Blame My Roots Festival Announces 2022 Theme Song

For 42 years, you could hardly say “Jamboree in the Hills” without singing those memorable words thanks to Mayf Nutter’s title theme song from the 1970s, and Joe Zelek’s follow-up anthem in the 2000s. The team behind Blame My Roots Festival has followed suit with an anthem of their own for this year.  Festival co-creator Chris Dutton calls the new song a “passion project” that was kept secret for a long time. “We had the idea in the first year (2019) and felt the festival was too new to pursue it any further. I’m so glad we waited because it really allowed us time to develop the song in the right way with the right people.” The right people include one very local and very familiar talent, Joe Zelek. Produced and engineered by Zelek, the new song titled, Blame My Roots, captures all of the excitement and anticipation of a Summer country music festival while also revealing what and maybe who’s responsible for “blame my roots.” The link to the song! The band responsible for this number calls themselves, Blame The Festival Band.  They are a compilation of session musicians out of Nashville that Zelek frequently calls on to provide instrumentation for his own projects at Tangerine Studios in Mt. Pleasant.  (The guitarist will be onsite at the festival this year playing in David Lee Murphy’s band.) The new anthem opens up by challenging us locals to “Wake up Ohio Valley, there’s a rising sun,” while convincing listeners to anticipate an upcoming party. In the second verse, we’ve followed the lead singer into the evening festival complete with a “howling moon” and “a good time, and loud, loud music.” Each nostalgic verse is bookended with a driving, consistent chorus calling us to “Blame my Roots…” for just about all the simple reasons we love Summer music festivals: Friends, family, good times, and enduring tradition. The new anthem can be streamed on Apple iTunes, Spotify, Youtube, and many other apps, and will be featured at this year’s festival. Blame My Roots Festival is slated for July 14-16 at Valley View Farm in Belmont and will feature Dierks Bentley, Chase Rice, Ashley McBryde, Randy Houser, Niko Moon, and more.
