Aragorn and Legolas are sent by King Thranduil into the depths of Mirkwood to uncover the reason why the scent of blood hangs over the forest. Out in a blizzard they discover a mass grave of forest animals -- a gruesome battleground -- and a dying elf who's departing words hold the key to a madness that is taking over the forest.

Together the man and the elf must capture a woman who is believed to have travelled through a rift in time opened by the Dark Lord Sauron, but the forest for them is dangerous and evil threatens to destroy them. Legolas is tainted by a mysterious magic that bleeds from ley lines in the earth, and Aragorn must save him before the forest is destroyed and the elf is lost to darkness. But when Aragorn discovers his true feelings for his elven friend, will there be love or heartbreak at the end of the world?
