Hi, there! Hi! Yeah, it's me. I think it's time that I address something I've been meaning to address. Some people have made similar posts, but I would also like to share my take on it, if you would grant me this moment.

Everyone knows that Mun =/= Muse. If you don't, that's okay! Here's the short version of it: a writer is not their character. The thoughts/action of a character are not reflective of the writer themselves.

However, there's an important factor of writing/RPing. And that's you! Yes, the writer! The mun! You are so important. Without you, your character (or even your version of them!!), your headcanons, your verses and AUs, all of that is null.

No one should ever feel unheard, unwanted, or unimportant. Consider this your reminder! But it's for that exact same reason that we must acknowledge that there IS a person behind the character. And that person can have a million different things going on in their lives that we don't see as an RPC.

The state of the world is chaotic and messy and worrisome right now. Everyone naturally has their limits. And sometimes that can mean that our empathy gets burnt out. It doesn't mean that we are unsympathetic or uncaring. It just means that we're exhausted and need a little time to recharge. A little escape from the horrors of life. A repreive from the anxiety and stress. Sometimes that means we don't want to come home after a long day and hop into another struggle. Sometimes it makes it hard to write someone capable and willing to help someone else in their troubles when it feels like we're drowning in our own.

If you are struggling outside of RP, I heavily encourage you to find someone you can talk to. A friend, a family member, a therapist. Not everyone in the RPC is well-equipped to handle each other's problems, and that is okay. Not everyone is professionally trained or emotionally available. We have to set our boundaries somewhere between all the chaos in our lives.

But as writers, we all have the same thing in common: writing is an escape. Writing is our hobby! We can think of anything we want, anytime we want and make a story out of it. And that's incredible, don't you think? It's amazing what you can do. Never forget that.

But that doesn't mean we're not human beings. There is always someone on the other side of that screen, and that person has probably lived a completely different life than you have or they have vastly different expectations. It can mean that what satisfies one person doesn't please another. Some people like apples, some people think oranges are mid.

Some people aren't super romantically inclined/sexually driven IRL and have a low tolerance for it.

And that's okay! What brings joy and comfort to one person may not necessarily apply to another. Like how we may have "love languages", we can have similar preferences from writing. Some people feel better putting their character through the wringer, some people want their character to be loved and cherished, other people want their character to find someone that loves and supports them despite everything. These are all different ways of reaching the same goal.

We want something satisfying out of our writing.

What satisfies me may not satisfy you, and that is okay. Because RP is a unique kind of writing. It's writing with a partner! A partner with wants and needs for their character AND themselves as a person. So it's a two-way street. An agreement to collaborate and cooperate on a thread or a verse.

Don't forget your partners are just as human as you. That can mean they have different priorities (work, school, family, etc.) and they have different expectations, preferences, and tolerances. So talk to your partner while you've got the time! (And if you don't, that's okay! Writing is a hobby. You should make time for the things that matter most to you without shame.) Plot with your partner! Get to know them! The better you understand what your RP partner wants, the better you can give them the writing experience they crave. And the same goes for you! Communicating your goals with a character will always make a better experience.

And if you're someone who struggles with that, that's okay too. Because I know there are so many friendly people in this community that are willing to be patient with you and support you. That's what so great about the RPC!

Okay, well. We've reached the end. I think I've said everything I want to say, and I say it out of love, care, and concern for everyone in the community.

In summary, the TL;DR:

- there is always a mun behind the muse

- people are human and have their own struggles/needs/priorities

- it’s okay to need help, but not everyone in the RPC is trained or emotionally available (if you need the resources to support yourself, please ask!!)

- writing is a hobby

- what satisfies one person doesn't always apply to another

- talk to your RP partners about your goals and expectations

- love yourself and your friends

And with how things have been in my life personally, I encourage you all to hug a friend, find something that brings you joy no matter how simple or silly, and talk to your fellow human beings and writers. I rarely say this unless I mean it, but I truly do love and care for you all. This is my way of hugging you in these tough times.

Thoughts on the character: When I first played FFVII, I did find Sephiroth to be a tragic villain, but a villain none the less. His past was interesting, even if his whole motivation to retake the planet was a bit wacky? I sorta didn’t get that part beyond “okay, his mind snapped”.

The fandom actually started to make me actively dislike Sephiroth, though... I didn’t think he was “the coolest villain” and neither was I attracted to him or ships involving him.

Crisis Core made me change my mind a LITTLE BIT, but I will be honest, your portrayal of Sephiroth made me begin to really appreciate him more as a character.

Have you interacted before: Yes, and I am looking forward to more interactions across our muses!

Favorite part of portrayal: You’re not afraid to realistically explore insecurities of his, like his awareness of his ‘otherness’ or his tendency to feel like the odd one out even when engaging with Angeal and Genesis, who are supposed to be his best friends. And you don’t Woobie-fy him in the process.

I also just like the range you have with his portrayal. He can be more human and relatable, but he can also be terrifying and intimidating- Or he can be awkward and hesitant. It just depends on the muse he’s interacting with and the environment, he feels like he realistically fits into the scenes we plot out or the AUs and verses you write for him.

And especially with Genesis and our insights on their relationship, I like that we can actually delve into more uncomfortable and not exactly healthy aspects of their dynamic. Muses don’t always have to get along 100% or be necessarily GOOD for one another, sometimes bonds are messy and complicated and there’s a lot more middle-ground/gray areas to social interaction than “we like/dislike each other”.

One piece of advice: Oh God, I don’t even know... Uh. Fuck. 

You could let loose a bit more in fight scenes? I know there’s always the “well I don’t want to God Mod, but also my muse is a Force of Nature so how do I show that without dominating the pace?” aspect, but I also feel like.. you could have MORE FUN with his skills? Get crazy, do something totally wild and unexpected since he has the capacity to take an opponent by complete surprise.

A verse (mine or theirs) I want a thread in: FFXIV VERSE, GIVE ME GREAT WYRM!SEPHIROTH.

It could also be interesting since Ravus is also Elezen and DRKs USED to be in place to monitor corruption within the Holy See and Noble Houses (their existence initially stemmed from the Church), so there could be obvious Bad Blood associated with Ravus’ role, even if he may or may not share the same “we hate dragons” opinion that Ishgardians usually do.

Thoughts on the mun: You’re such a joy to talk to, whether it’s about our muses or just shooting the shit about Adult Problems(tm). I really had a great time when we all got to have dinner together, so I hope we can hang out again and share experiences in your interests and activities- like biking.

And it was also super neat that we sort of just. Organically managed to pick up where we left off when I was done with school, having a rapport comfortable and casual enough to manage that is really nice. You’re a top notch wordsmith and I greatly enjoy bouncing ideas and sharing little insights and inspiration tidbits with you. 

I hope we remain friends for many more years to come!

((Should I make a tag for canon divergent threads based on canon?

That’d be, like, all of my Stolas threads tbh.

Because my main verse, he and Stella fix their relationship. 9 out of 10 times, unless the AU is otherwise tagged or otherwise plotted (see below for examples), I assume this is the universe in which my Stolas lives. It goes divergent between the pilot and Episode 2, and subsequent events don’t happen. In one version of this world, he never slept with Blitzo at all but does have a best friend Blitzo ( @spindlehorse ) who isn’t EXACTLY the guy we see in canon either. In another, he did fuck up and has been fighting to make things right. @raichoose and I have worked really hard for this divergence and I don’t even consider it an AU because it’s my default.

Another of my verses, he’s developing a special connection to Agent Two (Darcy) as he possesses her on and off. They’re both lonely, curious souls who are bonding and we pretend it is not shaped like Venom/Eddie fanfic. In this, everything to Episode 6 has happened but things are a little wiggly after that. @infernal-feminae and I have been hype about how similar Darcy and Stolas are internally and we’re testing to see where it goes and I love them, your honor.

Another, he and Verosika are on track to rage and grieve about Blitzo and maybe develop some deeper, romantic feelings. This is a brand new universe but if you wanna talk about characters who want to give and receive love and lust - reciprocated ‘n all.. @vsika and I were talking about making this a real ship last night and I was so excited to meet someone who not only saw the “oh yeah, they should definitely talk” but the “oh yeah, they might actually be compatible, if messy.”  possibilities. 

I have a ship that predates all three of these with @noblehcart​ and her human Stolas made a deal with, Lucy Harris from “Jekyll and Hyde”, who becomes his sugar baby and the sweetest monsterfucker you ever did see. He helps her become a lawyer in a modern verse and sets up a palace for her in Hell when she becomes a sinner eventually so she’s poised to become an Overlord. It’s a super soft ship, though, for two people who aren’t used to softness. 

I have a weakness for rare pairs, don’t I? Like, hell, anyone who knows me knows that and most people who know me know that I enjoy Stolitz as a fan of the show, but just want to do something different with my Stolas. I feel like people who don’t know me would get mad that these ships are all with female characters, but my Stolas is bi as fuck and proud of it. so it’s really just been luck-of-the-draw and which muns want to write and plot with me. I sometimes have Blitzos who I ship with but the percentage of my threads that are Stolitz is miniscule compared to other ships and, of course, all the beautiful, wonderful Octavias I get to write with and the OCs Stolas has taken under his wing. 

Like, there’s that, too, right? My Stolas is here to take care of his owlet and any cuckoos who need a little bit of dad energy in their lives, perhaps above all else he does. I’ve met some amazing Octavia muns ( @raichoose, @ladiesofhell, @celestvia, @owletteofstars, @hazbinxdisaster to name a few). Octavia is the heart of Stolas’ world, but I also think about the fact that he adores his weird nephew (Hooty), happily supports Via’s friends (Charlie and Hellsa @ladiesofhell and @von-eldritch), and adopts OCs he sees who need a parental figure that doesn’t suck (Clem @hannah-the-small​) and that in my heart of hearts, I want him and Ann’s Stella to expand their family one day, when they feel on totally stable ground. I focus on Stolas as a father figure as much as or more than I focus on him as a sexual being and I love it. I love it all. 

I just fucking love Stolas. I especially love my Stolas. Like I adore all the takes on him I see on the dash but this guy is my serotonin boost when I’m at the helm. 

Point is, I follow the spirit, not the letter of canon with my Stolas and I’m just wondering if I should differentiate my sub-verses so  that way when I one day allow anons back into my world, I don’t get yelled at for Stolas cheating “again” because everything is separate and I just suck at tagging. Especially if Season 2 means that Stolas comes back and Stella plays a bigger role (last Q&A seemed to confirm it). I’m excited because I enjoy canon for what it is but my whole blog is like “Stolas: The Canon Divergence” and I am so nervous.

               OUT. || Well, thank you so much for saying so, anon! I legit feel so happy when people feel Becky’s vibes; I’ve put so so much work into her. How did I think to write her? Well, back in like 2014-2015, I was following this incredible Steve/Bucky duo. They were friends in real life, wrote together like magic, and I just fell in LOVE with them. The Bucky mun was having a surgery done and people sent them questions and such to keep them occupied. Someone asked them which muse they’d like to see represented who they didn’t see on blogs, and they said Rebecca Barnes. Well, that was just about the perfect timing for me, because I was feeling the new-muse itch, and if it meant I could possibly write with this mun, I suddenly felt ALL the inspiration! I mean, I had a lot of work to do before she was actually a person and not just.... a concept, but those blogs were so patient and let me try aspects of Becky’s character, drop things that weren’t working... I really workshopped her in real time, so they saw all of it: the good, the bad, and the ugly. 

Really quickly, however, Becky went from being someone I vibed with to a character type I just.... fell into entirely. It certainly helped that I was creating a majority of her story, be it in pure 616, MCU, or hybrid verses. Since she doesn’t exist in the MCU and exists so little in 616, I needed to make all the choices for her. There wasn’t really a “default portrayal” to fall back on. Over the years, there have been a handful of other Rebecca Barnes blogs. We may not be large in number, but I always have to sit back in awe and see how other people put her together. Everyone has different ideas of who she is or how she comes to be, but there’s this basic love we all have for her and this story that happened parallel to the one we all know. 

Anyway, I fell in love with the idea of a character who kind of became this allegory for all the people who were left behind during WWII. The people left waiting for telegrams, who were handed folded flags and yellow ribbons and told to be proud. And I realized that Becky couldn’t be that picture of American stoicism when it came to the families of veterans; she wanted to scream, and rage, and fall apart. So I let her. I let her become a character who is incredibly messy, and falls to her emotional urges so frequently, and is selfish and imperfect and just tries so hard, but is trying in the middle of a world filled with the extraordinary, which she isn’t. 

This is way more than you were asking for, I know, but you gave me the chance to talk about Becky 😂 Anyway, the hypocritical, selfish, angry... generous, hardworking, gentle character you see now is the product of years of her introducing herself to me, and me letting her be as complicated and contradictory and hard as she wanted to be. I highly recommend it; there are few characters I write who give me such satisfaction as my human in the middle of a world of supers.

Sparrow used to do occasional scribe work. I think if he was working on this one particular page & the parchment kept coming undone and trying to curl up no matter how many times he fixed it, that would destroy him psychologically a little. I feel like small annoyances can build into big things pretty quickly sometimes, with Sparrow, especially if he feels trapped in some way and doesn’t have the option to just remove himself from the situation & do something else.

Rook is like. Rather than being someone with a critical streak, it’s more that he’s a critic who has the occasional streak of another thing. He’s intentional enough to usually avoid believing his critical thoughts as fact in an automatic and unquestioning way, but his internal monologue definitely gives him a lot of information about things that ‘should’ be done better or differently. He’s the most harsh with himself, of course.

Their comfort read? (could be a book, magazine, comics, etc)

From an answer to an earlier meme:

Sparrow projects onto female characters in the absence of nonbinary characters that fit his vibe more exactly. Books and stories grab his attention when a female mc is powerful, wants things, and is maybe a little bit feral, even if she hides it well. She doesn’t have have noble morals, and she doesn’t have to win; there are tragedies he wouldn’t enjoy, but tragedies he very much would. He’s drawn by dark & intense themes bc like, he’s working through some things.

Rook likes history and nonfiction. He doesn’t like to introspect and thinks less naturally in terms of ‘like/want’ & more naturally in terms of function; nonfiction has a very clear and straightforward function. You read the book, you get the information. He would be in an uncomfortable position if he read a fiction book and felt moved by the story in a way that conflicted anything in his carefully constructed sense of identity (and he is not sentimental). He isn’t scared of fiction, but eh. There’s nothing in there he wants to get badly enough that it’s worth the mess.

If the book they are reading turns out to be shit, do they push through just for the sake of finishing it, or do they move on and find something else?

It depends on the book, and it depends on what in particular turned out to be shit. If something about the book is dramatically insulting to something Sparrow really cares about, he’s more likely to drop it than keep reading, either to try and enjoy it anyway or to hate read. If the book just isn’t that interesting or just isn’t that well written, he might keep reading just so he has closure on the investment he put into it. He likes to read, so he’s more likely to keep reading if he doesn’t have a lot of options. I feel like Rook might be the opposite? If a book he’s reading turns insulting he might just be like “hmm, we disagree (fortunately I am very large & near invincible)” and keep reading. If the book isn’t interesting, he isn’t sentimental enough to want to ‘pay the cost’ of learning what happens. Now I’m imagining a situation where Rook puts down a boring book & Sparrow picks it up bc they share a headspace & the book caught his interest just enough for him to want to know what happens (and then one day Rook gets sick of this shit & picks up the book & flips to the end & reads the ending).

Their comfort tv show / film

I think L.ilo & S.titch could be a comfort film for a verse where Sparrow is living in a modern setting. Stitch has to figure out how to be a person after being created to be a tool. As the entire galaxy goes nuts over Stitch’s prescribed identity as a purpose, and as all of the humans are quick to put new unflattering labels on Stitch, L.ilo is the one who gives Stitch permission to start to figure himself out. It’s like, the kind of story Sparrow needs to hear. Plus the painting backgrounds would remind Sparrow of home.

Rook wouldn’t consider something a comfort movie, but there are a lot of M.arvel movies he would like. Lot of stories about superheroes trying to figure out what it means to do the right thing in a complicated situation, and the tone is light enough for it to be a reassuring experience to watch the movie overall.

A song that is currently stuck in their head? (or multiple)

Mmmaybe C.ardigan by T.aylor S.wift. It’s not a song I associate with Sparrow because it’s about him in some way, but it is a song that he would probably decide that he likes, in the way people can like things without the thing being like, one of their theme songs.

The next three questions are for you. do you have anything special in common with your character.

All of my characters have deep things in common with me. Sparrow is deeply sensitive, spiritual, and has a strong personal commitment to not abusing power over other people. Rook is really critical, but he’s also committed to things he cares about. He gets nearly paralyzed sometimes by trying to figure out what he actually wants or what is actually good after considering everything he’s ‘supposed’ to want and how hard it would be to go against the ‘supposed to.’ Sparrow is more of a ‘looking forward’ kind of character, for what could be possible, Rook is a more ‘looking back’ kind of character, at the practical side of things and the messy reality and the question of how to make honorable choices in a reality like that. They’re both really important to me!  

What brings you the most joy about writing this character, right now?

Writing L.othric and now Sparrow has been my invitation to myself to tolerate less of the intolerable. Sparrow isn’t an exact image of a person I literally want to be, but he has qualities that I write about bc I want to develop them better for myself through getting to know him. Right now in particular, I’m still carrying  bittersweet joy about being able to breathe life into OCs after writing D.ark S.ouls characters for so long. Sometimes when I look through the rp tags I see  rpers with H.arry P.otter muses who say they’re ‘anti jkr’, and I wish it was that easy for me to signal that I’m going to engage with a story I still feel things about, but I do not want to approach it as an enthusiastic fan. Ultimately, the OC route is just more valuable because I can own everything I come up with, so it’s a change for the better all things considered. But I wish that it wasn’t so normal for a story to be like, ‘the final boss is a disabled person who was bratty for not wanting to be abused, so hunt him for sport or whatever’ & then a fandom springs around that like ‘this is content! playful irreverence!’ to the point where talking about things more deeply feels like intruding.

Who would win in a fight, you or them?

Oh, them, definitely, Rook and Sparrow would win individually or working together.

Any advice from your muse?

I think he’d say that he’s a made up person, you’re a real person. If he seems powerful because he can do magic and he’s stubborn and makes these daring changes to his life, it’s nothing compared to the power that a real breathing person has. You can do more than him by picking up a leaf off the ground. I think he’d say that maybe it’s easy for people to forget that sometimes, when it comes to any fictional character who’s aspirational in some way.

From non catholics, to people that would take pleasure in hurting others, and so on. Baekhyun had always been taught to keep a distance, for his own sake. He learned to fight, learned that he had abilities to see through people, and find who they truly were despite the masks they wore. His light guided him, God guided him. 

As of 1973, he was sent to take care of a girl. and Baekhyun had been told many times to be careful with her, to remember that God had a plan for everyone, and that some things were to not be interfered with.  As time passed, Baekhyun grew more and more worried with the woman he was a guardian angel to. She was lonely, she was sad, and even when he tried to comfort her, to bring her creativity to be distracted from her emotions, the emotions were still there. They enhanced the creativity even. Baekhyun couldn’t understand that.  One of his siblings had once more warned him, please be careful. Keep a distance. Angels never felt anything other than the peace and sense of responsibility.

The day had been rough on the woman, for reasons that had Baekhyun almost losing faith in humanity. She stood in front of the by the sidewalk, gaze longing at the road in front of them, but the lights were green. She couldn’t cross it.  The angel knew of her plan, it wouldn’t be the first time he saved her from taking her own life. It was considered a sin. She would be condemned. He stopped in front of her, trying to search in her eyes something that he could work on. Was he too close? She looked at him, deep in his eyes, as if she could see the angel in front of her. And that was when Baekhyun felt it for the first time, that deep sorrow that seemed to be eating him from inside out. A despair so big that took his breath away, the feeling of loss. He fell to his knees as those emotions took over him, and the woman took her step forward.  Now he understood how she felt, why she wanted everything to end. And still, the angel made himself visible to human eye, even if in his mind, Baekhyun remembered clearly of the words “God’s will”, and he lauched forward and grabbed her elbow, pulling her back in time to save her from a car that was speeding up. 

….. 2012.

It is morning, the sun is shining way too bright in his eyes. He doesn’t remember falling asleep, but he also doesn’t remember waking up. His mouth is dry but his body is still soaked, the waves breaking at the shore, and at his feet. He could taste the sand, the sun, and the salt from the ocean in his tongue. Someone, something had pulled him out of the water, somehow his wings were broken. After a good moment breathing, trying to remember what happened, trying to understand where he was, and what happened, he sits up, his whole body shaking. He can tell he is alone, but why? He forces himself to think, and notices that the more he tries to keep himself sitting, with his arms supporting his weight, more his arm, his right arm burnt in a specific spot. His eyes land on it and he sees a mark, a rune lighting up. He knows it, what it means… Honor. His memory returns like a harsh slap in the face, bringing tears to his eyes, fingers run through his hair and along with the water dripping from it, there’s blood. Panic starts rising in a way that he never, ever felt before in his life, and to make sure this isn’t just some sick game, he unfurls his wings and looks at them… Black like the night. And he screams.

HEADCANON

-“Hero” name of Hidden Hand.

*Tired of trying so hard to be a hero, my version of Shinso has given up on that idea and is instead considering it a game of wits as he PRETENDS to be good while funneling information to the League. He is also not above using his Quirk to get others to help him too and wiping their memories afterwards.

-Having worked on his Quirk’s abilities, people can now talk back in a mumble to him while under the active effects of his Quirk. They can do simple tasks as well, albeit clumsily, as if half asleep.

-Shinso has left a trigger word in Ojiro and Deku’s heads since the sports festival. In this way he can control them without warning. (Provided their mun agrees) -Shinso likes cats, and will try and pet Every. Single. Cat. He carries treats around in order to persuade them closer to facilitate this. 

-Shinso likes cycling and tries to do it as much as possible to keep in shape, mindful of him wanting to increase his physical strength, following the ass kicking he got at the sports festival. -With that in mind, Shinso has also started carrying some darts to use for self defense as well in case an opponent gets past his Quirk. Tranquilizer darts and paralysis darts are common.

-Shinso is lonely for a lot of the time, so getting affection from animals gives him a sense of well-being. Now that he’s gone to the “dark side” he’s not above using his Quirk to make others like him or say nice things for that support. “Mom always said to make new friends.” -Shinso’s hair is really like that. He just wakes up with it sticking out everywhere and all he can do is try and wrangle it into a semi-controlled shape.

-Favorite holiday: Halloween. Candy and hiding in masks! -Shinso is a huge nerd. He’s read a ton of psychology books and body language books. Not because he’s an asshole, but because it’s a way of dissecting human behavior that he finds, on the surface, interesting (he’s come to the conclusion that they’re bullshit).

-Shinso has lately taken an interest in herbology, learning what combinations would be good to coat his darts with. He does not want to simply buy the darts from a hunting store so these weapons will be a surprise when he needs them to be.

-Shinso is a good people reader, too. He needs it for his Quirk. He has to know what makes them tick, and he considers most people very easy to read. He’s pretty good at starting conversations, usually by getting a rise out of people.

NSFW: -Choking, rope, tied up kink and blindfolds, definitely a fan of the slow and sensual making out, keeping his partner on the edge for as long as possible. He also definitely wants his partner to orgasm first since the control makes him feel more powerful.

APPEARANCE

Hitoshi is a young man with messy, indigo-colored hair that flares out in large tufts around his head and notably straight teeth. His eyes are dark purple with white pupils, and are thin and somewhat triangular in shape, pointing downward, with no visible eyelashes. They're usually half-closed, and he has very dark eye bags underneath them.

By the time of the Provisional Hero License Exam Arc, Hitoshi was noted by the students of Class 1-A to have bulked up quite a bit since they last saw him at the U.A. Sports Festival.

During the Joint Training Arc, Hitoshi wears a prototype hero costume consisting of the long-sleeve winter version of the U.A. PE uniform: a dark blue shirt and pants with thick white lines over his upper body and down his legs which form the letters "U" and "A", and a white marking framed by a red line on each sleeve. In addition to this, he wears a detachable mask-like device over his mouth, known as the Artificial Vocal Cords, which aids him with the activation of his Quirk, a Capturing Weapon, the same as the one worn by Shota Aizawa, around his neck, and a pair of green and white sneakers.

PERSONALITY

Hitoshi is a stoic and straightforward person with an innate ability to spark conversation with anyone, despite holding a reserved and quiet attitude most of the time. He is shown to be rather clever, knowing just the right words to say to manipulate others into replying to his words, allowing him the opportunity to activate his Quirk. He does not seem to mind doing something underhanded if it means he can claim victory in a fight.

Due to having his Brainwashing Quirk perceived as evil throughout his whole life, Hitoshi has been somewhat feared by those who are aware of his power and has been discriminated against solely because of the Quirk he was born with.

QUIRK

[Brainwashing]:

Hitoshi's Quirk allows him to put someone in a state where they are forced to obey whatever he commands. He can only activate this power when his target verbally responds to something he says, not necessarily answering a question as the dub says. Brainwashing needs to be intentionally activated and will not take effect if Hitoshi doesn't want it to.

Though he can have multiple people under his control at once, he can only activate his power on one person at a time. He is also unable to have his victims do things that require some kind of advanced brain function, like talking or writing a name from their memory.

Using a megaphone or anything that makes his voice artificial will not allow his Quirk to activate, as the said devices would transform his voice into an electronic signal.

[Artificial Vocal Cords: Persona Chords]: Using his Artificial Vocal Cords, Hitoshi can modify his vocal tone to imitate the voices of other people, deceiving his enemies so they respond and subject themselves to his Brainwashing.

((What a curious question, let me see. Well, knowing how Tsubasa enjoys different creatures in the world, I think it would be interesting. At first both would or might be shocked meeting one another in their world. Seeing how Stolas would see a human here. At first they would talk and chat, wondering about what is going on. However, their interactions can lead to other things.

Maybe a cup of tea, talking about things in life, and maybe getting to know one another more better.

As to the sex, lets just say it can be a messy wild night. Knowing how much energy Tsubasa has and the wild naughty imagination Stolas has, it fits. I can see bed totally destroyed with both of them panting and laying on the bed. Their bodies soaked in sweat with their release stained all over them. Their expressed dazed out in pleasure from the wild hours of pleasure.

I personally find her general aesthetics to be quite amazing; she is a dance battler, graceful & elegant; a ballerina with a classical theme that runs through her design & attitude like a red threat. [surprisingly, Pearl is considered to be the strongest non-fusion Crystal Gem according to the show (until Lapis Lazuli comes around). -- I assume prowess wise Pearl is high up next to Garnet & Rose whenever she can actually get her crap together due to having fought countless battles &, most importantly, survived the war in which she fought & shattered opponents thrice her size.]

Are they underrated?  YES / NO / IDK. [partially yes, partially no. She is controversial for sure but just as popular. At some point, the show delved deeper into her issues & actually had her mess up quite severely; the fandom’s reaction was so harsh that the showrunners had to interfere by “apologizing for making her human”. Pearl has always been a target for extreme criticism; some of it justified, some just straight down ridiculous.  -- It’s easy to forget what kind of complexity a character can offer when her resolution arc happens literally ten episodes before the show ends.]

Were they relevant for the main story?  YES / NO.

Were they relevant for the main character?  YES / NO / THEY’RE THE PROTAG. [Pearl becomes Steven’s guardian / mentor after the death of his mother Rose Quartz & can later be considered his stand-in mother alongside Garnet. It is safe to say that her actions have influenced Steven the most, both negatively & positively.]

Are they widely known in their world?  YES / NO. [she earned herself the title ‘The Renegade’ during the war for being the first (& arguably only) pearl that broke out of her conditioning; she used to be a wanted criminal / traitor to her own kind for 5000 + years until her record was cleared upon the beginning of Era 3 (aka official end of the Gem War). She is still being referred to as ‘The Renegade’ now & then; while she used to be proud of the title she has grown to resent it a lot these days.]

How’s their reputation?  GOOD / BAD / NEUTRAL. [it depends on who you ask; Homeworld Soldiers? Well, they despise her; she is a defective Gem & a war criminal. She stands for all that is wrong with the rebellion; I mean a pearl who refuses to serve & calls herself an individual? a warrior? THE SCANDAL!! Some soldiers are afraid of her, call her ‘Rose Quartz’ terrifying renegade’, even. However, in her ranks aka the rebellion, she is being seen as a silent heroine. A celebrated war hero, Rose Quartz’s right hand & sole confidante (some even whisper that there is more between them).]

How strictly do you follow canon?  — uh... well. Not really but... kinda? Steven Universe’s canon is messy & occasionally QUITE inconsistent. -- while it gives you vague details, some lore can best be compared to a gaping void. Thus my reason for partial divergence isn’t lack of good character writing (because Pearl is very, very complex even on screen), but rather inconvenient lore holes & SU’s habit of leaving important facts uncommented, “unshown” or just stuck between the lines. While I don’t mind deep analysis, some of those “buried facts” fly other people’s heads which leads to terrible, terrible fanon takes. -- in order to distance myself from that, I usually take canon & expand it with my own headcanons & metas based on lore / show analysis. I often alter / cut what does not fit my narrative BUT I always root my stuff in actual canon occurrences.

     Sometimes, I just straight down change certain things that canon messed up in my pov. For example, in order to make it explicitly clear that she fell in love & rebelled on her own volition (even if it has been confirmed like ten times by now), my Pearl is around 1500 years older than the original & (in)directly served White Diamond before being handed to Pink (not the only reason for that change but well I will elude on it eventually). She was a default pearl with no customization & usually spent most of her time with organizing matters in the palace until Pink accidentally broke her customized pearl; Pearl was then 'poofed’ & handed over; she possessed a more sensible personality & a strict rule protocol that was supposed to help her “raise” Pink Diamond into the ranks of a ruler. Most other changes are rather minor but very important or essential to my portrayal (for example whenever “A Single Pale Rose” is concerned: Pearl suggesting the “sealing of the secret”, her not wearing the dress from the beginning, her not calling Pink “my diamond”, her arguing with Pink long before the fake-shattering took place, etc etc.); the epilogue series is another can of worms I will get to eventually but lemme just say I didn’t really like the way Pearl behaved / the plot-bound ooc-ness she sometimes yielded to & other stuff. 

SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals.  —  well, she is a lesbian space rock from a strange universe; whose body is basically a manifestation of light? She is probably the most passionate being you will ever meet. -- if you are looking for a speedrun through human history, she is your gal. If you need someone to beat up some bullies, she will gladly come & smack sense into people; if you want to learn everything about Gemkind, sit down & listen because she won’t stop talking any time soon. 

     By definition, Pearl is a good person; the extreme loyal kind, absolutely & helplessly dedicated to a cause. She wears most of her emotions on her sleeve, comes off as genuinely caring, protective & trustworthy. She is empathetic & observant, she will always be there for you in one way or another. She is smart, loves to read & indulges in the higher arts such as (romantic) poetry, singing, painting, music (violin, piano, bass) & dance (predominately classic ballet / waltz but she has grown rather fond of jazz lately). Her knowledge about Earth & all that lays beyond is vast & if you ever want to see whatever is out there, she is the type to take you on a space tour with no questions asked. She fences, has learned to wield a lance, can engineer very well, has a very peculiar but... sorta adorable kind of humour that can either be hella obnoxious or super funny. There is no in-between. Pearl loves science, baking, housekeeping, ice-& roller-skating & is more than willing to take people along whenever she visits the rink. If you ask her for advice, she will gladly give it; if you need help, she will be the first to raise her hand. Pearl is orderly, has a strong sense of justice & a fierce, dedicated kind of resolve. 

Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?).  —  Pearl. Is. A. Mess. No questions asked. She is an introverted, nervous, neurotic, grief-- & trauma riddled mess who loves to pretend & rationalize things to death. Her self-esteem is abysmal, she is extremely jealous, obsessive & possessive [to the point where she straight up murdered men just because they dared to be around her girlfriend]. Her mind is a compartmentalized mess of repressed memories & heavy, untreated cptsd woven into it; Pearl lives too much inside her head & gets overwhelmed by her emotions far too easily; she feels too much all at once & lets her temper get the best of her. 

     She is self-centred, does not seem to understand that words & reckless actions hurt people, believes that only she deserves to grieve Rose & willingly destroyed relationships just to soak in her own misery; self-destruction is her forte & she will indulge in it no matter the consequences. She is often high-strung, judgemental, always has to be right, overachieves & overdoes whenever a chance is given. -- she can be petty, arrogant & desperate for validation. --  Needless to say, Pearl is the kind of person that pretends to be fine for years but once she cracks she reveals that she is anything but. -- she cannot move on, hates men, & just is a lot to deal with. Getting in touch with her means you run the risk to get dragged into her mess, whenever you want it or not. 

What inspired you to rp your muse?  —  first & foremost, my love for complex, purpose-driven female characters. I am a sucker for the “introvert, plagued lady” type & once parts of Pearl’s past were revealed during Season 1 I was sold. Pearl seemed relatable to me, extremely human & raw in her behaviour. While I love most of the SU cast equally, Pearl just wouldn’t let me go. Her aesthetic is amazing, her past intriguing. -- her connection to ballet & classical music, her elegant & graceful design just spoke to me. 

What keeps your inspiration going?  —  music. music. oh, and music. Poetry, long walks (I am not kidding), analysis, meta & hc writing, discussions with writing partners or my rl partner @rosiqe.

Do you think you give your character justice?  YES / NO / I SINCERELY HOPE I DO? [ despite my emo peculiar take on the character, I do hope that people hear her voice whenever they read my replies. ]

[ I wish I could post more but I am very, very slow & a perfectionist at heart. -- I try to compensate for my lack of actual hcs by rambling in my tags. Most part of the time said ramblings include personal headcanons or analyses of specific scenes that include personal takes on pivotal situations; while I gather & write them down eventually, it can take me a long time to get stuff done. -- it is easier for me to jus blabber on & on in the tags. ]

While I love my headcanons & have gotten quite proud of my writing over time, I constantly doubt myself regarding the “ic”-ness of my responses. I will most likely try to discuss criticism with you; aka if you (i.e) tell me that Pearl shouldn’t have (C)PTSD, I will deliver canon proof & state my reasoning for my decision to implement it in my canon, etc. What I will not do is tolerate character hate or unreasonable hate towards my writing. If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why?  —  sure. As stated above, I will probably discuss stuff with you. The chance of me dropping a headcanon however are rather low.

If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it?  —  Hm... it depends on what they don’t like. If it’s my writing, well, why are you following me to begin with?? If it is my take on things... well again, why are you following me? I stated in my rules what you should expect & that I will not water down specific aspects of a complex character. Disliking my portrayal is fine since I know that my kind of writing / analysis isn’t necessarily everyone’s tea but... again, why would you keep following me?

If someone really hates your character, how do you take it?  —  um. Not... well? While I will never excuse my muse’s actions, I dislike groundless bashing. In regard to Pearl... well. As stated above, I expected backlash the second I created this blog. Pearl is one of those characters the fandom either loves or hates; her canon relationship to Rose was branded toxic by a ton of people, people call her uncaring, salty, insane & straight up manic, she seemingly has no redeeming qualities, she is a bitch, too perfect (LOL) or arrogant & apparently has no character? I love it when people say stuff like that because... did we watch the same show? Is there a version of SU I don’t know? Please tell me, I wanna see it for myself! Some hot takes in this fandom are atrocious & make me want to commit a crime. 

     -- but I digress. I have spent too much time in her tag in 2014 + & I have seen quite the fights over the most ridiculous things; Pearl, in particular, got quite the flack for stuff that eventually got resolved in season 5 [which, again, was way too late but well]. In the end, clowns will be clowns, no matter what you do. I just don’t get why you would follow someone if you hate their character to begin with.

Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors?  —  yes, but please don’t be rude about it. I am German, English is my second language. I am currently learning Swedish / improving my Swedish so mistakes can always happen. Additionally, I am someone who posts her replies in the middle of the night & while I proofread a lot & most likely fix posts after I posted ‘em, some mistakes can still slip through. 

Do you think you are easy going as a mun?   —  ... I like to believe I am but I know that I am overly passionate & I can come off as too strong or too fierce sometimes. I can be too much, I can be too excentric (I’m a Scorpio, Karen); I have strong opinions in regard to my characters & I will not hold them back. I criticise shows mercilessly & I will plough through canon as much as I please. Stans & I usually don’t get along. HOWEVER, I am a meme. I love lame jokes, I am awkward, & sometimes very, very insecure. In the end,  I just wanna talk about my favourite characters & develop sth wonderful. 13. Are you interested in creating an oc and roleplaying as them?

Hmm I never thought about it, at least not for the Inuyasha fandom. I do have a few old Inuyasha OCs from my teen days though none of them make a bit of sense (one of them was actually Hakudoshi’s daughter lmfao). 

But if I were to make an OC now, it would probably be my multi-fandom OC: Eleanor (whose name is Erin in series where the names are strictly japanese), however while I don’t mind RPing with OCs, I do know many aren’t comfortable with it so I am not sure if it would be worth the shot.  

18. What’s the one thing you want to try the most on your blog?

Three-way RPs. I know it can get messy and complex to have three people (or more) working on the same thread but I think all the possible dynamics, especially in action ones, could turn into something fun to do! And it can work out if we all coordinate who answers when or what.

19. Give us a headcanon about your muse that you never shared to anyone else or wanting to explore deeper.

Uff...boy okay. Let’s see...I can’t remember anymore if I have shared this with anyone else or not but here it goes: 

Hakudoshi is actually capable of love, the problem is...he has absolutely no clue how to deal with it or what to do with it. If there is one thing he doesn’t know what to do with is the positive feelings, the love, the friendship. He is also too proud (and also busy with his plans to overthrow Naraku) to even ask for help on how to deal with them, who would even help him? 

Kagura? They are too far into their ‘I hate you’ relationship to be able to sit down and talk about love. Kohaku? Why would he talk to a human about such things, especially one who doesn’t even remember where he came from. Kanna? Well for obvious reasons she is more clueless about feelings than he is.

And because of this he never talks about it. To him it’s so much easier to make himself be hated, be distant and pushing others away than actually trying to understand what love is. Besides who would even try to love a spawn of Naraku?

Mostly anime openings (currently it’s Naruto/Boruto, Inuyasha, BNHA and KNY ops), they inspire me for writing and for AU ideas, existing or new ones (which are so many right now). Disney songs as cheesy as it sounds can also do the trick sometimes!

undertale day [long post]

it’s the 15th!! happy 4th birthday undertale!!! normally i try to do a little art or something but this year i decided to do something a little different. there’s a lot of content that’s become core tenets of my experience with the fandom -- changed the way i thought about the characters, how i engage with the fandom, opened my eyes to new ways of writing -- and i thought it’d be neat to compile some of those into one post to share with other people. so without further ado!!!

40-minute Deltarune Piano Medley - FaceImplosion [MUSIC]

ok, i know this is deltarune and not undertale, but this medley incorporates songs from both games so i’m gonna say it counts. and honestly, i could say a LOT about this piece!! i’ve watched and listened to a lot of ut/dr medleys, and this has to be the most lovingly crafted of its type that i’ve ever seen. Ever. a lot of care has been put into the order and combination of the songs (some funny, some sad, some mindblowing, ALL amazing) and the art is so good that every time i listen i find myself watching along. there’s a lot of easter eggs, especially for the attentive listener/watcher, and this medley deserves far more than the 6k views it’s gotten so far.

Undertale Album Project - Various Artists [MUSIC]

Songs From Mt Ebott is a collaborative album project that contains dozens of tracks from a score of different artists. i have a lot of favorite tracks from this album, not to mention the individual track art created for each, and if you’ve never heard of this project before, i really recommend giving it a listen! (FaceImplosion also did a piano track for this album, by the way, which i’m linking separately because it’s one of my aforementioned favorites.)

Chara - tigerblossom [MUSIC]

im not gonna lie. this was my favorite piece of fan music for a long time. it’s a medley mashing a few different songs together, short and sweet, but it comes together in such an incredibly heartfelt way at the end that whenever i end up listening to it i find myself wishing the track was about five minutes longer. they also have an underfell version of your best friend that i recommend giving a listen!

Photographs - FuriousPoplar [FIC]

in terms of “post-paci everyone lives au”s, there’s been a lot of ground covered by a lot of different people, and after a while the concept feels almost a bit...same-y? but this fic covers a sorely-needed conversation between an alive chara and asriel in a way that i’ve never seen approached by anyone else before. it’s cathartic, it’s extremely well written, and it doesn’t shy away from the ugly sides of trauma and recovery, which is so greatly appreciated. it also hit me...REALLY hard, which i think is a testament to how amazing this piece is.

Turn Back - foxsgloves [FIC]

i read this one pretty early on in my time in this fandom, and it’s continued to influence me long after. the premise: frisk keeps loading over the brief time asriel has his body in the epilogue, and simply spends time with him as they both prepare to move on towards the end. it’s sad. it’s cute. it’s amazing. it’s something i go back to reread sometimes late at night when i want to reread something friendly and familiar and a little sad. and its been one of my favorites ever since i read it.

You Wear Your Grief Like a Badge - Draikinator [FIC SERIES]

how do you even TALK about ywyglb? do i talk about nate’s impeccable voice in their writing? how true to character they are with the kids? how they set the scene of a post-pacifist world still shaking with the echoes of the past? the series starts with flowey taking frisk’s soul captive while chara and sans form an uneasy alliance in order to get them back, and then spirals into a tense, sweet, funny, awful, heartbreaking experience that reshaped how i viewed the boundaries of my own writing. draikinator’s writing has been and continues to be a huge inspiration to me, and i heartily recommend giving any of their stuff a try.

A Numbered List of Things That Aren't as Badass as They Sound (ex. Monsters, Suicide, Burning in Hell) - rosyy [FIC]

a brief glimpse into chara and asriel just before It Happens, While It Happens, When It Happens. the prose here is the sort of flowery delirious feverdream you’d expect from a kid dying of buttercup poisoning, and i love it to bits. i also want to mention a dr who crossover by the same author, because it has kris as the doctor and frisk as the stray they adopt, and its also the perfect antidote to the angst the first fic provides.

Risen Up (or, Of Fallen Children and Mountain Kin) - paradoxpangolin [FIC]

oh jeezums, how do i even start with this one? post-paci, frisk comes to the conclusion that the best way to ease the tensions between human and monsterkind is to put on a musical about their time in the underground!!!!.....except this leads to its own host of complications, and things get a bit Messy. this fic hasn’t updated in a bit, but it contains so much in its 140k of already published writing that i feel the need to urge you to read it anyway. i’m really partial to autistic frisks, and this fic has what’s got to be my favorite portrayal of that in ... probably the entire fandom? honestly, most (if not all) of the characters in this fic are autist, and it’s just. very good. i love.

you’re like a mirror, reflecting me - batterytriplicate [FIC]

a daemon au exploring what frisk and chara’s journeys might have been like with the extra distinction between monster dust and daemon dust. i completely forgot about this fic until i was trawling through my ao3 history for this post, and i’m really really glad i found it again. i think i was in the middle of trying to figure out this exact au when i first found this fic, and it did everything i was thinking of (and more) so much better that i felt more than content leaving it at that. so if you like his dark materials and want to see a fantastic little daemon au, give this a shot!

soulless-pacifist - vsemily [ASK BLOG]

soulless-pacifist..... if you’ve never heard of this askblog, you’re in for a treat. i wasn’t with it from the very beginning, but i started reading towards the  middle of its main story arc and stuck with it to the end, and suffice it to say, it has to be my favorite fandom askblog to date, purely for how well its written, how well its drawn, and how it’s one of the....only askblogs i’ve ever seen come not only to a FULL conclusion, but to a satisfying one! the mun also worked with a programmer to create a fangame for its final arc, which is so above and beyond that im still kind of in disbelief. in short: this askblog followed frisk and their passenger after the events of a soulless pacifist route, and continues on with them as they grow together and find their place with a whole host of twist and turns in store.                also, memes.

Shine your light with me, chase all the dark away - FancifulRivers [FIC]

this au follows frisk and chara after the events of the game. unlike most post-paci runs, though, chara has their own body back, while they and frisk are hiding back in mt ebott after the monsters have left to avoid the complications of being runaways and also.... incredible guilt and trauma. things don’t really work out like that, though, and i really recommend this read. fancifulrivers has also been an incredibly prolific writer who’s uploaded a lot of really good ut fics, so this is a great starting point to jump off of for their other stuff!

repercussions - proximally [FIC]

this fic... i think this one fic is the one that’s impacted me the most during my early days of this fandom. it’s short, and sad, and is a twist on the soulless pacifist ending that i was left thinking about literally for months after i first read it. instead of saying any more and risking spoiling it, i’ll just leave the author’s desc:  “You made a mistake, and you pay for it with your life. “

The Great Boondoggle - Masu_Trout [FIC]

the premise of this fic is pretty simple. post paci, frisk is walking home. they come across a Bad Guy. hijinks ensue. but what sets apart this fic from others for me is the way frisk is written here. when this fic was published in early 2016, most frisks i came across were the...sweet harmless woobies that were pretty typical from the fandom. this is one of the first frisks i came across that was kind of mean, and a little cold, and had very obviously had a long upward climb to being the sort of person who chose mercy instead of fight. this portrayal is a lot more common nowadays, which i’m super grateful for, but since this is one of the first fics i came across that really nailed this portrayal, i felt i should leave this here. i also recommend their pokemon/ut au, which is toriel and frisk centric and i also love to bits.
