soooo ok. I have many thoughts on this, but before I get into them I'd like to remind that I am none of the following: English, a sociologist, a linguist, an expert on English class politics, an expert on anything in particular

with that said, I'd like to address a few things about this ask. I take issue with the premise of the question a bit, and this absolutely might just be a phrasing issue so no shade or negativity to you, anon, for asking!! but the wording of 'that person who fakes sophisticated accent' rings a few alarm bells for me, because it touches on this idea that people who code-switch for purposes of existing in different spaces (especially spaces that are primarily occupied by white people and/or wealthy people) are doing so in a manipulative, duplicitous way, which is not an historically insignificant assertion to make, and not one that I agree with at all.

do I think that it's possible that Petunia code-switched as she got older? absolutely! it's also possible that Lily did, too—we don't really have any evidence to the contrary. I think especially in Petunia's case since she went to typing school and moved to a company closer to London (thank you to Suze for reminding me of this!), this could have been due to factors like the location of the school (since the Evans family was ostensibly no longer paying for one daughter's education, who's to say that they didn't pay for Petunia to go to a well-to-do school in the South, or even just one wherein the primary accent was an English RP?), the teachers and the education (it is a documented phenomenon that some teachers will train accents out of students if the accent is believed to be 'lesser' than the standard of the area, blech), or an ingrained idea that speaking in a more neutral RP or 'posh' accent would lead to more opportunities for employment/upward socioeconomic mobility.

I think it is necessary to pull back a bit when talking about Petunia and really examine the social politics of the world in which she lived: a girl from an industrial area, canonically in the midlands (though in my headcanons from the north of the country), who had a trade degree but few connections, living in a country where the dialectic identity of any given area indicates (more accurately, presumes) a certain level of schooling and a class status just based on accent alone.

we know as a character that she had very specific ideals about how she wanted her life to go, and where/in what setting she wanted to live it. I think this would absolutely give room for her to intentionally mould her accent or take care to train out of it, but I think the culprit here isn't really Petunia so much as the tangled and often oppressive web of English class politics which have enforced the 'North/South divide' and the socioeconomic identifiers that come from one regional accent to another.

even further, it quite literally could have just been that she was around people who spoke in a certain way, starting at a young age at which such accent/behavioral changes were completely developmentally normal. I mean, I lived in England at sixteen and I absolutely found myself changing the inflection of my questions and the pronunciations of some words to fit my peers, because I thought it meant they would more readily accept me into their social world. hell, even when I go back to England now as a 24-year-old, I adopt this weird pseudo-hybrid accent wherein I say things like "what are you on about?!" and "that is mad!!!" even though I am fully and completely American. lol.

tl;dr yes, I think Petunia could have absolutely changed her accent, but I think that's less about her and more about the conditions in which she lived which might very well have demanded such a thing from her.

Personal lore

Sellenei is not a shard of Azem, rather being the shard of a random Ancient with a penchant for music. She did know Venat and Azem as well. Sellenei does possess the Echo. 

The trailer WoL/Meteor is Azem's shard (and thus Ardbert) but he's been m.i.a. since the Calamity. 

My other ocs basically make up Sellenei's adventuring parties. Although she usually fights primals by herself as per canon implies.

They can all use the skills/abilities from all of the jobs they know. No need to spend time un/re/equip a job stone. (Game mechanics are merely a suggestion, let's be real)

Sorta backstory

~Before 1.0~

Sellenei is the daughter of a duskwight merchant turned businessman who had big dreams. 

She's the oldest of her siblings and cousin by around ten years. 

Her father would meet an Ishgardian elezen nobleman who disliked the attitudes of his kinsmen. He found the duskwight man annoying at best but his ideas for business intriguing. The pair's friendship would be vitriolic and end with the Ishgardian marrying the duskwight’s twin sister. Who at the same time met his second wife.

Their home village is a small and quaint one on the far outskirts of Ishgard. While it has been safe from devastation by dragons for a while now, it still has faced danger from them thanks to the Dragonsong war. 

Sellenei, upon reaching her late teens/early twenties decided to forge her own destiny. She'd excelled in archery and wanted to sharpen her other skills left to become an adventurer. Sending money back home and occasionally visiting her family from time to time.

~1.0 / Pre ARR~

She would return home after receiving news of her stepmother's failing help. She would participate in the battle of Carteneau as one of many adventurers and survive. On returning home she'd find out her stepmother had died and would stay home to help her grieving father raise his young daughter, as well as help her brother in what would be a difficult time. 

~5 years later / ARR~

With her baby sister now older and needing less attention she decides to return to adventuring. She made plans to head to Gridania to sign up with the archer's guild and to find work. By this point the “twins” were nearly twenty years of age and having passed the age of majority wished to take up arms and become adventurers as well. Of course only Aevar, being half hyur, looked it, Leiwysse still being torso height to Sellenei. Not wanting to deter their dreams she agreed to take them under her wing. The three left for Gridania.

Once there (and after some other rigamarole), Sellenei would find a contact within the adventurer's guild, Esteile, who would help sort her out as well as find another adventurer to square off her light party. Sellenei's only request was that this person know how to play an instrument as she planned they would be a minstrel group to make extra gil on the side. When all was said and done Sellenei would be introduced to Astryelle, a sprout looking to become a better lancer. 

Astryelle, on the other hand, claims to have come from a nomadic group of people like the Eschva. Long story short her family ended up getting overtaken by the Garleans. Unlike the Eschva they were less willing to bargain and fought them. They lost. 

She lived under Garlean oppression for several years until she finally found an escape. Refusing to ever be a tool of war and conquest for her captors. She's rather reserved about her story and how she escaped. She claims they were “too busy” to notice a singular viera. Of course she's closed off about how she learned to play piano and ballet. She just states “I'm a quick study.”

Cheap charcoal air filters offer improvements to in-vehicle air quality

Research presented in a report by WM Air, the West Midlands Air Quality Improvement Programme at the University of Birmingham, shows that charcoal filters, which costs around £10-£20, can effectively remove NO2 from the air within vehicle cabins. NO2 is a common air pollutant that can aggravate diseases such as asthma and increase the risks of respiratory infections. Traffic emissions are a dominant source of NO2, and so road users inside vehicles are exposed as air circulates into vehicle cabins from outside through open windows and ventilation systems. While ventilation systems do currently filter air, this is typically via a pollen filter. These prevent tiny particles and pollen getting inside the vehicle, but they have little effect on gases such as NO2. The activated carbon filters, in contrast, remove NO2 through a process called adsorption, in which the NO2 reacts with the carbon to stick to the surface area of the filter. As with the pollen filter, the effectiveness of the carbon filter decreases over time, meaning it should be replaced regularly when the vehicle is serviced. Lead researcher Dr Vasileios Matthaios said: “Our findings show clearly that there are benefits to switching to activated carbon air filters, reducing exposure to NO2 and the risk of related adverse health effects. These filters are simple, effective and inexpensive and should be considered, particularly for people who spend long periods of time in vehicles such as professional drivers.” A research paper outlining the findings is published in Science of the Total Environment. In this study, the researchers tested NO2 in 10 different vehicles, ranging in size and type (petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric were all included). Air quality measurements inside the vehicles were taken with a range of ventilation conditions (AC turned on or off and windows either closed or partially open). Each vehicle was tested three times, firstly with its original air filter in place, then with a pollen filter, and lastly with the activated charcoal filter. The researchers found that overall, in-vehicle NO2 concentrations were on average 1.6 times lower when the windows were closed and the ventilation system recirculated air, compared to levels when the windows were open. When new standard pollen filters were fitted, NO2 concentrations were almost unchanged between closed windows and fresh air coming through the ventilation system and with windows open. However, with activated carbon filters fitted, in-vehicle NO2 levels were on average 14.3 times lower with closed windows and recirculated air. Even with fresh air coming through the ventilation system, NO2 levels were 6.6 times lower than levels with windows open. Maintaining appropriate ventilation is also important to prevent drowsiness. Professor William Bloss, co-author on the paper, said: “These results show a fairly simple way to improve air quality inside vehicles, although as the main source of NO2 is our cities is diesel vehicles, reducing traffic emissions overall will bring the greatest air quality benefit across the general population.”
