set me free.”
Steve was panting. He couldn’t feel anything else but pain. There was a huge lump in his chest and throat that intensified when you said that. The word you used—“used”—how could anyone in the world apply that verb to you? His heart ached so deeply that it took all his willpower not to break something.
You could see him suffering, so you caressed his cheek.
“And…” You cupped his face, your voice gentle.
“And I had this new identity. I met Natasha, Tony…all these new friends, all this good in the world. I don’t need to hide anymore. I can live under the sunshine, see the sunrise, feel the wind, touch the grass. I even saw the sea for the first time, I had ice cream… And…”
You inhaled, a tear slipping down your cheek. “I got to meet the love of my life.”
“God…!”
The word escaped Steve like a desperate prayer.
Steve pulled you in, holding you so tightly that it felt like he wanted you to melt into his body.
He clenched his jaw, trying to fight back all the emotions tearing him apart. But it was nothing compared to the agony that tore him apart inside.
You had suffered so much—more than he could bear to imagine—and yet you were here: Kind. Good. Pure. Selfless. All those beautiful words Natasha and Tony used to describe you and yet he thought they weren’t enough.
He pressed his face into your hair, his breath ragged, trying to fight back the tears that stung his eyes. Why hadn’t he been there? Why hadn’t he saved you sooner? He could have spared you so much pain, so much suffering, if only he had known, if only he had been there before the scars ever formed.
He clutched you tighter, as if holding you close enough might erase the past, might undo all the hurt. But he knew it wouldn’t. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t take it away. And all he could do was hold you, trying desperately to protect you from any more harm, even as the weight of his guilt bore down on him, suffocating and relentless.
You held him back. You could feel his heart trembling and his soul aching. So you pressed a deep kiss to his cheek.
“It’s in the past,” you said softly. “I’m here now… hey, hey, look at me.”
You cupped his face, and your vision blurred as tears fell.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t want to upset you, but I’m here now, and I’m just… so grateful, so happy… I’ve never felt this way until I met you, so… fearless, like… like the universe has rewarded me with this… rebirth, with meeting you, and loving you, and…”
“Stop.” It was more than Steve could take.
His voice was broken.
“Stop. I…” He inhaled deeply and gently wiped away your tears. He needed to say something before your selfless, pure words continued to break his heart.
“I love you.” He breathed.
The words came out like a sacred vow, a promise sealed with every heartbeat. He’d been holding them back for too long—since this morning, no, since the first day, since the moment he held his breath when he saw you for the first time.
He spoke it like a promise written in the stars, one he would carry until the end of all things. Until his blood thickens into frozen ice, his bones crumble to ashes, and his soul dissolves into starlight, fading into cosmic dust at the very edge of time and the farthest reaches of eternity—he will love you.
You gazed into his eyes, a smile breaking through the tears. “I love you too.”
You wiped away the tear that traced down his cheek.
“And we’ll have new memories. We’ll make a new life. And we’ll be together. And we’ll be happy.”
“Yes.” He smiled through the pain and heartbreak, swearing as a sacred vow, his voice a little choked as he clung to you just as tightly.
“Yes. We will. I promise. We’re gonna be so damn happy…”

Steve waited until you had fallen asleep.
After everything—the confessions, the heart-wrenching words—you had been exhausted. He’d made sure you rested, gently insisting until your breathing slowed into sleep.
In the silence of the night, he walked quietly to the command room. It was empty now, the weight of the day still hanging in the air. He pulled up the files—yours, and your eleven siblings’—onto the big screen.
A deep sigh slipped from his lips.
There you were. Blurred, black-and-white images of childhoods interrupted, dreams shattered, lives stolen far too soon.
“Jarvis.” His voice broke the stillness, steady yet heavy. “Do I have overwrite authorization to change the ID names?”
“Yes, Captain.” Jarvis replied, his tone as polite as ever. “Would you like to change the names of these files and subjects?”
“Yes.” Steve’s gaze lingered on your face, captured in that haunting picture. “Change them all. M and the ID number.” He said with resolve, his words carrying the weight of a decision long made.
“In an instant, Captain.” came Jarvis’s response. The screen flickers briefly as the files change, HE00X to M00X, twelve names, twelve identities, rewritten in seconds.
Steve stared at the screen, his expression grave, but something deeper stirred inside him.
This was it—the meaning he wanted to give your siblings, like an unspoken monument on their unseen graves.
Something none of you knew, because the world hadn’t been kind, or good, or fair enough to tell you. But he had known it right away, the moment you spoke about that beautiful golden thread that was within every living being.
You weren’t experiments.
You were this new name, and he couldn’t thank the universe enough for that.
The twelve of you were this name.
M.
For Miracle.

Woohoo...OMG I cried so much writing this ;_; thank you for reading thus far, hope you enjoyed the...intensity and the angst? xD
So I've been struggling with the name of the series, I was going to call it something like 'the golden thread', but then this image of Steve changing their ID names with this conviction and seriousness appeared in my mind as I was wrapping up Chapter 5, and it was something that's...so him, that's definitenly something he would do. So the name just popped up itself, I think I'll call it 'Miracle Nr. 12'. What do you think?
Ok so Chapters 6 & 7 are wrapped up already, I'll see you next Friday! Let me know if you want to be part of the taglist ;)

. . .
...is this reaching you?
A little animal, on the floor of my chamber. I think I know what you are looking for.
You're stuck in a cycle, a repeating pattern. You want a way out.
Know that this does not make you special - every living thing shares that same frustration. From the microbes in the processing strata to me, who am, if you excuse me, godlike in comparison.
The good news first. In a way, I am what you are searching for. Me and my kind have as our purpose to solve that very oscillating claustrophobia in the chests of you and countless others. A strange charity - you the unknowing recipient, I the reluctant gift. The noble benefactors? Gone.
The bad news is that no definitive solution has been found. And every moment the equipment erodes to a new state of decay. I can't help you collectively, or individually. I can't even help myself.
For you though, there is another way. The old path. Go to the west past the Farm Arrays, and then down into the earth where the land fissures, as deep as you can reach, where the ancients built their temples and danced their silly rituals. The mark I gave you will let you through.[*]
Not that it solves anyone's problem but yours.
i'm not really into video games, and without fail i have to google where these monologues are from every time, but if there is one thing this blog has taught me, its that there are some really intense, poetic video games monologues and i'm intrigued as always. if anyone wants to give me the context for this that would be neat :)

protein guy analysis:
this is about the best i can expect from these long text inputs. the confidence is terrible everywhere, but the algorithm is working hard to pull this into something that looks real, and we've got plenty of secondary structure. there are a lot of alpha helices everywhere, but they're kind of all doing their own thing. ordered protein structures in real life are only marginally stable from a thermodynamic point of view, and despite what i'm being shown, i can't imagine this one would have any reliable stability in an aqueous environment. this structure is pretending to be something real, and does a decent job building that facade, but i would hesitate to put any significant amount of faith into it.
as a side note, i am impressed at how much faster this structure loaded on AF3 compared to what was happening when i was still using AF2 through CollabFold.

Bi-Han grumbled underneath his breath in frustration as you patched up his wounds after a bloody spat with Kung Lao . “Had you not been so fucking stupid, we wouldn’t be in this situation.” You had spoke to him. “It was only a spar.” Bi-Han spoke, annoyed at you. “And it shows how weak you are.” You whispered.
Bi-Han’s brown eyes snapped up at you, standing from the chair. “Excuse me?” He said, towering over you. Your heart almost leaped out of your chest by the change of tone in his voice. “Nothin’.” You mumbled. “What was that? I could not hear you due to your constant mumbling.” He teased, a cocky smirk under his mask.
A sigh left your lips, debating on what you should say. ‘Do I wanna piss him off, or just drop it…’ you thought to yourself.
“I said, “it shows how weak you are”. Losing a fight to a monk is embarrassing.” You spoke. His cold hand went to your neck, putting slight pressure and pushing you against the desk that held bottles of pills, medicines, and other medical equipment. His other hand went up to his mask, pulling it off and setting it onto the table you were pinned against.
“I hate how annoying your voice is,” he started, the grip on your neck became harder with every word he spoke. Bi-Han leaned down towards your ear, his cold breath tickling your earlobe as he whispered, “maybe I should find a way to keep you quiet.”
You snickered at him comment. “Oh yeah? How you gonna do that, huh?” You asked in a cocky tone.
Now you regret ever saying those words.
Your pants and shoes laid on the ground, one leg around Bi-Hans waist and his fingers worked on your wet, dripping cunt. Bi-Hans pants were down as well, only far enough for his cock to hang out, throbbing a dripping with pre, Your soft, yet desperate moans and whines echoed throughout the room, as Bi-Han inserted a third finger, your moans got louder and louder, but his soft, yet cold lips met your warm ones.
His fingers pulled out of your cunt, your slick sticking to his fingers. The lost of contact made you whimper against his lips, causing him to pull back. “You look so pathetic underneath me, moaning and whimpering. Just for me.” He spoke, gripping your chin. He forced your head up harshly, making you keep eye contact with him.
His hand let go of your chin, moving his hand down towards his hard, throbbing cock. He gave himself a few pumps, before lining himself up with your hole and shoving himself inside of you, earning a loud, yet surprised whimper from you.
“Fuck—! Give me a warning before you shove yourself in me!” You whined at him. He pushed the medical supplies onto the ground, the harshly pushing you against the table. “You do not get warnings.” He said, moving his hips against yours. The noises in the room started off soft, but the sounds of skin on skin and your moans only got louder.
The cold hand on your neck blocked your airways a prevented you from even getting a sound out. He leaned down towards your ear, whispering degrading words that could make someone cry, but in your case, it only turned you on more. “Look at how greedily you’re taking me. How does it feel, hmm?” He asked into your ear. Bi-Han leaned up, throwing his head back in pleasure.
The strangled moans and cries told him everything he needed to know. “I am going to claim you, breed you, mark you as my own. Would you like that, my dear?” He asked. He took some of the pressure of your neck only to hear you answer. “Yes—! Please, keep going!” You whimpered pathetically.
“Good girl..” he grunted out, placing the same pressure back onto your neck. A cold hand came down to your thigh, the stinging sensation never leaving. “D-did you just— fucking hit me?!” You managed to speak, but it only sounded like a broken record. “Shut up and take it.” He hissed at you, throwing a leg over his shoulder.
The new position made your eyes roll to the back of your head, and your back arching off the desk slightly. With every thrust, your breast bounced, as well as the table hitting the wall. “I’m going to give you a son, whether you like it or not.” His voice rasped.
“Close! So close!” You gasped out. Bi-Hans hand left your throat, and went to your lips, covering your mouth to prevent you from crying out. “You’re so noisy. You are going to wake everyone up. Do you want that? Do you want someone to walk in and see how deep I am inside of your?” His raspy voice asked.
The thought of getting caught flew into your mind, causing your cunt to throb and your walls tightening around him. With a loud, yet muffled moan, you came. Hard. Your vision went blurry, your back arching off the table and toes curling. Bi-Han came behind you with a loud groan, but muffling it as he leaned down to the crook of your neck. His cock stayed inside of you, refusing to let any of his cum slip out.
Your heavy breaths were the only thing that was heard through the room, before you broke the silence. “I hate you. With all of my guts.” Bi-Han snapped back, sitting up and looking you in the eyes. “Were you saying that when I was buried inside of you?”
