Tbh idk how truly far evolution would go or even if grumpuses could slowly evolve into mergrumps but it's a nice idea. Personally with how lore goes in mine and @axel-n0thing au, it can work out. Since there's already vampires, ghosts, beasts, ect ect.

Anyways mergrumpus au where Lizbert goes missing on an adventure to find grumplantis and the journalist decides to try and find her. After wrecking their ship and ending up on an island they meet the lovely cast of mergrumps and set out to solve some mysteries

MerGrumps AU || Leigh The Crystail

Leigh has always been a old soul. Even in his youth, he grew tired of life and often asked himself if there was more to it than just killing prey and staying out of human sight. It was monotonous and depressing the more he tried to conform to what his fellow kind wanted.

But he couldn't. He ended up leaving the safety and comfort of home in search of something to complete that missing puzzle piece in his life. But what form would that come in? A new place to live? A romantic partner? A friend, maybe? He didn't know, but one thing he did know, was that he couldn't take another day of cycling survial.

A bit world weary and lost, Leigh isn't always the best company for a lighthearted conversation or even a laugh, but he's certainly willing to be a friendly ear or shoulder to cry on...Lord knows he's cried plenty himself.

He may be tired, but he hasn't given up on looking for that something or someone to clear the storm in his heart.

Being a more illusive type of breed, Leigh is definitely unique. He is a crystail merperson, which received their names for their dark, glittering scales and power to communicate through any crystals they find.

Crystails are also sirens, but pure ones. Yes, they use their beautiful voices to lure people to their death, but only for food and never sport. They take no joy in killing, but do what they have to in order to survive; a virtue always held in high reverance by the Crystails.

MerGrumps AU || Arin The Pearlfin

Kind, caring and mischievous, Arin is best known for his optimistic outlook on life, as well as his strive to make his loved ones happy. It doesn't matter what is upsetting them at the time; he'll do everything in his power to take away their sadness.

But it doesn't stop with his loved ones; his big heart is open to all who'll come on in. As a result, it has caused many other sea creatures besides merfolk to befriend him. He's never come across a fish, dolphin, or shark that didn't end up on his side.

Now practically armed with a small percentage of the ocean as his friend, it has served him well in the long run during times of peril when in need of help. All he has to do is call for help and he'll almost always get a helping fin to him within minutes.

Just like any merperson, Arin is seen as a large source of cash by the humans, and for good reason too. Being a pearlfin, Arin is blessed with the ability to heal minor, to semi-serious injuries.

Don't let the pink fool you though. He's not afraid to fight when the situation demands it.

MerGrumps AU || Suzy The Shadowclaw

Unlike the Crystail Sirens, The Shadowclaws are born and bred to be ruthless, coldblooded killers. The urge to kill will randomly strike almost every day and drive them to seek out their goal until it's done and done well. They'll murder for fun and for sustenance. One could say playing with their food is a favorite pastime. Like most sirens, they are irresistibly beautiful and have alluring voices that most can't ignore.

But the one thing that frightens most about their lore, is that they have the ability to adapt to land and sea at will. When ashore, their tail will branch out into a pair of legs, fully grown and functional, allowing them to seek out food while hidden in plain sight.

When it's time to return to the water, their legs will morph into a single tail again.

Suzy is no different. She absolutely thrives as a temptress of the deep; but the sea is not her only field of expertise. At night, she walks onto shore, dressing in human clothes, and tearing foolish men to shreds until her bloodlust is satisfied. (Which is almost never) She is feared by many of her own kind, but also respected and practically the queen.

Living up to her title and breed, Suzy also has no interest in pursuing a mate. It's pointless and a waste of time to think about something as silly as romance.

Or so she thinks...maybe a certain pearlfin merman could chisel down the wall around her heart.

OKAY BUT WHAT IF MERGRUMPS REALLY WERE A THING AND RELATED TO GRUMPLANTIS- Can you imagine- Liz and Egg underwater together- “Liz, I don’t care how pretty the women are, you’re dating me, don’t you dare dump me for a mergrump-” They actually have a fantastic time together, the mergrumps are friendly and it’s just the best thing they’ve ever been a part of. But they don’t want to tell other grumpuses, if they do, they’d be putting them in danger. So, they lie to everyone, the trip was never a failure....they just pretended it was so that they could protect the mergrumps.

Mergrumps are social, friendly, they’re chatterboxes through and through for the most part- They’re out pretty far in the ocean, which is why they remained undiscovered. The occasional boat would flip or a Grumpus would fall out into the water, in which a Mergrump always came and rescued them. But nobody believed the Grumpuses who claimed to have seen Mergrumpuses. Lizbert found them, she went with Eggabell under the water, encourage the rest of the crew to stay in the boat. She and Egg were baffled by what they found, they ended up spending hours down there with the Mergrumps, turns out, touching a Mergrumpus’ paw allows you to breathe underwater. When they came back up, they just pretended they couldn’t find anything, didn’t answer how they were down there for so long. They kept coming back, this time without the crew, they spent time with these underwater grumps...and they couldn’t bring themselves to reveal this secret to the world. They couldn’t just tell the public that Mergrumpuses were real, Grumps would treat them wrongly, hurt them...so all Liz and Egg could do was lie, lie about Grumplantis just being fake, and it worked. Lizbert told the Mergrumpuses to stay away from strange Grumps, to hide at side of a single Grumpus that wasn’t her or Eggabell. No more rare sightings were reported after that. Lizbert kept a necklace made of special shells that a Mergrump made for her. They haven’t seen their ocean friends in a while, but after they returned to the mainland, once the whole Snaktooth issue was done and over for good, Liz is telling stories of past adventures to Nikki, the necklace was questioned... Maybe it’s time for another trip to the middle of the ocean.

Not really about mergrumps, but what if normal Grumpus babies can float on water like otters? They're so fluffy that it keeps them afloat?

Be very easy to mix the two ideas, having Magic as a whole budding concept/energy in the grumps world, spawning frist the mergrumps, then the dragons, then some other creatures/people hiding all over the world-and forming a small connection to the human world (which allows for nikki to live in a world of muppets) our group is just the best at finding them and fixing the influences of dark magic or foolish decisions -Heartbreaker
