After a Morning walk, a Group of Doctors were standing at a road-side Restaurant enjoying a Cup of Tea..

They saw a Man limping towards them..

One Doctor said, "he has Arthritis in his Left Knee.."

The second said, "he has Plantar Faciitis.."

The third said, "just an Ankle Sprain.."

The fourth said, "see that Man cannot lift his Knee, he looks to have Lower Motor Neurons.."

"But to me he seems a Hemiplegia Scissors Gait," said the fifth..

Before the sixth could proclaim his Diagnosis, the Man reached the Group and asked,

"Is there a Cobbler nearby who can repair my Slipper.?"

This is exactly how the Experts talk in Social Media & Television on all issues in these days..!!😂

My Silver Lining.

The quote below is one of my all-time favourites. And after reading reams of inspirational quotes, trawling YouTube for soppy motivational videos, eating my body weight in junk food and crying A LOT (something I very rarely do) I came round to appreciate that my thundercloud might just have a silver lining.

Medicine, Vet Sciences, Law and Dentistry are the four most competitive degrees you can apply for at a University and while the country is in desperate need of more doctors, vets, lawyers and dentists, Universities are still incredibly selective of who they let in. The choosing process and subsequent character assassinations for medicine are BRUTAL. Universities demand that prospective med students sit the UKCAT (UK Clinical Aptitude test) and only allow students with high enough scores to interview. They want you to do periods of work experience, shadowing and volunteering and want you to dedicate six months to each to show commitment to the cause. Time, which, quite frankly, you just don’t have. They want a gleaming personal statement, top grades, a string of A/A*s at GCSE level, a thorough knowledge of just what you're letting yourself in for for the next five to seven years and a plethora of knowledge on current medical affairs. Not to mention you've got to meet their expectations at interview just to prove you're not a complete psychopath! It was honestly suffocating and I had no life whatsoever, but so blinded by the sparkly lights of an operating theatre I didn't care.

However, I have found my silver lining. Or you could say linings. Radiography, Genetics, Cardiac Physiology and Neuroscience. All of which are huge contenders and all of which quite honestly have saved me from going under. I came to realise that not only did I NOT have to do pure medicine to care for people and work in a hospital and do something worthwhile but I also realised that I have OPTIONS! For the first time in my life I have taken my blinders off and come to realise that there are so many ways into medicine/healthcare without jeopardising health, character and social life. As for which degree I am actually going to apply for? I don’t know! And that’s ok! I’m just a seventeen year old trying to make some of the biggest decisions of my life, but hey ho, let’s just see what happens next!

I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but I'll be damned if I don't give it my all.
