The Phantom of the Opera - Broadway - December1, 2022
Ben Crawford, Kanisha Marie Feliciano (u/s), Jason Forbach
Untracked
Full Principle Cast: Ben Crawford (The Phantom), Kanisha Marie Feliciano (u/s Christine), Jason Forbach (Raoul), Nehal Joshi (Andre), Craig Bennett (Firmin), Maree Johnson (Madam Giry), Raquel Suarez Groen (Carlotta), Carlton Moe (Piangi), Kelly Loughran (u/s Meg)
Notes
I had a drunk lady to my right who spent the entire show humming/singing along to the entire show off-key AND an obviously bored and restless man to my left who started adding his commentary during the second act. They are the source of the noise.
Music of the Night was her worst crime. If you listen to it, you’ll understand.
The drunk lady’s phone/device was not set to silent. I found out the hard way when during the second act her phone starts chiming during WYWSHA.
This is recorded from the rear mezzanine so it takes a while for the audience to settle in the beginning of both acts. My neighbors came in during Masquerade so there is a lot of shuffling during that number.
Maree Johnson forgets her lines during Madam Giry’s Tale and it is probably the most 2nd hand stress I have ever felt in my life.
Kanisha Marie Feliciano has a minor lyric flub during The Mirror

I’ve been lurking in the Starlight Express fandom for awhile, and its one of the most fun fandoms I’ve been a part of in awhile. So I’ve decided to gift some of my StEx bootlegs so I can give back to the community!
I created a google doc that contains the date, tour, cast, and the link for each bootleg, along with some additional info about file types and other things.
Here are the boots that are listed: (This isn’t my whole collection of StEx boots, but these are just the ones I think people should see. I intend to add more as my collection grows!)
Videos-
September 13, 2003 | 2nd US Tour |
Franklyn Warfield (Rusty), Clarissa Grace (Pearl), Drue Williams (Greaseball), Dustin Dubreuil (Electra), Jaremy Kocal (Caboose) Katie O’Toole (Dinah), Dennis Legree (Papa), Joanna Loughran-Richert (Buffy), Kait Holbrook (Ashley)
January 28, 2015 | Bochum |
Kevin Köhler, Trina Hill, David Moore, Matthew Goodgame, Emma Prosser, Paul Shipp, Ben Draper, Sian Velazquez, Carla Pullen, Toby Poole, Paul Treacy, Jason Gray, Brett Shields, Brad Corben, Cary Chennell, Dean Coach, Kelly Downing, Dawn Leigh Woods, Melanie Brown, Graham Harvey, Elliot Collins, Adam Bailey, Jeffrey Socia, Craig Tyler, Manuel Reckow, Etienne Vogel                                                    Notes: Excellent shoot, taper clearly knows the show. A couple particularly blocky bits couldn’t be smoothed out.
May 31, 2015 | Bochum |
Kevin Köhler (Rusty), Trina Hill (Pearl), Matthew Goodgame (Greaseball), Paul Shipp (Electra), Amy Di Bartolomeo (u/s Dinah), David Moore (Papa), Carla Pullen (Buffy), Victoria Anderson (Ashley), Mike Eborall (u/s Caboose), Dewayne Adams (Hip Hopper 1), Brett Shiels (Hip Hopper 2), Ciaran Rees (Hip Hopper 3), Duncan Leighton (Dustin), Paul Treacy (Flattop), Dean Coach (Krupp), Toby Poole (Purse), Kelly Downing (Joule), Melanie Brown (Wrench), Cate Gunner (u/s Volta), Graham Harvey (Ruhrgold), Jason Gray (u/s Turnov), Adam Bailey (Espresso), Jeffrey Socia (Bobo), Luke Zammit (u/s Hashimoto)                                    Notes: Goodbye show for the 2014/15 cast. This is also the bootleg where that infamous gif of Greaseball and Electra kissing comes from.
August 27, 2019 | Bochum |
Markus Fetter (Rusty), Hollie Aires (Pearl), Ben Carruthers (Greaseball), Adam Lake (Elektra), Sian Jones (u/s Dinah), Reva Rice (Momma)              Notes: Filmed in portrait mode. You can't make out any faces but you can follow the action and the choreography quite well. Very good audio. Nice to see the changes for the 30th Anniversary of Starlight Express.
Audios-
1984 | West End |
Ray Shell (Rusty), Stephanie Lawrence (Pearl), Jeff Shankley (Greaseball), Jeffry Daniel (Electra),  Frances Ruffelle (Dinah), Lon Satton (Papa), Michael Stanifourth (CB)                                                                      Notes (not Masters notes): This is the only known capture of the original West End cast on stage. It’s not the full OC, as some characters, like Buffy and Dustin have different voices from the cast album, but I can’t verify which understudies they are. The sound is washed out, and there's a slight static sound, but it’s still understandable. I’d recommend this to any fan of the show!
Proshots-
1988 | West End |
Gary Cordice (Rusty), Kim Leeson (Pearl), Drue Williams (Greaseball), Maynard Williams (Electra), Beverley Braybon (Dinah), Shezwae Powell (Belle), Peter Reeves (Caboose)                                                                        Notes: Proshot, Quality is just alright, but there are separate cameras for the race scenes, which look great.
1988 | Bochum |
Steven M Skeels (Rusty), Maria J Hyde (Pearl), Trevor M Georges (Greaseball), Eric Clausell (Electra), Natalie Howard (Dinah), Trevor M Georges (Papa), Carol Hoffman (Buffy), Roslyn Howell (Ashley), Hans Johansson (Caboose), Garry Noakes (Dustin), Michael Rivera (Flattop), Wilton Anderson (Krupp), Christopher Todd (Purse), Janina Baucke (Joule), Louise Conte (Wrench), Leesa Osborn (Volta), Jens Klarskov (Ruhrgold), Hansgeorg Gantert (Turnov), Frido Ruth (Espresso), Allan Edwards (Bobo), Ric Mount (Hashamoto)                                                Notes: Pro-shot press rehearsal
September 8, 1996 | Las Vegas |
Greg Ellis (Rusty), Dawn Marie Church (Pearl), Ron DeVito (Greaseball)  Notes: Last show of the 1995-1996 cast. Pro-shot, filmed with one camera for the cast and crew. Repaired audio.
Now I don’t want this post to get taken down, so I can’t link it here. If you want the list, DM me and I’ll send it to you as soon as I can! I’ll keep the gifting open until Nov 10, and I don’t intend to open it again, so ask me while you can!

After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in the 1970s, Eve Kaplin began designing jewellery from a selection of beads and metal components. She moved to New York and created a small but successful jewellery business. Eve's signature collections were called "Mechanical" and "Mobile". Their bright colours and bold shapes were popular alongside a fascination with the "Memphis Milano" design style created by Ettore Sottsass and Michael Graves around the same time. Although Eve never claimed to be part of this movement. Her pieces have also been referred to as "Alexander Calder-esque" (especially her earring designs). Eve started working with her friend Joyce Loughran (a painter and artist), to produce a series of wall clocks. They became business partners in 1984 and produced the clocks under Eve's name. Did I mention Eve was also part of a Capoeira group? A Brazilian martial art which is a brilliant mix of dance, acrobatics, and fighting. Unfortunately, Eve fell ill during a trip to Brazil with this group, and did not make a recovery. She died in 1985, aged only 28. After her death, her family (including her brother Stephen) worked with Joyce to keep Eve's designs and the company alive. They were joined (later in 1985) by Mary Shields. They continued to produce Eve's mechanical designs, earrings and reversible necklace. They expanded the range to include the "Script" series and "Ring" styles, and the "Fables" brooch series. They also expanded the homeware range to include more wall clock designs, switch covers and candle holders. The company's popularity peaked between 1982 and 1993. Eve Kaplin jewellery was sold in Museum and arts shops, including the Hirshorn Museum Shop on the Smithsonian Mall in Washington D.C. Some of the company's most iconic designs are in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Joyce left the company in 1992, Mary continued to run the company until it's closure in the mid-1990s. After the company closed, Mary continued to design jewellery, expanding on the "Script" and "Ring" series she had worked on under the Eve Kaplin company name.
Eve Kaplin's designs were produced from circa 1979 until 1993, both by Eve herself, and after her death in 1985 by the company "Eve Kaplin Design, Inc" (1985 - 1993). Her peices were unusual in that they used "cold connections", no soldering or metalsmithing was involved. They were also playful, colourful, architectural, and often "kinetic" (they moved).
I am hugely grateful to the team behind the "Eve Kaplin Design, Inc" Facebook page, for telling Eve's story, and for providing an authentication service to keep the memory of Eve's incredible work alive. Do go and give them a like!

Quick Thoughts - The Phantom of the Opera - Broadway - December 1, 2022
My main trio was Ben Crawford, Kanisha Marie Feliciano and Jason Forbach.
The IMPROVEMENT in Kanisha’s Christine since the last time I saw her. The previous performance I saw of hers, it was very reminiscent of Emilie’s Christine. I can see more of her own unique choices in this performance. And she was having a great night vocally. Her cadenza in Think of Me was marvelous.
The last time I saw Jason Forbach, it was as the Baker in Into the Woods. I went into the show thinking that he was going to be a very awkward Raoul who did everything very awkwardly. He really surprised me (bamboozled would be the correct term).
I now have the realization that I prefer my Raouls to be deliberately characterized as everything the Phantom wishes he could be. Raoul is naturally charming. People like him and he can easily command people without resorting to extortion and murder. I bet the ease at which Raoul was able to rekindle his relationship with Christine and turn that relationship into a romantic direction just eats away at the Phantom. I get the impression that Jason Forbach’s Raoul just has this natural way about him; there is never a facade or mask in place that hides his authentic self from the world.
Guys we’ve been sleeping on Kelly Loughran’s Meg. I didn’t even realize she was an understudy for Meg! I spent the entire 1st act thinking I was being gaslit because Meg had brown hair with some red undertones to it and for the life of me, I could not figure out who was playing Meg. She’s a wonderful Meg. She has strong vocals and highly detailed acting. A lot of energy to her Meg - and she really cares about Christine!
Poor Maree Johnson forgot the lines to Madam Giry’s Tale. This may be the most awkward version of Madam Giry’s Tale I have ever witnessed.
Okay, so during the Phantom’s proposal after The Point of No Return, Ben draws in Kanisha’s face during the line “Christine, that’s all I ask of...” almost like he was going to kiss her?????
And the subsequent unmasking happened so fast and I have two reads on it.
1. Kanisha’s Christine was going in for the kiss, she accidentally unmasks him. Evidence: she leans in!!!!!!!
2. Kanisha’s Christine deliberately unmasks him because she does not want him to kiss her. The wig coming off was a horrifying bonus. Evidence: Kanisha’s Christine lets out a horrified scream afterwards.
Tbh I’m kinda leaning towards option 1.
Perhaps Ben Crawford’s New Years Resolution will be to stop throwing Barbara the mannequin right into the proscenium. Must she be concussed after every performance?

The morning of May 18th, eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018. That same night, a woman was killed on the campus of Mount Zion High School in Jonesboro, Georgia. The students leave behind empty desks and diplomas. They all leave futures and families and friends, a painful collection of what-ifs. Each of their stories is unique, yet they each converge on a painful truth: They died at one of our schools. We said, “Never again.” But again is now. Today, we add the names of the most recent victims to our list of those we’ve lost in school shootings since Columbine. This list serves to keep our collective memory of these victims alive, but it also reminds us of the terrible human cost of gun violence; the terrible cost of insufficient support for troubled young people; and the terrible cost of our national complacency., eight high school students and two teachers lost their lives in Santa Fe, Texas, the sixth fatal school shooting of 2018.
